"If you like your pubs warm, cosy, and comfortable then Teuchters is for you. Being so close to trams and trains leading in and out of Murrayfield, Teuchters is a firm favourite with rugby fans and a great place to watch a match. It’s also beloved by locals, and any day of the week you can find old friends catching up over a pint. Teuchters offers 90 single malts, more than 20 international and blended whiskies, and even has a game of hoopla with malt whisky as the prize. If whisky isn’t for you then they offer a great choice of predominantly Scottish beers, and a menu full of other drinks to choose from. Their “mug menu” offers small tastings of everything from haggis to mac and cheese and, with a wide selection, you’re sure to find something that catches your fancy." - Chris Brodt

We told some of our friends that we wanted to try good haggis, and this was a recommendation. It tends to get busy after lunch and into dinner so I recommend you make reservations. The staff is incredibly helpful and can answer any questions about the menu and great drinks. The food was incredibly flavorful and filling.

A long standing pub favourite. Ridiculously busy if rugby on. Generally a decent selection of ales (and other drinks). Don't think they rotate the guest ales as much as they used to. But definitely better than most other town centre bars.

A excellent dinner experience! The service was fantastic, quick & friendly. It was super busy when we arrived but with a bit of juggling were shown to a table in a quiet corner. We had the Haggis, neets & tatters and the grilled chicken, both meals were excellent paired with a pint of Edinburgh black. PS. We have now been here for 3 meals this week. I would also highly recommend the Cullen skink ( the soap was so tasty) & the fish & chips were for me the best in Scotland. Crunchy & fresh with awesome chips. Highly recommend this place as a must go!

I was on the hunt for a place to try some whisky and classic fish and chips—exactly what any tourist should do when visiting the UK! Teuchters was close to where we were staying and had great reviews, which turned out to be absolutely true. The prices were fair, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd hope for in a proper pub—warm, welcoming, and full of character. The food really impressed us: generous portions, well-prepared, and clearly made with quality ingredients. I went for the whisky "flying taste" and it made the whole experience feel even more authentically Scottish. Highly recommended!

We shared the Ploughman's Platter with a great selection of cheeses and other goodies. The little pork pie was really good. A fine choice for a meal and real ales

Google
Great pub in the heart of Edinburgh serving typical pub grub options and plenty of different local beers to try. Usually shows the sport on big screen. Can get mega busy though

Darren

Google
Incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. A great selection of beers and ciders, and the foods hearty with generous portions - I'm told the chip butty was the best. Lovely little cosy pub tucked out the way of the main city centre. Worth a visit.

I was meeting a friend on 2 June who was travelling down from Aberdeen to have lunch and a drink. We decided to try Teuchters as I'd often drank in the pub but never had a meal. I was glad we went as our meal was really lovely. My friend had the sausage and mash meal and I opted for the steak pie. Both meals were 5/5 and I'd happily recommend either. Would go back again.

Yelp
Get lost in a dark corner or mingle with people at the bar. Excellent stop for a bite and a beer, or just a bite, or just a beer. It doesn't really matter, you will enjoy sitting in a creaky bar watching the world go round. Everyone working there was an absolute delight. They let you sit back and enjoy your time and always seemed to pop to the table at the right moments. Finding a spot to sit was difficult during the 4 pm on time. Thankfully I was a solo so I took a small table. If you are a larger group (3-4+), finding a spot may be more difficult. I saw people headed downstairs so I wonder if there is more sitting down there? Definitely call to check about that. No promises. Prices are decent and on par with most places in the area. I will return when I am back!

Yelp
Lively and fun pub that served good food at reasonable prices. We came here on a Monday night around 7pm and had no trouble getting a table for four. There was a menu that had Lots of food choices with a whiskey list that was long and extensive. It is hard to find an ample sized salad in the area (lots of hearty meals and typically heavy laden Caesar dressings on salad as the only choice). Here, their salad choices were great. We tried to get in after 6pm Wednesday night, however it was full of after work. Too bad as we would have definitely gone back.

Kari M.

Yelp
First of all, this is the most gregarious place to watch a lively football game. Our hotel recommended it for dinner, and we were so caught up in what was going on that we watched and cheered along with the fans for two hours (until the game was over) and only then were we able to get a table. Food was great as was the staff. I think it was the only time we stood for two hours, drinking and cheering along with strangers, before eating dinner. Super fun!

