AMAZING experience! Beautiful home, beautiful setting, wonderful outdoors spaces, fabulous host. Honestly can’t say enough about our experience -it got beater with every floor, balcony and outdoor space we visited! We were so happy with the space we forgot how wonderful the surrounding area is as well. Views of battery park from the balconies and just steps to fully enjoy the entire battery park experience. Restaurants and bars just steps away although we enjoyed snacks and beer right on the lovely decks and patio of the home because they were just too good to leave! GET HERE you will LOVE it!

We had a great time at the Terry House, we came for one night for our anniversary. The house has so much charm and history. The rooms are decorated with period pieces without feeling too old and stuffy. They did a great job with this. It was quiet at night and was also in the perfect location for walking to a lot of shops, restaurants and Battery park on the waterfront. We also accidentally planned this trip on the weekend of Separation Day festivities and got to watch fireworks from the park which was about a 1 min walk from Terry House. This was an awesome plus. I would say, for early risers, bringing back the breakfast part of this bed and breakfast would be a great idea. The two places within walking distance to get coffee and breakfast or pastries both don’t open until 9 or 10 on the weekends. We ended up actually checking out early and driving to Wilmington to get breakfast. There was coffee, tea and water available 24/7 in the lobby. But other than that, it was a wonderful stay!

Can't say enough about this brilliant jewel of a b&b in New Castle. The general interior is stunning and well maintained. Our suite was very clean and charmingly decorated. James was warm and welcoming via text. He made everything pleasant, positive and simple. If you want a change of scenery and be immersed in bygone age with a lovely walking trail along the Delaware River- this is your spot!

Amazing Bed and Breakfast!!! Unfortunately, they don’t serve breakfast??? But, absolutely beautiful house with amazing decor and fantastic location. What a wonderful experience to stay in this old town and enjoy the great restaurants literally a walk away from the Terry House. We stayed in the Peacock room, which was the top of the stairs , so don’t drink too much if you plan on climbing the beautiful staircase!

Great bed and breakfast in an immaculate historical building located right on the Main Street of New Castle. Jay was extremely kind and helpful throughout the stay, great hospitality hosted by great people. Would 10/10 recommend for anyone looking to experience historic new castle.

Had an incredibly pleasant time at the Terry House. The building is very quaint and steeped in history. Jay and his team keep this hidden gem super clean and welcoming. There also couldn’t be a better location for a cute BnB- right in the heart of Old New Castle!

We had room 7 top of the house but well worth the trip up the stairs. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated. I would say though that the 4 poster bed was a Full size, not a Queen. There was a couch, dinning table, and a T.v sitting area. Room also had a small refrigerator. Microwave available in the living room, next to the Keurig. (Pods for coffee and tea provided. Would have no hesitation on recommending this little gem in the center of Historic New Castle, and have already booked my next long weekend.

A beautiful and charming antique building in the heart of old new castle. The rooms were comfortable and clean and communication with the host was easy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about my experience at the Terry House! There isn't a better place I could have stayed to escape a long week in the city to learn about our first state. The entire house is stunning, inside and out. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the most recently renovated rooms, a jungle themed paradise. The room was pristine. The decor is gorgeous. Upon walking inside, there was calming safari music playing on the TV. I felt like I was in heaven. The location is unbeatable, especially for history buffs. The house is across the street from the New Castle Court House Museum, one of six sites that comprise First State National Historic Park. And it's wonderfully quiet area. I was relaxed and at ease the entire time. I would 100% stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a peaceful getaway!

Yelp
Awesome! That's it! We were in town for a funeral, unfortunately and my sister in law booked this via AirBNB. I was hesitant because I've had mixed experiences with AirBNB but once we arrived, I was in love! Please note that the lady who previously owned this passed and a family purchased this. With that said, we had some quality time with one of the gentlemen who now own it. First off, a fantastic human Ken is. Second, he told us he and his sons have plans. It's not my place to speak to some of those plans but just know they will preserve this place and its history and love. At the time, the "breakfast" part is on hiatus. It's not a negative though. This area of New Castle is a gem of a place and to be in a house that is over 150 years old is phenomenal. You're not getting the Ritz. You might see some paint flaking. You might have something not work. The floors might creak. But!!! Stop for a moment and think of how many people have passed through that house. Now, Ken and his family have made the rooms cozy and inviting. Everything you need for a few days or a week or two! Our room was nautical which, being a former sailor, I loved! The bed was comfy and the bathroom was perfect -- though my wife would love huge area to put all of her stuff! No biggie though. You're in walking distance to extremely historical sites, great food, and Battery Park. I honestly want to give up everything and help them bringing this thing to the level they envision! Good luck, Ken and family. We will certainly be back!

Yelp
If you don't visit the Terry House at least once, you're truly missing out on one of the East Coast's biggest treats !! We live in town, just up the street from Terry House and, nevertheless, rent a room for a day or two as a stay-cation treat every month, to enjoy the charm of our beautiful Historic New Castle Village from the vantage point of the wonderful views and charming comfortable rooms. One big treat for us is the back deck lined with rocking chairs and tables for enjoying coffee in the am or a glass of wine in the pm as we watch boats sailing the Delaware River. They don't have breakfast yet, but the Mercury Cafe is two doors down. And a well-stocked coffee station can be found in the main receiving room at Terry House any hour of the day. This place is truly a rare gem.

