Thario's Kitchen

First of all what a cute street name this place is located on, Santa Lane. This restaurant had its own personality with the different decor. There is a table of Lego’s, games, and books and I thought perfect for a family to keep kids entertained with non technology fun or a great place to come eat and have fun with your adult friends too. The inside is cozy and the outside is cool to enjoy the ocean air. Our food was delicious. I must come back to try the other pizzas as they all sounded so good. My only negative would be I would love ice with my water. The sodas are served as a can so a little pricey for no refill option.

What an excellent experience. We’re from the East Coast and know good Italian food when we find it, and this was some of the best we’ve had in this area. The owner himself was our waiter and his wife is the chef, which made the entire evening feel personal and authentic. I’m Italian and very particular about Italian food, so I don’t say this lightly—the flavors, quality, and care in the dishes were outstanding. If you appreciate real, well-prepared Italian cuisine, this place is absolutely worth visiting.

A sweet couple brought me in to live paint their wedding dinner at Thario's, and man, what a dream night it was. The restaurant is so warm and eclectic, you feel like you're hanging out in your favorite artist friend's boho living room. Thais and Mario are just about the sweetest and most welcoming people you could ever hope to interact with, and they continue that sense of home and family with their hospitality.

Family owned and absolutely delicious food! Everything we tried was yummy and we will definitely be going back. Caveat: food can take a while to come out. They also host Tango, and Latin music dancing there!!!

The owner was super welcoming and kind. Service was great! We enjoyed our outdoor seating that was reserved for our large party. The pizzas were delish. And the salads were awesome as well. I would definitely return and try something new...or maybe another pizza...hmmm...

We went to this restaurant for the third time because the food has always been very good, although the prices are a bit high. The owner, Mario, was the one who attended us. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer and asked that no more bread be brought. Later, when the pasta dishes arrived, we asked for bread on two separate occasions. We were five people, and we like to eat our meals with bread, but it was never brought to the table. When we mentioned this, Mario explained that the bread is “for the other families” and that only one plate of bread is given per table. He even told us that if we wanted, he could sell us bread for $6 to take home, when what we wanted was to have bread with our meal. The situation was very uncomfortable and hard to understand. It’s a shame, because the food is good, but the service—especially coming from the owner—was very poor. We left with a bitter feeling and decided not to return.

Well done! Tharios. Knocked it out of the park. Some of the best Italian food we've ever had. Every menu item was simply put perfection. Definitely we'll be coming back when in town. Great job!

Beautiful experience! Mario was a sheer delight, he accommodated our large group, catered to our needs, and didn't forget a name! All the while he was greeting and seating many that came in after us. There was so many delightful things! From the decor, the lovely outdoor seating, the beautiful indoor seating, the dishware, and even the bathroom, everything was delightful! The food, oh my gosh the FOOD- from start to finish AMAZING! Every recommendation was spot on, just a sheer delight from start to end! We will certainly return! Grateful to have had the experience and enjoy all that was provided by very skillful hands!

Came here around 7pm on Saturday as a party of 7. Got seated in a couple minutes. The restaurant was almost full. Since there was only one server at the time it took about 10-15 minutes to get our orders taken. The food came out within 5-10 minutes. They gave us some chili flakes and parmesean. The chicken alfredo was good. Not too salty but the chicken was tender and the pasta was just right. The insalata pizza was super delicious. The arugula and prosciutto gave it a lot of flavor. The garlic bread didn't have much garlic flavor on it and some of the garlic was burnt however the bread was fluffy. Overall a great italian place. A bit slow service because they were understaffed but understandable. The server was also very friendly.

Delicious Italian food. The bread and pizza dough is delicious. We always come here when we do a beach day. Kids love the pizza. We love their sandwiches and have yet to try the Burrata dish. That's next! No pics because we are alway so hungry we never get to take one. Very nice staff.

What an experience. From the decor, to the service, to the amazing food. Just wow!! The owners are amazing. The chef (wife/owner) told me about her 50 year old sourdough starter after I inquired about the fabulous bread. It has the best chew on it. I asked for a couple loaves to go. Ordered a pizza from the lunch menu. Yum !! I feel like I could go on & on about how great everything was ! Will definitely share this gem with everyone who enjoys a great dining experience as much as I do.

A great location by the beach with a beautiful patio. The owners are so nice and welcoming. The food was delicious. All 5 of us raved about the dishes we were served.

