This place is has a cute atmosphere and the staff are very warm and provided lovely service. A very Family-friendly restaurant too!The pate and bread starter was delicious and I especially liked the grilled fish for main. For desserts we had the cheeseboard and some specials from the board - the cheesecake was great! It was really well-priced for everything and very worth it!

This restaurant is so underated! The staff are polite, well mannered and friendly. Food arrived within minutes of ordering, and was surprised at the food portions for the small price! Definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking for a bite to eat.

The food was decent. Considering it took 40 mins to prep 2 Sunday roasts and cauliflower cheese, Which were eatable, but the minimum would be to let us know it would take long. The beef was nice, the pork belly okay way too much fat 65%. The staff was quiet indifferent and didn’t seem to understand a simple : “can I have a Diet Pepsi please”. Not tourist friendly. I left smelling like a fried cod and the table Was sticky.

Really glad that I managed to find this place - it's a total gem. It's like somewhere you'd find in a totally happening city centre (no offence Dover). The reception we got was great, warm and friendly. The interior was modern and relaxing with a nice variety of seating both inside and through to the back there's a cracking outdoor area too. The menu was spot on, I opted for the haddock and chips and my colleague went for the steak. Both were amazing. The kitchen area is up front and open. The staff/management couldn't do enough to ensure we were happy. We'll be returning to Dover and definitely make this our go to restaurant.

Wow. This place is amazing. Every dish we had was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The drinks were great and the staff were so nice. The kitchen is in plain view and we saw every dish being served, all of it was so well presented and gave us food envy! Couldnt recommended this place enough!

Looking for GF and/or Vegan options in Dover? The Allotment was an amazing surprise, with excellent service, excellent menu, and superb preparation and food quality (for all preferences). Ambience is very nice; modern open concept in beautiful old structure. If the afternoon or evening is warm, you can enjoy your meal in the idyllic stone-walled private courtyard .

What a little Gem, beautifully decked out large stained glass front window. Food is lovely, I had the field mushrooms with stilton. Followed by the seafood stew followed by the salted caramel cheesecake, berry reasonably priced.

Yelp
EXCELLENT FOOD! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The menu was creative, and the establishment was beautiful with an outside garden. I ordered the muscles for an appetizer, which was amazing. And i highly recommend the Duck or Lamb for an entree. My sister and i had both and we were very happy!

Yelp
Really really nice, sustainable, local food in a congenial atmosphere! This place is a real standout, and definitely a must-go if you're spending time in Dover. Walking in, the decor and signage is very inviting, sleek and cute without being too twee. Inside is very nice, but it was a lovely night and we asked to be seated in the garden. A good call! The garden is not heated, but the high walls shield the tables against wind which is really nice in the summertime. Menu is short and very seasonable, with a tasty and well-edited wine list, most in the 14 - 17 GBP range with the exception of a few special celebratory bottles. Really nice concept. We chose our meals from specials on the chalkboard and were treated to a lovely salad before our mains arrived. My partner had the 21 day aged grilled sirloin, and I had an amazingly tender and flavorful beef in red wine sauce, which paired perfectly with the French red (Chateau de Lancyre Vieilles Vignes) we chose. So nice! We ended the meal with a couple of coffees and a dark chocolate cake, which was absolutely gorgeous. We were assisted by two servers, both of whom could not have been any nicer, more knowledgeable, or professional. Overall a top-notch experience in Dover!

Yelp
The service was very good. The food was...very average - my sister and I went for the lamb and grilled portobello mushrooms. The mushrooms were good - you can't go wrong with melted cheese, but lamb was a huge disappointment - we both had a suspicion that it was cooked before and was just put into a microwave before serving. I liked a nice touch of complimentary salad - but it was nothing exceptional - a few veggies, some dressing and pickled cabbage. I'm not so sure about pickled cabbage...it didn't quite match the rest of the salad plate. I liked that the chef was going around and talking to customers. I really wanted to like the food in this place too, but microwaved is just a no-no...

