Our interaction with the staff was great. The location is good but the parking is not great. The hotel was amazing at one time, but it is in need of a major overhaul inside and out. The furniture is old and dated, the tvs were not working while we were there due to a network issue and there were bugs in one of our rooms. The building has settled due to its age, and the floors are severely slanted. It needs a major overhaul...or leveling.

My wife and I - we are from Northern Ireland - first set foot in Littleton in the mid-1990s. A Maine friend wanted to visit the Littleton Coin Company and we were happy to go along for the ride, going on to spend the afternoon looking around the many and varied shops and enjoying lunch at the Topic of the Town.|Some five years later, in 2000, after visiting a relative in hospital in Cornwall, Ontario, we were looking for somewhere to stay the night en route to seacoast Maine. Littleton was the obvious answer - and the hotel we chose was the Thayers Inn. A guided tour of the building, then a mere 157 years old (now 182), included the cupola, atop the fourth floor, which gave us a great view of the town and district.|That was the first of our overnight trips - over the 25 years since then we have stayed at the Thayers Inn each Spring and Fall, save for the two years (2020/2022) when we were unable to enter the USA due to Covid-19. We also had to seek alternative accommodation after the hotel was badly damaged by fire in March 2012 and had to close for several months, but it had reopened after the January 2014 flood (caused by a burst pipe on a bitterly cold night) when we returned that Spring.|I mention this detail because to us the Thayers Inn is more than just a place to spend the night before moving on. We steep ourselves in its history (did I mention we were there the day an old US flag was found in an unexplored attic area? I was able to date it to the mid-1860s and you can see it for yourselves as one of a number of historic items on display in the hotel).|We accept there is no elevator, leisure centre or any of the other facilities to be found in identikit hotels owned by big chains. Yet we know when we watch the Memorial Day parade from the second floor balcony, that speeches have been delivered from that very same balcony (or within the hotel) by many famous people, including Presidents Franklin Pierce, Ulysses S. Grant, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush.|Staff members, who quickly become friends, inevitably move on but we find they are always replaced by equally warm and friendly people who go the extra mile to make our stays (around 40 to date) enjoyable.|Finally, a word about Littleton itself. The town never stands still, but continues to grow and flourish. While stores will close, usually due to retirement, ill health, etc., they will be replaced by new businesses that very quickly attract customers, both locals and visitors. Much has been done along the River District in recent years, ensuring the town is particularly popular at weekends. |Both the hotel and the town are well worth a visit. We know we will be back.|Special thanks to Kat, Aimee, Gretel and Harry!

We stayed here Mothers Day weekend. My husband booked this hotel because I have wanted to stay here for years. When we arrived we checked it which was great. The main area of the hotel was good. We went into our room and were amazed at the size of the suite. However, there was a slight mildew smell, but we figured it's an old building. Nothing will be perfect, so we carried on with our day. Later that night, I was walking from the bathroom to the main bedroom and noticed this huge area of sagging paint on the ceiling located next to an area that had been patched over many times. I had my husband come take a look. There wasn't an active leak at that time, but I went to go talk to the front desk. No one was there, but an emergency number was provided. Since the kids were sleeping and there was no water actively dripping from it, we decided not to call the emergency line and interrupt their night. We were checking out the next day, so we mentioned it then. We mentioned this and how our son who has allergies and asthma seemed to be coughing a bit since our arrival. When we mentioned the lady at the desk said "oh we knew about the stuff that was patched and will be fixing it this summer, but that part is new." We mentioned how it may have been affecting our son a bit, and all she said was "oh I'm sorry, but we hope you come back." We will not be returning ever. I later contacted the hotel because we hope you come back to what we were talking about was, in our opinion, not an appropriate response. I totally understand. we decided to wait until the next morning because we didn't want to inconvenience the staff. However, when we are addressing our concerns and all we get is well, we hope you come back a few times is weird. It's not like we spent $70 for a night and had low expectations or knew there were issues like this. The fact that the staff said oh we know about that and then stated they are waiting until the summer to fix it, is just bizarre to me. A reply email from the staff was received, to which we were told the manager would contact us most likely by Monday 05/12, and that has yet to happen.

I stayed here for a night and overall enjoyed my stay. It is not a modernized experience so there are a couple of quirks, like having to keep the bathroom door shut while taking a shower so that the fire alarm doesn't go off, but the atmosphere is very homey instead of the typical modern hotel look and feel. The hotel itself has many historical photos of famous people who stayed at the hotel or ate at its restaurant. The service was also very friendly and my room was clean. I stayed in a single room, and I thought it would be neat to have an extended stay here. My only criticism is that there is a strong Fabuloso smell, which I tend to associate with bodegas and the projects of NYC from having lived there and smelling Fabuloso in those places.

