Yelp
I was in Dupont Circle and in the mood for Thai food when I came across this restaurant. It was nearly empty at 3 pm, with only three other tables occupied and the second level deserted.
Ambiance and Decor
The decor was a mix of gaudy flowered wallpaper and red banquette seats with conspicuous patches of red tape. Chairs emblazoned with the restaurant's name added to the eclectic and somewhat disjointed aesthetic. The bathrooms were functional but uninspiring.
Drinks and Appetizers
I started with the Crazy Thai Lady cocktail, a mix of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, tequila, and rum, with a salt and Thai chili garnish. It was reminiscent of a margarita and was delicious. The Thai Chef dumpling appetizer, featuring steamed dumplings filled with pork, crab, and shrimp served with a sweet chili sauce, was decent.
Main Course
I ordered the kapow with shrimp. This dish included shrimp, red pepper, string beans, basil leaf, brown sauce, and a fried egg atop white rice. Nice aroma; however, the shrimp added little to the dish. Another protein might have been a better choice. Additionally, the plating was awkward, with a large, empty gap on the large plate that made it seem like something was missing.
Service
Service was minimal, making the entire experience feel uninviting.
Overall Experience
None of the dishes stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. Additionally, the service was lackluster, making it a no-go for a return visit!
