Very chilled out Sunday vibes and enjoying the best vegan tacos I've ever eaten. Previous carnist I've not seen anything quite like this. Absolutely superb. The most flavoursome food with the PERFECT amount of spice to make this a great meal.

Brilliant little pub in the student quarter of Glasgow serving craft beers and vegan Mexican street food. The tacos were excellent (try the enoki filling), but the smashed potatoes stole the show. Good selection of beers on draught; I liked the Helles and the Red Nitro.

Visited here last week and was disappointed in the food. The portion sizes were very small and everything I ordered was cold. The menu has changed from the times I used to visit here before and now they serve mostly Mexican themed street food. The nachos were overpriced for what it was and tacos were tiny. I miss the classic menu and the burgers they used to have. I understand they probably want to simplify and quicken the menu but it’s not a place I’d go back to for food. I feel like the 78 was a nice vegetarian food spot a few years back but it’s lost the atmosphere and it’s a watered down version of what it used to be. I’d recommend this place is better for just for drinks.

Definitely recommend this place for both meat eaters and vegans. The menu is 100% vegan with loads of options - from pork to chicken to fish. I was also really impressed with the vegan cheese here. It wasn’t plasticky at all and tasted like regular cheese. We had the loaded nachos which are super tasty and good value for money. The padron peppers with salsa verde are also defo worth getting. Taco wise, we had the al pastor (vegan pork) which was really good and pretty spicy. The banana blossom (aka fish taco) was alright but I think I’d try something else next time. Loads of fun beers here too and a casual cosy vibe inside.

As a bonafide carnivore I was sceptical of an entirely vegan menu but I was blown away by the quality in flavour I experienced. Cauliflower wings were incredible. The texture was hearty and rich and the ranch sauce had tang and zing. Loaded fries were huge and had all the salt and spice you could hope for. I don’t think I’m converted but it’s now a great option if I want to be healthier or impress my vegan friends and family. A really homely vibe and one to try if you are looking for a different culinary experience from the norm

The place itself is nice and I think suitable just for drinks. About the food, we ordered a bunch of different things and they were too much spicy, and we couldn't eat half of the order. We were told the dishes weren't spicy, but nope. At least have some non-spicy options on the menu.

The most delicious tacos and ch*cken wings I’ve ever had! The place is very cosy and nicely decorated, the staff is friendly and I was very exited that everything they serve is vegan. My boyfriend who normally eats meat was also blown away by the taste. If I’m ever in Glasgow again I’m definitely coming back here!

We dropped by here on a Tuesday for a friend's birthday. There's no table service nor an app, so we all had to join the long queue at the bar to order everything (-1 star). The food menu was Mexican vegetarian so ordered a few items of each. The food arrived at some point, but no cutlery or napkins so we ended up having to ask for those at the bar as well (-1 star). The food itself was thoroughly unimpressive - I've made far better tacos at home (-1 star). A couple of us arrived a little later, including the birthday boy, and they were told they ran out of food and they can't order anything anymore. What kind of place runs out of food?! It was a little before 20:00 so definitely not too late. We ended up sharing some of the food we got with them (-1 star). They did have a great selection of drinks and well-priced beers so +1 star for that. Overall a horrible dining experience, so I'd never eat here again, though might consider it for drinks.

Yelp
We are happy vegans to have found The 78 during our short stay in Glasgow. The menus posted earlier were old. It now is Antojitos at The 78 with vegan Mexican street food. We had the Oaxacan Ch*kn Tacos (tastes better than the bird version!), Quesa Birria Tacos and freshly made guacamole. You order at the bar from their Friendly staff. Laid back, funky and food is delicious.

Yelp
Loud, very friendly pub. Just arrived in Glasgow for the first time and was greeted like family.

Yelp
Another veggie restaurant that I haven't been in before - I really must try harder! It was Sunday lunchtime and we'd just managed to grab a table before things got really busy. I thought they seemed a little under-staffed given how busy it was. The music is loud and funky retro, and the decor is rather err... eclectic? I liked the bare stone walls and the selection of comfy sofas to chill out on. In quieter periods this would be a cool place just to hang out in. The table we got was in need of a clean and was so sticky I was afraid to actually touch it or put my phone on it, and when we eventually attracted the attention of the server I had to request that she wiped it down. I appreciate that the place was busy but you shouldn't have to request that - it should be automatic when they come over with the menus. However I don't want to criticise the staff as they were cheery and friendly despite obviously being rushed off their feet. As we were both pretty starving, we both went for the all-day veggie breakfast option, which was, I have to say, the most unusual veggie breakfast I've had. Two tattie scones - check. Two veggie sausages - check. Two onion bhajis - excuse me? Also two slices of fried aubergine, which turned out to be much tastier than I thought they would (least favourite vegetable!), three minuscule slices of fried bread, and... a BOWL of baked beans? Seriously! Handy for dunking the tattie scones in, but it did seem a little OTT for breakfast. I guess they were out of the scrambled tofu maybe? Anyway, the rest of it was a real taste sensation as veggie breakfasts go, but I did feel that the baked beans let it down drastically. Overall, we were pretty impressed with the 78 and would love to return and try something else on their menu in the future.