The location was good to go hiking and to walk around the small town. Staff were nice, make sure to ask exactly where to park because it wasn't clear and we almost left our car in the wrong area for the night. The breakfast available was just prepackaged muffins and cakes. The room itself was mostly clean and the bed was comfortable. However the bathroom floor looked like it had not been even swept in a long time and all of the curtains were dirty. The worst part though was the overwhelming cleaning product smell that seemed to be in the whole building. We were not expecting a luxurious stay as this is a historical inn, however due to the cleanliness and the smell, we would likely stay somewhere else next time even if more expensive.

We just love Thayer's Inn. The hotel is quaint & charming and it's in a great location. The rooms are clean and well-maintained. But the people here are really special. Everyone at the hotel is so kind, friendly and accommodating. Special shout out to Cat and Amy who made us feel truly welcome and a part of the family. We'll keep coming back to Thayer's whenever we're in town.

Google
Built in 1843, this Inn has many stories to tell! The rooms are small but well furnished. The water pressure (and timing to hot water) were less than desired but understandable in this very old building. The beds were comfortable, they have family suites that are connected rooms. We enjoyed sunset on the patio overlooking the river. Public Chargepoint level 2 charger on location. You are a short walk from Shilling Brewpub, coffee shops, Chutters famous candy shop, and more. I will definitely stay here again!

Google
Positive: Gorgeous old style, history, etc. Negative: My room was great except for the shower: it dripped all night long and was impossible to control the temperature. The high water pressure combined with the small holes in the shower head made it feel like needles hitting my skin. Room 13

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our 33rd Anniversary at the Thayer's Inn in January. What a great experience. The Thayer's Inn represents a historical look into the past, as an experience in what I call "historical tourism", that dates back to 1850 in the "era of the grand hotels" and the New Hampshire version of the "grand tour". This is what attracted me to the Inn. Nowhere else can you "experience" a historical attraction as stepping back in time at the Thayer's Inn. It is a look into the past that you cannot find elsewhere. The historical architecture contributes to an experience that is rare, in a community that is well-maintained in a unique historic district. I loved the radiator steam heat, the aged uneven hardwood floors, the sculptured grand stair case, and most importantly the extremely comfortable king size bed. The staff is more than accommodating. Littleton is a favored summer and winter resort, owing to its beautiful location and being of easy access to the principal White Mountain attractions. The coffee is excellent!

Yelp
I loved this hotel or did I love the bed? Yes, that bed was delightful ... it was such a comfortable room. I just loved how this hotel was so historic but equipped with modern conveniences. There were a few negatives though: my husband and I were here one night only as we were on spending 3 days riding a rail trail (the xNHAT) so we did not make our reservation. The woman who owned the cycling company did and when we arrived around 4, our rooms were not ready. Check in is at 3. The hotel explained they were busy the night before and that was why. They said one room could be ready at 4:30. The owner was mad and rightly so. Of course, things happen beyond our control but when they do, you make it up to the customer. As dirty as I was, I was too excited to walk around Littleton to steam about this, so we just dealt with it and got checked in around 5. I know the owner gave them a 3-star review on some booking site. I didn't want to give only 3 stars ... 4 might be just a bit much ... I'd give 3.75 if I could. The other thing was the breakfast. It's supposed to start at 7 but didn't start until 8. I don't drink coffee so I didn't care but my husband was annoyed he couldn't get his coffee and didn't want to make it himself in the room. I didn't care for the offerings ... nothing especially healthy and no fruit at all. The last thing was the noise from the street. I was on the first floor in room 1A and there were voices outside, inside, people going up and down the stairs, and a steady stream of cars and then trucks in the morning. I'm a poor sleeper although I did have my trusty eye mask and ear plugs. I didn't feel the need for the a/c but maybe if I had set it on fan, it could have blocked out the noise. Despite all this, I would stay here again! It was such a charming place and did I mention that bed???

Yelp
The place is nice, building is very nice. I enjoyed my stay for just one night. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Brenna M.

Yelp
Yeesh. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. Had to lug our bags up 3 flights of stairs, our room had cobwebs all over everything and hanging from the ceiling fan. Bed was advertised as a queen but was definitely a full. Mattress was sagging so that your feet were above your head. We were told breakfast included, but it's really just a few packaged pastries and some cereal. If we had not only stopped for 1 night, we would have left.

Thom C.

