So many great wines! Hard to start with each variety, but i like than all!!!! liked so many…. So personable! Great atmosphere, cooked pizza for us and tasted wine in An old horse barn/stall! Very nice!

Google
Beautiful winery set in a gorgeous meadow in the Willow Creek AVA. Superb wines. From rose to syrah every thing I tried was great. Take a seat, enjoy the view, drink amazing wines.

You’ll find a tasting of unusual varietals at Thacher, which the Brecon crew recommended (they even arrived near the end of our tasting, proving that this is a place that winery workers go after work). I’d never heard of the small-production Valdiguie Nouveau, a very tasty Gamay-ish red that benefits from a little chill and can be drunk in place of white on a hot afternoon. The even-smaller-production Graciano wasn’t new to us but was another rare red find. We enjoyed the entire flight in the comfortable tasting room.

Google
My favorite, favorite winery in Paso Robles. Service and people: 10/10. Wines: 15/10. Scenery and history: 10/10. Commitment to the grapes: 10/10. I really can’t put into words how strongly I feel about my experiences here! Hope to be back in the future and join the club.

Kostas Goulas

Google
We had a great and fun wine experience from Chris. He was knowledgeable and detailed and served us delicious wines(especially the Grenache and the Syrah) . Thanks and see you next time

Google
I joined Thatcher wine club early this year because a friend turned me on to them. I have been so impressed with their wines. I recently was working with Michelle on getting a special shipment of wine sent to me for an event and she was so pleasant to work with and she helped me get my wines in a timely manner. Next week I’m Headed to Paso and we are staying at the Thatcher property and I can’t wait!

Google
Had such a lovely experience at Thatcher! The views were lovely, and the wine even better. Our favorite was definitely Controlled Chaos! Thank you to Kim for making the afternoon so excellent, truly made our experience better. Definitely recommend for a relaxing, laid-back wine tasting!

Google
Thacher Winery is one of our go-to places when in the Paso area - and we belong to the wine club! The tasting room staff and setting is amazing and idyllic, the winemakers are amazing, and the wines range from light and fun to rich and complex - all delicious. And we love that we can bring a lunch with us and eat it outside with our wine tasting! Also - free-roaming chickens: how cool is that?

Valeria G.

Yelp
This was my first wine tasting experience in Paso Robles, and it did not disappoint! The setting at Thacher Winery is absolutely charming, and the entire experience was unforgettable. The wine was exceptional, and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves, which made the visit feel even more intimate and special. The property itself is stunning, complete with adorable chickens roaming around and even a surprise sighting of some owls. It felt like a magical blend of delicious wine, beautiful nature, and perfect hospitality. I can't wait to come back and experience this gem again. Highly recommend!

Maricela C.

Yelp
Very lovely place I will definitely go back. We especially love sitting outside, looking over the beautiful vineyards on the hillside. There are chickens, free ranging running around the property, it truly is a lovely experience one of our highlights of our Paso Robles trip. we met an awesome gentleman that was newer to the area from LA county. He was so kind and helpful and gave us great advice and where to find a delicious port wine. We purchased a ton of wine from this place and a delicious cider that we just enjoyed yesterday after a couple hours of gardening outside. You will not be disappointed go get a flight and enjoy the views

Kim H.

Yelp
Oh how we love this winery!!! What a delicious tasting experience. The venue is absolute breathtaking and you don't want to leave. The customer service was 5 star. We enjoyed the laid back tasting experience with great descriptions shared about each wine poured. We left with a couple of great bottles to take home and enjoy at a later date all with the memories shared at this lovely venue with the ones we love.

Maddy M.

Yelp
I would give Thatcher all the stars in the sky. I'm in love! Out of my entire trip to Paso, Thatcher was the absolute highlight. Every single wine I tasted was a winner. If you are a fan of reds, you've got to check them out. The rose was also FANTASTIC. Their tasting room is quiet and serene, surrounded by rolling hills and an old barn where they host group wine tastings. The woman who was helping us was so friendly and talked us through the tasting notes as well as the history of the winery. You've got to make a stop to Thatcher if you are in Paso! We also got to walk into another old barn on the property and saw an owl! Just another little detail that made this place all the more magical. I will be back! Not soon enough.