Yelp
The 78 is one of my favourite vegan places in Glasgow. We popped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon for such much needed comfort food. It's always cosy in here, especially when they have their lovely fire on. Ordered a house red as I looked through the menu. It was a really nice, smooth red which went down well. They have a great range of beers and ciders too. Opted for the burger (always do), then added some vegan cheese and a portion of garlic mayo on the side. Their burger is pretty epic. It comes with a paprika slaw, gherkins, onions, salad and delicious house chips. The garlic mayo is pretty amazing too. You can add all sorts of things to your burger, with the potential of making it an absolute monster. They have an amazing night on Thursdays called 'The Dutchy Pot' where they serve 3 courses (which change weekly) for around £9 (starter £2 / main £5 / sweet £2) from 5pm and have Argonaut Sounds playing reggae and dance hall music from 8pm onwards. Even if you're not vegan or veggie, get down to this wee pub. It's a Finnieston gem!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time in this spot. It has that earthy shabby chic style to it but a lot brighter then say the likes of Lucky 7. The open fire gives it a lovely feel and a nice peaty smell to the air. Staff are friendly and uber chilled. Soundtrack is trip hop to hip hop to Scandinavian experimental dance. Nice selection of beers on tap and good special offers. Great mix of folks and a lot of single people just reading their paper over a coffee or pint. I got the hummus and it was yum, with a hint of sweetness to it. The poached pears in ice-cream was also delicious. Yet another great Glaswegian spot! I just want to mimic the concept and bring it back home!

Yelp
The 78 is my current favourite vegan place in Glasgow, I eat there all the time, probably because I live really close by and it's so handy. As well as generally being amazing. The food is the best vegan food in Glasgow I reckon. Although it's owned by the same people who own Mono and Stereo, The 78 probably has a more upmarket and adventurous menu. It's proper meals here rather than small plates and sandwiches. At the moment, they are doing daily pot which is usually some sort of hearty stew or curry, and it's only a fiver which has to be the biggest bargain ever. They also do a different pie daily. The employees are lovely, really friendly and will chat away to you, and the service is normally pretty quick. It's so cosy too when they have the coal fire lit. For a while, they did seem to be frying everything, but nowadays the menu is much more on the right side of healthy. I normally get the daily pot, as you just can't beat it for heartiness and a good dose of veg. We went there a few days ago, and here's what we had. I wasn't in the mood for a big dish so I ordered two starters. The roasted pepper and tomato soup was wonderful, nice and thick and really tasty. Then I had hummous, and a white bean dip, with flatbread, salad and olives. The dips are excellent. Boyfy had his usual veggie burger and chips - to me it tastes like a proper meat burger, so if that's what you like, then excellent - he certainly loves it - he gets one almost every time we go. The chips that come with it just couldn't be any better - proper chips with skins on, not greasy at all, and nice and fluffy inside. The side salads are always really good too - a side salad that is actually worth eating. By the time I'd scoffed that lot, I'd decided I was hungry after all, so I ordered the chocolate, cherry and brandy torte. This is so amazingly good. It's a massive wedge of really thick, ganache style chocolate, on a biscuit base, which is possibly made with some sort of ginger biscuit. It is super filling, but so good that I had to finish it. Then I just rolled home.

Yelp
The 78 has the best contemporary jazz I have found in town. So, if you like jazz this is the place to be on Sunday. The down side is, you can definitely tell this is a college joint on that night as well...Not that there is anything wrong with that, just not what I was hoping for when it comes to the best jazz in town. I don't recommend you order a cocktail here, the bartender I had was not exactly knowledgable. Oh and they have absolutely no London Dry gin, at least that was what I was told. The gin and soda I ended up with was weak sauce with a chunk of unsqueezed lime thrown in. The up-side is The 78 has an excellent beer selection, so stick to the beer! I cannot comment on the food because I did not have anything. This place would not be my 'go-to' anyway since I am a carnivore, so I will leave that for the vegetarians to decide. In summary go here for good live music. Some regulars were telling me about other great music throughout the week. Drink the beer and you should be good to go!

Yelp
Mostly I come here for the cheap ale. Sam Smith's Yorkshire ale is usually on draft and, being a Yorkshire lass, I can't resist a taste of home. I'm also a big fan of the live jazz nights they run on Sundays - the atsmosphere is amazing and the place is always packed so if you'd like to be able to get a table make sure you turn up nice and early. It's a quirkly pub with mis-matched, sometimes slightly eldery furniture. A couple of squishy armchairs and sofas are my favourite spots to sit. Watch out in winter though, you don't want to be sitting too close to the doors because they're draughty even when they're closed and they get opened and closed a lot as people come and go. The food is vegetarian and often vegan. Now, I'm no vegetarian but I think you'd be hard pushed to find a superior veggie burger to the one on offer here. I think if they had a meat alternative I'd still order the veggie burger - it's filling and flavourful and comes with a good portion of chips. Also try their brownies if you've got any space left.

Yelp
Popped into the 78 for a lazy Sunday lunch and was blown away by the atmosphere and the food. A vegetarian and vegan restaurant, the menu is packed with plant based treats. I found it hard to choose between the many options, there was also a vegan Big Mac on special calling my name, but eventually settled on the quesadilla as I was craving a little spice. My lunch date went for the coconut chilli nachos. My quesadilla was stuffed full of refried beans, vegan cheese and a deliciously sweet spicy salsa sauce and topped with sour 'cream' more salsa, pico de gallo and jalapeños. The nachos were covered in beany chilli and topped with sour cream and salsa. We both struggled to finish but were determined to finish every last bite. The venue is gorgeous, very chilled vibe with wooden furniture, comfy couches and laid back tunes providing the backdrop for a relaxing meal. Prices were very reasonable as well, with most meals coming in around 7 pounds and the portion sizes certainly represent value for money. I would highly recommend the 78 for anyone looking for a veggie treat!