I have to start out by saying that I was originally going to give this place 3 stars because while the food was good, it was not great, more like average overall but then I remembered that amazing Caprese Salad me and the wife shared and just for that salad alone, I decided to add another star to the review. We stopped at this new place that a coworker had recommended since we mentioned trying something local but new (to us). Since this was located in a potentially busy place for a Friday night, we decided to try them for an early lunch instead. When we arrived, the place was just starting to open so not everything was setup. Out waiter was very nice, and brought us all of the specials and decided to chat with us about the place. All-in all it was a very nice experience but I felt the food itself, our main entrees, were really nothing to scream about. I had a pizza and the wife enjoyed their meatballs and both were very meh.. But the hero of the whole meal was definately that Caprese Salad, OMG!! I had never had a Caprese Salad that was that good. The tomatoes were great, the cheese, the light homemade pesto, everything was simply divine. If anything we will be returning to this place just for that salad because it was that damm good!

This was one of the best Italian meals we have had! The owner was so gracious and gave us some homemade sauce with bread which was divine. The pizza was fresh, flavorful and served hot. I got the spicy mussels and shrimp and the flavors were phenomenal!! The service was amazing and so attentive. Definitely a must if you are in Carpenteria. 10/10. The outside seating was so relaxing and had such fun decor. Thank you Thario's!!!

What a wonderful fin! It feels like escaping into Italy for an afternoon. Great staff, delightful and warm atmosphere. Relaxing. Delicious food. Will definitely go back!

Ambience is perfect. Even with the freeway just on the other side of the road, the little storefronts and restaurants have created a little haven away from that. The food was pretty good. We were passing through and felt peckish for pasta, and this places showed up. We got the Torta Caprese, the Viaggio Italiano, the Primavera Rosa pasta with chicken, the Alfredo pasta with chicken, and the lasagna. I really loved the Alfredo. The sauce was thick and hearty. Definitely creamy without being "milky". This dish is more of the Americanized alfredo, so if that's what you're looking for, it will hit that comfort, fulfilling spot. The Primavera Rosa was good and had a nice depth of flavor, but it seemed like there was too much going on. Something in the sauce stayed with us for hours after the meal (issues with digesting). We got both pasta dishes with chicken, and they were decent chunks! The lasagna was okay, but a bit basic. The meat inside was mushy and a bit too oily. It didn't seem like there was ricotta in it, and if there was, it was extremely minimal. It was also better straight out of the oven. Once it cooled a bit, it lost flavor. The Torta Caprese was really good. The flaky pastry stayed pretty solid while eating through it. The Viaggio Italiano was superb. The meats were a good quality, I really liked the salami. The burrata with pesto drizzle was perfect. We rounded off the meal with a cup of coffee, and woo man, it was delightfully strong. Almost to Turkish coffee level (obviously without the coffee grounds). If I was traveling the area again, I'd go back.

We stopped in for early Happy Hour dinner and were completely surprised and impressed by their excellent food, bevs and service. Ordered off the Happy Hour menu and tried the gourmet veggie pizza (thin crust) and baked Chicken Parm bites. Both were delicious and authentic. And at $12.50/plate even the portions were reasonably generous. We shared a full bottle of Chardonnay at $25. They even served a complimentary olive and sour dough bread plate! Prices were pre-Covid. Highly recommend the hot gooey brownie bites with perfect vanilla ice cream. The service was excellent as well. The vibe is great and the decor cozy and creative. We highly recommend the cute out of the way trattoria. It's well worth making the trip from Santa Barbara or even Ventura.

I loved the casual setting, prices reasonable and food was delicious. Great for a family dinner with the kids. Service was excellent. Passionfruit dessert not good but everything else was delicious

YUM! I picked up lasagna to go and called it in at 4:30. They told me it would be ready at 5 and it was. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. They give you a small container of cheese and utensils/napkins. I have never tasted lasagna like this. It was on the pricier side, but well worth it in my opinion.

Everything about this restaurant is perfection. From the fresh food to the daily specials to the excellent service, this place exceeded my expectations. I don't write many reviews and I wasn't asked to write this, nor was I given a "gift" or discount to write this. I was just extremely impressed by the quality of food and service. Thank you to the proprietors.

