6 Sustainable Winery Resorts in Italy

"A rustic agriturismo in Le Marche, this family-run winery combines simple, soulful accommodations with organic vineyards and practical sustainability measures—geothermal and photovoltaic systems plus rainwater recovery—to reduce its footprint. The estate produces regional DOC and DOCG wines such as Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi as well as natural wines, some aged in amphora, and guests can enjoy farm-to-table breakfasts (including eggs from on-site chickens), yoga at sunset overlooking the hills, and easy access to nearby natural attractions like the Sibillini Mountains and the Frasassi Caves." - Lauren Mowery

Tenuta San Marco was a wonderful experience. Watching the sunset over the downward sloping vineyard and the more distant hills is spectacular. Especially with a glass of their wine of course. Their dog joined us to quietly sit and watch with us. All the staff are extremely personable and experienced. The restaurant is excellent. Room was spacious, well kept and very comfortable. We're planning to come back next year.

We stayed there with our kids before taking the ferry at Ancona (about 25 min drive from there), and we regretted not being able to stay longer. ||||The owner is very present (in a positive way) to help you from arrival to departure. The rooms are very nicely done and modern, and the garden very pleasant to relax after a hot day. The pool has a nice view to the surrounding vines. It was a bit busy when all guest were around it at the end of the day but this was end of July...||||Very nice dinner "table d'hôte" style where all guests from different countries seat pretty much at the same table and share the same menu. Quality food and and good local made wines (they make their own, and also sell other local produces). ||||Really worth a longer stay if you're in the area.

We stayed at Tenuta San Marcello as it was close to a wedding. Some other couples with kids stayed there as well.|The place is spacious, very clean, with a lovely garden and a pool with an amazing view! |We had a superior room which offered lots of space and a view over the hilly landscape. Natural shower gel and shampoo were offered as well as body oil. All organic.|The breakfast offered a wide range and hs all you want from fresh fruit over to own baked bread, Italian ham and cheese, many jams and organic honey from the region. Daily made tarts were offered and both the salty and sweet version were great.|The French owner and her Italian husband love what they do and you feel it. If it’s the wine they produce, the herbs in the garden or the oil they offer...||Definitely a recommendation. Only hint: ask if there are weddings or birthdays planned as it can get noisy ;-)|Overall a perfect stay.|Anytime again.|

Very refined and tasty food at the right price. Also the wine is amazing. The waiters are very nice and professional. The location is very relaxing and I recommend it for couples but also for bigger groups that wants to enjoy the authentic Italian style. Strongly recommended.

This is a bit late review as we stayed in Tenuta San Marcello last year in november :) We like traveling in Italy and stayed in many hotels. I can say this is one of the best hotel that we've stayed in Italy. Pascale is a great host. She was very helpful. She did her best to make us comfortable. The breakfast was perfect. Home made cakes, cookies, bread and jams were very delicious. Room was big, clean and warm enough for winter time.If we go to that region again, we will definetely stay in Tenuta San Marcello. Thank you and sorry for the late review :) I should do it before as this place really deserve a good review.

As you approach, it isn't apparent that Tenuta San Marcello is set on a promontory that opens up to panoramic views of the dramatic rolling hills of fertile fields on all sides, with picturesque hill town San Belvedere across the valley. This dazzling setting is fully exploited by the simple layout, with the pool at the point of the promontory, and most rooms with views out to the hill town. Run by a lovely young couple, Italian Massimo and French Pasquale (with delicious baking and cheerful service from friendly Silvia), Tenuta San Marcello's historic buildings have been renovated with a crisp Gallic sensibility; the rooms are modern, spotlessly clean, wonderfully comfortable (though simple), and quiet -- at least until the family geese sound an alarm! A bonus is that Massimo is a dedicated winemaker, ready to offer tastings that include lots of winemaking information (some out in the vineyard) in English or Italian, and to sell his lovely wines. We found Tenuta San Marello an excellent base for our exploration of Marche. The breakfast each morning featured Silvia's delicious baked surprises, and we appreciated the on-site laundry facilities. We highly recommend this friendly agriturismo and its beautiful setting!

We rented a spacious apartment which has it owns terrace with a magnificent view. The gardens are great, so is the well maintained swimming pool. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The apartment could be more clean and best is to bring some cleaning stuff because there's only a brush to swipe the floor. Also the 'air conditioning' is more a ventilator: it can get pretty hot inside. Check the conditions of your rental agreement: daily cleaning was not provided in ours.