Yelp
Stayed for one night and won't be back. As I got ready for bed I discovered that my room had no hot water. I left the tap running thinking that it might take a while and called the front desk. They came and checked my room and said they would contact maintenance. In the morning there was still no hot water. Tap water in the NH mountains is Ice cold! At check out the staff apologized but offered no compensation.

Yelp
This place seemed to look so cute and Historical, but don't be fooled like we were. This place was disgusting! We paid to have a 2 bedroom suite to guarantee we didn't have to share a bathroom with others and both bed linens were dirty. One bed had weird little red spots and so we went to sleep on the other bed and there was a disgusting green spot on the sheet. We were told there were no other rooms to accommodate us for having a private bathroom so we took new sheets which we were handed and had to put on ourselves. After stripping the bed we found the blanket was dirty. But worst of all the mattress protector was the most disgusting with what looks likes multiple "mystery stains" and what looked like dried blood. And this is not to say the whole keeping the bathroom doors closed because the steam will set off the fire alarms did not go unnoticed because lets be real its just a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Not to mention the original key to our room didnt work, the air conditioner was super dirty and you cant open the window because the glass was broken. We have been waiting to hear back from the company we booked through for weeks now about getting a response regarding a refund from the Inn, but I'm not holding out any hope. All I hope to gain is to warn others.

Raymond M.

Yelp
I understand this place is historic but I will never stay hear again and don't recommend it.3 flights of steps no elevator. Had to luge 3 heavy suitcases up 3 flights. My son has a broken bone in foot and every time we go out and what ever we buy has to be lugged up three flights and my son is on crutches and has navigate these steps. Floors are uneven and badly buckled on all floors. Floor in our room goes up and down. Poor Wi-Fi at best and now we've been told Wi-Fi is completely out. Can't even talk about the tv's makes me to angry. When it rains you can hear every car that passes this hotel and we are on the 4th floor. What a mistake!!

Yelp
Just got back from spending the most marvelous 3 days/2 nights at this fantastic and unique Inn! From the friendly welcome by the young gentleman at the desk, to our charming kitchenette (2nd floor), and the great innkeeper (didn't get his name) who wowed my 9 year old grandson with a gift and talk about coins since he heard us discussing his love of old coins...oh, I could go on and on and on! Loved the fact it was right on Main Street with plenty of shops and restaurants, and a wonderful river walk out back for our dog. YES, we will be back asap...thank you all at Thayer's, and a Happy New Year to everyone!

Yelp
Ended up here after our Airbnb fell through- what a phenomenal surprise! If you enjoy warm inviting rooms with an abundance of character...you won't be disappointed. It's definitely old but it made our stay that much more enjoyable. Staff was very nice, the art work on the walls is fun to explore, and the beds are as comfortable as any Marriott. We did experience the rooms getting very hot during the middle of the night so I'd suggest cracking a window or making sure the heaters are off /turned down Great location too, walkable to access just about everything you'd need

Christine T.

Yelp
Old school charm! Class! Hospitality! Great food! Super clean rooms! My husband and I just stayed here for the weekend with our group of friends. We were greeted with a smile and the inn was decked out to the max in holiday decor! Wow! It was just like stepping into a "Hallmark" Christmas movie! The food was fabulous (especially the prime rib). I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to step back in time a bit. The town is also filled with great little spots. Thank you, Thayer, and thank you Colleen (an owner) who is very sweet and professional. We will definitely be back for another visit soon!

Kathryn K.

Yelp
Upon arrival, we had to walk up seversl flights of stairs. The old fashioned bathtub was difficult to ste p in or out. (No bars or handles when stepping in or out as tub was very high) Flights of stairs were very steep. This hotel is not recommended in my opinion for people over 60 due to safety issues. We asked to opt out of our stay but had to pay 50% of our total fee for 2 nights.

Yelp
My husband and I own vacation rentals at the beach in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. I would never rent any of our cottages in the state that our room was in at The Thayer Inn! There was water stained and mildewed wallpaper in the bathroom, a joint compound patch above the tub, bugs crawling on the walls and sills, cobwebs on the curtains and rod, water damaged ceiling tiles in the lobby just outside our room door, cracked drywall where shoddy work was done installing the light fixture just to the side of room door and no Wi-Fi even though they advertised it. While we were there, there was a wedding reception going on. I was flabbergasted that they actually set up the banquet tables in the narrow lobby, where guests enter and exit! We had to dodge the wedding guests while they were filling up their plates! I'm sure they thought that was pretty tacky as well. The decor in the room is Goodwill finds or curbside grabs! I highly recommend that you find a charming Inn to stay at, not this place! Not clean and staff rude!!! Oh BTW we paid $219 a night!!!! When we checked out a day early, we were told that this room is requested all the time! Lol Do yourself a favor....just don't book here! Go somewhere else!!!

