What can say about the Algonquin that hasnt been said already..it's home away from home. The first greetings of the kilted doorman, to the roaring cozy fireplaces at both ends of the gathering room, warmth and inviting. Food service and quality is impeccable. Hotel staff was prompt and courteous. Only reason it's short of a five star is the Resort Fee and Tourism charge per day..I fail to see the reasoning behind this since I'm local, and Resort title falls short on what I consider a resort.

The Algonquin is a true New Brunswick gem that blends rich history with modern comfort. First opening in 1889, the “Castle-by-the-Sea” has been beautifully restored and still carries its old-world charm while offering all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury resort. The setting is spectacular, with sweeping views of Passamaquoddy Bay and manicured grounds that make it a perfect place to relax. It’s only a short walk or shuttle ride to downtown St. Andrews, where you’ll find shops, galleries, and local attractions — but the resort has so much to offer that you don’t need to leave to enjoy yourself. Dining is a highlight here. I especially enjoyed Braxton’s Restaurant & Bar and the Right Whale Pub, both of which feature fresh local ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere. The food and drink options strike a great balance between casual and refined, and there’s something to suit every mood. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Incredibly friendly and attentive, they made the stay feel special from start to finish. Whether it was at the front desk, in the restaurants, or simply passing by in the halls, the warmth of the team really added to the experience. Between the history, the views, the restaurants, and the staff, the Algonquin truly delivers a memorable stay. It’s a must-visit when in St. Andrews.

The Algonquin Resort in St Andrews by the Sea is nothing short of spectacular! From the moment you arrive, the stunning architecture and breathtaking coastal views set the stage for an unforgettable experience. The staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that every need is met with a smile. The accommodations are luxurious and comfortable, providing the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The dining options are exceptional, with a menu featuring fresh, local ingredients that truly elevate the culinary experience. Whether you’re enjoying a relaxing spa day or taking a stroll along the picturesque grounds, The Algonquin Resort truly has it all. It’s a five-star destination that effortlessly combines elegance, comfort, and stunning scenery. Highly recommended!

This was one of the tougher reviews having stayed at some very good hotels within the last month that included a Fairmont in Whistler and two very good waterfront hotels in San Diego. The Algonauin is indeed a special family friendly hotel with a long history. My room itself is the source of this mixed review. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was tastefully decorated. However, I purposely booked a room with two queens and it looked nothing like the pictures online. My room was on the 4th floor and had very small windows that never received any natural light, it felt like being on an inside cabin of a cruise ship. All the large bay windows and rooms used in the online pictures are on the 3rd floor. Apparently I was stuck as I was told there were no other two queen rooms available. I would stay at this hotel again of I was in the area, but only if I could get a room on the 3rd floor that looked like the on-line pictures. As for the staff, most were very polite but some frustration with the check-in girl whose English was mediocre. No recognition of Marriott status, no mention of status options that were available without asking. In short, the attention to detail overall is not quite at the Fairmont level for this property , but close to a 4.5 out of 5 for the experience and perhaps 3.5 -4 for the overall service..

Google
Old style resort that has been impeccably maintained over the years. Feels like we are back in the Victorian era but with all the modern touches. They have e-bikes available and a shuttle to get you down to the downtown area. Restaurant was very good and the grounds were beautiful. Keep in mind that this is a resort so there is a daily resort fee, which was $25 when we were here in early October.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at the newly renovated Algonquin Resort. The gentleman at the front desk was incredibly helpful. Our room was modern and comfortable, and the personal terrace added a special touch to the experience. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The resort blends charm with modern amenities, and the staff made us feel right at home. A truly memorable getaway!

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour package. This is a very grand looking hotel, set in beautiful grounds, an easy walk into St Andrews. Our room was pretty small with only one small window and the lighting was quite dim. Nice bathroom with a good shower. We had breakfast included. It was a buffet style but it was waitress service for coffee, juice and toast which was pretty slow. It would have been easier and quicker to do it ourselves. We were out for the whole day, returning at 4.30 and our room had not been serviced. They knocked on the door at 5 pm to do it then.