Yelp
Excellent service the first night we were here but was disappointed the online menu and its full veg options are not reflected in real life. For example, no roasted aubergines or mushroom parm. Thus, I just chose the baked cod, which was light and tasted lovely but not exceptional. My husband also got a fish dish with a spicy sauce which was quite tasty. He greatly enjoyed the panna cotta for dessert. We returned the next day (Sunday) for lunch and I got a roasted veg and cheese sandwich which was good. We sat in the lovely back garden but then smokers unfortunately came and as they always do, ruin everything.

Yelp
This is a friendly and reasonably priced place to eat. The food is very good and a lot of local grown vegetables are used in their menus. At the back of the restaurant there is an outside seating area which is very secluded, you would not believe you was on the main high street. The owners also encourage local allotment growers to bring in their excess veg and reward them by giving them vouchers for thing like a free bottle of wine with a meal or if they brin in a lot of veg a free meal of their choice. Great atmosphere and friend service

Yelp
Much nicer than I expected to find in Dover. Great starters (leek soup and garlic and chilli prawns). Underwhelmed by my main (Moroccan Lamb) and my companion's goat cheese tart was lukewarm, but both were still quite nice.

Yelp
Perfectly lovely restaurant after a full day of touring. We were starving and didn't order anything complicated, but despite other middling reviews, we were very pleased with our meal here. Nothing brilliant or inspired, but solidly made good quality food. The goat cheese starter was creamy smooth, warm and beautifully plated. Our burgers, ordered medium and medium-well respectively were both just as we'd asked (a crapshoot in most random UK restaurants we've found) and the fries were piping hot. The highlight though was the chocolate roulade. It wasn't at all what I expected, but turned out to be a chocolate ganache tart on a cookie crumble crust. We ordered ours with pistachio ice cream--they let you choose from a dozen flavors or creme fraiche. Plating was again lovely and the ganache was perfectly smooth. I'm a professional baker and highly critical of desserts so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this one. Service was friendly, quick, competent and helpful. If you're in the neighborhood of Dover Castle, this would be a good place to stop in what looked to be a sea of mediocre options.

Yelp
I've become a regular here since moving back to Dover. Opposite the town hall, the restaurant is open for breakfast lunch and dinner. You generally need to book on Friday/Saturday nights. The food quality is excellent, generally being locally sourced. The owner encourages locals to bring in produce they have grown themselves. The place probably seats around 25 at a push, it has an open kitchen which doesn't intrude on the dining experience in any way, not noisy and no drifting cooking smells. A blackboard menu normally offers about 6 starters and 8 mains. Starters range from soups such as Honeyed Butternut Squash soup(!) to maybe Twice Baked Stilton and Goats Cheese Soufflé. There are a few staple dishes in the mains selection, such as sirloin (locally reared) then seasonal dishes such as Slow Roasted 'crying' shoulder of canterbury Lamb. Prices are good for this quality of food, around £6 for starters and mains averaging £12-£13, from £8.95 (I think) for home made burgers up to £16 for 21 day aged sirloin. Can't comment much on the desserts as I'm normally too full to eat one, but they look good and are surprisingly reasonably priced, around £4 for most, say for Bramley Apple Tarte Tatin with custard or Almond and Raspberry frangipane and creme fraiche. The wine list deserves a mention too, I like the fact the house wines are very reasonably priced at £14 and others are all priced the same, £17. They have another list of "Expensive Wines of Exceptionally High Quality" if you really want to spend , again at a fixed price, £45. I haven't bothered with those! The standard list generally has a classic, one or two new worlds and maybe a local in each colour. It took me a few visits to get to it, but now I always drink the Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - great wine and a great price too. If you asked me where to get the best food in Dover town that wasn't Indian or Chinese, this is it. Enjoy. Edit (15/11/09): This place has just become the first ever actually IN Dover to be in the Good Food Guide. Well deserved.

Yelp
A favourite place to eat because it is reliable in combining friendly and knowledgeable service with fresh food from a varying menu with some popular regulars. The blackboard menu has been designed to appeal to a wide range from meat lovers to vegetarian and there is always a good fish dish. The kitchen is next to and visible from the small dinning area and in good weather there is outdoor eating in a courtyard garden. The atmosphere is always calm and efficient. There are usually a few surprise extras which is always pleasing. The host is friendly to all. Open Tues-Wed in day & Thur -Sat in eve. There may be better restaurants but I find it good value for money. A surprising find in Dover.