Yelp
This place cannot be operating to state building code requirements. Completely outdated. Old wiring that is on the outside of the walls. The floors are literally cracked and bowed well beyond normal settling issues. It is passed the charm of an old building and needs some serious structural work. Had to practically climb a mountain to get into the old claw foot tub in the bathroom. Room smelled of smoke, which was deeply imbedded in the old and stained carpeting as well as the old and gaudy wallpaper. Would not recommend to anyone. PS check out the other Yelp listing for this Inn, it has more ratings similar to this one-seems owners tried to start a new Yelp to get away from bad ratings.

David C.

Yelp
My Brother had a medical emergency while staying at the Thayers Inn and called 911. When the first responders arrived, they found both doors locked and called the listed after hours number several times, but no one answered. They ended up breaking into the Inn which delayed their getting to my Brother who died at the Thayers Inn.

Georgia G.

Yelp
From the outside, this place looked so charming and with a little updating it could be wonderful. The area was great as was the parking. The positive is the sweet girl who helped me carry my luggage up 2 flights of stairs and the woman who helped carry them back down the next day. But, the inn/hotel is not clean. The carpet in our room was filthy! We were told not to leave the bathroom door open after our shower because the steam would set off the fire alarm. What!? The "breakfast" was a grab & go style, with pre-packaged food. I wanted to love this place, but that certainly was not the case.

Angel K.

Yelp
WARNING NOT WELCOMING AT ALL OWNER RUDE and confrontational DAVID I attempted to book a wedding anniversary stay for my husband and I today. Upon arrival: The front of the building is antiquated and unkept but holds "history" for being one of the "great hotels" in the Littleton area. There is a Huge lack of parking Because it is situated on main Street, with metered parking, albeit one particular parking space which is directly in front of the building. MARKED: RESERVED FOR GUEST CHECKING IN. There is zero signage where the entry is, AND there are multiple entrances. Which makes it confusing for somebody who has never visited the area/building. I proceeded to enter the building at the wrong entrance, to the left, utilizing the parking space that is marked for check-in directly in front of the building. Upon realizing that I was in the wrong entrance I turned around to leave the building, there was a hallway that is adjacent to the entryway I took that connects to the foyer of the building. I overheard a male voice resonating through the hallway, describing me parking in front of the building, and complaining about me leaving my (sick) child in the vehicle (He's six and there is no New Hampshire state law saying you cannot leave your child in the vehicle) However he was verbally expressing his disgust, which could be audibly heard by myself as well as other patrons within earshot. Feeling appalled by his conversation, I just headed towards my car and decided it's best not to book a reservation, ESPECIALLY if this is how they are going to speak about their guests! I proceeded to keep walking towards my car, while the owner (DAVID) who was OBVIOUSLY individual complaining inside the building because now he was posturing/gesturing outside of the building near my vehicle complaining in the same manner/tone (aggressive). Screaming "ma'am ma'am" at me repeatedly in a vehement tone of voice, He made it clear and present that he was confrontational as opposed to welcoming, judging by his body posture and scowling face, accompanied by verbal diarrhea, I wanted no part of it, so I ignored him as I approached my vehicle to leave this confrontational situation he was about to embark on. He proceeded to barrage me, by saying not to ignore him, (Because I did not respond to him at all) That if I did this again he would have me towed, instead of greeting me saying can I help you ma'am. When he didn't provoke a response out of me, He continued to try to barrage me as I tried to leave. He was hollering at the top of his lungs "shame on you shame on you for leaving your child in the vehicle" I rolled down my window and said I haven't said anything to you, Do you feel like your behavior is acceptable? He continued with his tirade, and displaying very verbal and aggressive behavior posturing towards my vehicle. Saying that I should apologize for parking there. Um...ok The sign says specifically reserved for individuals checking in and making reservations. Be forewarned !! This individual and business owner, is belligerent, confrontational, and completely irrational. I typically do not leave reviews, especially negative ones, I would rate this place zero stars if it gave me the option, the one star is not even deserving of this type of behavior. Realistically this owner is frazzled over a one parking space situation, And should look into folding his hand of cards when it comes to being a business owner. He has no place in the hospitality business. #POORBUISNNESSPRACTICE #STAYAWAY #YOUROWNRISK #betterbuisnessbureau next

Yelp
We arrived on a very cold day and was disappointed to find ourselves in a very cold room. There was a space heater but wasn't enough. I expressed my concern and they were so responsive! They offered another heater or a different room all with a very caring attitude. I was very impressed and will definitely recommend this Inn to friends! thank you Hannah!