Breanna D.

Yelp
Chris was amazing! I had their wine at a local restaurant and they served us the next day as walk in's. Unfortunately we were rushed but Chris understood and met us with such patience and good assistance. He quickly ran us through the reds we wanted to try - their Controlled Chaos wine is really great. And they let us park on the property for a quick picnic with a purchased glass of wine. We left with three bottles and he found us at the end of our meal with his checkout tablet to help us make good time. Will be back.

Yelp
Thacher wine is a family owned winery with an authentic farm like atmosphere . It's about 25 min from downtown Paso Robles. It has old stables and barns and chickens and rooster running around which I loved!!! This was a second winery of the day and we were feeling pretty good lol! Our reservation was for 3:30 pm so by the time we got there it wasn't very crowded at all which was nice. We were greeted right away by Beck, who let us sit wherever we'd like and we chose to sit outside next to the heater. He also provided blankets as well which was nice since it was a bit chilly. Becks energy was so contagious and that really enhanced our wine tasting visit, and we really enjoyed his thorough explanations of The Oxymoronic theme with their wine and label- love it! Beck gave us an extra wine rosé for our patience, as he was caring for a couple things as well as serving our tasting. Our fave wines were Triumvirate reserve zinfandel (100% Zinfandel) and Original copy( Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). Although there was no food served we didn't mind at all and were able to grab a bite later once we got back into downtown Paso Robles. Our tasting cost $20 a person and since we bought a bottle of the Triumvirate and left a tip our overall cost was $114.79. We would definitely come back to Thacher in the spring when it's warmer and sit outside again to enjoy the wine and watch the chickens!

Viri C.

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely enjoyed Thacher Winery and will be returning soon! Our host, Beck, was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He provided so much history of Thacher and how they make their wines. The winery is nestled in a barn setting, which makes for a serene ambiance - just perfect for relaxing. We took home two bottles of the 100% Syrah, they were oh so delicious. So happy we found Thacher!

Joy H.

Yelp
This was my favorite winery on our tour. I loved the grounds, the service and the wine wasn't too bad either.

Jeffrey W.

Yelp
Thatcher has been my favorite winery for years. As someone who works in the industry I have the pleasure of enjoying visiting wineries. This is hands down my favorite. I went this past weekend & met Mike the individual servicing us for the day. He was probably the nicest & most personable person I've ever met for a tasting. The ambiance is a farm side cozy vibe. I enjoy most of their offerings & appreciate them focusing on quality and not quantity. I'll be back like usual.

Katie R.

Yelp
Stopped by for what we thought would be a quick tasting but ended up having the most wonderful afternoon here! We were welcomed by Drew, who ended up guiding us through our tasting. We grabbed a blanket, one of many tables outside next to the barn, and he came over to set up a heater then bring us our wines. He also filled up our water bottles, which we were so thankful for on our drive home! We tasted through the wines at our table and received wonderful education on each one. We lucked out as they had a couple off-menu bottles open during our visit, all of which we were able to taste. We got up to walk around and check out the goats while we tasted - one of the highlights, they were so cute! We probably spent close to two hours here, and honestly could've spent the whole day had we brought snacks and ordered a bottle for there. They had a lot of fun blends that included quite a few unique to the area varietals including cinsault, counoise, and a 100% negrette. It sounded like they also had some great white wines including a sparkling - but all had sold out earlier in the year. There was a variety of seating options including picnic tables, high tops, and Adirondack chairs and benches small tables, a great variety for groups of any size. You could also taste inside the tasting room. We each ended up leaving with two bottles, and we definitely plan to return on a future Paso trip!

Jen B.

