I had mixed feelings about my stay at this hostel. On the positive side, the views of the jungle are stunning, and the property is full of wildlife, I saw monkeys and Iguanas every day. The pool area also offers amazing jungle views.
Unfortunately, the rooms were a major letdown. They were small (around 80 sq. ft.), dark, and unbearably hot. We stayed in a 4-bed dorm where the small fan barely circulated any air, which led to very uncomfortable and sweaty nights. The beds were another issue; the mattresses were hard, and the bunk beds felt unstable—any movement would cause the whole structure to shake, making it very difficult to sleep.
The bathrooms were very clean and plentiful, so we never had to wait. However, the kitchen was another disappointment. It lacked basic essentials, the stove was barely functional, and the whole kitchen area felt very rustic and outdated. With just two tables in the kitchen dining area, it was far from accommodating for such a large hostel.
The restaurant and bar were the highlight of our stay. The prices were affordable, the staff was incredibly kind and courteous, and the cocktails were amazing. The food was delicious, making the restaurant the best part of my experience.
As for the location, it’s not the most convenient. There’s a bus stop about a 5-minute walk away to get to Manuel Antonio, but the walk is on a dangerous, hilly road with no sidewalks. Walking to nearby restaurants isn't really an option, as the area isn’t pedestrian-friendly at all. You can try to walk 15 minutes uphill to some restaurants, but it’s a challenging and risky walk.
Suggestion for the hostel: Provide more fans, charge $5 or $10 if you have to.
I will not return!