Chris D.

Yelp
A great local pub, with an extensive selection of beers (and not just IPAs), drinks and a good food menu. The food menu has a decent selection for those who prefer vegetarian as well as seafood and meat options. Staff were great!

Yelp
We took the train into Edinburgh, dropped off our bags, and this was our first stop! We were seated immediately in a cozy corner and had a fantastic meal. We wanted something light, filling, and delicious and this really checked all the boxes.

Dawn B.

Yelp
Excellent service. Stopped in for a late Sunday supper. Even though I was last to be seated I never felt rushed. I had the mussels, fresh, sweet, and tender. My dog was welcomed which made my day. I've attached some photos of the downstairs bunker it's incredibly cozy I felt like I was in a movie set

Zach T.

Yelp
Went to the UK for six days. Had great meals in London and Edinburgh, everyday. But the steak pie here was the best meal I found anywhere. A top five meal of my entire life.

Marcelle M.

Yelp
Loved this pub! I ordered a minced meat pie, with mashed potatoes and peas and gravy which was delicious. My husband had mussels and fat chunky fries. Great atmosphere. Very happening place.

Yelp
We just finished 2 weeks touring the UK and the meal here was the BEST...and we ate so much great food. We had the Shetland scallops with bacon and crispy blood pudding and the scottish cheese plate. I wanted to go back the next day.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Great food, great beers and many, many Scotch whiskey choices! Loud on a weekend night

Yelp
We enjoyed our first dinner in Scotland here. It was just a short tram ride from our hotel. I decided to try the haggis appetizer for the first time. It was a bit more peppery than I expected, otherwise it tasted like meatloaf topped with caramelized onions. Rather good, actually. I also really liked the hake over ratatouille and the strawberries and mojito sorbet to finish. Service was fairly quick and the staff was very professional. The noise level was a bit loud and lively but it is a pub. Overall, a great first dinner on our tour of Scotland. Would love to return.

Megan M.

Yelp
We had a great time at Tuechters. We went for dinner one night and were able to get seated in their restaurant area downstairs, which was much more quiet than the bar area (would recommend getting a reservation). The fish and chips were the great - highly reccomend!

James M.

Yelp
This is a great place very low key but the food is amazing- bar and fresh fish and meats . Wonderful deserts - nice crowd and the wait staff is amazing. We have come several times from traditional favorites to new dishes. I cannot recommend this place enough

Yelp
Hello! I'm a tourist! You probably didn't need that little alert at the beginning of this sentence. But I will tell you, I pride myself on not being "basic" when I'm abroad. I'll see the touristy things, but enjoy a more interesting experience. But everyone I encountered told me I had to have haggis!!! I wasn't interested in dining along the Royal Mile. I spent a little bit of time researching where to go for one of my last meals in Edinburgh, before heading to Manchester the next night, so I had to make it count. This place was walking distance from the Haymarket Station, where I was staying. It was a pleasant walk. It was closer to the busier streets, but also tucked away. I was taken below, to A Room In the West End, where I was sat in a tiny closet, basically. But it was perfect for just me! I looked over the menu, and started to order everything. A scotch flight, some cocktail, haggis, fish soup, fish, and bread! Yes! I ordered a lot, because I wanted to sample so much of everything, and it was all so amazingly delicious!! I LOVEDDDDD the haggis. I was so nervous to try it. But it was honestly amazingly delicious. I don't know what haggis is SUPPOSED to taste like, but with or without sauce, this was great. Everything was so great. I actually tried to order more food to try, but I was stopped for some reason... Which is weird, because I'm like, I WANT YOU TO TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Hazel M.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service, the food was delicious with many options to choose from, including delicious vegetarian haggis and hearty steak pie. We lingered over coffee feeling quite at home in this quaint, friendly restaurant that is tucked away in the West End of Edinburgh, down cobbled streets that take you back in time.