Yelp
With 287 wine tasting rooms in the Paso Robles AVA alone, there are plenty from which to choose. This has become an easy favorite for me thanks to their boutique production (nothing mass about it), unique blends, friendly and knowledgeable staff, rural setting and relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, the wines you're used to picking up at your local wine shop or grocery store, the mass producers that taste pretty much the same year after year, this is NOT for you. There is no restaurant here. Thacher specializes in wine. No distractions. If you're looking for a farm setting, outdoor seating, a picnics-welcome-on-the-tree-shaded-picnic-tables-by-the-barn atmosphere with tasty wines that are more Old World than In Your Face Bold, you'll find Thacher a treat.

Alan M.

Yelp
Had a great experience here at Thacher for the following reasons: _it's a smaller winery with a family vibe. _friendly servers _beautiful, rustic setting with horse, goat, ducks and chickens to hang with _nice wines (especially the rose and whites) Definitely worth visiting!

Jonathan W.

Yelp
This has to be the most beautiful winery in the Willow Creek AVA...heck maybe in the whole of Paso! The wines we had during our tastings were excellent and our host (Mike) had great knowledge and passion for what he does. I see us joining their wine club down the line and we likely would have if we hadn't already signed up for 2 during our most recent trip. We still left with a couple of bottles. Their Constant Variable is outstanding.

Ritu K.

Yelp
We've been members of this winery for a few years and hands down absolutely love this winery. The tasting experience is always so enjoyable and the people that work here are very pleasant. We live in OR and always look forward to our trips to Paso and particularly Thacher to enjoy their reds. Highly recommend a visit.

Abby A.

Yelp
Cute little winery, love the chickens and rooster (mind your step though) with the poop) the service was great and very informative. Sit on the front patio for a beautiful view!! You can bring picnic food in I believe

Leah-Lani G.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Outstanding service and wine. We bought two bottles and left feeling welcomed. The drive there is equally as stunning as the wine. Grateful for the experience.

Marilynn L.

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely love this winery. The wine is some of the best we've tasted in Paso Robles. We love it so much we even became members of their wine list. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great Instagram worthy photo ops here as well or you can sit back and take in the beauty without your devices.

John H.

Yelp
There are countless Paso Robles wineries. There are very few that offer the experience -- the outstanding wine, the peerless hospitality, the beautiful and peaceful location -- that Thacher provides. All with zero attitude! Make it a must.

Melissa L.

Yelp
Great winery and amazing vibes. The wines were delish (you have to do a tasting), the staff were super kind and helpful, plus I was a sucker for their merch - because their grasshopper logo is just too cute! We sat outside and did a tasting. It was early enough that we beat the crowds which I was super pleased with because when this spot gets busy it GETS BUSY. It was quiet and we could enjoy the outdoor breeze and pretty landscaping. Staff were super nice. The drinks kept flowing and everything was brought out to us quickly. Then when we went inside to the bar area and little gift shop like area everyone continued to be as friendly as our main server was. Their glassware was super cute with their grasshopper logo that I left with a few goodies and will definitely be back.

Morgan H.

Yelp
Thacher is a boutique winery near a neighborhood and it was one of our favorite stops. You wouldn't typically just come across it but I recommend checking it out as it was the only place that we enjoyed enough to purchase a bottle. It doesn't come cheap, but we really loved the wine. Our hosts informed us that they got married here 18 years ago and stayed on the property, so I'm not sure if that's still an option. We had a lovely time sitting out on the couches in the shade amongst the vines and thought the small fountain only added to the peaceful ambiance.

Kellie M.

Yelp
Thatcher winery is located on a beautiful picturesque road. While the majority of seating is outdoors, there are several shaded areas. The staff is always friendly and accommodating! We enjoyed their featured wine tastings but especially liked their Noveaux; it's a light red and served slightly chilled (perfect for summer)!

Carrie P.

Yelp
Our server, Jenna, was amazing and the wines were exquisite! The Valdiguie was my favorite! The views, the peacefulness, the sincerity of the employees, and the lovely surroundings added to the wine were u forgettable. I will definitely be back!

