They were busy but you can tell they cater to the bigger parties. The food was great when grandma is in the kitchen but I reordered a chicken satay and the second time it tasted nothing like the first & that’s because grandma was taking a lunch break right next to my table. Make sure grandma is cooking for the most flavorful Thai food ever. Highly recommend dipping the spare ribs in the peanut sauce- next level flavor

This little gem is a winner when it comes to decent food. The food was pretty decent and the price was even better for somewhere in central Amsterdam. Just a short walk from the bulldog coffee shop is is on a busy walking route. We went when it was as 29c outside, there was 2 of us and they sat us next to another couple in what can be described as the worlds smallest restaurant It was a sweat box. Managing to then get a space on the bench outside and it so much better. Had the Tom Yum and it was pretty decent. Not the best I’ve had but very close Also we had the Massaman curry and it was really good. We shared on dish between 2 and it was just enough Would go back there. Staff were good. Only one nice guy the folk in the kitchen were having a bad day and were a bit rude.

This is my favorite spot when it comes to Thai food in Amsterdam. Absolutely fantastic experience! It's usually very crowded so it's normal to eat close by strangers. Food quality is excellent and prices are very honest for quantity too. This is a place for locals, don't miss it if you are around!

Google
I had dinner here and it was a mixed experience. I ordered the Tom Yam Koeng and the Kou Pad "BIRD" Luom Mid. The Kou Pad was excellent - a flavorful and well-executed dish that we really enjoyed. However, the Tom Yam Koeng was a bit of a letdown. It didn't taste like the traditional Tom Yam I had in Thailand, perhaps it's a Dutch adaptation of the dish. The restaurant itself is very small, and it was quite hot inside, which made the dining experience a bit uncomfortable. There were a few benches outside, which would be a better option on a nice day. Overall, if you're looking for a quick and tasty Thai meal, this is a decent option, but don't expect a completely authentic Thai taste, especially with their Tom Yam.

There are several waiters and they don't pay attention to the customers. I don't recommend it, it was just horrible, they could see that my friend was having lunch but at no time did they come to ask me and the other customers were served as they went along. In addition they are not accommodating in the food we asked for a dish without meat and the dish of my friend arrived with sickening pieces of meat . 🤮 Besides I never got my ordered dish.

Google
A tiny restaurant with great foods. Portion size is huge. Highly recommend Curry dishes. Pad Thai is good but a bit too sweet to me.

Google
Service was speedy and food came out quick. Ordered beef as protein for both dishes but found the beef to be a bit tough. Could be more tender. Otherwise, food tastes decent and portions are okay for the price.

Google
Not a fancy spot, we sat at a table outside and service was extremely casual. But food was delicious!!! And huge. We could not finish and got to take the rest to go!

Yelp
Came here for dinner. Gets really really packed inside to the point you have to get up so other people can be seated which can be annoying. Also hard to get the waiter attention given how busy it is. The food was really tasty. We tried the beef curry which was my favorite and Thom yum soup which I thought was okay. Would come back again!

Yelp
Minuscule place with the larger, slightly more expensive restaurant across the street -- I'm told this is the more fun experience. Both had lines when we arrived but this place was only 15 minutes. The place is very small and very cramped -- don't come here if you want personal space -- you'll be sharing tables. They can makes lots of dishes vegan-friendly, so we opted for the red curry with tofu and the pad Thai -- both without egg and fish sauce to be vegan. Total was €30.50, spendy but that's Amsterdam. The food came out extremely quickly. The pad Thai came in a large portion, coated with an authentic tamarind sauce, with tofu, veggies, and a side of ground peanuts. The red curry -- which we asked for to be Thai spicy -- was nicely spiced, rich and complex, served with a variety of veggies, again in a good portion, and with steamed white rice. Delicious. Unfortunately, it's cash only, which is displayed on the wall when you walk in. Just be prepared or you'll pay terrible rates and fees at a nearby ATM. All in all, great food with vegan options in a long-running central Thai place in Amsterdam. Recommended.