Great hotel, lovely room and great pillows and bed. Very comfortable stay, breakfast available at extra cost and nice restaurants on site. |A short drive down into Saint Andrews New Brunswick. Excellent whale watching near by. |Good base for a couple of nights, lovely outside and inside pools. |A hotel that lets you dress up or be casual and still fit in. |Staff we very helpful

Yelp
We only stayed for one night, but we really enjoyed staying at this resort. Every staff member that I interacted with was so sweet. The room was beautiful and comfortable. There is so many things to do and the hotel has a shuttle that will drop you in town if you want to walk around.

Yelp
I would give it a 5 since the service room and food is fantastic but for some reason the people running this place haven't put air conditioners in the rooms yet! It's been miserably hot for several weeks in this area and no AC means little or no sleep. I realize that up until a decade ago there was no need for AC in this area but that time is long past. $350 a night and you can't put an AC unit in the window? Sad!

Blaine A.

Yelp
Over priced for what you get! Room 245 with balcony, the balcony door didn't lock, the screen was ripped, I stepped out on the deck and thought I was going to go through the floor, it's rotted, full of bird crap. 480.00 dollar room! We had two drinks at the pool 56 dollars after a five dollar tip and 15 dollar fee?? I get that it's old and historical but not worth the money you pay! check in a 4 pm ? oh and for almost 500 dollars, that does not include breakfast.

Yelp
I had dinner at the restaurant in the Algonquin. The Chicken Supreme I was told, was no longer a "bone in" piece of meat , which was fine- my server (who was delightful.."Adrian" ) said it was a "chicken breast". Well the piece of meat that arrived was neither bone in nor chicken breast but compressed chicken. You can tell because it tastes raw almost- the texture is off. Anyway- the meal including a glass of wine was $65. I let my server know, but in the end it wasn't his fault. It was not tasty at all.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience start to finish. Check in took 30-40 mins (long line and 2 people working, that's understandable). We got into our room. The minute you enter it has a pungent smell. There were ketchup stains on the carpet along and dust everywhere. Whoever cleaned it prior didn't do a thorough job. We go to the front desk and ask them if we can be put in a different room. They showed us a couple of options and they were actually worse than what we currently had. We ultimately made the decision that we didn't want to stay at the hotel anymore. We asked for checkout and a refund. They offered us 50% refund. We told them no we are marriott bonvoy and you have not been able to offer us proper accommodation. We asked for the manager who wasn't around at the moment. Finally we were able to get the manager and he agreed to give us a full refund. We thought we were all squared away...until I checked my credit card bill and saw a full charge for the room. I called up the hotel and marriott. They both accused us of lying and suggested we stayed at the hotel overnight. This was not the case at all as the manager stated they will issue a full refund and we had the receipt from the other hotel. We have already filed a dispute with our credit card company. It's truly a shame that this is how they treat loyal marriott bonvoy members. I cannot imagine how they treat non-marriott members. Avoid this hotel at all costs. There are better options in Saint John and the surrounding area.

Yelp
I've been traveling to St Andrews for over a decade, usually for work, and this summer was the first time I was treated to a few nights at the Algonquin during a packed work trip. Let me tell you, it lived up to every expectation!! Walkable to everything and situated on the highest point in town, you feel as if you have arrived in a fairytale as you enter the grounds and hotel. The huge, historic, classy hotel has been thoughtfully restored, keeping many details of yesteryear, both elegant and funky! Service was top notch, food and beverages some of the very best in the region, and my favorite? TWO awesome swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, plus a hot tub. Bucket list goal: achieved.

Yelp
We stayed there for 2 nights on a tour. We were 3 in a room, it was very cramped, but we managed. On our last day at breakfast, we were going to sit at a large table, there were 5 in our group. The hostess asked if we were the bus people, we said yes...then she informed us that the table we were about to sit at, was for hotel guests. So exactly what was that?????? Talk about being looked down on...... I have been on many tours, and have never been treated so rudely. We're we not considered guests???????? We did inform the front desk, of what happened, but, have no idea of anything done. Disgusted with being treated like dirt under someone's feet.