Yelp
This was to be another venue for out Yelp Brunch Club. I have been really enjoying the meet ups and the people so was looking forward to hitting this Glasgow joint. Well, that's if I found the place, yup, I made the mistake and thought it was the 78 on St Vincent Street in town. Doh! I didn't double check, my bad?! This 78 is open unlike the one in town and also based in the Finnieston area of the West End. So once Ian M and I eventually made it we checked out their menu, with slightly embarrassed red faces no less. Hehe!! I hadn't realised this place was completely vegan, I thought they did a good selection a vegan/veggie dishes so this was an eye opener for this wee carnivore muncher. I do like to have meat free days so was happy to try and especially off their brunch/breakfast menu. I opted for the Weekend Breakfast with a pot of tea, as it sounded mighty tasty. I had decided to stick with tea unlike the jakies (other Yelpers) starting on a beer for breakfast. OK, so the breakfast, it had vegan sausages, baked beans, scrambled tofu, tattie scones and toast. I asked to have it with a tomato and mushrooms, not my favourite vegetable. Well it was an interesting taste and the tofu was weird and a bit green. I don't mind tofu but I think the texture/scramble and colour was just too weird for me. The sausages were nice but the toast was brick hard. It was massive slices of crusty bread toasted, it was impossible for me to eat so unfortunately I had to abandon. I got a real surprise moment with my tea as it was really sweet and I don't like sweet tea, I had double check if someone had snuck in sugar. I was then reminded we're in a vegan restaurant so no milk, soya only. Ahhhh! So overall it was an interesting experience, and that's not mentioning the banter. I do believe plane lap belt dancing was a topic. Hehe!! I don't know if I'd go back for the food, I really missed my meat and milk. I think if you're vegan and veggie you will love it. I'm glad I got to try and I think that no doubt this place would be good for some evening drinks. Thanks again to Briony for organising and I look forward to trying the next Bruch Club venue. Mmm brunch!

Yelp
I am so full of food that my belly hurts and I need to lie on the couch for a while, but in a warm and cosy Christmas Day kind of way and it's all thanks to an evening of glorious food at The 78. Tonight was their weekly Dutchy Pot event, where there's a set menu of cheap and comforting food, full of goodness and entirely vegan. On the menu tonight was kale, spinach and coconut soup (£2) which was absolutely delicious, followed by Jamaican bean stew with quinoa (£5), with sides of chunky chips or flatbread (£2) and some gorgeous ginger and chocolate cake for dessert (£2). The staff were relaxed and friendly and added to the pleasant experience where the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with dim lighting, old records and comfy armchairs that wouldn't look out of place in your own living room.

Yelp
I'm tempted to give 4 stars because being a vegan in a vegan restaurant giving 5 stars seems a bit obvious, but if there's been any downfall for me in any of Glasgow's vegan places it's usually either been the service, or the thump thump vibration of music from downstairs coming through the floor, and neither of them applied today, so I'm sticking with 5. I'm sure if I'd ordered a special from the menu it would have been a no-brainer, but I didn't - I went for something I've ordered often, the tempeh, refried beans, and cheese quesadillas with chips, because three of my favourite foods are chips, cheese, and tempeh. The chips were alright, not my favourite chips in Glasgow, but nice enough and their mayo is amazing. Also, they don't charge extra for the mayo, and most places do, so I see this as a huge plus point. Quesadillas were good, but they put a salsa on top which had a bit of a bitter edge I didn't really like. The food arrived quickly, plates were cleared quickly after we'd finished eating, and our order was taken at the table quickly (although we had already ordered at the bar when we'd ordered our drinks). As for the toilets, well it's quite a studenty place so I suppose expectations shouldn't really be high, but since I'm writing a review and it's my job to be picky, and I like a nice bathroom - one toilet was out of order, one had the roll sitting to the side rather than in the holder, and one had loads of toilet paper sitting in it that it looked blocked. They seem to paint over the graffiti, but I quite liked that actually, sometimes you'd find some crackers as you sat reading on the toilet. However, good hand drier!

Yelp
As a meat eater, I've never understood why some folk automatically ignore vegan food without even trying it. Good food is good food regardless of what's in it, and I can definitely do without meat every now and again. And on the strength of this visit everyone should give this place a go, for great food that is seriously good value. For a start, it's a really nice place to sit for a pint. Full of nice unmatched chairs and tables, great music (Pavement!), and a kind of old pub feel that doesn't feel manufactured it definitely is a place you could spend a few hours in - the beers on tap and bottle are also pretty great. I would say that some of the doors in don't shut properly, so you may want to avoid sitting in front of them on a cold windy day. The food! For the price you're paying (£11-odd each for four folk sharing a starter, a main and dessert each and a couple of drinks) was seriously good. The nachos starter were fantastic, and had dark chocolate in them which really added to the flavour. I had the falafel burger, which tasted as good as any meat burger I've had in Glasgow (this is a special, so it may not be on all the time) and the chilli fries were brilliant - proper potato wedge style chips that were cooked perfectly. Dessert was a chocolate and orange tort. This was great, but could have been a wee bit smaller, at the end I was eating big claggy bits of tort. I had always fancied coming here, as I really like its sister bars. This could be the pick of the bunch though, especially as far as the food goes. Go and enjoy!