Belen O.

Yelp
Had such a lovely time there! We drove up from Santa Barbara on a Friday and arrived here in the afternoon. Our sommelier was Brice, who was knowledgeable, attentive and very personable. The drive to this winery was beautiful! It's about 10 miles from Paso. The grounds here are beautiful. Some chickens and goats to entertain the kids and very accommodating for big groups 5,6,7, etc. We bought 4 bottles of wine. Lovely time. Would love to come back!

John K.

Yelp
Recently did a road trip into Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo; as much for the beaches, elephant seals, and the wine. We stopped at Thacher winery and very pleasantly surprised by the knowledgeable staff and the wines they poured. Tranquil setting and leisurely afternoon. Staff talked about the wines, the soil, and the family history. Great afternoon

Natalie B.

Yelp
Thacher is one of our favorite wineries in Paso Robles / Templeton. We always enjoy our visits there and go often! The wine is AMAZING. The staff is always very welcoming and knowledgeable. They engage their guests in conversation, instead of telling you about the wine and walking away. Last time we were served by Chris. We had a bigger party, and he was wonderful! It's a casual vibe which I love, you can bring food and snacks, and our kids love exploring and visiting the animals. We are excited to go back soon!

Vicki L.

Yelp
Kelly is amazing. Lovely seating options. Every wine rocked! Yum! Dog friendly. Excellent wine maker!

Nina S.

Yelp
We visited Thacher for the first time over the weekend. It was a little further out than we anticipated, but worth the little drive! The location is breathtaking - beautiful rolling hills and a peaceful setting. The wines were lovely, and our server was kind and shared lots of knowledge about the wines. Their pricing is very fair ($20 per tasting) and their pours were lovely. We love to come back on our next trip!

Joel H.

Yelp
Thacher has it all: great people, great views, great wine! It's worth the beautiful drive for all those reasons! Tony manages the business with class and those who pour have a customer focus. I highly recommend visiting!

Roy C.

Yelp
Beautiful winery on a former horse breeding farm. Thatcher has really been a great respite where you feel like you are in nature. We had a great taster who was really informed about their wines. They make mostly blends with some single varietal. We saw outside in Adirondack chairs looking at the rams nearby. Love it!

Greg B.

Yelp
We dropped our membership yesterday. The story: Based on recommendations, we visited Thacher with our dog during Covid. The wine was and is very good. At that time, we joined the wine club. So, we were recently up in Paso and setup an appointment to visit. It was a hot day, so my wife waited outside with our dog to see if we could taste inside or needed to be outside with the dog. I walked in and stated we were there for a 2:00 appointment and if our dog could be inside. A young man wiping out glasses glanced over and said in a snippy tone, "Our policy prohibits dogs anywhere on the property." Me: "I was with my dog when I signed up for membership." Him: "Well, when it's quiet we sometimes make an exception." Me: "So, I literally cannot taste here today?" Him: "Correct." I turned around, went outside, and told my wife. She had to use the outdoor restroom so I was waiting with our dog on the walkway when the girl who I believe was the pourer asked if I wanted to pick up our shipment "while I was there?" I told her yes and told her that she could cancel our membership while she was at it as we are always with our dog and will never be able to visit. She stated, "Oh, okay," in a cheery voice. My issue is not the policy. If you own a business, you can make your own rules. My beef is the arbitrary and capricious enforcement of the policy along with the crappy attitude used when communicating it. As an intermittently enforced policy, they had the ability to let us know about the rule and taste that day. They didn't. They could have informed us of the policy when we joined. They didn't. They could have enforced the policy in a polite manner. They didn't. So, end of membership was our choice. The extra star was because the wine really is quite good.

Susan G.

Yelp
Excellent winery! Their wines are quite sophisticated with no harshness but lots of interesting flavors and long flavor curves. Chris, our wine server at the tasting, was very knowledgeable and enjoyable. We learned a bunch and really enjoyed ourselves despite doing the tasting outside during a downpour! Chris made us quite cozy

Kristin P.

