Tensui Saryo is in the perfect location for exploring the Hakone area, just a couple of minutes from Gora Station. If you’re travelling with luggage, there’s an underpass that takes just 2 minutes, but if you want to avoid steps, it’s around a 7-minute walk around the station. It's not worth a taxi! The hotel itself is warm and friendly. Our room was beautifully presented, featuring a futon bed and a balcony with great views of the mountains. The facilities and toiletries were of high quality and the attention to detail made for a very comfortable stay. The public baths and onsen were lovely and the perfect way to relax after a day of sightseeing. We loved wearing the provided yukata robes, which added to the authentic Japanese experience. The food is traditional Japanese dining, which was beautifully prepared and presented, exactly what you would expect from a ryokan. However, vegetarians may find it challenging as there were no alternative menu options offered during our stay. Must admit, I was very hungry for most of stay and there are no nearby shops or cafes for supplies! It’s ideally placed for catching the cable car up to the Mount Fuji viewpoint. We found the Hakone 3-Day Pass invaluable for getting around and making the most of the local attractions. Would recommend for anyone looking for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience, with stunning views and relaxing onsen facilities.

The room had outdated appliances, some with visible stains, and felt generally unclean. The interior of the hotel is worn and in need of renovation. Food was the biggest letdown. While the ingredients were fresh, the dishes felt overcomplicated, were poorly prepared, and hot dishes were lukewarm at best. We were so unhappy we skipped most meals, even after the reception said they wouldn’t refund them. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the lobby bar has a nice foot-soaking feature, and the location is convenient for exploring Hakone. Still, the hotel doesn’t offer good value for money. I strongly recommend not staying there unless major improvements are made.

The hotel is not bad, but the rooms need renovation, and the price is simply too high. My recommendation for service improvement would be to provide some explanation of the Japanese traditional breakfast - we couldn’t understand what we were eating - and the staff was not able to explain. Also, dear parents, please don’t bring babies to an onsen hotel, or at least take proper care of them. Constant baby crying simply disturbs other guests who are trying to relax.

Family of four stayed only one night. Service was excellent. Room is spacious and transformed into very nice bedding area. Private onsen available inside the unit. Location is superior, walking only less than 5 minutes from Gora station. All is good except wifi connection inside the room is super unstable.

Staying here was possibly the best part of our honeymoon. We had just hiked all of Mt. Fuji over 2 days, and took a cab directly from there to Tensui Saryo, where we were welcomed with a free glass of wine and a foot bath. Our room had a stone bath that would magically spill over the edges as you stepped in, and would automatically refill with hot spring water when you stepped out. Our aching muscles were grateful for the large bed and bathroom. Wearing our yukatas to the kaiseki dinner was icing on the cake. We will be back. PS. Extremely friendly and supportive staff, but limited English knowledge (had to bust out my college Japanese 202). Wifi was a bit slow.

A truly romantic escape in the heart of Hakone. The private open-air onsen with mountain views was unforgettable. Every detail felt crafted for relaxation and connection. Perfect for couples looking for a quiet retreat.

Rooms were quite nice with good views, but rooms tatami flooring was a little worn out, and the wifi was very slow. The public hot springs are small, and there is no view

Unfortunately I cannot recommend going to this hotel as a family & staying in the traditional Japanese room.||Luckily we only booked for two nights.||The main issue was that the futon mattresses provided are very thin, they stack 2 together. When you lay on them, it’s like laying directly on the floor. ||Given that this was a very expensive room, around $800 AUD a night I expected much better.||When I approached reception with google translate of the issue, I was advised that the room service would provide more mattresses, upon returning in the afternoon, it had not been done and I was told it wasn’t too hard to do now and that changing rooms would be difficult.||The sleep situation was akin to camping, I think I get better sleep on my camp mattress to be honest. ||If I hadn’t already paid I would have checked out and booked somewhere else.||The staff were unhelpful and in general didn’t really seem to care.||I do no recommend if you like your sleep.