Yelp
This is a beautiful place. The staff are friendly and are happy to great you. The staff on the patio is a bit different. I think they are lacking some cause they are always running and service is not top notch. The room was nice, clean and what I was expecting from them. The only downside was the size of the bathroom sink. No room to put anything anywhere. We wanted to enjoy the pool and it was not opened yet. It should have been or a nice warning to know ahead of time cause they still charge you the resort fee even if some stuff is not available. We had a few martinis on the patio and those were made to order and OMG did i enjoy them. We all did. They offer a shuttle to anywhere downtown so that was nice. Hope they will offer it till closing bar time cause it stop at 9 pm. Cause it's a nice walk back at 2 am.

Yelp
If you are going to spend time in St. Andrews, the Algonquin stands up on the hill overlooking Water St as a historical landmark and the finest lodging in the area. It reminded me somewhat of the Von Trapp Lodge in Vermont, an old school, high class lodge that traffics in endless charm and a vintage idea of what travel used to be. Our stay was eminently enjoyable, although not cheap. Our room had a truly magnificent view of the Bay of Fundy and the beds and bathroom were lovely. The resort features an indoor pool and outdoor pool; the outdoor pool was large and looked fun but was closed from the rain, but the indoor one features an epic water slide and hot tub. There is onsite golf and tennis, along with a tidal cove you can swim in a short walk away. The restaurant onsite is very good but again, not cheap. We stayed one night on our way east to Fundy National Park and it worked well for us, even on a rainy day, but I would hesitate to make it a long stay unless I planned to take advantage of the onsite tennis/golf and do a lot more in the area, because while it is amazing it does add up quickly.

Yelp
I have never been so disappointed in a hotel in my life. We booked this as part of a long vacation in Maine and New Brunswick. We were so excited to stay in this historic resort. Excitement turned to dismay upon entering our postage stamp sized room. The furniture was in terrible condition. The carpets were musty smelling and stained. There was no place to put a suitcase except on the floor. The bathroom was so tiny one could barely turn around in it. The sink was a pedestal style and the bowl was the size of a dinner plate. There was absolutely no place for toiletry items. We booked a patio room but could not enjoy it because every surface was covered in bird shit. GROSS!!!! We tried to enjoy the evening by taking the ghost tour. That was a lot of fun and the nice lady that led the tour did a great job. We had dinner at Braxton's and it was good. Not great. Just good. Server was attentive and knowledgeable. Upon returning to our room and sitting in the stale musty air we got online to find another place to stay. We couldn't see ourselves staying for three more nights. We checked out first thing the next morning. It is such a shame this beautiful old resort is in such a rundown condition. How can it possibly meet Marriott Bonvoy standards? Almost forgot to mention the dogs.... The entire hotel is pet friendly. If you're allergic to dogs or cats this would not be the place to stay. I've never seen so many pets in one hotel!

Yelp
This is a gem! We spent one day at this resort and loved every minute of it - it is in a majestic location and a beautiful resort. Staff were all wonderful, respectful, helpful and ready to do anything they could for us. Walking by the sea was so refreshing! Hope to return to this resort in the near future!

Yelp
The Algonquin is a solid 4/5 hotel. It has large rooms with comfortable beds, many overlooking the water. The lobby has an appealing style, and with every Autograph Collection hotel - the service is friendly and welcoming. The location is great, just a 8 minute walk from the waterfront. There is ample parking. There were even some friendly deer walking around the grounds.

Yelp
Absolutely magical. I came here for a work retreat, with 30+ people and they were more than accommodating. We didn't even need to leave the hotel the entire time. This beautiful Marriott (autograph collection) is definitely a staple to the hotel chain. They have multiple food sources on site - bars, pubs, etc. The room service is fairly priced. The food is presented beautiful and absolutely delicious. There are also so many other luxuries, there's a spa onsite, they do a ghost tour which show cases their basement and the way the Algonquin looked like before it's 2014 renovations, there is a beautiful pool, water slide, and hot tub and bathrooms al throughout so you do not need to constantly run to your room. They hold yuk yuks comedy festival once a month in the winter months with a buffet, and it's definitely worth it. Everything is clean and pristine all the time. Everyone we saw was overly amazing, greeting you with a smile and a polite gesture. Always going above and beyond to try to make your experience elevated and epic! We went in the winter, which did not keep us from experience the Algonquin from its full potential. I definitely will be back but definitely want to go in the summer months. Absolutely breath taking!