Yelp
We had a great visit to Thacher last weekend. Chris was an amazing host and all the rest of the staff were great and knowledgeable as well. Both my friend and myself have managed tasting rooms before and were extremely impressed. The wines were delish and loved the merch. We both bought shirts and ogled the glassware with the grasshopper! Highly recommend this place for the wine and the service.

Cyndie C.

Yelp
Thacher Winery is in a lovely location. The tasting area is quite large, and they also have quite a few tables where their customers may enjoy a picnic. We enjoyed the wines, and our server was quite knowledgeable. Their logo, the grasshopper, is fun. I imagine that this winery throws a good party. They are very down to earth people.

Jeffrey P.

Yelp
I don't think that there are enough superlatives to describe Thacher Winery. Not only is the vast majority of their wines excellent but their Stables Tour is worth a serious shout out. It is a comprehensive and intimate tasting that goes sometimes beyond two hours and is well worth the $60 or $40 if you happen to be a wine club member that you pay instead of the usual $20 or so for their normal wine tasting. Thatcher winery is a hidden gem well worth the time and travel.

Phillip A.

Yelp
We discovered Thacher by accident while dining at Hotel Cerro. The waiter suggested a bottle of Thatcher to pair with our dinner that was delicious! After TWO bottles between the four of us, we were convinced. On the way to our tasting at Daou we realized we had 10 minutes to stop into Thatcher to see if we could buy a few bottles of the vintage we had enjoyed over dinner the night before. We got the last case! After our brief visit in the wine shop, we made a note to return for a tasting. Three or four tastings later we are now Wine Club Members and to be honest, they treat us like family when we get down to Paso Robles. If you are looking for a non-pretentious, gorgeous place to enjoy spectacular wine with people who are truly passionate about the process, this is a MUST visit. After 30 years of Napa wines, I have found the Central Coast to have a truly amazing stable of fine wines that I prefer to the Northern California vineyard. Enjoy!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Thacher is our happy place. My husband and I became members back in 2010 and immediately fell in love. Sherman and Michelle were so warm and inviting. We've introduced many friends to the winery and it's always a crowd pleaser! One of our best memories is watching the rain come down from the barn during one of our most recent visits. Haven't had a bottle we didn't love.

Topher M.

Yelp
Always our first stop going into Paso - we bring snacks to pair with their amazing rhone varieties and just take our time. ALWAYS great service and clear knowledge and passion for the craft. Clearly a beautiful and prime location for weddings and other events too.

Kevin B.

Yelp
We have been to three tastings here and every time we go, we learn something new. The staff is amazing and the Stable is a wonderful venue for a private tasting. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!

kate s.

Yelp
Spent a Saturday morning here and absolutely loved it. There's a Gorgeous 25 minute drive from downtown Paso Robles to get there. The setting is beautiful the staff was super nice and knowledgeable. We ended up buying four bottles of their wine. You need reservations due to Covid.

Katie F.

Yelp
What a delightful afternoon! Great grounds, great staff and amazing wines! Controlled chaos by far my favorite of the day! Thank you Drew for taking such great care of us rowdy group of gals!

McKenzie S.

Yelp
I've been to Thacher three times now and they are consistently up there with great wines. I always enjoy the visit. On our last trip we brought a fellow wine lover. The long road through the ranch and up to the barn and tasting room is always a treat. I've seen them bottling twice now and it's rather fun to watch. Inside, the tasting room is luxuriously rustic - just the perfect aesthetic for the Paso countryside. Our pourer was quite friendly and very informative. She had mentioned that she was a longtime friend of the owners and seemed to know quite a bit about the history and it's wines. Tasting fee was $20/pp (obviously waived if you're a wine club member). The outstanding wine from Thacher that I adore is their Blanc de Blanc. A clean, sparkling wine that I swear has notes that remind me of a key lime pie. It's absolutely refreshing, slightly sweet, tangy and everything lovely. Thacher is definitely one to hit if you're exploring wineries in the area.

