The Alest Hotel

"Why book? Polanco’s newest boutique offers a taste of British style in Mexico City. Set the scene: Bright red chairs around jet-black coffee tables are the perfect perch for posh international travelers to enjoy their morning coffee during a stay at The Alest, Polanco’s newest boutique hotel. Beyond a sleek British-inspired façade, guests are greeted by a contemporary lobby and bar, replete with a fireplace, where a white marble staircase leads to 19 sophisticated guest rooms and suites. The backstory: Inspired by a fictitious tale of a roving British family of adventurers, The Alest brings a distinct sense of British hospitality to Polanco, Mexico City’s posh, international borough. The rooms: Of the 19 contemporary guest rooms, nine offer an exclusive view of the leafy Eugenio Sue street and all feature a curated collection of Mexican art and Carrara marble-clad bathrooms. The three junior suites are located on the third floor and have their own large terrace on the upper part of the building, overlooking the treetops. Food and drink: The property’s restaurant, 45, is helmed by chef Fernando Martínez Zavala, who specializes in contemporary Mexican cuisine with a flair for international presentations. Adjacent to the restaurant is the ground-floor bar, which features a signature cocktail crafted by the mixologists at Limantour, often regarded as one of the best bars in Mexico City. The spa: The property has no on-site spa but can arrange in-room massages for guests. The neighborhood/area: The bed and breakfast is only a few blocks from Polanquito, an area with myriad cafes and shops. It’s also conveniently located near the leafy Lincoln Park, a delightful area to pass an afternoon or attend a cultural event at the open-air Angela Peralta theater. The service: A fleet of complimentary bikes with rattan baskets are available for guests who seek to explore the boutique shops and cafes of Polanco. The property also has butler-style services, as well as quirky amenities like a cache of remote-controlled model boats and yachts for guests to take to Lincoln Park and join the locals in an afternoon of pond racing. Anything left to mention? Don’t miss the property’s ground-floor shop, Casa Ku, which features traditional Mexican products, from ceramics and handwoven placemats to jewelry and dresses." - Michaela Trimble

This is just the most perfect hotel, down to every detail. From the check in to turn down service, everything is top notch. We had a lovely room with two queen beds, which was specious. The linens and towels are top quality. There is even a Dyson hair dryer in the all-marble bathroom. The lobby area is gorgeous and there is a room for “quiet”, which is a nice touch. We don’t eat here so I can’t speak to the food. The hotel is in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco and there are many great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Make sure to walk through the lovely park as well. Definitely a five-star+ experience all around.

We just got back from a wonderful first time stay at The Alest! I am so happy we stayed here. Everything from the food, the rooms, the ambiance, and the cleanliness were perfection. But the best part of our stay, was definitely the staff. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Capitan Armando and Maribel were amazing. Always greeted us with a smile and just made us feel like a part of The Alest “family.” Also, bartender Marco made an awesome dirty martini! Highly recommend any of his cocktails! Thank you to everyone there! We will of course be returning, no doubt, and I will also be recommending this beautiful boutique hotel to everyone I know!

The hotel is spectacular, the design is incredible, and the best part is the service and attention to detail from the staff. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed with a house drink and a questionnaire to help make your stay as perfect as possible. It was my husband’s birthday, and they surprised him with a complimentary cake and balloons. We felt right at home during our stay and can’t wait to come back. Five stars! Thank you to Apollo, Carla, Luis, Sandra, and our dear waiter Roberto Carlos!

Our room was large and comfortable, as were the beds. All staff members, from front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant staff, were welcoming and friendly.|The Alest has all the things you look for in a boutique hotel: good decor, helpful service, and charming touches like a generous, complimentary drink and snack selection in your room which is replenished every day. ||We also recommend the hotel restaurant: during our stay we had both a great supper and lunch there.||The location is excellent, with shopping and major parks nearby, and dozens of good restaurants and cafes within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. We liked that Polanco overall isn't mainly a touristic area, especially if you go to establishments off of Avenida Presidente Masaryk.||After a day out, it always felt good to come back to the Alest and relax in our clean, comfortable room. The hotel is a calm, inviting refuge in the city.

An impeccable place with a very English style, very thoughtful. You feel at home, with comfort and elegance. Every detail is well thought out. We would definitely return and we appreciate the excellent attention of Maribel and Armando in the restaurant. The menu has excellent breakfast and food options.

An absolutely elegant and gorgeous hotel. The staff is so thoughtful. We were especially impressed with the delicious drinks and food at the bar and friendly server and bartender, Johnny and JP. We recommend ordering the ribeye taco and Pineapple Express cocktail. Perfecto!

Breakfast was great! We had coffee, yogurt, house bread and eggs. Juan Manuel provided great service. Restaurant has WiFi and provided a great space to do a little work. A lot of yummy food options and superior service! Highly recommend visiting if staying at the hotel or near Polanco.

The Alest Hotel is a hidden gem in Polanco! Services were superb by Maribel, Lulu, Memo and Edwin. Restaurant inside hotel was magnificent and food delicious. Carla gave us a tour of room and explained the amenities. House driver ensured we were picked up and taken to airport on time. Room was exquisite and shops walking distance. We will definitely return!