Yelp
This is our new favorite hotel and we plan to return many times! The inn is beautiful and brimming with old-fashioned charm- built in 1843! It's very comfortable and clean. We felt very safe from COVID here. And the owner and receptionists' hospitality and friendliness were above and beyond. The town is adorable too, with fun delicious food just a few doors down :)

Yelp
The Thayer Inn has changed hands roughly 2 years ago. The previous reviews do not apply any longer. The hotel is beautiful now. The have made many improvements and it shows The rooms have new mattresses and linens. They are clean and super comfy. We experienced Room 1 and it faced the front of the hotel on to Main Street. It was a very nice room, had a fridge, hairdryer and Tea Tree Garden shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Smells great. All furnishing are in great condition I hotel the way it is now. The stairs are good, went up and

Jenny C.

Yelp
They charge half at the time of booking, another half at check in, somehow I missed that, so when I saw there are two charges on my credit card statement, I dispute that. That was honest mistake. I went to White mountain 5 times this summer, I always pay my bill in full on time. Image my surprise when an angry call I received from Thayer desk, calling me theft of service, threaten me to pay otherwise they will take an action if I don't cancel the dispute. I will gladly call my credit card company to rectify the problem, once I know what is going on. It is Honest mistake, no need to threaten me. I am very surprised they treat customer this way. I will never come back.

Yelp
I heart this place. This inn has all the historic charm you are looking for--none of the rooms are the same...the floors are like a roller coaster ride...I'm pretty sure all the doors are crooked + you just might run into a ghost or two if you're lucky. Stayed here for 2 nights + the rooms were clean + comfy--did have some trouble with the AC unit but other than that the room was lovely. There was a small tv, antique like furniture a decent sized closet + bathroom. The staff was super friendly + helpful and WAIT FOR IT... yeah you can check out any VHS from their library. Epic. They have a continental breakfast that includes your basics cereal, bagel, coffee/tea, juice + fruit. There is a cute porch you can sit on and watch all the bugs run into the neon sign hanging right in front.... If that is your thing. There is also a cupola that you can visit--but watch out it is like climbing into hell... SO HOT but worth the view. There are a couple rooms set up to show what it would look like back in the day--- and although I appreciated the set up the manikins are FREAKY looking + I had nightmares about them all weekend. If you want to stay somewhere completely unique, where there the guests might include those who have passed on + in an inn that oozes history this is your kinda place.

Lynn P.

Yelp
Excellent stay at Thayers - a warm welcome on a cold winter weekend. Travelers should understand, first off, it IS old - established before the Civil War and all the charm of the many decades between them and now are still to be found there. It is an inn ... personable, friendly and unique. A key for your door, stairs to climb, hardwood floors ... that have settled over time, wallpaper. Comfortable bed and good hot shower. All the amenities a traveler requires and right in the heart of the town with a quick walk to shops, restaurants & local breweries If you are looking for a great place to stay and a bit of history to boot, don't pass the Thayer Inn by.

Richard G.

Yelp
I'd liked to have enjoyed this more. Right in the middle of town. Ample parking. And a classic old hotel, with history. But they're odd. Okay, they warn you that you need to close bathroom door while showering, because steam sets off their smoke alarms. (Huh? You can't upgrade those alarms?) Good thing it wasn't an issue -- I had a shower that was lukewarm, at best. No steam. Their heat doesn't work either, so they give you a space heater. Which is okay. Capper for me though was the day I was checking out. (Btw hotel was EMPTY. My car was only one in their lot). I was trying to get in a run so I told the guy at desk I was pressed for time and "might need an extra 5-10 minutes" past their 11:00 checkout. He told me "no, we don't do that." Like, wut? Can you TRY? Anyway, it's only like $100 a night (although they keep 1/2 your money if you cancel...again...customer service ha) so can't complain. I just think they could do a few small things, and could justify higher rates.

Jim Z.

Yelp
I know many people like this inn but my experience was not good. The room was dark and cold, equipped only with a tiny space heater. The WiFi was extremely slow and I couldn't access my work account. No hot water in the shower topped a great stay off. When I complained to the the front desk, the gentlemen became hostile, telling me I was rude to him and refuse to accept a FedEx shipment of some important items a I left at home.