Yelp
Very Possibly The Beat Thai Food on Planet Earth. Ok so this place isn't fancy, not the most Instagram'ble pics or anything like that but the food is beyond incredible. Also the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable especially considering how much more food places charge in the area. I got the Chicken Curry and Wifey ordered the Drunken Noodle (or was it Pad Thai ‍). We tried each other's dishes and the winner was both. Our taste buds were overwhelmed with delight on both dishes. This is the kind of place you will not leave hungry and you will want to come back multiple times and try the entire menu. At least that was our thoughts. Me and Wifey both agree on this one that food is incredible and worth a trip to Amsterdam just to stop here. So if your anywhere near the area definitely check out this spot. Trust me you will not be disappointed. Ps: Shout out to Action Bronson and the F*ck That is Delicious Show for recommending this place. Lights out

Yelp
Couldn't resist this small shack. They have had many reviews and were rated high on Google. Also, there is always queue here so it must be good! I ordered a house special, Massaman Curry with beef. There was a delightful sweetness to the curry. It's a mild curry with slight peanut tones. The beef had enough fat and connective tissue that gave it this great chewiness to go along with the Jasmine rice. This curry is comparable to the best one I've had in Toronto. I just wished it had more peanut and more spicy because I would have ordered extra rice just for the sauce! Great value for the meal. Would love to try their whole menu. Cheers! I couldn't resist coming here as there was always a queue to get in.and the Google reviews were both rated high and there

Yelp
Thaise Snackbar Bird delivers big flavors and even bigger portions in its very small restaurant setting. The authentic Thai dishes are so delicious, and the attentive service enhances the dining experience. Keep in mind, though, that only credit card payments are accepted. If you're seeking a delightful Thai meal, Thaise Snackbar Bird won't disappoint.

Markus C.

Yelp
This place as too much hype. The food is ok but nothing stellar and the place is cramped. The little man working there is annoying like a mosquito in the middle of the night and rude.

Saw B.

Yelp
The best Thai food in town. Portions are perfect for sharing two people. Great service too. Food is delicious as well. Keep in mind this place is small so you might have to wait a bit for dinner time. Lunch time is less crowded.

Cooper P.

Yelp
Very good Thai food, I stopped by here many times on my trip to Amsterdam. The service is very kind and I loved the ambience of a small family shop.

Yelp
This place is a hole in the wall but the best restaurants usually are. We took a DAM boat tour and our guide Morgan recommended this place. Glad we checked it out. We are big fans of Thai food and this one is a good one. I had the green curry and Shaun had the pad thai. Both were excellent in terms of heat and spice levels. I loved the food. It is super small there are 3 tables and a few counter spots. This is more a take out joint. You will need to wait but be prepared for excellent Thai food. The wait is worth it.

Michael K.

Yelp
Great Thai food for on the run or perhaps eating in. Reasonably priced, great taste and friendly customer service. We had our order to go and they didn't disappoint. Great food!

Yelp
We went out of our way to find this restaurant during our stay and it was full of people inside and out. My bf insisted that we go inside to eat, but it was so crowded that they made us sit next to two strangers who were clearly a couple. It was awkward, but there was not even space for them to walk around. I swear it's a fire hazard. Anyway, despite my discomfort, we ordered two dishes and well, we absolutely loved the food. I've had lots of great Thai food at many Thai places all over. This place definitely ranks in the top! The price is great, especially for Amsterdam, and you can always order out if you want, which is a blessing. They even have deals! I completely recommend coming here, but I would rather not eat inside if I can help it.
google avatar

Yelp
From what I could tell, the Thaise Snackbar Bird is the less fancy (think hole in the wall) and less expensive than their sister restaurant right across the street. There's tight seating, including bar height seating facing the street, for maybe 20 people and the kitchen is right there so it can get hot! Food was delicious, generously portioned, and service was nice. I'm glad my husband and I were able to stop by!
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Delicious red panang curry here! With chicken and spices. I was Drenched in with gustatory sweating eating in this hole in the wall restaurant. But would absolutely got back again! Tip of the day: order to go because it's super small space.

Yelp
Saw long line previous night. Decided to have a try the next afternoon. We went around 2pm. One table before us. Got seated in 5 min. Amazing food!

Yelp
A tip: The Bird Thai restaurant in front of this snack shack IS NOT AFFILIATED but some locals told me both are just as good except this one is more "fast food" while the other one in front is a more upscale sit down restaurant. When people are willing to squeeze into a tiny place to eat, you know it's good! We literally shared a tiny table with another 2 customers but it really didn't matter because the food was phenomenal and fast! We started with delicious and tender ribs with sweet and sour sauce. For the main dish, we got the beef Pad Thai and the sweet and sour chicken. The pad Thai was really tasty, perfectly sweet and salty and the beef was very tender. It had bits of tofu as well (which I loved) and topped off with lime and fresh crushed peanuts. Probably the most authentic pad Thai I have ever had and I've had lots of different Pad Thai in LA and OC. Who knew you could find good pad Thai in Amsterdam!? Lol The sweet and sour chicken came with pineapple and onions and a huge side of white rice. The chicken was tender as well. Both meals were really big! The portions are definitely shareable between two. I'm giving this place 5 stars because it was cheap, fast, delish and very fresh!