Yelp
I didn't eat here, but this pub had a great atmosphere, great friendly bar staff, delicious drinks, a overall fun time for a bunch of tourists visiting from many other countries for a conference. Try the RING TOSS! (if you're not a whiskey connoisseur but want to a fun way to pick one at random): For 4.50 pounds, you can choose to toss a red paper ring at almost any of the whiskey bottles and get a dram if you land on the bottle. If you don't get one in 3 tries (and remember this includes the top shelf stuff) you get a dram of the Sheep Dip, which is not all that bad. I mean, I'm not a whiskey drinker, so it was a fun way to drink some whiskey for a reasonable price.

Yelp
I've just discovered William Street, where this gorgeous pub is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the West End. So tucked away, in fact, that despite having lived here for 4 years I didn't even know it existed until a friend took me here today. Although there are a handful of pubs along this street, some of them looked a bit "old man-ish" whereas I could tell as soon as I walked into this one that it had a really nice atmosphere to it. The décor is a mix of old wooden flooring and beams running the length of the ceilings, with modern-looking brown leather sofas to relax on with your beer. Or whisky, if that's your tipple, as I counted 70 different ones on the blackboard. And speaking of which, that's the best thing about this place. I'm not a huge beer guzzler, but I'll never say no to a bottle of Innis & Gunn. So when I walked in and saw all 5 flavours sitting there ice-cold in the fridge I knew it was going to be a good pub. Although it wasn't particularly busy (apart from us there was only one other pair in there), it didn't have that awkward feel to it as if you're in a goldfish bowl. Instead, the barman was friendly and chatty. I've never eaten in the restaurant downstairs, but I plan to do so very soon in the future as the menu looked really good.

Yelp
Teuchters is a great wee pub in the west end, with a brilliant, busy atmosphere and a faithful gaggle of regulars that never fail to turn up most evenings/weekends for a great deal of pint drinking and banter. I do recognise a lot of the same faces when I come in here, but I actually think that's a really good thing, because having a group of drinking attendees means that this place must be doing something right. A great selection of whisky and beers, and really friendly staff make this pub a good all rounder, and you can relax for a good few hours without worrying about the posing pressure imposed in some bars. The restaurant attached to Teuchters, A Room In The West End, is also reliably very decent, serving quality Scottish produce in a down to earth setting. Prices are also reasonable, so you should have enough notes left over after you've paid the bill to go through to the bar and have a few after dinner drinks.

Cris G.

Yelp
Being from the US, Teuchters is what you imagine when you think of an old pub. I had the snack tray of salami, cheese, bread, and chutney which was tasty. Enough beer choices. On a Saturday afternoon, it was a pleasant mix between being kind of busy but empty enough it wasn't tough to find a seat and watch a game on TV.

Rayan D.

Yelp
Wait, what? No review from me?! I have been visiting here for many years, mostly after work when I was still based at the West End of Edinburgh. I possibly enjoyed it so much it didn't even register to write a review on this place. Locally brewed ales, Scottish beers, good service, great for a conversation and close to city centre. Still too far out for casual tourism and that makes the place a haven for local workers. Nice brown(ish) café with some relaxing sofa's in the back (and a fire place for those cold ..eh.. summers) Prices are decent and "one drink for the road" can easily transform in "one more before the last bus" They have sister bars around Edinburgh (also Teuchter's) Recommended

Rachel K.

Yelp
This became our favorite pub while staying in Edinburgh! We went all three nights we were in town. The staff is friendly, made great drink recommendations, and most of their customers are locals. This is a true Scottish pub. I highly recommend the Rekorderling Mango & Raspberry cider!

Richard P.

Yelp
This is what boozers used to be like before they became hip n trendy. Low ceilings an gloomy, but with a warm welcome. This place has a good range of draft ales and a decent range of other beers and bottles. It is friendly and quiet and a lovely blast of homeliness in the otherwise uber trendy West End. Worth a visit, this place will refresh the parched throat of a tourist and local office workers alike!!

Blythe R.

Yelp
I'm a not infrequent visitor to the bar upstairs, so I was really pleased to be so well served in their smart bistro restaurant, downstairs. The menu is very well written and the quality of the cooking matched the description. Overall, we said: "I was delighted with A Room in the West End. It almost goes without saying that the company played a huge part in that sense of delight, but the food, particularly that rabbit main course, played a significant part, too. It's a smart place with a lot of charm, serving dishes to a much higher quality than it's sister restaurant in Dundas Street. I'd happily recommend that you pay it a visit."

Claire C.