William R.

Yelp
Was disappointed here. Room was ok but room service was horrible. Ordered a hamburger and a steak with two Caesar salads and two glasses of lierre end wine. With tip $195.00!! Hamburger was over cooked and lukewarm. Steak was tough. There was no salt, nor pepper, or ketchup with it. No table in the room and one tray was brought. Had to eat on our laps. I'm sorry but for the price of the hotel and the reputation of the restaurant that was unacceptable. Not impressed.

Yelp
I always want the experience at the Algonquin to be more than it is. Perhaps I've read the "Summers in Saint Andrews" book too many times, and was addicted to Downton Abbey. They really should capitalize on what brings people to the property, and that is a historical period of romance and Renaissance. They would do well to at least dedicate one area of the hotel to look like a throwback of the 20s, or host a period night once a month. They have a very young, yet eager, staff. The seasoned waitstaff are pleasant. I realize the Marriott just took this property over, and they should be sending their top resort folks from other international locations in to make this THE crown gem destination of the Maritimes.

Yelp
This hotel was fine, but not extravagant. Our room was quite cramped for what we paid for, and was missing amenities (mini fridge, microwave, mini bar, bath tub). Also, the hotel restaurant was extremely unprofessional. For example, we had ordered a simple black tea and the waiter came back and threw 2 herbal teas on our table and demanded we pick one. I feel like for a higher end hotel, you should have higher standards...

Yelp
I stayed at the Algonquin for two nights and it was an interesting experience. The beds were somewhat comfortable although the mattresses could have been softer. The bathrooms were clean and got the job done, however, they could be more spacious. However the best part of my stay was the waterslide at the pool. P.S. My only complaint is the slow service at the restaurant. One should not have to wait two hours for their entree.

Yelp
I'm sorry to say that no one in my family was impressed by this hotel. For some reason at breakfast, the only place to eat was inside in a very hot solarium. You couldn't eat outside in the 70 degree sunshine. What is the Algonquin managers thinking? Our decorative pillows on the bad had several large stains and there was so much dust n the bathroom fan that it fell on me during a shower. Our first and last experience with their staff also left a very bad impression on us. Valet was no where to be found when we arrived, my husband found them inside flirting/talking to girls and he was ignored by them even standing in front of their stand. Best of all, when we were leaving a valet watched us carry all 5 of our bags down the stairs and he was less then 5 feet away. He had the keys to our car but decided to go inside instead of giving them to us. We then had to hunt him down inside. I spoke to a manager and this is obviously an issue. He said they are supposed to help you with bags and always have at least valet out front. Well, on both of our interactions with the valet neither happened. We did have a nice dinner in their restaurant and you could sit outside then.

Yelp
arrived 930pm after crossing the St. Laurence via ferry and 3hr drive. looked straight out of an agatha christie novel (think: murder she wrote). the feel of the hotel was british colonial with kilted bellmen and in keeping with the Fairmont tradition, the buffet breakfast IS a highlight! a bit of a change because now english is again the lingo. gotta say, staying here makes the 3day pitstop more than just a comfort.

Yelp
Following a relaxing meander around St. Andrews, I stopped by for a glass of wine and seafood chowder. The atmosphere in the lounge area is great. Classic decor was inviting. The seafood chowder was great. Rich and flavorful with ample seafood. Sipping wine by the fireplace brought a peaceful end to the day.