Yelp
Beautiful historic hotel with extremely accommodating staff, clean rooms, and a mini fridge in the room. I stayed in room 5 and the bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, and the hotel itself was charming and very welcoming. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Quite a refreshing alternative to the typical places to stay. No, it's not an all inclusive Marriott but if you like charm and personality, Thayer's Inn is a must of an experience. As they say, "they don't build them like this anymore". It was like a step back into history and the room I had was small but clean and very comfortable. The staff, particularly Arthur, was gracious and helpful. The location is perfect for walking around town. I will make it a point to stay here again whenever I visit. Yeah, the new hotels are fancy and all but paper thin walls and noises from other rooms makes those kind of places big zeroes. No such issues at Thayer's Inn. The walls are solid and charming.

Yelp
Well, I saw the new Harry Potter movie on opening night, and as intrigued as I am of Hogwarts, it doesn't compare to this hotel. Built in 1843, it offers small town charm and a flash back to slow-living, pre-Civil War days in New England. There are three floors complete with uneven door jambs, undulating floors, creaking boards, and a perpensity to bring your mind back to a time where modern technology was the Pony Express. Our room, #10 was awesome. Antiquated wall paper and furniture make the atmosphere really cool. We only paid $90 a night, which for the weekend was very reasonable. The staff was great and overall, it was a stellar experience. Be sure to swim in the river in back of the hotel, check out the covered bridge, and visit all of the great eateries in town.

P V.

Yelp
I loved it, maybe because I appreciate historic buildings. Our room was one of the updated rooms which meant the matress was very comfy, but the room still had the old world charm! The friendly young lady who checked us in talked us into spending $20. more for a larger updated room which was well worth it. She let us look at both rooms before deciding. We ate dinner at the restaurant and I'd say it was good. The next day we climbed up to the cupola, very cool..don't miss it, but only if you love that type of thing! I would love to return someday!

A L.

Yelp
I've stayed here twice in the last couple of years while driving up through Littleton. It's a lovely and historic building with some New England charm. The service varies, depending on who is working at the front desk, but always minimally decent. The bathrooms are tiny, which is likely to be expected in a dated building like that, and the water has low pressure and takes a long time to heat up. It's all part of the experience, but just a heads up to those who are seeking something newer or more modern. A simple breakfast is included--nothing fancy, but great for a quick morning bite and coffee before heading out.

Yelp
Awesome place to stay. When I'm up north visiting my family, I stay at Thayer's for a variety of reasons First of all, the folks who work at Thayer's are possibly the friendliest and most helpful hotel people I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. The location is great. I love staying smack-dab in the center of the "big city" so that I can stroll to my heart's content. Also, the beautiful and melodic Gale River is right in back of the Inn. I like to go for walks after dark (yeah, I'm wild like that) and just about all the streets in Littleton have sidewalks AND streetlights. I kid you not. A true North Country miracle. The Thayer's is a lovely place to stay. Immaculate, pretty, friendly, safe, fun, historical, and well-located. Yes, it's in an old building, and that means that there are some quirky idiosyncrasies that come along with charming old places. Also, I'm assuming that you're not up in northern NH looking for perfect, high-end luxury (and if you are, keep driving like 200 miles in any direction to find that super swanky place). In sum, I heart Thayer's :)

Yelp
This place is old school charming and they score extra points for being pet friendly. We came up for a winter weekend getaway and loved being able to bring our dogs. It's an historic site, so don't expect modern and trendy rooms. This place is old which is part of the draw. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but could use a little TLC. Nothing was broken or didn't work, just needs a little touch up on minor things like paint and wallpaper. The building itself is fun to walk through and there's a lot of displays with local historical items, paintings, and photos. The location is convenient and you can walk to all the local shops and restaurants. The best part is the staff, you won't find a friendlier staff anywhere else. They are truly helpful and very accommodating. Top notch really nice folks.

Yelp
I'm a big traveler and have stayed in hotels all across America in every class level. Thayer's Inn in very charming and the Front Desk person was nice. However, the so-called/self-described "Inn Keeper" is one of the most uptight, hovering, STRESSED OUT people I have ever encountered - and should NOT be managing this place. We booked for Friday/Saturday and thought we'd check out the restaurant/pub downstairs. Food, bleh. Waitress had no idea what to recommend, looked tired and timid (scared of what, the boss perhaps?) and Inn Keeper hovering around the tables. READ THE WEBSITE. If the website doesn't give you a clue about THE RULES of conduct or they will call the police, not much else should alert you. Take note: 10 PM Quiet time - and they're serious about it. 11 AM check-out. More typical of your roadside Motel 6 - and the Inn Keeper comes banging on your door (instead of calling on the phone) to ask you to leave. Otherwise, what other people said about charm and all - true. But def not 4 star. 3 star would be accurate for accommodations and coffee in the morning, but hospitality? Not a chance. Motel manners, not boutique hotel sophistication manners. Honestly, I felt like I had to tip-toe around the place. Pretty - but will NOT return.