Yelp
I had a splendid breakfast at Teuchters; on a Sunday the breakfast menu is on until 2.30pm. Win! One plate of carnivore items included black pudding, haggis, two eggs, sausage, beans, mushroom, fried tomato, 2 rashers bacon, hash brown and two slices of toast. It came in at around £8. It's probably the best breakfast plate I've had in Edinburgh to date. The ingredients were proper quality, everything cooked perfectly and it all arrived in good time. I will definitely be back here for a Sunday brunch soon. Yum!

Yelp
Teuchters is a cosy pub yet eternally busy bar set amongs the boutiques of the city's West end enclave of William Street. The pub is popular with local Westenders and young visitors alike and serves a wide variety of ales and spirits. Staff are generally very knowledgeable and keen to recommend. This bar has a genuenly traditional pub feel and the downstairs restaurant 'A Room in the West End' is also well worth a visit. Ess

Yelp
Teuchters is a cosy pub on William Street in the West End of the city. It seems to attract a young crowd and can get particularly busy on Fridays and Saturdays. The pub itself is quite small and seating can vary from being incredibly comfortable leather sofas to small wooden stools. Of course if the pub is particularly busy this shan't be much of a problem for you! The pub serves a wide variety of ales and I have always been impressed with the service the staff offer. This isn't the kind of pub you will ever have to wait too long for a pint in - the staff are clearly well trained and efficient so you shan't get too thirsty in here! If you are in town for the rugby at Murrayfield this pub seems to be a favourite with the supporters and its not uncommon to find drinkers spilled out onto the street having a pint before heading further west for the match. This is a lovely traditional pub in a particularly attractive part of the city that I would recommend to visitors and locals alike.

Hamish D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere in this pub during World Cup Rugby with 2 large Tvs showing the games and a packed pub. The pub has pool board results and is decorated to enhance rugby reaver. Beer is a little pricy but great selection.

Catriona C.

Yelp
Am a huge fan of the Teuchters in Leith, it's taken me a while to visit it's counterpart, and it is doesn't disappoint. The same familiar dark wooden panelling and comfy sofas reign here, as does the fantastic mug menu, which is perfect for those long cold dark nights we have so frequently in this country. On the downside, it's massively popular, so can be quite busy, but who can blame folk for going to a decent establishment? I certainly can't.

Sasha H.

Yelp
It's a great pub in the west end, good beers on tap, food is solid and atmosphere is fun!

Yelp
i've been a fan of teuchters at the shore for many years, but hadn't been to the west end version of this pub quite yet. mainly because i live in the shore so west end visits tend to be infrequent, but this place proved the perfect post dinner drink spot this past friday night. the boy and i wandered in after a brief walk from thistle street where we'd stopped to have dinner. it was about 9 or so on friday night so the place was fairly busy, but there were still some tables and seats available! huge plus for me as i hate standing with my drink while balancing my hand bag on my shoulder and hoping no one bumps into me causing a spill. so big thumbs up for adequate seating!! another huge plus was i asked my boyfriend to see if they would make me a hot toddy as they had been offering these during the festive season. the bartender said they didn't have cloves but he would improvise a bit so i could have my drink :) the hot toddy came and it was whiskey, honey, lemon bliss all warmed up in a glass! yes the cloves were missing, but i still really enjoyed this drink and it made me smile that the bartender made it off the menu without fuss. i sadly can't say too much more about this pub as we left after our drinks. but as it's the same owners as teuchters by the shore i have great faith that the mug menu is tasty and there are plently of beers and whiskeys on offer! definitely a great spot to grab a drink if you're in or near the west end.

Hamish D.

Yelp
Good traditional Edinburgh bar without TV or loud music - yet the noise level will be loud with the sound of customer chatter. Perfect for meeting friends and having a drink after work before heading home and if you are on your own you will still feel comfortable because the atmosphere and staff are friendly. Ambience suitable for both sexes - not a sports bar. Good selection of real ales and great selection of whiskies. Type of place you can get to know regulars who will actually speak to you.

Qype User (Origin…)

Yelp
Teuchters is a good meet up point on a Friday night, it's busy but never to the point that's uncomfortable. if there's a group of you try and get round early and secure the couches. Wide selection of beers and real ale. Only grumble is toilets are a bit small and poky so if they're busy it's a bit more..ermintimate than I'm comfortable with.