First time here for a late lunch after visiting the Seaside Garden nursery, and oh the burst of different flavors stimulating our tastebuds! They started us off with a complementary homemade bread and homemade olive tapenade spread. I asked for extra olive spread for my garlic bread that was also so homemade as well. We had the puttanesca that was full of flavors. A side of meatball came with the Gorgonzola pasta was really rich and creamy. The beet salad with Barada was very refreshing. Wygu steak was tasteful and tender. Besides scrumptious delicious food, the ambience was so relaxing and music and above all the staff was so attentive and friendly. This is a family owned husband and wife business the food showcase the love that they put into this place. We will surely come back!

Stumbled upon Thario's Kitchen on Saturday and boy did we land in the right place. For starters, the ambiance was very nice. Not sure how to explain it, but it was nicely decorated. It had a homey feeling. Now to the food. My aunt had the lasagna and loved it! I tried it and by far it was the best lasagna I have ever had! One of my sisters had the Steve 'O Sandwich and she really liked it. It was huge! My nephew had the Bolognese Pasta which was also on point. It was so good that by the time I wanted to try it, he had polished it off! My other sister had the Cipolla Rosa Pizza. She said it was delicious! Last but not least, I went for the Shrimp Pesto Salad and I had them make my shrimp spicy. It was the bomb! Lots of large shrimp! Absolutely over the top. I did not leave not one single leaf of lettuce. Another plus, is that they brought bread with olives. Delish! Let's not forget about the service. It was 5+! Can't wait to go back. This place is a hidden gem! p.s. Darn it. We did not take any pictures of the food. Booo!

What a little comfy Italian spot! I came here for pizza as I was killing time for the alpaca farm nearby and was surprised at how good the food was. The place was pretty empty for the first hour of opening on a Sunday but don't let that distract you for how amazing the food is. Bread - Complimentary with some olives in olive oil. Bread was crunchy and buttery. (4.5/5) Fuego Diego - This pizza had a little kick to it from the spicy sausages. Pretty much a supreme pizza with all the awesome toppings. It's delicious. (4.5/5) Lasagna - Best lasagna I've ever had, no joke. I prob had the first batch of the day since I had to wait 30 minutes for it to be done (they told me it would take 30 minutes). Cheese game was on point and everything was just spot on. Top was crispy from the cooked cheese. A must get! (5/5) I'm surprised it wasn't too busy on a Sunday when the food is actually super good. Ofc it's not cheap, a pizza and lasagna cost me about $53. Also there was a small credit card fee ($1.50 for me). Service was comforting and they ended up giving us free chocolate heart desserts that were leftover from Valentine's Day. Worth getting!

Delightful gem hidden away on Santa Claus Lane in Carpenteria (Padero Lane). A wonderful local couple have filled the restaurant with artwork and interesting objects to make the space feel like home. Al fresco dining under a trellis with orange and yellow trumpet flowers, and heaters for when the fog rolls in. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Decided to check out this place. It was closed on a Saturday afternoon for no known reason. Ok, we will check it out again. Came back a couple of weeks later for their happy hour on Friday from 3-5. There were several tables unbussed, no staff anywhere. Knocked on the door and some guy said they are closed for the next hour. So the happy hour is literally one hour of service?! Anyway, NEVER going back to this place. Not sure how they actually are still in business but they won't be getting mine.

The Lasagna Tray was the hit at our July 4th Pool Party. I've have brought the Lasagna Tray every year for the last four years to the party. Highly recommend it if you want to be the hit at your next potluck

Delish local Italian restaurant. The shrimp dishes are packed with large, juicy shrimp, and the white sauce pastas are creamy, rich, and comforting. You can tell the chef puts real care into each dish--it takes a little time, especially when it's crowded, but it's always worth the wait. The ambiance feels like a cozy mom-and-pop Italian spot blended with a laid-back beach vibe. We make the short drive from Santa Barbara all the time. A favorite for sure!

Finally! A restaurant with excellent flavors and high quality food! This is a hidden gem and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. A fun eclectic vibe that is welcoming to all. Everything I ordered was full of flavor and done just right. Great portions, excellent service and kind owners. Cannot wait to return! Best chicken piccata I've head!

Came here Thanksgiving weekend while camping at Rincon. What a great dinner!. We had a very generous and tasty salad ans lasagna to share. We also have the bread with marinara which was freshly baked and yummy. Our server was pleasant and attentive but not overly so. Going back before we leave. Highly recommend.

Thario's is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants. Whether for an informal lunch or a romantic date night, the ambiance, service and individualized care they provide is wonderful. And the food! Yes, the menu is varied and their daily specials are ALWAYS interesting. I can't say enough good things about this hidden GEM on Santa Clause Lane.