Yelp
Real authentic Thai food in the Red Light District. I get the feeling this is a local hang out. Not many tourists. Like everyone says, get there early and it's a tiny place, so grab a seat at the counter, the bench outside or share a table with a local! Best quality and money for the amount of food you get. Yes, things can be expensive in Amsterdam, but this place is cheaper than the others, tastes better and serves you more food. I could happily eat here everyday. They do a brisk take out business with locals on bikes. I heard more Dutch than any other language, so yeah, it's local & authenic. Had a great pepper & ginger prawn dish with hot tea and could barely finish. Kept me powered for the rest of the evening & night. Definitely go here and not the restaurant across the street. Follow the locals!

Yelp
Watery pad thai + overcooked, rubbery shrimp = disappointing after reading all the hype. Ribs were good but nothing to write home about. Not going back because it's just average and there are lots of other, better options around Amsterdam. Still burping up the mediocre lunch. Blech.

Yelp
Came here last year and am going back and reviewing my favorite places in Amsterdam as my wife and I get ready for our next trip to Europe- I'm hopi g on this next trip we will find a place we like as much as this. Very small shop with a wait (we ate here twice) but the line moves quick. Highly recommend the red beef curry- at this point in my life, if I had to choose a last meal, it would be the red beef curry from Thais Snackbar Bird.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
Amazing curries. Boyfriend (who loves Thai food) said it was the best Thai he'd ever tasted and couldn't stop raving about his chicken red curry. It was a little bit too spicy for him though, but he loved it nonetheless. I'm less a connoiseur of Thai food, but I liked my tofu green curry too. The tofu is fried and cut into thin strips, which was unexpected. Portions are HUGE - no one in the restaurant finished their food. For 25 cents you can have a takeaway box. The inside of the restaurant is extremely loud and packed. Expect to be sharing a table and bumping elbows. Also, the bathroom is inside the kitchen, so the journey to the toilet is kind of precarious (I thought someone was gonna pour some hot curry on me) and there is no sink in the bathroom which is a little sketchy. Cash only.

Yelp
Legitimately one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever been too! We were visiting Amsterdam and hungry after a long bike tour around the city. Our wonderful tour guide recommended this small gem of a place, a complete hole in the wall that cooks the best darn Thai food you will ever have. The pad Thai had searing hot/ wok flavor that just brought me back to the street food in Bangkok. The green curry was thick, lush with flavor and packed with freshly cooked veggies that had soaked in the herby coconut milk but also had a crunch due to the high cooking heat. We sat outside on the bench happily and got to eat our food as people were jealously walking by! I cannot wait to get back to Amsterdam to eat here again!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in here for a snack - literally. The ribs were the best thing I ate all day. I HIGHLY recommend them. They also have a nicer dining room across the street called Bird. This place is great, especially if you are on a budget but want really good food. PROS: Ribs Prices

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Very small restaurant but quick service and great food. Everyone at our table loved their meals. The sweet and sour chicken was one of the best I've had.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good Thai food in the heart of the Red District in Amsterdam. The place fills up quick because the food is tasty, spicy and well-priced for hungry tourists and locals.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
*CASH ONLY* This place was incredible from the food to the environment. The food was extremely tasty and there were plenty of vegetarian options. The portions for the main dishes were pretty large - a friend had to use a take home box. The restaurant itself was capable of seating about 20 people but we were packed into a small space, not necessarily a bad thing though. With the kitchen right next to the seating area, we could smell everything being made... incredible, and very reasonable prices

Yelp
Very underrated restaurant if you pass by it. The fried rice are delicious you can taste the wok he. These people know what they are doing, some restaurant just sell food to make money but this one, the food are very worth it's price. Just cost around 10 euros and is one of my top restaurant in Amsterdam. Tip: If you can't finished the food you can take it away aswell. Top: Wish the place was a bit bigger sometimes, you cannot even move while you are eating inside.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
delicious food, very friendly staff and affordable prices. but you shouldn't order spicy food there if you're sensible. If you like spice, you'll be well satisfied :)
google avatar

Aaron V.

Yelp
I still have dreams about this place. Probably the best Thai food I've had in my life. Don't bother with the more expensive and fancy sister restaurant next door, this is clearly the place where all the locals go. I had green curry chicken, beef soup and a few other things. All were perfectly balanced with spiciness and flavor. I liked it so much I went back the next day (even though I was only in town for a few days). If and when I return to Amsterdam, Thai Snackbar will be my first stop.
google avatar

Debi E.