Yelp
Quaint, full of charm. Only real complaint I had was the heat- we had a hard time regulating the temperature. Felt silly sleeping with the widows open in early February, but the room was sweltering! Stayed 2 nights and both were wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortably hot. User error, for sure, but just a heads up! No instructions or tips were given and it was fiddly (radiator, old school pipes). Knocked a star off for that, otherwise I'd say a solid 4 star place to stay. Got a groupon for our visit, good prices even without it. Didn't eat here at all.

Yelp
Have been reserving rooms here for years. Since 1988. Have many happy memories here. Love the rather dowdy slightly crazy rooms and the slanting old floors. We love this elderly place. It seems there is new ownership and most likely foreign owners who don't understand their loyal followers. They charged me a cancellation fee even though we gave them a weeks warning. It is pAssed peak leaf peeping season! Not going to consider this hotel again. Rooms are too high in price and the attitude of the new managers is offensive.

Yelp
Old built 1800's. I changed rooms because the first one was veryyy creepy. My skin was crawling with an eeriest feeling that something was in there with me. So bad that I could not stay in that room. They gave a different room on another floor. No weird feelings. Could use some updating but if your not in the creepy room it's ok for a night

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Thayer's. Historic and unique - loved when we entered the room the steam heat greeted us with warm comforting heat. (No dry yucky heat here!) We would recommend Thayer's and give it a 4. It is a classic historic hotel so expect the amenities to reflect that.

Yelp
We had a nice dinner at Thayers on a cold February night. It's located in a historic Inn. The kitchen puts out good food and we enjoyed the beef stew, mussels and burger.

Yelp
This hotel is out-and-out dangerous. I took a vicious tumble because the floors are uneven and there are planks laid crosswise that are impossible to see. I opened cuts on my knee and forehead; if I had fallen a few inches more to the right I would have struck the corner of a heavy glass case. The first-aid kit at the desk was almost empty. The concrete outside the front entrance is very uneven, with height differences of one inch or more. We left a wake-up call which never came. Stay away.

Yelp
This review is based solely on a bad customer service incident with Thayers, not on actually staying there. Made a one night reservation on Expedia two weeks before my stay. 3 days before my arrival day, got a call from Thayers saying there had been a sprinkler burst problem and that they were closed for business and wouldn't be able to honor my reservation. The woman who called (Lori) offered to try to find me accommodations elsewhere nearby. I said that would be great and she promised she'd call me back later that afternoon. Lori never called back. Being high ski season, and me having only two days now to find a last minute reservation, I took matters into my own hands the next day and was able to (with much legwork and difficulty) find a new reservation elsewhere. After doing so, I tried calling Thayers to get my money back. No answer. Tried calling later, no answer. Tried calling their emergency help line, no answer. Finally got a hold of them on the Friday before my Saturday reservation after calling 10+ times. The man I spoke with was not very apologetic, and seemed to have little care for the situation or the ordeal they'd put me through. I know they're a small business and obviously going through a tough time of their own, but they definitely could use to follow through on their promises (Lori, return some calls ok?) and learn to apologize with kindness if something like this happens. I was really looking forward to a stay here, and now if I'm in the area again will go to great lengths to AVOID staying here because of the treatment I received.

Yelp
We chose this Inn to stay for our anniversary, and it was not the best choice. The room was extremely small, The bed was most uncomfortable ;lumpy and sinkholes and there was no controlling the water in the shower it was scalding hot and no matter what you did you could not fix it. The manager checked us out and asked how everything was. When I told her she was totally unconcerned and offered no apology or anything. Won't ever go back even though there was some charm to the atmosphere ...but not enough to return

Yelp
I was in town in July for a wedding (which turned out wonderfully). However our stay here was horrible. We thought this would be a cute romantic choice, instead of the Hampton Inn where most guests stayed, but we regret it. The service was HORRIBLE. We had no hot water (no hot water!) and when we asked the front desk they told us to let the hot water run for awhile because the pipes were old. We let it run for 18 minutes and it still never god hot (this is July not frozen pipes). We told the front desk again, were told they'd "look into it" but we had to go shower at the Hampton Inn (thank got other wedding guests stayed there) in order to shower to not be late. Over the next 36 hours we followed up repeatedly with no resolution, while also wasting gallons of water attempting to get a hot shower. We asked for a partial refund, since in paying for a hotel we expected to receive a bed, roof, and hot shower, but since we prepaid we were told there was nothing the front desk could do. I've called 8+ times and left notes for the manager but have received no reply. It is incredibly frustrating. I can't imagine how they've been in business since Grant's era. Would not recommend at all. Just stay at the Hampton Inn, it was much much nicer and actually had hot water.