Qype User (semdav…)

Yelp
Good bar with great whisky and beer selection. Also good bar snacks, the wasabi peas blow your head off, in a way that encourages more beer. It's a cosy pub and not too pretentious but gets rammed on a friday night, and not too fun if you don't have seats. But friendly staff and it's on a street of good bars, so good for a pub crawl.

Qype User (buzzy_…)

Yelp
This is a nice pub, with a good range of wine (I'll let others attest to the beer and whiskey range). Prices can be a bit steep, but its Edinburgh so not unusual. The atmosphere is nice, its not too big too be unbearably noisy but still busy enough to hum a bit. The peanuts etc by the 'handle' are great to snack on, you can buy a half or pint and can mix varieties (including the wasabi peas mentioned by others.

Qype User (blueba…)

Yelp
This is a great pub on William Street - one of my favourite streets in the city - it's like a wee village! The bar has simple yet tasteful decor, with squashy leather sofas to sink in to with the tipple of your choice. There are scottish place names displayed all round the bar, an education in itself and a great game to play is to see who has been to the most and who can name them all correctly! Showing most of the major sports, it can be a real hotspot on a saturday afternoon.

Scotland'sattractions E.

Yelp
Relying on seasonal Scottish produce you're guaranteed an exciting yet home-y dish! There's only a staircase separating the bar and the restaurant too- perfect for when it's too cold to walk form place to place.

Meg B.

Yelp
So, I have lived in the West End for two years now - having lived in other parts of town before - and this is by far one of the most expensive and least welcoming pubs I have been to in Edinburgh. This evening I went there with four colleagues; Teuchters is very close to my home and while I had never been very impressed before I felt that it was worth another shot, so I bought a round of drinks. The total was slightly above what I would expect to pay in Edinburgh. But, so far no comment. Except, after a further pint we had a member of staff approach us to say that we were approaching last orders; fair enough. Again, so far no comment. But, literally 30 seconds later we had another staff member approach to ask me - I was the last of our group to have anything left, and at that seriously less than half a pint with 5 minutes until close to go - to finish my drink. I assured him that I was aware that they were closing and that I would be finished quickly. He apparently didn't think this was good enough and proceeded to engage in a lengthy exchange in which he felt it necessary to not only chastise me, but also watch me drink the remainder of my pint. There were other people still present drinking, but he didn't feel the need to watch them. I appreciate that he may have had a bad day etc but I went to my local pub with a small group of visitors so that we could unwind after a long day of conferences, only to feel that I was being made to feel unwelcome with no legitimate reason at all. My experience of Teuchters is that they are overpriced, whilst also not providing the welcoming and massively knowledgable staff of a place like the Hanging Bat - literally a 7 minute walk away -. and that I am made to feel actively unwelcome. Massively not impressed.

Qype User (Gog…)

Yelp
A nice little pub tucked away on William Street, the bar is pretty small and gets busy with only a few people in and this can make for a bit of bumping and barging to get to the bar. The interior is very traditional with a low ceiling making the place feel even more cramped. Early evening the bar is normally frequented by office staff having a quick pint on their way home. Teuchters also has a reataurant A Room in the West End downstairs.

Qype User (wa20…)

Yelp
This pub in the westend of Edinburgh oozes a Scottish feel. From the place names on the walls, to the Scottish ales, it all adds to the good times had by all. A great place to meet after work, It's cozy in winter, and open and airy in summer. The staff always have great banter, the clientele are interesting and when rugby's on the place is usually buzzing. Full of locals in the know and a great place to take visitors to see a bit of classic Edinburgh, just do your research so you can explain the name!

Debbie R.

Yelp
I can't recommend A Room in The West End highly enough. I've eaten here a number of times now, both in small and larger groups, and each time the food and the service have been great. Really tasty Scottish fare (with fresh steamed vegetables served on the side). The home made burger stuffed with black pudding, and the vegetarian haggis, are my current favourites. 3 courses with coffee and a couple of glasses of house wine represents great value at £25 - £30 a head. For a romantic meal for 2, reserve one of the dookits. It's an experience not to be missed. For after dinner drinks, Teuchters is just at the top of the stairs, so you don't even need to go out in the cold.
