Everybody knows that the French word brûlée is always preceded by the word crème when it's on a menu. So, what is the scallop brûlée on this menu? I had to find out.
But first, you should know that Tent City Taphouse delivers a lot of awesomeness before you get to that part of the menu. There are an abundance of Alaskan beers on tap, and a beer flight is a fantastic way to try several beers and still be able to walk when it's time to leave. The server can also pick them for you if you can't decide.
And, there's a mimosa flight, too. There's no liquor here, but those who like mixed drinks would likely approve. We shared strawberry, raspberry, pineapple, and watermelon mimosas, all tasty.
You know the boring old spinach artichoke dip at most places? They have a *scallop* artichoke dip, beautifully creamy and scallopy, served with crispy sourdough toast.
Now, back to that scallop brûlée. I can get that on top of my burger? I don't know what it is, but heck yeah. It's an 8 ounce burger, thoughtfully served with a knife so you can cut it into normal-sized burgers. The burger is beefy and high quality, and could easily have stood on its own. But, with the gorgeous squish of scallops, I found myself taking small bites so I could really enjoy it.
And, serving this beautiful burger with duck fat fries is spectacular. At MacDonald's, you drown their fries in ketchup and sadly jam them into your mouth. Here, every fry is a moment to be savored.
We're in Alaska, home to some of the tastiest fish in the world, and my wife ordered the Halibut Alaskana. The fish was wonderful, and the mashed potatoes were terrific, but the fennel and peppers medley - while pretty - weren't something she enjoyed.
The mushroom ravioli had a nice chew to it, rather than being soft, and was served in a tomato cream sauce. Tasty.
Service was crisp and, even though I wouldn't call this a sports bar, sports were on the large screen TVs. Outdoor dining filled up quickly on a beautiful day like this. Next time, we will wait for one.
Oh, yes...there will be a next time. There are a lot of great options downtown, but Tent City stands out.