Yelp
The Fairmont Algonquin was quite a treat on our drive through New Brunswick. I would go back to St. Andrews for the Fairmont alone. I noted on a certain other unmentionable travel review site that people were not overly impressed with it. I think this is because people who frequent Fairmonts in general desire luxury over character. The formula is reversed here. As far as I could tell, the Fairmont is the place to stay in St. Andrews, although a short walk up and over from the Water St/Kings St intersection in the heart of town. The main floor is really the heart of the hotel and has been updated tastefully, keeping the original flavor of the building and the area. We did not have a chance to eat or drink on the beautiful terrace or partake of the fire pits on the front lawn, but both looked straight out of a storybook, northeastern August vacation. The workout room in the basement was very oddly located, but well equipped and excellently cool (thank you!) and complimentary. Our room was small and not luxurious, but lovely in its own way. Our bed was amazingly comfortable and since there was a thunder storm, our ceiling fan and the open french doors were perfect for a lovely cool night's sleep. The bath was clean and functional, but I do think that the bath tub and surround could use an update. Tile with grout is very 1985 and does not fit the character of the hotel. Hot water was abundant, however. I could not connect with the wifi that is free with a 'president's club' membership which was disappointing. I used the wireless keyboard through the TV and it was a fairly hellish experience which involved very slow and awkward typing and surfing. The whole experience felt wonderfully relaxing with a wonderful view, quiet comforts and breezy old-fashioned style.

Yelp
Unlike the Frontenac, the Algonquin is not quite as charming in its age and decor. We spent a very sleepy new year's eve here, and it was a ghost town. The restaurant closed at 10 (no champagne toast!), and I'm certain we were the only people staying there on our floor. It's just not the same in the winter. As of January 1, they are no longer operated by Fairmont and per the Wikipedia page, the province has put the hotel up for sale. Hopefully someone will save this place.

Yelp
If you are going to get stormed in then the Algonquin Resort is the place to be! We went for a relaxed knitting retreat put on by Cricket Cove & the Algonquin. We had a relaxing day in the pub knitting the Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West. Lunch was so good! Carrot ginger soup, make your own salad and open-face sandwiches pairs with your choice of wine. My favourite was smoked salmon on rye... Mmmm For supper, we went to the pub. Although the service was slow (only a couple of staff on to serve a full pub), when the food came it was great and as a bonus reasonably priced. I had the honey garlic wings. My friends had pizza, burgers, and sweet potato fries. We all found the food excellent. There was live entertainment which was a bonus. We left to see Daniel. He took a group of us on a very entertaining Ghost Tour. We even got to explore the tunnels under the hotel. Very spooky especially when we realized there were exactly 13 of us on this tour. It inspired me to reread King's "The Shining". Very spooky once the blizzard started on Sunday and Monday. Breakfast the next morning was yummy too. Sunday buffet includes fresh fruit, oatmeal, sausage, bacon, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and French toast. Service was excellent. After breakfast we spent some time knitting near the fire and were entertained by a piano player. We had two suites with dining areas, sink, Coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. Lots of space especially when we opened the adjoining doors. We stocked up on snacks once we realized the Confederation Bridge was closed. The resort gave us a great storm rate for the next two nights. We were able to go for long walks in the hotel or swim whenever we needed. I wish that the pub was open another evening but it is off season. We dined in the lounge instead. It was lovely especially the desserts. I loved the Creme brûlée. Moira sighed over the blueberry cheesecake wrapped in chocolate. Presentation added to the enjoyment but we did pay more for it. Coffee took a long time to come, but living up to the impeccable service I came to expect we were not charged for it. All the staff were so accommodating, especially Stephen, Ryan, Daniel, Lauren, Karen, and Laurel. They are the names I remember, but everyone spoiled us. There was a cleaner that was so good that when some guests got up from knitting to check on lunch. He'd completely cleaned their spot by the time they came back two minutes later. The resort gave their staff rooms for the night before the storm to ensure safety of their staff and uninterrupted serve for their guests. What a great place! I will be back soon. If you get the chance stay at the Algonquin Resort.

Yelp
Comfortable, clean and well appointed. Staff is so accommodating and was extremely helpful during our stay. We will be making The Algonquin a regular vacation destination. This is a hotel which takes its opportunities for service to an art form. Well done and thank you!

Yelp
This was a great resort steeped in rich history. The resort has undergone a two-year refurbishment and is in immaculate condition in the lobby areas, front desk, Braxton's, exterior, and in room interiors. Although the rooms are just a bit smaller than normal (the original hotel was built in 1889), they are extremely well-appointed and are very fancy. The pool area, exercise room as well as other guest common areas are all amazing. Braxton's is an awesome restaurant and Braxton's bar is a really fancy bar area just off the nice lobby. The lobby has several games areas for which to entertain yourselves as well as bar service. Overall a very awesome hotel and one of the best places to stay in St. Andrews. I would recommend to family and friends.

