A pleasant walk from Sauraha. A bit old and tatty but some interesting information and old photos. Worth a visit and only 200 rps for us foreign ones. I also thought the fact they do photo shoots to support local women a great thing. See my photo

The museum is in a regrettably neglected state. There are interesting explanations and information about Tharu culture, but unfortunately these are presented on loose pieces of paper pinned to the wall, which are now yellowed or full of holes and falling apart. There are also some more sturdy information boards. The glass of the display cases is dirty and dusty. Some display cases are empty. Some empty picture frames hang on the wall. Who took the pictures and objects and did not return them? When we arrived in the afternoon, we had the impression that we were probably the first and also the last visitors of the day. There is a lack of regular maintenance. There is a lack of interest and someone to take responsibility for this museum and look after it. A lack of money is no excuse: the information on paper slips could be renewed without incurring significant material costs. The entrance fee for foreign visitors is 200 rupees. How is this money used?

A small and a bit disty museum. Especially of interest are the texts and wall paintings about cultural habits and celebrations, as well as the gruesome stories and photos of former royal hunts in Chitwan. Furthermore, the exhibition on relocation programs after the foundation and later enlargement of the Chitwan National Park is really good.

- Entry of a museum is from a field so you may wonder whether there is something or not - The museum provides good insight about the tharu culture - But the way museum is maintained that's sad. Artifacts are in bad shape - Ticket fee is nominal - There are no queues or I would say hardly people visit this place - Overall nice experience

Well, Tharu Cultural Museum & Research Center is one of the famous cultural museum which is located in the city of Bachhauli. It represents the detailed view of Tharu culture and their lifestyle. It is undeniable that the museum is easily accessible. We can go there by bike, car, taxi, auto, rickshaw, bus, and so on. Peple with wheelchair can easily go there. We can purchase ticket outside and visit the museum with family and friends. The price is very reasonable. The museum is full of information along with pictures and sculptures which provide the detailed overview of the Tharu culture and their lifestyle. I strongly recommend people to visit this place and enjoy the time with family and friends. 🙏

The traditional culture and lifestyle is on a rapid pace of Change. Those people were the most primitive settlers in the Tarai Region of Nepal. The culture of going abroad has greatly contributed to the well being of society. However, it has also contributed to the change of their day to day culture and life style with the modern style buildings and western or non Tharu food. This Museum is keeping the some of the informations on the traditional Tharu Culture.

Beautiful place to vist. It has a lot of ancient stuffs. This place holds a lot of information about the tharu people. Tharu were the dominant resident of terai region. There are a lot of cultural stuffs of these people. Many dummy model to show the cultural dresses of this ethnicity. There are a lot of photographs showing the hunting done by ancient king of Nepal which i don't loved cuz i don't like to see any animal being hunt or curled.

I suggest to visit this place while you are in Sauraha area .. your perception toward Tharu will change.. you will understand cultural and historical part of Tharu's in Nepal . The museum is just 20 min walking distance from Sauraham Rhino Chowk and if you take 3 wheeler it is 5-6 min drive.. Student get 50% discount on Entry fee so do not forget to bring your card ... Value for money to visit and experience
