I am a frequent traveller to Goa, and I usually try to stay at different properties to experience and explore different beaches. This time too, we chose Teso after spending a couple of hours researching on various properties. Teso is a small and beautiful property, about 4-5 kms away from Vagator beach. However there are a lot of things that need improvement. I would first like to talk about the positives before listing out the negatives. ||What we liked about Teso: ||1) Spacious, clean and well appointed rooms with a private patio overlooking the river. ||2) Huge bathrooms with high quality toiletries. ||3) Their open air restro lounge bar called Teso Waterfront was my favourite part of the properrty, gazebos with beautiful white decor overlooking the river is great to spend lazy afternoons at. The food was also good. ||4) Perfect property for a romantic getaway. |||5) The manager and lady at the reception whose name I don't recall were very sweet and helpful, they even gave us late checkout for one of the rooms as our flight got delayed, a gesture we highly appreciated. ||Now, coming to the reasons I gave this property only 3 stars, something I've never done during any of my TA reviews before. ||1) Each cottage has a beautiful backyard with a private massage bed, which if maintained well can add great value to the room, but it looked like the bed hadn't been cleaned for months, the area was quite unkempt. ||2) While the property is of star standard, what it's lacking is a strong team. Most of their staff (especially at their restaurant) are not well trained and lack basic manners. They gave us a hard time during our stay. For instance, the waiter who took our order had little idea about the food on their menu. We ordered for "Parmesan chicken fingers" and he repeated it as "Paani mein fingers" which we laughed off at that time but it's important to ensure the team knows the menu as such things reflect poorly on the brand. ||3) We felt the owner's presence would have made a difference as there was nobody efficient to hear us out and act immediately, except for the manager who tried to do his best within his limited capacity. ||4) On the second morning of our stay, we ordered for Continental breakfast and after waiting for almost 30 mins, the waiter got us only omelette and bread, when we told him that their continental breakfast also has fruits, coffee etc, he curtly replied that breakfast time is over and we can't get anything else. When we tried to reason with him, he refused to listen and kept talking rudely. I was appalled by such treatment meted out to guests staying at the property, it was a harrowing experience. I had to then walk to the reception, explain the situation the the manager who intervened and ensured we got our breakfast. But all the chaos spoilt what could have been a peaceful morning. The name of the waiter was Mohitose/Mojitose (not sure if I got the spelling right), he needs a lot of training!! ||4) We booked 3 cottages almost a month in advance and we wished to stay close to each other, but upon reaching we were allotted #1, #4 and #5, which was a little disappointing as usually the rooms are allotted together when it is under a single booking. ||5) The cottages are in close proximity to one another, which is good if the cottages on either side belong to your friends or family. It was quite nightmarish in our case as the cottage on our left had a rather noisy group of guests who would keep playing Bollywood music on high volume, thanks to which we couldn't get a moment of peace in our room, especially during the peak summer afternoons when we wanted to catch a quiet siesta. ||Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The lady at the reception even offered us a complimentary dessert to make up for the unpleasant experience during breakfast. I would definitely return if the management could address these issues and ensure the guests are treated well. |