Yelp
Beautiful gilded age hotel in a very cute, well preserved coastal town. We did not stay at the hotel but just dropped by for drinks on the veranda. The public spaces and the gardens of the hotel are beautiful. The room corridors look a bit worn and dated. I would imagine it to be pretty much like the Fairmont in Victoria BC that we stayed in a few years ago. Wonderful faded glory. The G&T on the veranda was great if a bit stingy. We thought that we should have had lunch here instead of down in the town where it was very touristy.

Yelp
We drove up the Maine coast in search of beautiful ocean vistas, sunny skies and delicious seafood. We decided to stay at this hotel because it had pools, was near the ocean and most importantly allowed dogs. The resort has all the things we were looking for, in a beautiful seaside setting. The hotel was recently renovated and it looks like it. Our room was small but had high ceilings so made the size not so noticeable. The staff is young and kind though probably could use some additional training in customer service. Questions that they do not know the answer to are largely responded to with a "I have no idea" rather than a "Let me try to find that answer for you." Some answers were just plain incorrect but these are minor matters. The rooms and the hotel are lovely for the price. The food at the hotel is passable but you really come for the views.

Korby S.

Yelp
What a beautiful hotel. The water slide is a blast. The restaurants are terrific. The town is lovely. And it's a short walk from the hotel to the beautiful Kingsbrae Gardens. The staff is very professional and courteous. They helped us adjust our plans that were affected by Hurricane Dorian. We had the best visit!

Yelp
I've wanted to stay here for years and finally had an opportunity- definitely not worth the money or the hype. Room expensive, no breakfast included. Hockey players running the halls all night and early am and staff doing nothing. Tried calling the front desk to complain- no one answered. Walked over and they were there..., but did little to resolve the issue. In am, I asked for manager's card as stay was terrible, not even an apology offered. I won't be back.

Holly K.

Yelp
Well the resort is beautiful. Beds are very comfortable and rooms spacious. The dining experiences however were severely lacking. Out service at brunch yesterday was almost non existent, we had to seek out our waitress so many times for obvious things. Like, water?? Coffee refills? My eggs Benedict was just okay, not enough hollandaise and cold potatoes. Then we go to dinner, there were 8 of us, and another disappointment. Shout out to Jordan he is a great server, but the kitchen really dropped the ball. Firstly they were out of oysters, then ran out oh halibut and lobster. ( hey guys, aren't these are local easily accessible products??) We had 4 scallop appetizers, only one was properly seated and one was missing bacon. The halibut's were so over cooked and my steak was flavourless. I believe it is time to revamp your kitchen staff, they obviously don't care much. And went back today because we are still here and received rotten strawberries in our cheese board. Sigh. And the olive that someone dropped at our table last night remains on the floor. Double sigh.

Yelp
Was assured at time of booking that hotel renovations would be complete. With 3 weeks notice was contacted and told hotel would not be open, and that my reservation was cancelled. Our stay at the Algonquin was to be the highlight of our vacation, and now we are left scrambling to find alternate arrangements. The hotel should not have accepted ANY reservations if they were not 100% sure about the reopening date.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this treasure at the suggestion of the border guard, who suggested we drive "a bit further up the road before looking for a hotel." We drove on through the dark, and literally drove into their drive without knowing where we were. It was like entering another century....a welcoming fire, a warm spacious entry and a doorman in a kilt. The rooms were generously sized, well-appointed, and, since we were off-season, reasonably priced. The restaurant had a good selection of regional foods. We were very impressed with the entire resort, and would return to this resort if we were in the area again.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience. Top notch all the way. My family and I had a wonderful time. The rooms were incredible. Food and service excellent. Golf course was terrific. Every single person at the hotel goes out of the way to make you feel like you are a VIP at all times.