Yelp
Chicken pad thai (#30?)- BEST EVER. Also, the chicken kabobs with whatever that peanut-y sauce is- also the best thing ever (we kept the leftover sauce on the plate and dipped a few bites of the pad Thai into the sauce- this stuff is amazing) The Tom Yum with prawns (#6)- I've had better.
google avatar

Yelp
I wish this place delivered to america. It's that good- it's pad Thai paradise!. Small little nook that doesn't let you charge your phone in case your phone dies like mine. You can see those cooks whippin the bok choy up in the air. The red pepper flakes on the table were fresh af, - super spicy. Perfect with the pad Thai. My friend and I were crying we added a little to much spice but it was too good to stop. Never thought Amsterdam would have such FINEASS Thai food!
google avatar

Yelp
Thaise Snackbar Bird is thé go-to place for Thai food. It may look like the line outside is long, but the queue goes fast and it's well worth any wait. I got to know this spot through Viceland's TV series F*ck that's delicious, starring Action Bronson, and I decided to go try it out after a good day of work. After 10 minutes I was allocated a seat at the tiny restaurant - in the corner of the window-view bar. It's a pretty funny location since both tourists and locals come check out what you've ordered. Once you start eating, you forget about that background noise though. The green curry with chicken was the dish I tried. Perfect balance of creamy and spicy, it is a true recommendation for anyone. After wolfing down about half, I was ready to take a nap and the owners of the place were kind enough to give a doggy bag with my leftovers. Can't wait to finish that second part.

Yelp
I wandered over to this Thai snack bar in Amsterdam because I heard some pretty good reviews for this place. Confusingly, across the street are also 2 different restaurants also named Bird. I actually heard they have the same owner, or at least one of them does? It's not too far from the train station, down a large pedestrian street, and is very easy to find by the large lit up sign. The place was a little crowded, with people even on the bench outside, but I got put on a table big enough for 4 people diagonally across a random friendly stranger. I got chicken with basil and chili. I asked for it hot because hey, I can handle hot... right? Added some extra Thai peppers on for good measure. .... okay I'm really glad I got a Fanta to go with it because holy **** that was hot. It was so good though! Service was very fast and responsive, food is good, and they take card. Recommended!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome! The Thai cooks are simply amazing. They can whip up the best pad Thai I've had in only 6 minutes....incredible!
google avatar

Steve Y.

Yelp
Smoke weed. Eat here. Pass out. Repeat. Great Thai food. I even ate some when I wasn't high to verify.
google avatar

Gigi L.

Yelp
Love this little hole-in-the-wall. The experience to use their bathroom is a little harrowing - I dare you to try it! - but their food is yummy, and I'll be back to have it again the next time I'm in town. I love their set-up, especially when you get a seat at the bar, looking out on the street to people watch while you nom.
google avatar

Eric Z.

Yelp
Amazing pork Pad Thai and red curry chicken with coconut. Great family run place with the best Thai food we have had in awhile.
google avatar

Thomas D.

Yelp
In this very small restaurant, you will probably find one of the best thai cuisine to be served in the city. My wife and I shared a meal consisting of some appetizers, a curry, and pad thai, oh boy it was delicious! I highly recommend Thaise to any foodie looking for a great dinner in Amsterdam
google avatar

Melody W.

Yelp
Some of the best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. Well worth the wait in the line...
google avatar

Martin M.

Yelp
Get there early or miss out on some of the best Thai food I my self have every tasted. I got the spicy prawn soup which the broth was just full of flavor and very spicy which I love! the prawn with mixed veggies in a habanero broth was just amazing and the dish was very colorful with all the different veggies it came with.. the shrimp snapped wth every bite and the habanero broth had amazing flavor. Definitely glad I stopped here to eat; also Plan around being here by 12pm the place is small and fills up quick. 1/2 people can always sit on The window stools. I will eat here before I leave Amsterdam. Place is too good!

Yelp
The Bird Snackbar is the little brother (or sister) of The Bird Restaurant, located on the other side of the street. It serves as the take away of the restaurant and as a snackbar. Maybe the name "snackbar" is misleading, as in The NLs this means a place with unhealthy fatty snacks. The Thai know better how to do a snack. The Thai food is exactly the same as in the restaurant, but then for better prices and in a cosy atmosphere. Tables next to each other and around diner time this place will be packed, leaving you to wait in line outside until your name is called. When inside, you will find yourself in one of the best snackbars you can ever find yourself. The food is yummie. Thom Ka Kai is delicious and the meals are good proportionated. You an easily eat a soup and share meal and have enough. The only unfortunate thing is that they often run out of sticky rice (my favorite to dump into the soup). But it's not worth crying over, because the food it sooo nice! If you want a more quite and long diner, go to the other side: the restaurant.