Yelp
Yummy vegan food! We have been wanting to come here for a while and now that were here we re glad we finally made it! Planing out next trip back! So IMPORTANT info on Thursday nights they have this set menu like thing which at first we were bummed about bc we wanted to try the vegan burgers. But alas we weren't able. The Dutchy Pot thur night was great though!!! We loved it! Great selection of beers and drinks! My husband and I aren't vegan but were pollo-pescatarian s and I'm lactose intolerant (I know we limit our lives! Haha) so it was great being able to eat the cheese and sour cream tonight and not have to worry especially in this country of cream and bacon this Resturant is my new haven ! Also did I mention it's cheap ! Great prices!

Yelp
Delicious food, nice atmosphere. Helpful staff- my toddler spent much time trying to encourage her into interaction ("peek-a-boo" "hello" wave wave) but she resisted and maintained her distance, which was neither good or bad, just how it was. She provided some paper for drawing (My small person was threatening to draw on the menu). Lots of interesting posters. Some entertaining toilet graffiti. Disabled and baby changing facilities :)

Yelp
A few Yelpers have been meeting for brunch and this past weekend it was the turn of The 78 to do the hosting. Important note: 'The 78' is in the Kelvingrove area, '78' was a restaurant on St. Vincent Street (now something else). Not that anyone made that mistake... (no, it wasn't me!) I've seen good reviews of this place and so was keen to see what was on the menu. I tend not to select vegan eateries because I enjoy being a carnivore (no snobbery or anything, I'd just usually want something meat based) so having the brunch here helped push me to try it out. Inside you are welcomed by a somewhat ramshackle place that looks lived in without being weary, with some random decorations here and there. It's the kind of look a lot of places aim for but get wrong, The 78 felt very inviting from the minute I stepped inside. The bar is reasonably well stocked with some good ales, and as the sun was past the yardarm I plumped for a pint of Seven Giraffes (I'm blaming Graeme H for that) and started to survey the menu. Many of us had a similar question, what was in The 78 Full Weekend Breakfast?? Our friendly waitress happily confirmed that it was toast, mushrooms, beans, vegan sausages, scrambled tofu, potato scones and ... did she say toast already? I was sold and pretty soon our dishes arrived. A hearty looking plate full was put in front of me and I have to admit it was delicious. The sausages were tasty, the scrambled tofu was delicious and I'd soon polished off the lot! Only downsides were that some of the items had obviously been sitting under a heat lamps for a little while, the toast (toasted baguette slices) was a little on the hard side (I managed mine, others couldn't even break the the bread with their teeth). The staff were friendly, the food tasty and the company was as interesting and weird as ever (I mean that in a loving way... the conversation about seat belt lap dances... well I'll say no more). I'd happily eat here again, even though I fear I wouldn't choose it myself.

Yelp
The 78 is a charming and characterful restaurant bar service home comfort style vegan foods. The food is really quite excellent, with a good selection, plenty different styles to choose from, and the house reds are pretty great too. The only thing lacking is character, which unfortunately comes somewhat from the layout and the lighting. Dimming the lights I could see this bar getting a cosy intimacy to match it's aesthetic, but with the lights up and it's 'one long room' layout I couldn't get a mental image of sitting in the church hall out my mind.

Yelp
Yum! My first forays into vegan food were sampled at Mono. Although both restaurants are owned by the same people, they truly outdid themselves when they opened the 78. It's how I imagine old pubs to be, perhaps for sophisticated old men with pocket watches, pipes, and monocles. Then again, my imagination does run away with me. The 78 has become a staple dinner-out for my family, as my sister is vegan and introduced us to the place. I like to try something different every time I visit, which is convenient as the menu varies and everything I have tried on it has been delicious. My favourites are the baked sweet potato with mushroom paté, and a potato curry (which I remember being tasty but very hot and its ingredients now escape me!). Falafel is always a good choice, too. They also have some micro-brews on tap and a small but good selection of wines and bottled soft drinks. I hear it can get pretty busy, but when it's quiet it's lovely and laid-back, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I like the laid back vibe of The 78, and every time I go for a visit, I'm lucky enough to attend a coohl event like Mungo Hi-fi's Record Store Day sale or the Dutch Pot dinner special. But every time I go, there's always at least one staff member that has the grumpiest expression. This is always the case with restaurants/pubs like these. When the partner and I went over last Thursday for some healthy vegan food, we were pleasantly surprised with the Dutch Pot special dinner night thinggy! The food on offer was a starter of beetroot dip/hummus with bread, a main of beetroot and quinoa fritters with salad and some sides, like chips and such. So ok, we ordered that! 2 mains, a starter and a side (totally up to 7pounds each, which was a bargain). The food we ate was awesome! So fresh and delicious! Sometimes you forget how tasty vegetables can be, when cooked and prepared right. They have 2 thumbs up for food, that's for sure! Music playing that night was awesome too (as always). They were playing reggae, assuming it was a Mungo Hi-fi set list. Relaxing it was! The only thing I really disliked was the one tiny chic behind the bar that had a chronic grumpy face. She was not happy when we paid for our food, nor was she happy when she served us our food. Even when she said "enjoy your meal", the tone of it felt more like "ugh just enjoy your damn meal", ya know what I mean? C'mon, doesn't take THAT much effort to smile! Do you want people to go to the 78 or do you want to scare them off? If the staff were friendlier, I'd give it a 4 star but oh well. Grumpiness gets a 3!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to The 78 many times for beers and if I was reviewing it on a bar alone it would have been 5 stars however on this occasion I would love to go with 3.5 not quiet a 4 and not as bad as 3. Food choices this place has plenty of options for vegetarian. A nice selection of burgers. To start I had a shared mix platter of olives hummus and pitta bread! This is a must if you are eating here. Mains were a little disappointing I went for the 78 burger it was massive in size and extremely dry. It came with a side of chunky chips and salad which was nice. I washed it all down with a Williams brothers birds an bees. They have a real great selection of beers. The bar has a real cosy atmosphere mix of furniture tables and chairs. The staff here are really friendly and always ready to help and give help on food choices.

