Such a chill and groovy little establishment! The reception doubles as a bar/brunch space and a comfortable little retro space to just space out, and you're lucky if Nala (the adorable hotel malamute) is hanging around. The bedroom is comfortable and the shared bathroom are kept in great condition. Jimmy is most especially chill, giving a rundown of the space and was really accommodating. Always had time to chat and flashed a smile, and was also quite responsive via mobile in any sort of situation. Though there was some noise disturbances at street level which went through from 6pm through to about 10pm, it did catch the hotel by surprise, but to no fault to them. Alabama Hotel offered a hot beverage/chocolate to offset this which was pleasant. A most excellent location in the heart of Hobart, would definitely come back again next time I'm in Tassie!

I loved my stay here. It is such a unique, artsy, hip hotel. So different than the typical boring hotel designed by reptilian corporate overlords. Friendly and the easiest check in aI have ever had anywhere! Cool bar, great vibes overall. The place to stay in Hobart!

A gorgeous, fun, quirky hotel with a fabulous little bar serving excellent coffee and drinks. The rooms are small, and there are shared bathrooms, but this is a comfortable place with a lot of character and lovely friendly staff. Kind of like a hostel for grownups. The staff were very responsive when I found my room a little chilly, and even put a hot lemon and honey outside of my door when I later came down with a sniffle. Super comfortable beds and the most gorgeous Malamute dog was helping *work* reception.

Recently my partner and I stayed here for a few nights during a work trip. I've always loved this venue/hotel, being from Tasmania originally and was happy to be back. It's funky, quirky, quiet and laid back. Reception/lobby is open from 9am - 9pm, with a late check-in option available. We extended our stay by a few nights, which they had no problems with whatsoever. Thanks Alabama, we'll definitely be staying again :) P.s, the coffee is great!! A real treat to wake up to :)

This is the best-maintained hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff are incredibly lovely and kind. The shared bathrooms were always spotless. There’s also a cozy and fancy bar right next to the reception, where guests get a 10% discount. Plus, the gorgeous friendly dog Nala is a delightful bonus. If you’re a solo traveller, this is a much better choice than a generic boring hotel. This place made my days in Hobart even more wonderful. I’ll be definitely coming back here for the next visit.

The room is clean and well-organized, with all the basic amenities provided. The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is clean with hot water available, and the air conditioning works well. There are no issues with noise, making it a great choice for those who spend most of their time outside and need a convenient place to rest and shower. The location is good and easily accessible, offering great value for the price.

Yelp
Funky pub style hotel. While shared bathrooms per floor (no en suite rooms), bathrooms were clean, bright and inviting. Showers were large with plenty of hot water. Rooms are basic, with mini fridge, hanging space and bed. Heaps of accessible power points. Fun 'public space' with bar and coffee machine. Amazingly central location, with pubs, restaurants and retail all close by. Salamanca a ten minute stroll, close to skybus stop 5. Def not a luxury hotel, but loved my stay!

Yelp
I chose Alabama Hotel for my last accommodation in Tasmania. It's a quirky hotel with some vintage decoration. Alabama Hotel is located so close to Woolworths, where I bought my snack supplies from. I parked my car at the 24 hr parking place which was about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. As I walked up the stairs at the hotel, I could see some hanging flamingos and a cafe. The reception desk was located inside the cafe area. Alamaba Hotel also has a balcony with some tables and chairs to hang out at. I was given a handmade soap and a towel, enough amenities for my two days stay. They also prepare free water at the corridor that I could bring to my room. The room was really cozy with a heater, fan, and a working desk. One of the most important things for me is the number of power points that a hotel room has. I comfortably charged my power bank, camera and phone at the same time! I was incredibly grateful for electricity and free Wi-Fi that they provided. The shared bathroom was spotless and most of the time I didn't have to share it with other people. Mind you, it was an off peak season when I was there. Alabama Hotel is an excellent place for staycation around Hobart area and provided a comfortable stay for a budget hotel. It's one of people's favorite places to stay when there's music or food festival in Tasmania. Just make sure to book in advance to secure your spot.

Yelp
I first discovered the Alabama Hotel many moons ago in an issue of Frankie Magazine (for those not in the know, Frankie is a painfully hip monthly mag that covers cool people, architecture, fashion, general hipster-dom.) And since that time I have wanted nothing more to spend a night there. The Alabama is a gorgeous Art-deco style building in Salamanca, filled with cane furniture, indoor plants, bright pink flamingos and intricate murals on the bedroom walls. Our room was very simple. Just a bed, a heater and a clothes rack with a few hangers. Our view was of the building next to us, but we didn't really need a view so weren't bothered. The bathrooms are shared and there is a male bathroom and a female bathroom. Do not expect much from these bathrooms, ok? I realised after staying at this hotel that I am *far* too precious for shared bathrooms. They were clean and slick but it was too much of a mental hurdle for me. If you're on a budget or are looking for a hostel that is just a little bit fancy, Alabama is for you.

Yelp
Whimsical hotel with a great lounge, friendly staff, and good internet. Very quiet for one of these boutique hotels, with a hilarious room guide.

Yelp
Cool Art Deco boutique hotel with a great little bar and coffee shop. Friendly staff and great location. Just opened a year ago. It's filled with interesting art and people. Just stopped in for a drink so I can't review the rooms.

Yelp
I hugely enjoyed my stay at the Alabama Hotel and can't recommend it highly enough. At first I was 'wait shared bathrooms really?' but a look over Hobart hotels shows that most hotels here have shared bathrooms at this price point and the general loveliness of the Alabama is much greater than other hotels of this price (and even many more expensive ones!) I truly found the shared bathrooms not to be an issue which was great. As a lone female traveller I was very wary but it didn't bother me at all when I got there. Just like being in a nice gym, they had male and female bathrooms, the one I used was right across the corridor from my room which was easy and it had two showers and a toilet, I never saw anyone else there. The Alabama Hotel and its hosts are just so lovely and helpful. The hotel itself is really pretty and quirky, with a great common area that you actually want to be in. The rooms are smaller due to the lack of ensuite but perfectly acceptable with good space for clothes etc and hangers yay! It's such a great central location as well. The hosts could not be more helpful to me for all my many, many questions and gave me tonnes of advice, local knowledge and good chat. Also the wifi is free and the password was handed over the minute I arrived, without me even having to ask. Storing my luggage was no problem at all, even though I arrived very early and left on my last day very late. Late night access is easy with a passcode so it's safe, secure and easy to get in late at night. Others reviews who say it feels like being at home are absolutely right, it was such a great experience for me, so much nicer than inhuman hotel chains. I slept really well and really enjoyed my stay. And it's really nicely decorated! Don't let the shared bathrooms put you off! It's more than worth the money and I've recommended it to everyone I know as well.

Yelp
Lovely little budget boutique hotel that my friend and I stumbled upon. Pieces of quirky art found within the rooms and throughout the hotel. The Alabama was clean, had comfy beds, and the staff were the sweetest! It's simplicity without the boring.

Yelp
The Alabama Hotel is a hidden oasis in the centre of the CBD. The fitout is funky and fresh, the staff are friendly and warm, and there's a great selection of beers. Seating is either in the stylish art deco lounge or the leafy balcony - both so nice as to make it hard to choose. Fantastic watering hole!