Dennis S.

Yelp
We visited Thacher Winery in late March and had a great experience. The wines are very good and the ambiance of the location paired very well with them. The service was exceptional and very well versed in the wines and their vineyard sources. I will definitely go back for more!

Lisa S.

Yelp
We recently visited Thacher Winery for the first time and will definitely be back. The wines were great and at a good price point and the service staff were attentive and gave us a good history lesson about the property. The setting was so peaceful to enjoy our wine tasting.

Jim M.

Yelp
Really nice wines representing the best of the region. Knowledgeable staff make it a great experience. Just became a member and highly recommend it.

Bev S.

Yelp
My favorite winery in Paso Robles. Very sophisticated offerings for this small production winery. I've been a wine club member since my first visit 10+ years ago. Thacher offers a lovely, relaxing setting in which to sip their delicious wines and the staff is very knowledgeable. The beautiful drive to the winery is an added bonus. It's one of those few wineries where all the wines are good but you can't buy them all! Definitely add Thacher to your itinerary on your next visit to Paso.

John F.

Yelp
All around amazing from the staff to the wine this is a must stop location in Paso. They have some less frequently seen varietals which are so good.

Aaron K.

Yelp
Thacher is one of my two favorite wineries in Paso, and I've probably tasted at 30 or more. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, with chickens coming up to visit us as we were tasting :) Another time when we went, the rain was pretty heavy, and it was cold, but we were accommodated very nicely in spite of the fact that tasting had to be outside due to COVID. Now for the wines: The philosophy here is to let the grapes speak for themselves without a lot of intervention. That just happens to be the style I am most in love with. I have been twice, and the first time, the wine that wowed our entire group was called Controlled Chaos. It was a blend of Mourvedre, Zinfandel, Grenache, and Counoise. Who would even think of blending those?! Truly an experience in a glass; nothing traditional about it, but it absolutely felt like a party. The other bottle I walked away with was the Resident Alien, a Petite Sirah/Tannat blend. Another blend I've never seen! That was heavy and dark and perfect with a big steak. The second time I went, about 4 months later, the wines blew me away again! I bought a 100% Grenache as well as a Cab/Syrah blend, and a 100% Mourvedre. More wines you don't see every day. The fact that all the wines are so high quality and consistent, along with their natural approach, has me setting the goal of being a member some day. If I were to knock one thing, here it is: When I went back to taste the second time, I was really hoping that I would get to taste a different lineup so I could experience more variety. As it turned out, probably 3 of the wines were the same on both tastings. But I will say that they definitely were willing to give pours of other bottles they had open. It's nice to go to a winery that isn't stingy and obviously wants you to have a great time. Again, Thacher is awesome. Totally great experience. And as confirmation: When I went to my other favorite winery in Paso holding the bag of wine that I bought from Thacher, everyone there told me how great Thacher is and that they can't wait to go pick up their club shipments from Thacher. Enough said!

Gabriela H.

Yelp
We had an amazing time at Thacher this Saturday! They have a beautiful property and the most sophisticated wines but the highlight of our visit was actually our unassuming, wonderful host, Bryce. He is super knowledgeable and very professional, not to mention a sommelier. We enjoyed getting educated and having an elevated wine tasting experience. If you can, ask for him.

Deb W.

Yelp
Wonderful winery with relaxing atmosphere - We were on a Grapeline tour where they had recommended this winery. We were not dissappointed. Great outdoor location ( loved the chickens who liked to be petted) with shade trees and a fantastic wine host named Bryce. Bryce demonstrated his vast knowledge about the wines themselves and taught us so much about winemaking. After each pour he answered any questions on that particular wine and was very personable. We were able to have our picnic lunch from Grapeline outdoors here which was great. One of the wines we tried was Solo Concert which we ended up purchasing. Very smooth 100% syrah with a great nose and taste to match. Would return here again. Thank you Bryce!