Yelp
For the most part the staff working were kind but that is where my positives end. Their free Wifi was scarce at best as I could not connect to it, my room was completely outdated (TV, rug, lounge chair, bathroom, etc.). First night there I woke up due to loud banging in pipes, which carried on for at least thirty minutes at 3am. The shower that morning had extremely low water pressure and water temps oscillated between scolding hot and ice cold. There was no fan in the bathroom while some ceiling tiles were not in place or looked as though they would fall on me in the shower. Privacy was non-existent as I could hear people having conversations in rooms around me and people snoring! At no point did anyone ask me if my stay was going well (to be fair I did not state my issues either). This place his historical charm but watch out for the stairs to their second floor as they are steep with not a lot of board to actually step on. If you want something hopefully cheap and centrally located then this is your place, if you are looking for a well maintained hotel or Inn then I would pass on this place.

Yelp
Room was a comfortable size; had a refrigerator; a/c worked well (it was very warm for October); bathroom was a nice size and clean. It was a little weird walking - the floor was uneven throughout, but it was ok after you got used to it. The carpet could use a good cleaning, but everything else was very clean and nice. Heather at the front desk was very nice and helpful. The hotel is close to everything in town; not too far from activities and restaurants in area. Great balconies at end of the hall - can sit and watch the town - it was fun.

Yelp
I spent less than 5 minutes here and was very disappointed with the attitude of the woman at the front desk. I went in and asked if it was handicapped accessible, without missing a beat, she replied, "Absolutely not, we don't have an elevator." I asked if there were rooms on the ground floor, she said yes but they cannot be guaranteed, in case their "water pipes broke and there was a flood, a person who can't walk might not be able to get upstairs." I asked again if the ground floor rooms could be booked and was told, " If we guarantee something, something bad will happen." (Negative attitude much?) Apparently their pipes are not in good shape? What kind of an answer is that? The front door is on the sidewalk, no stairs, yet she insisted the front door was not wide enough for a wheelchair. The double doors were absolutely wide enough. She never asked about my situation etc.. she simply seemed to have a bias against the handicapped. I will bring my relative to another hotel in the area who I expect would be far more accomodating that this woman.. who needs to be schooled in how to deal with the public.

Yelp
Wasn't planning on staying in Littleton, we were just passing through when we decided to stay at the Thayer Inn. Right from check in through check out our experience was excellent. Staff was very friendly, we definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I love Thayers and have stayed there 3 times now since have family in Littleton NH. The deal cannot be beat. $80 to $90 per night. The building is beautiful, interesting and lots of character including historic photos and news articles on the walls. The floors slant a bit which just adds to the authenticity. There's old TVs in most (not all, some have flat screens) with VCR, and you can get VCR movies from the lobby area! Just don't expect modern functioning, i.e., understand it's an old building so there might be quirks with the plumbing (toilet was slow, hot water takes a while to get hot); the heat from pipes in the ceiling in the winter is okay, but you will need to plug in the portable extra space heater too. My one and only complaint is that they need to have coffee. They used to have the small makers in the room and no more! That's a mistake, & if you're not going to have in the rooms, then at least offer coffee in the sitting area across from check-in desk (they used to do that too, no more!) And they don't offer continental breakfast any more; I can understand that not being cost effective, but I shouldn't need to go to the Cozy Cat Café in the hotel to get my coffee; although I guess if we had free coffee they wouldn't make the money at that in-house cafe (and it's good coffee at under $2). There is Littleton Diner just half block down; and also Dunkin Donuts across from Littleton Diner. The Main Street is amazing array of little shops where you can find one of a kind items and small town atmosphere.

Yelp
Only went to eat. I was dissapointed. Have a "beer rich" area and their draught selection was too limited. It looks as tough it would be the nicest place to eat but they just do what everyone does, same stuff you can get at home. Nothing that really sets them apart. Ask the Waitress what was good, she just looked at us with nothing to offer. Neat place in a neat NE town, that's it.

Yelp
Excellent service. Cool historic hotel. Keyword historic. But also features a fantastic restaurant down below with top flight menu, and if Shelly is working everything will be just fine