Yelp
I have wanted to stay at this hotel for the past couple of years, since I first saw a picture of it. It truly is a beautiful and magnificent resort. it is very easy to get to once you cross into New Brunswick from Maine (I will say the drive from Portland to New Brunswick is long and brutal through some terrible roads, but it is worth it. The resort is within walking distance of the water and the views are amazing. The hotel is old and beautiful. It is well kept up and has all the modern conveniences. The staff is very friendly and if you're lucky you get to meet "Sydney", the hotel ambassador. She is a lovely Labrador Retriever and very friendly. The hotel has many great features, including an area with a fire place and places for people to play chess or board games (provided by the hotel), or even to do a puzzle if they wish. Also, there was someone playing the grand piano while i was in the bar. The bar and restaurant were both great. I wasn't really hungry, so I just had a nice bowl of Potato-Leek Soup and a piece of the most amazing Blueberry Lemon Curd Cheesecake. They also had my favourite beer, Alexander Keith's from Nova Scotia. The rooms were beautiful and a perfect size. The bed was very comfortable and the WiFi was great, despite it being an old building in a relatively rural area. Now, the only reason I will not give them five stars is that the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. We were evacuated to a building across the lot from the hotel. I am pleased the staff was proactive and that it turned out to be a false alarm. However, the hotel should've provided either a discount or extra Marriott Rewards Points to their guests for the inconvenience. Naturally, it took me awhile after that to get back to sleep and I had a six hour drive back to Southern Maine that morning. So, I didn't get the restful experience I was looking for here. The hotel was very quiet and it's very beautiful. And I hope to stay there again and hope that next time I will be able to get a comfortable rest. I do recommend staying here though. It is really lovely.

Yelp
My family loves to come here each New Year's to celebrate my birthday. It is a wonderful adventure. The brunch is amazing. I love the friendly atmosphere in the lobby where people play board games and sit by the fire with their dogs. The pool and slide provides hours of fun for me and my kids. I hope to return again in warm weather.

Yelp
Where to even start? The best thing about our stay was the pillow and mattress. They were very comfortable. The room had no fridge or microwave (I didn't even know that was possible these days), there is no complimentary breakfast ($250/night and no breakfast?!). Went to the in-house restaurant and waited for over an hour (with 2 kids under 10) to get a luke-warm breakfast, had to send my tea back because it was basically cold. The Eggs Benedict had no flavour at all. Had to get my own mug from the shelf because my waitress seemed inept. No spoons come with your utensil package? The waitress didn't even bother asking us how things were, just rushed us out the door. I feel like she knew how bad our experience was and didn't want to hear about it. Overall, not happy with our dining experience at all. I realize there were bigger parties than ours, but staff accordingly. If you know you have a wedding that weekend, maybe throw an extra chef or 2 in the kitchen. I have always heard great things about this "resort" (don't be fooled, it's just a trick so they can charge you a $15 "resort fee") but we were very let down and won't be staying there again.

Yelp
Looking for a day trip while on business in Fredericton, my friend and I ended up at the Algonquin on the advice of a colleague. Almost EVERYTHING in St. Andrews was closed, so we decided to make do with whatever the hotel was serving. A potentially disappointing trip was made absolutely delightful and memorable by Alex, the head bartender. When he overheard us talking about craft cocktails, he stepped in ever so politely to understand our tastes and guide us. I don't think I've ever encountered anyone so knowledgeable or passionate about flavors and what goes with what. When time came for dinner, we ordered our meals and asked Alex to choose the wine for us, and he did not disappoint. I hope the management at the Algonquin knows what a gem they have in Alex! In truth, the entire staff could not have been more gracious or welcoming. And it's a lovely hotel, even on a bleak gray day in early April. The rooms are well appointed and cozy. I will be back...eager to see what Alex has invented for warm weather!

Yelp
What a great place! I can't believe I didn't know about it and come here many times before. The building and grounds are striking! The staff is first rate and make your stay even more pleasant because they're so friendly and helpful. They'll go above and beyond to make sure their guests have a perfect experience. The rooms are excellent. So, what more could you as for? How about a championship golf course, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, an excellent and well equipped workout facility. On top of that there is nightly entertainment, plenty of activities for guests to indulge in, or not, and the restaurants are very, very good. Oh yeah, there's a great spa experience to be had, which is one of their claims to fame, but I didn't indulge so I can't comment.