Yelp
I was taking some of my roller derby friends on a vegan/vegetarian food crawl, and The 78 was our second stop. We'd originally planned to walk here from Babu Bombay Street Kitchen but with the weather chucking it down it was more sensible to drive. There's a whole street of parking out the front and if you're lucky, you'll get a spot right outside the door. I'd never bee to The 78 before. I'd seen it lots of times, and talked about going there but I just always seem to miss it when I'm in Finnieston. Outside it looks kind of plain but inside it has a really nice vibe - it's casual, and homely but I don't mean crappy. There are lots of tables as well as a few couches and we happily sat here for hours on Saturday afternoon ordering beers as well as food at random times. We never felt rushed or like they wanted us to order more or leave which was nice. The food was reasonably priced - bowl of chips £2.50 with lots of chips and sauces and everything is vegan. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, and yet I found the food to be delicious and tasty so I was super pleased. While I didn't sample any of the main meals, those I saw looked really good and everyone seemed happy with what they were served up. The staff were friendly and patient when faced with 6 people unable to decide what to order for food. Drinks were good prices and they had a nice selection or beer and wines. A lovely place that I'll be visiting a lot more in the future.

Yelp
I visited this cosy bar/restaurant for a bite and something to drink with work colleagues. We decided on this place as both of my friends had been before and enjoyed it. A place serving solely vegan food would never be my top choice - in fact I'd never eaten a vegan meal before visiting here but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a tasty 'harissa' burger from the specials board. It was a slightly spicy veggie patty with a mexican flavour accompanied by humous and a tangy 'jam'. The burger came with hand cut jacket chips and a lovely little side salad that was garnished with pulses. Upon serving our drinks (a bottle of white wine to share) our waitress also brought us a bottle of iced water, upon serving our burgers she brought condiments. It was a refreshing change to have these offered rather than having to ask. The atmosphere was lovely, welcomed by a roaring open fire after coming in from a cold and rainy Glasgow. This place is so relaxed, attracting a wide range of different people - they even let your dog join you! This place is definitely worth a visit, vegan or not. You're sure to find something tasty on the menu or simply enjoy a bevvy or two in front of an open fire on a cold winters evening. Better yet, the meal and drinks were very reasonably priced so you won't break the bank! For our burger meal, bottle of wine and a tip we paid £13pp.

Yelp
Good value for your money. All vegan. Kind of schizo music-playlist, not too great coffee, but laidback atmosphere and good food!

Yelp
This place is stellar! Came in on a rainy day and felt so cozy. They have a full bar, so we quickly warmed up with a round of Hendricks and tonics. Ordered some delicious tomato soup, and feasted on vegan burgers and quesadillas. 100% recommend to anyone even non-vegan/vegetarians.

Yelp
Food was very tasty, the portion was maybe a little bit much. Fair prices, nice interior and a good cider selection.

Yelp
Delicious vegan food! For me, it was with a little bit to much garlic, but I really hate it, so maybe I'm a bit sensible. The churros were just the best! Really recommendable!

Yelp
Ok, so I feel like the asshole in the room. I know the previous review has been a yellow badge of shame in a red star praise parade. I will justify my actions, in that I seriously wanted this place to improve. Like giving an A student a lower grade to get them to sort out their shortcomings. So, we have always loved this place. Great beers and food the Vegan can eat, how could you not love it? So the beer was good and has simply got better since I was here last. Now they have Williams Lager on tap all of the time. Wow. The interior is great and comfortable. Comfort is sometimes rare in establishments these days. How comfortable is the 78. Think old favourite jumper. You getting it? You getting it yet? It is exceptionally comfortable and nice. Serving as a vegan food place as well as a local to the student and professional community that resides off Argyle. So, now to the food. We have had great vegan food in here.and sometimes not so great. But the one thing that annoyed me (the really oily onion rings) are not worth leaving that review up. So, go enjoy the platters, burgers and soups. It is made fresh and well. No complaints. So the dollie is back in the pram, apologies provided. Get your butt in here. Let it become your local favourite jumper.

Yelp
I had never come across this bar before even though I only live five minutes up the road. I came in during a weekend not for food but just a few social drinks with friends I did see the cook though and boy was he scary looking " had more hair on his head than any woman I know " and was wearing no hat. We just sat at the counter and ordered our drinks, I could smell the bad odour from the drip trays that where on the counter, a cross between cheeses whotsits and pee. The bar looks as if it fresh out of the saw movie set, with the staff looking more like punters than staff, you would have never been able to identify who was who in the end. The toilets could do withs little freshening up. The drinks where pretty cheap but the wine was expensive, this bar is busy at weekends with students but empty's real quick with everyone heading to the clubs after. Upon arriving it did not take long to be served.

