Tenuta di Canonica (Todi, Umbria) 8 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There are a number of distinct types of classic Italian getaways, perhaps none more famous than the Tuscan villa hotel — but closely related, and perhaps a touch more dramatic, is the Umbrian watchtower hotel. Hotel Tenuta di Canonica stands on a hilltop just across the Tiber river from the old town of Todi, and while the tower itself is of medieval vintage, its foundations are Roman in origin — and the hotel is positively steeped in millennia of history." - Tablet Hotels

A 10 minute drive off the main Rd. The drive is a not gr8 but the place is quiet as a result. Not many rooms so front desk sometimes not manned. Its in a side room itself. Pool is lovely, the grounds too. The outdoor dining area perfect. Not air conditioned.

This hotel is simply the best in all ways: the staff, the property, the building and the food. Staying here was the only “relaxing” part of our 2 weeks in Italy. We were sorry to leave early in the morning and not say a proper goodbye to anyone, especially the lovely owner and managers. Sadly I did not get anyone’s name. |We received a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for our 25th anniversary. We had dinner here 2 of 3 nights. Delicious food from a fixed tasting menu which changes daily. Very reasonably priced. Michelin rated.|Breakfast was included. A selection of pastries as well as your choice of fruit salad, yogurt and meat/cheese. We were even given breakfast before the normal breakfast time bc we had to leave early to catch our train.|Our room was spacious and had a ceiling fan!! My husband found the bed a little hard, could use a pillow topper perhaps. |The building is rustic and medieval and just beautiful. I would love to spend a stormy night curled up in one of the sitting rooms. One reviewer said it was too dark, but we felt it was perfect.|The grounds are beautiful with a pool and vegetable garden. Many great places to take pictures.|This hotel is on the outskirts of Todi, which was a blessing bc Todi is difficult to access by car. We loved our stay.

We had a really happy time here. The ancient historic building has been converted and furnished with great care, taste and attention to detail. Those same qualities are very evident in the way the hotel is run. The staff are friendly and efficient. The garden and pool are immaculate. The views are spectacular. There are many areas inside and out to sit in peace and comfort. The food is an imaginative tasting menu that changes every day prepared by a talented young chef. The wine is excellent, local and keenly priced. The owners are charming and we wish them every success.

What an incredible place! At the end of a long winding road along a ridge stands one of the most interesting and beautiful hotels in which you will ever stay. The hotel has roots that go back hundreds of years, and that sense of history is everywhere. Yet the hotel is also modern where it matters, and wonderfully clean and comfortable. The interior decorating is gorgeous, and the hotel abounds with beautiful patios including a huge pool, all with amazing views. The other thing that stands out is the FOOD! We ate dinner at the hotel every night, and the chef created a 7-course dinner that was unique and delicious every night. Overall, the best food we ate in our 16 days in Italy. Lastly, we found the staff to be very friendly and gracious, including Elena, Alesandra, Laura, and Sophia. HIGHLY recommended.

This was a repeat visit to the Tenuta, this time with our adult children and their families. We absolutely love this place, one of our very favorites, and we travel extensively. They even arranged a wonderful private cooking class for all of us, as well as memorable nightly dinners on their beautiful patio. We loved it, and will be back.

What an absolutely amazing place! The owner, the food, the grounds, the rooms and the staff ( and the cat) are all perfect. I would certainly suggest staying here if you need to "detox" from the everyday hustle and bustle. The place that dreams are made of!

Spent the final leg of our honeymoon here, and what a place. Home from home it is, and I could go on and on about Marie’s taste in decor and furniture, exquisite. Marie and her lovely staff couldn’t do enough to try and ensure we kept the romantic honeymoon feel for our stay. Little personal touches, made us feel special and very well looked after. Looking forward to hopefully spending our first wedding anniversary back here.

My wife and I were booked for two nights at Tenuta di Canonica. The hotel is a splendid combination of comfort, history and the exquisite personal taste of the owners. One has the sense of being in a the country home of Italian aristocracy. The grounds are equally splendid and allow for fine walks, relaxation and gazing into the Umbrian landscape. When we arrived my wife wasn't feeling well and asked for a very simple dinner that was magically provided. The next morning she wasn't feeling much better and Maria and staff were concerned and suggested they ask their doctor to come by. Thank goodness for their concern and for the wisdom of the doctor. Subsequently they provided superb care, they drove into Todi to get the prescription and the kitchen was able to cook the simple broth requested by the doctor. We stayed an extra day and that provided time for my wife to continue recovery while we both enjoyed the tranquility of the hotel and grounds. The rich interiors, full of art, inviting and comfortable furniture, tons of books (almost all in Italian but many full of great photographs) made the stay a pleasure. Meals on the patio overlooking olive groves and distant hills was an added bonus. I can't say enough about the true kindness of the staff, the beauty of the setting and the connection to history of Italy (with some part of the building going back to Roman times). We look forward to a return when health problems don't get in the way and we can thoroughly enjoy all that this magical and special place office..