Yelp
We spent a week at the Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews. I don't want to leave! The hotel is beautiful, tastefully decorated with beautiful seating areas throughout. The pools are beautiful and the views are amazing. The rooms are clean, spacious , and comfortable. We had a family room that had a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. Bathrooms were impeccable down to the bath products that included soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and sponge. Outdoor pool was very nice with a bar available to have a glass of wine pool side. The kids loved the indoor pool and waterslide. The chlorine smell in the indoor pool is strong so don't stay too long. The pool is not monitored. One day, a group of teens was running amuck, blocking drains on the water slide causing water to build up and pour down over the stairs, jumping on the slide at the top, trying to climb up the slide, and going down 5-6 at a time. On Friday the hot tub water smelled like dog. I would opt for the outside pool if possible. The restrooms at both pools are very clean. The food at the restaurant is fine but the service is slow, especially at breakfast. There are gluten free options. Overall, I would rate this resort at 4 to 4.5 stars. I will definitely return!

Yelp
It was my birthday and my husband booked a dinner with the bar /restaurant since the main dining room was closed for the season. We arrived but no one was at the desk to greet us my husband went to the bar and I waited. The lady said we could sit wherever we wanted. I pointed at one table thinking it looked set up for a reservation. Our server arrived but said those menus was not correct so we gave those up and received not one but four menus. We had lots to read, picked cocktails mine was lovely. I recommend the Katie cove ", I ordered the beet salad and the soup of the day. My husband had the salmon appetizer and the filet mignon. Very nice. After we ate our appetizers my husband asked it was possible for a side of a green pea risotto, the server said she would check. She returned and said no green peas in the kitchen, my husband said that's okay how about a side without mushroom since it was an allergy ( then I spoke up and said,"that would be for me , I have the allergy to mushroom) she said oh and left. So she never came back until our meals came. When she finished putting down our dishes and questioned our needs I spoke up and asked about the risotto and she said yes it's on his plate. We said ohhh.. Anyways my husband didn't get his potato and the risotto was plain no salt or sauce no seasoning. I found myself getting up set for this small misunderstanding. I ended up mentioning to the server what had really happened. She seemed truly sorry for the misunderstanding the materdee came over and seemed caring about everything. We were so impressed with the concern and respect on this minor misunderstanding that I am giving not only the food and service four stars I will be going back soon for more. Its pricy but I felt for this resort it was worth it!!!!!!

Yelp
Two years ago this hotel underwent a renovation project to the tune of 50 million dollars and it shows. The hotel now sparkles like the gem it is. The update was done to the level of the simple but elegant lighting fixtures. Everything looks new. Breathtaking! Guest rooms are quite comfortable with excellent beds, first class bedding, linens, pillows, and robes. Even the showers are now stylish. The hotel restaurant, Braxton's was outstanding and the subject of another review. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness studio, tennis courts and bicycles available. Guests have access to the resorts golf course. The staff was welcoming and exceeded expectations. We had only booked a single night and I was sad to leave. It was a pleasant 10 minute walk to downtown St. Andrews through beautiful residential streets. If you are lucky enough to stay a Wednesday night make sure to hit the farmers market in town Thursday morning. When I return it will be for several days.

Yelp
The Braxtons Restaurant was a massive disappointment. I had called and made reservations for my parents 25th wedding anniversary and asked if it was possible to have a dessert that is peanut and nut free as my mother is deadly allergic and rarely gets to have dessert at restaurants. I was assured that it would be taken care of. On arrival they had lost our reservation, there was no possible dessert besides fruit (which was bad by the way), out of their 4 possible main dishes they did not have one of them or a substitute for it..... The mussels were sitting in a "sauce" that was literally just water... the steaks were a bad cut and cooked poorly.... I lost count of the number of dishes that went back to the kitchen.... would never go back. Would never recommend. For a $35 steak you'd think it would be better than shoe leather. Oh and they kept on saying they could not guarantee that dishes would not be cross contaminated in their kitchen when there were life threatening allergies.... We've never had this issue at any restaurant in the past and for a "high end" place it was the worst experience. Save your time and money and go to a different restaurant in St. Andrews

Yelp
Must stay!!! Love the location!!! The staff were excellent and accommodating to our needs! Enjoyed hanging out on Water Street!