Yelp
As a lazy student with a stomach complaint who shares a kitchen with 12 lazier students, I often find myself dondering round the corner to this little place especially on their 25% discount Tuesdays. It's a wonderful place to stare into space as some well-picked tunes - occassionally jazz, occassionally blues, occassionally reggae and, on one glorious visit, De La Soul's discography - play quietly. Until the food arrives and one temporarily forgets that they're in a public place and starts inhaling their platter. A particular favourite dish of mine are the quesadillas, which are part of The 78's lunch menu. Crispy at the edges, chewy, cheesy, refried-beany goodness in the middle. Mmm. Served with homemade chips (an extra) and salad, this never fails to fill my gut and keep it full until late evening. Bonus point - nothing upsets my stomach as there are no processed foods! As for customer service, I recall one occassion in which my starter never arrived. This was due to a mix-up on the waitress' behalf but also on the sheer greed and arrogance of another customer who refused to give back which was rightfully mine. To compensate, I was refunded, my order given to me with my money and a pot of tea on the house. I left the place extremely happy but so full that I couldn't eat for two days. My only concern is that the menu is extremely limited, although there are daily specials which I am yet to try. The 78 is a wonderful place to go...as long as you can tune out the sound of self-righteous hipsters nattering on about the ethics of yoghurt.

Yelp
The 78 has been one of my most frequently visited bars throughout four years at Uni, and has played host to catch ups, celebrations, predrinks and hungover breakfasts. It used to be a lot cheaper, but is still pretty decent with pints ranging from 3-4 quid. The food is tasty vegan grub, not usually crazy amazing, but consistently good. Their veggie breakfast is unreal though! And their specials are usually quite exciting. They have great deals on (like 25% off for students on Tuesdays, or the Dutchy Pot nights, where food starts at £2!) The staff are variable, sometimes super friendly, sometimes a bit overworked, but never rude. It's a great spot to hang out and even get some work done during the day, as they have free wifi and comfy seats, plus during the week it's not too busy. My favorite times at the 78 are always when it's packed to the brim with people and there's a live reggae or jazz band on. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, as you virtually have to climb over people to get to their toilets (which are not the snazziest or most functional, by the way) or bar, and it gets pretty noisy so isn't the best for conversation. That said, the drunken, dancing, shouted conversations I've had at the 78 are some of the best I can remember, and I can attest that it's the perfect place to kick off your evening if you're heading down to the Berkely Suite for Walk N' Skank on a Thursday night! Overall, the 78 is studenty, cheapish, chilled out, and lots of fun.

Yelp
Aye, still a fan but now I have the added experience of having a wee drinky in the place. Plus points go to the Williams Bros at £2.50 a pint (good shizz) and the laid back vibe. Further plus points awarded for the chance to play an evening long game of 'spot the hipster'... in the end we had to call it a draw... just too many of 'em! Other than that, this is a cracking bar in Finnieston.

Yelp
Being an audiophile, I was first attracted to The 78 because of it's name. When I discovered it was vegan, i became more curious. And now when I have to go to Glasgow, I'm often mapping the place I need to go partly to see if it's close to The 78. I really like this place. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, but am sympathetic to both of these lifestyles of eating. I often feel that carnivores use meat (and their accompanying sauces) as a crutch and go-to in their dining. Taking it off the menu provides for creative opportunities and that's what The 78 seizes upon. On my most recent visit I opted for the Classic 78 burger with Spicy cajun chips. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger. And I'm sucker for anything cajun and for spicy chips, so this was a no-brainer and I wasn't disappointed. They also have a good selection of drinks. The only issue is that the service can be a bit slow sometimes or you may even be waiting a little while for someone to serve you at the bar. Also, It's worth noting that they have a Dutchy Pot event on Thursday evenings when the regular menu is not served.

Yelp
I'm from the Las Vegas, and I came here a few months ago with my sister who's a vegan. I had the vegan burger, and it was THE BEST vegan burger I ever had, it didn't try to taste like a beef Patty but had it's own unique delicious flavor. Couldn't remember what my sister had cause my burger was so delicious, but she did rage about the vegan cheesecake and how her years as a vegan this was THE BEST she's ever had, and she had to travel all the way here to find it lol. I hoping if one of the managers could contact me I would like to request the recipe for the cheesecake if possible for my sister's birthday. I promise I won't open my own vegan cheesecake shop haha.

Yelp
Not sure what else to add to all these positive reviews but I too am a huge fan of this bohemian haunt. Beer selection is fantastic, be it a local brew, organic ale or continental pilsners. Food is vegan, but this shouldn't put you off as the chefs know exactly what they are doing and its amazing what the can whip up using just veggies and grains. Furthermore, deals are a plenty in this arty haven with the best night being a Thursday for Dub and Grub. Quality tunes and a set 3 course meal for a mere £9 pounds, now that's what I call a deal!

Yelp
The 78 is one of my fave bars in the Finnieston area. Airy with (limited) outdoor seating in summer, and super-cozy in winter with a real fire, it's great year-round. The venue is vegan, with a fairly extensive food menu and wide choice of drinks, on tap and in bottle. On my last visit, we enjoyed some snacky stuff (hummus, olives and pitta bread) and a good belly-full of organic beer and cider. The olives were really plump and 'meaty' (am I allowed to say this in a review for a vegan restaurant?) and hummus moreish. Live music is on most evenings, with jazz and an open mic night the last twice I visited. The intimacy of the venue for music is brilliant. Every time I've visited the music has been fantastic - and I'm not as fan of jazz! Popular with local students, vegetarian diners, and musos, the 78 isn't too hipsterish thankfully!