Yelp
The Thai Bird Snack Bar is a Zeedijk institution. Dating back to the eighties when the Zeedijk still was dangerous and to be avoided, The Bird has consistently been serving great Thai food at low prices. The snack bar is small, usually crammed with people and simple but clean. While it always looks packed, the staff somehow always finds to squeeze in a few extra people. I suggest sitting on one of the high bar stools behind the large window and enjoy the steady flow of tourists and freaks with your food!
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Yes, in this city known for it's history, cannabis, & red lights, there is a fabulous little Thai restaurant tucked into an unassuming alleyway. The snackbar is the sister restaurant to the the Thaise restaurant across the street. This less formal, no reservations-required location is much more low key. I felt like I was invited to somebody's house and their mom was cooking for me. There are about four tables and a 5 seat counter for you to enjoy. It's not open that late so it's not great for large groups or late night debauchery. Word of the wise, eat then go get yourself into some trouble with the red light ladies around the corner. Everything is delicious and you can't go wrong ordering anything from the menu. Can't decide between fried rice or noodles? What the hell, you're in Amsterdam! Get them both!! My favorite dish was the noodle and rice chicken stir-fry. Why stress on making decisions when you can get the best of both worlds.

Mark D.

Yelp
Came here for a quick snack because of the high score and there was a queue outside. This queue went down quickly and there was a free table so I could sit down. They don't serve alcohol so I had water and ordered a Pad Thai which arrived within 10 minutes and was fantastic both in quality and quantity. The service was great and the place very efficient. I fully recommend
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Now, as someone who's been to a few Thai places in Amsterdam, let me tell you that this isn't some 3 star Michelin deal here. HOWEVER, the price-quality ratio is 100% tummy-filling goodness. I had never even heard about this place until a friend of mine who was visiting from Belgium brought me here just a couple of weeks ago. First noticed by me, was the size of the place. Tiny, but the smells coming from the kitchen soon distracted me from the little space that we had (we were 4) in the corner table. Service was quick, and very friendly. We were probably served within 15 minutes, each of us having ordered an entree. I shared with my partner and my friend and his sister ordered each their own main course. The Quality was great, for the level of service you get. No-frills, good cheap eating, where the curry comes spicy ;)

Yelp
Sick of paying 15 euros for a thai chicken curry or pad thai? Wow, so am I and I'm so disgruntled with the Amsterdam asian food scene. Horrendously expensive for food that is 2 or 3 times cheaper anywhere else in the world. How expensive can some rice and chicken be? So to find this little place with main dishes for 10-12 euros I was ready to say yes even before trying the food. Fortunately, after sampling the fish cakes (5.00) and tom yam kai soup (6.50), the food didn't disappoint. I need to go back and try the pad thai and the green curry to be able to give my full endorsement. Yes, the only trade-off with this place is that you're nearly sitting on top of the other patrons and you're a stone throw's from the Red Light, but honestly that is part of the charm. Who doesn't occasionally like a gritty, authentic meal? This is the way I expect my Thai food - fast service, reasonable prices and good flavor.
google avatar

Meaghan O.

Yelp
Fun tiny location with good service and great food. I got the green curry. Perfectly seasoned and fresh ingredients.
google avatar

Marco L.

Yelp
Mmmmmmmm. Birrrd.... Avoid the larger restaurant across the street. The snackbar has much better food. Same owner but no comparison in quality. Strange but true. EDIT: No longer the same owner... Good move.
google avatar

Cheyne N.

Yelp
This was my favorite place to eat in Amsterdam. It's a hole in the wall and you'll typically wait at least 10 minutes for a table but well worth it. I only ordered one thing Kwai Tiou Nam with shrimp and it's the best. Similar to Pho but Thai style. Lots of noodles, shrimp, fish balls and veggies. Great flavor and a very hearty meal. Add just a little bit of their hot sauce for an extra kick, add to much and you'll pay the price. It's spicy! It was great considering the wet weather we had while there and the long nights out. A good bowl of soup always does the trick. Waiters are very attentive and food came out quick. It's also very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend eating here and I wish I could find a similar place in the states.

Allison C.

Yelp
I still dream of the beef pad Thai from this place. I really wanted to go back here a 2nd time before we left, but didn't make it. I shall be back Thaise! Also, it's a cash only joint so be prepared to bring them euros.

Yelp
I never get sick of this place. I eat here every time I come to Amsterdam and love the vibe. Great food and a very unique experience.