Yelp
This place is very pretty, the living room is so cozy, and the atmosphere of the whole place is very warm and comfortable. Our room, room 1, is so nice well kept, and the best room we have stayed at, far better than any big corporate hotel. The person who kept in touch with us is the sweetest person ever, excellent service, and love how they keep in touch with you and answer your questions. words cant describe how much we loved the place. We would 100% stay there again, rates are awesome, the location as well is so good near so many restaurants and locally owned buisness. I recommended to everyone i know. I implore you to stay for at least a night to see and experience the place.

Yelp
Stayed here a few years back, and absolutely loved my visit. I was lucky to have met Mrs Deemer and she was a true gem. Getting to hear old stories and all the amazing things she accomplished in her lifetime, was such a treat. Sue every morning made a delicious breakfast, and also shared many things she experienced working there over the years. My partner and I stayed in different rooms each time we went and each were decorated so lovely with both antique fixtures as well as modern touches to make the stay comfortable. Old New Castle has so much history and charm just footsteps away from the Terry House! Highly suggest stopping by and staying a nite or two, you won't regret it. Also, Jessop's tavern a short distance away never disappointed! RIP Mrs Deemer!

Yelp
I have always been delighted with the Terry House for two decades, with my favorite room being the Magnolia Room on the second floor with a view of the main street. This is an excellent and surprisingly quiet place to watch the folks of New Castle going about their daily business along with some tourists. Sue serves a delicious homemade breakfast each morning and helps you to catch up with the latest local gossip. Ms. Deemer is still around at the age of 99 and is amazingly sharp. In some ways it feels like a trip back in time although you are always in the present with excellent modern wi-fi. This house is conveniently located in the center of town within a few blocks of everything. I plan to keep returning here.

Yelp
James is the new owner (of 3 months) and is putting the beautiful old place in order. He's a great guy - very attentive - and VERY BUSY - but with plenty of time for his guests. We live in a house built in 1740 and are old house folks - if you are like us you'll love Terry House. Yes, there is refreshing to be done and James / Terry House deserve our support. The location is a true old colonial waterfront town - and Jessop's Tavern - VG & reasonable $$ fare - is a 1/4 block walk. Being in - and walking the old town is a delight. It is GENUINE - no honky-tonk or phony cuteness.

Yelp
This is a great place to stay. The owner is 97 years old and met us at the door! The house is located in the center of historic New Castle De. The Delaware River is a short walk away. On the way stop at Jessop's for excellent food and a huge selection of Belgium beer. There is a great deal of history in this little often overlooked town. The terry house is the place to stay.

Yelp
Located in a lovely historic building in the heart of the historic district so that you can wander around the town and take in the sights or walk a few doors down and have a good meal (ask for your 10% discount if you dine at Jessup's Tavern). The staff is very nice and the hot breakfast was great. There are hundreds of interesting collectables scattered about the house so if that is your thing, you will have come to the right place. Communication in terms of making our reservation was a bit difficult and when we arrived there was no one around to meet us. We called the number provided and got no answer so we wandered around the town a bit and the owner had returned by the time we came back. As long as you can put up with a little quirkiness, then you might be happy here. We stayed in room #2 which has an in room bath but room #1 requires that you step into the hallway to get to your bathroom. Our room also had a TV with cable and a small refrigerator but no clock, so bring one of those if you require one. The bed in room #2 was firm (just the way I like it). For $100, it's a good deal; just be prepared to see a few things that need a little sprucing up. If you pack light, no problem but if you are coming with a lot of luggage, be prepared to lug your bags up a pretty long set of stairs (or two sets if you are staying on the third floor). They do have wifi even though everything else is very low tech. Ask for the password when you arrive. There is self-serve coffee located on the second floor but it is is bit hidden away so look for it at the top of the stairs around the corner to your right. It's one of those k-cup machines. And if you are dismayed by the lack of shampoo in the bathroom, you will find a basket in the hall with large bottles of shampoo you can borrow.

Yelp
Comfortable rooms and great breakfasts. First day was fresh fruit cup with a waffle topped with cream and strawberries and 2 sausage links. Second day 2 scrambled eggs and bacon and biscuit. Plus home made pumpkin mini muffins and cinnamon bread. Yummy! We were on the third floor in Rm 5 which was the wedding room with a full bath. Room had a small fridge and a TV although we never turned it on. Bring your own hair dryer or you can run a floor down and grab the communal hair dryer and rerun it to the basket. Rates were affordable. Definitely an option over a sterile hotel!

Yelp
My husband and I had a fantastic stay at this bed and breakfast. It's filled with so much history. Even the owner herself has an amazing past. The assistant, Sue, is so friendly and makes great breakfast. She was even kind enough to give me a wonderful tea infuser. She has an assortment of them because they do tea parties and such there as well in their dining room. The rooms are a good size. There's a couple other sitting furniture and we still had room to put a pack n play in the room and still be able to walk around it just fine. The first night we had stayed, there were nine other people stay at the home and we didn't hear a single person. Given how old of a house it is, I was sure we would've heard all sorts of noises, whether it be people talking due to thin old walls, or at least lots of creaking and sqeaking from old wood floors. But nothing at all and we slept soundly. I definitely recommend this bed and breakfast. One important piece of advice: The owner is an old lady. She only accepts checks or cash, not credit card

Yelp
Most people would grant three stars, owning to the want of bells and whistles. But those who appreciate the affordance of peace, authenticity and thrift, the Terry House is a stay at your grandparent's house with wifi and cable. An hour and a half outside of the metro Washington DC area, we will be back. I'll likely do a fair amount of my dissertation here.