Yelp
The 78 is a lovely little place which offers a few options - a quiet drink, some nice food, good music - it's got a few things down, and down well! The menu changes regularly, and occasionally it is pot luck (excuse the pun!) what's on offer - but I've never had a bad meal here. I particularly enjoy the feeling of the food, which echoes the decor and feel of the place as a whole - sorta ramshackle, cobbled together, but genuine and warm. This is a place I've visited time and time again - so obviously there's something drawing me back. An excellent, quirky, well-run little place that does something different and does it well.

Yelp
After attending an event at the secc we were looking for cold drinks and good grub and my vegan friend suggested here. 78 is owned apparently in the same group that own flying duck and a few other places. I know flying duck offer gluten free so i was hoping 78 do too but sadly not. The only option was the falafal burger without the bun and of course chips. Luckily i wasnt too hungry so a side of chips was fine for me. It was really busy for a saturday but we were attended too quickly and didnt have a long wait for food. Its got a really cool quirky studenty vibe however the ladies toilets were a disgrace. 3 stars for this visit .... disgusting toilets and no gf grub!

Yelp
Great little vegan bar in the West End of Glasgow. We went for Dub n' Grub night where they had a reggae DJ. Not we were expected to hear in our first night in Scotland, but was a great start to a chill night. College aged and 20 or 30 something's mainly there. Get there early for a table on nights with music.

Yelp
I visited The 78 with my brother last week and before we walked in he mentioned to me that this place reminded him a lot of our Aunt and Uncle's house. Presuming that few of you know what my Aunt and Uncle's house looks like, let me elaborate. When I was a lot younger I used to consider this side of the family as 'the hippies'. I think this idea of mine had a lot to do with the fact that they were vegetarian, something that seemed very foreign to me even at that age! Also, their house, with its wood burning fire, exposed floorboards and one off pieces of art reminded me of something I'd seen in Absolutely Fabulous when they had a flashback to the 70s. Very homely, very welcoming and completely unique. Until I walked into The 78 that was.... The 78's wood burning fireplace permeates the rooms with a rich welcoming smell and beautifully lights up the far corner. I felt instantly comfortable and at home. Bouncing across the mismatched floorboards I was intrigued to realise that this bar was entirely vegan. The barmaid was lovely and patient, especially as I took a good few minutes deciding what to drink. The blonde beer and pear cider didn't disappoint- both delicious and reasonably priced- the perfect start to a great night out! We didn't try out the menu here but I'm told that when it comes to Onion Rings this place doesn't mess around. Hopefully I'll be able to report back on this soon but in the mean time I would still recommend you pay a visit here. Comfortable, cool and relaxed- a great local bar!

Yelp
The 78 is another successful spin-off by the creators of Mono, but is by no means a reincarnation of that establishment. It carries its own unique whimsy, from its old beat up arm chairs to its long tavern tables great for big groups. The moss green, 50s style of decor would probably be referred to as "shabby chic" by some hipsters, but I always feel like that phrase is vacantly employed and there's more to the 78 than that. They do some great European beers, but I tend to go for the chilled cans of Red Stripe since they're only 2 pounds. They have a delicious, extensive vegan menu available till about nine, and after then the bands roll in. When there's a band in here, which there often is, I feel like I'm in some beautiful underground bar in Canada or New York. I don't know why, but it carries that indie underground buzz. I've heard some great jazz and brass bands in here, but the vibe in general reminds me of places in Montreal. Seems like the kind of bar Broken Social Scene or Modest Mouse would gig in before they were famous. There's something dreamy-pensive about this place. It's very homely and I would be more than comfortable kicking my feet back in one of their recliners alone and simply watching a band I didn't know play for a couple of hours. It's intimate as a gig venue and would be a great place to see some folk or floaty music. It's very cosy and genuinely alternative, very charming indeed!

Yelp
LOVED this place. I stayed in the halls right next to this place during my semester abroad. The ex-vegetarian in me was overjoyed at finding this place. I've had the pies, the falafel, and a few desserts, as well as trying out the different stuff they had on tap. The decor was awesome. Comfy couches, rickety chairs, soft lighting...just my kind of place. I'm not going to comment on the price, because soon after arriving in the UK, I gave up on trying to convert everything to CAD. It was too depressing. On a side note, the takeaway containers are all recycled, which I thought was smart & cute touch.

Yelp
Dog friendly vegan cafe bar. Went with several friends on a wet Monday night. They have a regular menu but also have several special options. They didnt have a salad on that evening but given the horrible weather outside that was possibly a wise decision. Have been going to the 78 for years now and the staff are usually friendly and helpful with nice food. There's sometimes the odd problem like there was on Monday when we werent charged properly. All in all its a good venue for casual food or to sit and get warm when the fire is on!

Yelp
I really like the 78 as a bar, but for food I am far from convinced... The bar part first, good location, friendly staff, cool beers and a nice relaxed vibe. I would not hesitate to go for a few pints here. Throw in the fact they allow the mutt to join me, this means as a choice for a drinking spot I am always happy to go to the 78. I am afraid though on the food front it was a bit of a let down. I grew up eating loads of vegetarian and vegan food as my mum was a veggie and so were two of my older sisters. So the fact the 78 has a vegan menu did not phase me at all. The issue was the choices I made just seemed a bit bland. The 78 burger lacked seasoning or sauce. The chips that went with it were more about quantity than quality. For starters the olives were nice but the Houmous was pretty tasteless in my opinion. Vegan food can taste awesome if done right, but the dishes I chose were well wide of the mark on the flavour front. 4 stars as a bar, 2 stars for food. 3 stars overall.

