Diorama Cat Shelter & Café

This was such an amazing experience. The cats are in all ages and colours, some are so cheeky and some are so sleepy. I had a sweetheart Maron who just wanted to cuddle my lap on the second floor. Please realise that Japan doesn't have a lot in the way of animal shelters as you see in a regular pet store they are all expensive miniature puppies or kittens. This cafe is really doing their best to rescue strays and have a place to home and feed them. If I lived here, I would adopt a cat from here. There needs to be more funding to help support these cats. The staff were friendly and the cats were either completely unbothered by the train or jumping at it haha. I would love to visit again. Thank you for the lovely time.

So many kitties! As a shelter, this cafe is caring for a lot of strays and giving them a better life. You will want to change your clothes afterwards. The staff really make an effort with hygiene, but with 190+ cats in the building, there is only so much you can do. The cats are pretty friendly, but some might bite and they don't mess around. Overall a positive experience.

Had long waited to visit the famous diorama cat cafe of Osaka, I was left a bit divided. We booked for tea time, which included a small cake and some mediocre coffee. The atmosphere was nice and there were a ton of cats curious to approach you and ask for pets. Unfortunately the train diorama was not working that day. you can also go up to their second floor where the actual cat shelter is located to play and pet the cats. Overall it was an okay experience, I wish they would do more with the food service in the future.

We had a wonderful visit to the café and would recommend anyone visiting Osaka to make a reservation here. We went in the mid-afternoon slot when the food is already decided for the day so there isn't a menu - when we visited we were served a delicious light cream sponge cake with whipped cream and sliced fruit (on this occasion grapefruit). There was a drinks menu with tea, coffee (+iced), and soft drinks available (Coke or orange juice). Edit: I've since been again to the 12pm lunchtime slot where there is a menu of different lunch dishes to choose from- I went for the Hamburg steak with rice but there were several options including omurice and Japanese curry. The drinks menu is the same. The cats were very friendly and are clearly well looked after - they are affectionate with the staff who love them as their own. We fell in love with Tomoko-chan who sat on our laps from the moment we were sat at our table, but all the cats were lovely and were very excited when it was time for everyone to feed them licky treats. There is a hand sanitising and no-shoe policy when you enter - shoe shelves are provided inside the entrance with plenty of comfy slippers available to wear. You have the opportunity to operate the model trains and watch the cats chase and play with them, as well as be part of the daily livestream. We made a reservation online in advance as required with a ¥1600 reservation fee and then ¥3300 cash per person on arrival (2 guests). Souvenirs like commemorative bags are also available for sale by the entrance. There was no problem with any smell like what has been mentioned by other reviewers - just the kind of scent you would expect from sharing a room with lots of cats - and everything was very clean. The staff were lovely and friendly, and were happy to answer any questions and chat about the cats in between encouraging everyone to play with and get to know them. Overall this was a heartwarming experience, and it made the visit to Osaka my favourite day of my Japan trip. Please do support the owners!

Diorama cat cafe is home to a group of hard-working train conductors, locomotive maintenance engineers, and signaling operators who (only sometimes) fall asleep on the job or accidentally cause a train derailment. But when they are so affectionate, how can you be mad at them? The humans that work as the staff for these train professionals are just as awesome and are very accommodating to their guests. If you have the time in Osaka, make your reservation and give this cafe your support!

Cool cafe that is also a shelter for the cats. Most cats just laze around but some will play with you. There's a sick bay where they are treating their cats, might be off putting to some. Overall. Good experience. Would recommend supporting their cause.

If you end up on the 2nd floor, there is no train. The ceilings are very low and there is a ceiling beam to bang your head on. The door upstairs is very small and hard to navigate There are plenty of cats to rescue. It was very crowded and hard to move around. The train on the first floor is very small and wasn't running while people were inside. Karaage is fine, but not as good as 7-11.

Small place but has so many cats and kittens! Booked an one hour trial session without food and it's totally worth it! The owner even handed me a kitten to hold and play with. Just be aware that if you're heading from Umede or Namba station, you'll go through the Tennoji station before getting here and Google map's guide at Tennoji station is so bad that I got lost for 20mins! It tells you to go to the East gate exit but it doesn't clarify that the east exit is actually in a separate building across the street so you apparently have to get out of the West gate exit building first! So plan to come a little earlier in case you got lost just like me.