We showed up when restaurant was quite busy. They were quick to acknowledge and after getting our drinks at the bar we had a table within minutes. The food is excellent and the owners greeted us. We are from out of town but will be back!

Found this quaint little place on our way back from Solvang. The service was excellent and the food mouth watering. The owner was there, and was so friendly. I will definitely be back to try the recommended lasagna.

We were looking forward to a great meal given the reviews here on YELP. Unfortunately, we had a pretty disappointing meal at Thario's. SERVICE Upon arrival to the (nearly empty) restaurant, there was no one that greeted us for more than 10 minutes (no problem, maybe they were busy). Server eventually saw us standing there and said, "just pick any table with 4 chairs" and walked off. So we did and sat down. Ten minutes later, no one stopped to say hello nor bring us menus. So I walked to the bar and picked them up. Fifteen minutes later they brought a bottle of water and cups for us. Ten minutes after that, someone came and took our order. 70 minutes after arrival, our food came out. Water never refilled. No one else stopped by the table until time to clear and plates and bring the check. Which we still waited on..... So, the service was actually less than the minimum we would expect from a service team. Again, it was NOT a busy night. FOOD Pizza was great! Lasagna was flavorless. Seasoning would have helped for sure. I would have asked for salt/pepper, but then again, no one stopped by to ask "how's the food?" There was a fish bone (?!) in the lasagna. I'm not sure they even serve fish, so not even sure how this would happen. But it was clearly a fish bone. You should also know that there is a surcharge to use a credit cart. What (higher end) restaurant charges a fee to use a credit card in today's age? Seriously. This was a disappointing meal that we were looking forward to.

Tharios is a hidden gem. The food is amazing. We all had something different and we all had to try each others dish or pizza. I've already been back and I'm sure I will visit again. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting, eclectic and very creative. I'm sure they will get busier, especially summer weekends. Visit anytime and I'm sure you will get great service.

Went to Tharios for my third time. So quaint and welcoming! Had the Fontina pizza and added pepperoni. Super delicious but be prepared to eat it with a knife and fork. There was a lot going on and it was so flavorful!! If you want a pizza that's a bit simpler I would go with the Margherita or the Al Diavolo (pepperoni). There are several other pizzas I can't wait to try!!! Plus all the signature dishes and pastas I've tried are out of this world!! Always a friendly, loving, tasty experience at Tharios Kitchen! A big thanks to Mario & Thais for their hospitality!!!

I have now been eating at Tharios almost every week for 3 years. Mario and Thais are really what makes this restaurant special. They are great people and have really created a wonderful atmosphere paired with exceptional comfort Italian/fusion fair. I have had just about everything in the menu (and a lot of things not one the menu). Usually the special menu you cannot miss on. My go to is the Gorgonzola pasta with the addition of spicy sausage and shrimp. If you are feeling like pizza, the Capricossia is where it at. Really you can probably just ask Thais to make you something and it's going to be good. Finish it off with a chocolate bite or the fresh tiramisu. I have never had a bad meal, or a bad experience at Tharios and I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. If you are in the Carp area this is a must go. #supportlocal

Just had lunch there. Unbelievable $15 lunches (TRUE!) that are huge: sandwiches, salads and pizzas. Great location and charming, art-filled interior. Nice hosts!

Loved the pizza and pasta. It is a little drive but it was worth it. We did take out and they were very helpful.

Throughout our entire meal I was mmmmmmmmming every bite of our chicken piccata, chicken alfredo, pizza and garden salad with burrata. I was extremely pleased with how accomidating the space was for a party of 40. It was spacious, welcoming and offered a variety of scrumptious food and beverages of all ages.

A real find! We were passing through, and stumbled onto this hidden gem. Delicious food, an authentic bohemian vibe, and run by a couple who clearly love food. A wonderful, relaxing experience, definitely worth a detour...or a trip just to enjoy the excellent service and creative food.

Nice enough folks with a lovely little patio, but I was totally underwhelmed by the experience, the food, and the service. We were recommended here by a local winery, and it does feel like most of the other patrons were regulars, which is cool. Except it took us a looooong time for service to kick in, and even longer for us to get our food after we ordered. I couldn't help but notice the elderly couple who arrived after we'd already ordered, sit down, order, get their food, and FINISH EATING (and believe me, they were slooow eaters) before we got any indication someone was actually cooking our food. After I finally flagged down a server, our food was immediately brought out, which makes me think they'd simply forgotten it on the counter. It was clear the shrimp and mussels pasta had languished under a heat lamp as the mussels were crusty and dry, and the tomato sauce had congealed into a turgid paste. Risotto w/shrimp and veggies was delish, but $7 overage for the combo made me raise an eyebrow. You can combine ingredients, the server had told us, without telling us it would be extra. We didn't stick around for dessert since we didn't want to hang around for another hour. It's a shame because there are a lot of places around, and I think Thario's means well, but an effort w/the service would have left a much better taste in my mouth. Won't be back.

