The 5 Spot Midtown - Neighborhood Kitchen and Bar

This was my first visit. I was out running errands and needed to eat. I googled "shrimp and grits near me" and the 5 Spot popped up. I love this part of town because it reminds me of my childhood for some reason. The restaurant has a nice vibe and aesthetic. The hosts were pleasant, and the place was full for a Saturday brunch. I decided to eat at the bar since I was by myself, then decided to take a window high seat. After looking at the menu, I ditched the shrimp and grits and decided on the pancakes. They were huge, warm and soft- felt like heaven in my mouth. I worked on business while I waited and the bartender checked on me regularly while I waited. Everything was great. I went back the following Friday for lunch with my granddaughter and got the Salmon and potatoes (no pics).

We were fairly underwhelmed at our visit recently. We were sat at a table full of spiders and realized it after finding them on our napkins and clothing after our meal. The Hot Honey Chicken Sammi had not any spice to it and was soggy. The Philly was nothing special. My drinks were also served half full and weren't worth the $7 rail drink price. While the atmosphere was comparable to a hotel restaurant, quiet and could have been more engaging.

Stopped by today for lunch. Receptionist might not have been having a good day. He wasn’t very receptive. Very nice atmosphere great serving staff. They are on the ball. Tables are a little too close for my comfort, I don’t want to hear what the people at the next table are talking about. Nice wine selection as well. We had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer very good. We also had Philly cheesesteak and cheesy grits, also, fish and chips. Talking as a Philadelphia native, the cheesesteak sandwich was well stacked but very light on cheese. you don’t shred cheddar on grits and call it cheesy grits, that just ain’t right. The fried fish though very tasty was on the greasy side. We were pleased with the flavor of everything we had. We are also looking forward to going back again.

This is my favorite spot to attend. Service was immaculate! Food incredible, buttermilk biscuits out of this world. Madison was a fantastic & timely server. Going here is a must, I left completely satisfied.

The atmosphere is GREAT! The bartender was generous. Our server, Jenna K, was so nice and her service was amazing! We had cake from Wicked...Delish! The cheesecake was heavenly. Highly recommend for a quiet date night, or chill spot for dinner.

Everything was wonderful!! Terry greeted us and our waitress was so sweet. I had the Shrimp and Grits, best I ever had and my husband had the chicken fried chicken with collards and mashed potatoes w/ pepper gravy! Excellent, hope to back soon when visiting!

Great food! Modern and casual vibe. The kind of place where you can get a great meal and feel comfortable wearing shorts and slides. Take the fried green tomatoes for example: simple dish prepared to perfection

I went here for the first time. One of a few open places past 6 of 8pm. The service was amazing! My drink was never empty and I didn't have to ask. The collard green dip is a must have! Food was fast and cooked right, my cost was more than worth it. I'd go back more than once. Look no further, just pull up and enjoy. I recommend the cheese & Mac also the greens (just like big mama's)