Yelp
The 78 is a really good place to pass a few hours of an evening. As well as a fully stocked bar, you'll also find a great selection of vegan food (well, you know, as great as vegan food can get...) and a wide variety of entertainment. The last time I went to The 78 was on jazz night. Luckily the people we were meeting had had the foresight to get there early - otherwise there was no way we would have got a table, or even a chair for that matter. The 78 is generally pretty packed, especially on nights where they have special events on. You also need to start heading to the bar about half an hour before you actually want a drink, because it will take you about that long to get one. The jazz was very entertaining, but before you get all excited about an Ella Fitzgerald-esque night out - the Jazz night mainly consisted of cellos. To really appreciate it, I think you'd have to be a pretty hardcore jazz fan - otherwise, like me, you'll probably find yourself wishing for a rousing chorus of 'Fever'. It was also VERY loud, to the extent where you couldn't really talk to the people around you. Despite this, The 78 is beautifully laid out and decorated - and has a great feel to it.

Yelp
I want to give this place 5 stars, but the service was unbelievably slow and rude. I was in Glasgow for 2 days, and went here twice. The first time was a Saturday, and my friends and I all ordered the brunch. The highlights were the tofu scramble and house made vegan sausages, nicely complimented by the other components of the breakfast. The tattie scones were perfect. Everything was very well seasoned. My bloody mary was tasty, and my friends selected a few interesting beers. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive (for 4 people), but it was so delicious that I wasn't bothered. We liked the place so much that we went back the next day, at the same time, and were told that they had run out of brunch. No apologies, no offers for substitutes-we were simply told that we 'should have called in advance'. Okay. One of my friends was so offended that she left at this point and decided not to eat here. The three of us that remained ordered the veggie burger, quesadilla, and chipotle wrap. We shared the three entrees and were impressed by everything. Great balance of flavors, nice texture to everything. Really hearty and delicious. But again, the food took almost 1 hour to arrive. We complained and received free desserts, which our waitress was NOT excited about. All of them were excellent and served with Swedish Glace ice cream, my personal favorite. I love the food here, but they really need to work on their customer service.

Yelp
Ok so I've been here a few times now and never been less than mega impressed! As a part-time vegan I love the classic burger (topped with humous instead of bacon and cheese!) and 'real' chips washed down with a decent pint. We usually go on a Friday night and the place is always buzzing with life, just a great ambience for 'date night'. Friendly staff too :-) Out of the 3 outlets - 78, Stereo and Mono, this is my favourite by far. Big up the 78! 5th star to be awarded once I've sampled other items from the menu!!

Yelp
Mouth Orgasm! I've eaten so many times at the 78 and I am always amazed by the quality, the good taste and originality of the food but today the Festive Menu was ORGASMIC! Try the Vegan Roast!!!! Other wise palce is great too - smiley service, best selection of beers etc Vive la bonne bouffe!!!

Yelp
My sister and I popped in on Friday night for a bite to eat and a quick drink. I've been a bit of a 78 regular since it opened. It's perfect as it's just round the corner and everything is vegan, so no need to ask a thousand questions prior to ordering! I've always found the food to be excellent and the atmosphere to be as warm and welcoming as the log fire and comfy armchairs. Clearly I'm sold on the place so I'll try to write this review from my sister's perspective (non-vegan visiting from England). Friday night dining was packed and we were lucky to get a table but the service was still good. Efficient but laid back. I ordered the special, a simple Thai vegetable curry with rice and flat-bread. After several tastes my sister confirmed that is was delicious and well cooked, vegetables al-dente and potatoes soft and fluffy. Her choice was the nachos with coconut chilli. She commended the portion size, the robust flavour of the chilli and the extra texture added by the coconut making it not 'just a big bowl of beans'. We both accompanied our meals with a Williams beer and topped off with a malt of the month and the whole thing still came in under £30. Pretty good going if you ask me!

Yelp
My fellow yelper Evelyn has painted an excellent image that does the 78 real justice, and I feel it is not necessary to try and out do her! However I can expand on the drinks and the food having sampled both. I'm not too accustomed to vegan or vegetarian menus as I almost always opt for the carnivorous option when eating out so I went for the veggie burger. The burger was very good, filling and wholesome as you would expect from a burger but the flavour was much more vibrant, yet the burger just melted in my mouth. Portions are a good size too and the menu is very creative. Of my vegan friends many bang on about the 78 and it as for this reason I decided to check it out. It isn't just the food that is great they have a very good selection of lagers beers and ciders at the bar. Of this selection I had a pint or two of Birra Morreti as I hadn't seen on tap before in Glasgow. Besides offerning an excellent vegan menu and a well stocked bar the 78 also promotes live music performances and in some cases the nights are supported with food deals. There support of Meat free Mondays allows two courses for £8 or 3 for £10, Thursday is Dub n Grub night where the DJs of Mungo's Hi-Fi are on the decks playing Reggae, Dancehall and Dub whilst you tuck in to a cheaper menu of food (£4 for a main £2 for starter/desert). They also have an acoustic night on Wednesdays, a DJ on Fridays and Live Jazz on Sundays.