Fantastic food in a quaint beachside restaurant. The specials are off the hook - and the service is attentive. This family owned place is a local gem! The mango/blueberry pie dessert special was the perfect finish to a great evening.

This place was amazing! There's a cute patio in the front for outdoor seating as well as seating inside. We sat outside. Super friendly atmosphere, great service, and amazing food I went with 5 people including myself and ordered Fuego Diego, Capricciosa, Shrimp Pesto Salad, Alfredo pasta, and the lasagna! Everything was absolutely delicious. Especially the Lasagna. I would come back to order everything again but especially the lasagna. The pricing for everything seemed really reasonable too. Street parking fills up but also not impossible to find. The owner gave us recommendations for locations to visit during our staycation. He was so kind

I really like Tharios. The owners are nice and welcoming. Our food was hot and delicious. I really liked the Pizza. Carp needs BETTER pizza, not more, just BETTER. They brought us bread and olives to snack on before our food came out. My only concern was the speed of service BUT I know they were busy and short staffed so, I accept. It was also a holiday so, not a big deal. Just wanted to note that. The owner came over and chit chatted with us for a minute at the end of our meal which I always appreciate. We've been seated inside and out before both are nice, especially when the weather is nice.

Lovely restaurant - very private and romantic ambiance. Highly recommend going during the evening and sitting on the patio. I love the garden feel it has, the furniture they chose is super cute. We spent our Valentines here and it was perfect. The food was very delicious, had just enough options to choose from. 10/10 service!

First of all, the food here is truly THAT good. We had a pasta dish and a pizza and honestly wanted to try every dish after eating the first two. Food was VERY good, flavors were bold, everything was fresh. I have no complaints. We also got a chance to meet the owner and he seemed very nice. I just now got done reading some of the reviews that stated the customers were yelled at for exposing shoulders and I honestly can't speak for that incident but was not told to cover up myself while wearing a sleeveless v-neck crop top. Not sure what happened there, but the service was good all around and the food was definitely worth a revisit.

Beautiful dinner out in Carpinteria...enjoyed a lovely evening on the CHARMING patio, soaking up the sun! Saw pics of their Shrimp Pesto salad and just HAD to come try it out for myself...it did not disappoint, absolutely delicious! Super fresh greens and a generous portion of yummy grilled shrimp! Highly recommend!! My partner had their famous lasagna and WOW was this tasty! Real Italian comfort food! The restaurant is a little off the beaten path, but I highly recommend a detour off Hwy 101 in Carpinteria to visit Tharios Kitchen! You won't be disappointed!

Small intimate, fairly reasonable prices and food brought out quickly but once again you face the parking lot, you don't have a back patio, which is much more desirable

Thario's kitchen is a cute restaurant with indoor seating & a cozy outdoor space for dining al fresco. The beet salad we shared we enjoyed, along with the lasagne was truly delicious. It wasn't very busy at 1pm on a Sunday (maybe three other tables were occupied) but it was NOT a restaurant to go to in a hurry, as it took about a half an hour to get our order in, and about an hour to receive our meals...but if you have the time, it's worth it!

I've held off on posting about Thario's for a while as I've selfishly wanted to keep this gem a secret. My wife twisted my arm into finally posting! They have the absolute best Italian food in California. We drive over 45 minutes each week just to come eat at Thario's. Whether it's their unbelievably good Lasagna, delicious chicken Alfredo, or the tasty Al Diavolo pizza, every time we come to Thario's we are impressed. Today we went with the Viaggio Italiano appetizer, Shrimp & Leeks, and Spicy Shrimp & Mussels. The broth for the Shrimp & Leeks is addicting. We were fighting over who gets the last piece of bread to dip in. The Spicy Shrimp & Mussels had the right blend of spice and perfectly cooked pasta. We finished the meal with the chocolate mousse, but ate it so fast we forgot to take a picture. The kids dove into the "heavenly bites" dessert and would have licked the plates if we let them. 100% recommend! Enjoy the relaxing patio minutes away from the beach.
