"This contemporary, cosmopolitan hotel in the heart of the Mississippi Delta is a "nice, quiet getaway that’s made even more fun when paired with its cooking school and spa." Guest rooms are decorated in browns and purples reminiscent of the colors of delta earth and have oversized marble baths and local artwork. Cooking classes in the Viking Cooking School across the street cover topics like ethnic cuisine, basic techniques, and baking. The 7,000-square-foot spa offers a complete menu of treatments, including some designed for men. Order steaks, seafood, and Italian from the "excellent menu" at Giardina’s."

All I can say is, WOW. Very nice accommodations. The MOST impressive experience was how nice and accommodating all of the employees were. We are definitely going back. The bar staff was amazing. They made my wife and I feel like we belonged there.

The luxury hotel Alluvian in Greenwood, MS, continues to receive moderate ratings for a reason. Despite charging luxury hotel prices, the facility is out of place in its location. Further, it doesn’t provide amenities that are almost compulsory for luxury hotels, such as easy access to coffee or tea, complimentary or otherwise. We chose this hotel for the convenience of attending a Viking Cooking class, which was an excellent experience. If we attend another class, we’ll look for other accommodations. ||Location: The hotel is one of the few signs of commercial enterprise for several blocks. Always consider the surroundings of a hotel before traveling on foot after dark. Driving to the hotel was reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic small-town movie scene. When we arrived, two men, sloppy in appearance, greeted us at the curb. They offered to take our luggage; we declined. We never saw these men awaiting other travelers for the rest of our stay, which has left me wondering. No valet service was offered at this luxury hotel, only directions on where to first try parking, and then where to go if that parking lot was full.||The Hotel: The interior of the hotel is clean and well-maintained. We booked the hotel’s version of a suite, which is more often categorized as Jr. Suite in other hotels. The couch was well-used and in need of replacement. There was no television in the sitting area and no whole wall or door to separate the sitting and sleeping areas. A proper suite often affords one person an opportunity to nap, undisturbed, while another occupant works or watches TV in the sitting area. The air conditioning was only sufficient to keep the room from getting hot. If you prefer a cool sleeping temperature, this won’t be optimal. The temperature and a mattress well past the replacement date made our stay unrestful.||Amenities: If you are an early riser who likes their coffee soon after waking up, bring your own solution. No complimentary coffee or tea was offered in the room, lobby, or ground floor near the hotel’s ingress and egress points. If the hotel did offer coffee or tea, outside of breakfast service, it was not conveyed to us when asked. As alluded to, we had to wait until breakfast was available on the fourth floor. Arrive with your drinks and snacks. The hotel’s selection is minimal, and they charge a premium, as most hotels do. The adjoining restaurant, Giardina’s, is quaint and a good dining option. However, the hours make access restrictive, Mon-Sat 5PM-10PM. The higher, but appropriately priced dining, may be an unwelcome expense to most, caused by a lack of convenient options. Other dining choices would require additional driving.

Stayed 1 night at the Alluvian on a journey through MS & AL. Check in was efficient with free parking at the hotel back entrance. My room was large, with a great bathroom. On first sight the room was clean. But the windows where definitely not. Comfortable bed. Lady in the bar was super friendly. I had a reservation at their restaurant. Price was amazing for the quality they served. Biggest let down was the breakfast. Friendly hostess, but the food was just ok and felt cheap for a hotel like this.

Two multi-day stays at The Alluvian in two years, and there are many good reasons to return. Large, spacious rooms; generous and delicious Southern buffet breakfast; the great Giardina's (server named Queen is A+) just off the lobby; elegant decor throughout. Outstanding customer service and follow through from Robert and Brandy at The Alluvian earns a repeat visit again next year. Thank you both for your gracious hospitality and making guests feel valued and priority number one.

Hotel was very nice with a great breakfast. Bed was very comfortable. Not much to do in. Greenwood, but the Viking Cooking School across the street was very good.

My stay was September of 2023. The place is beautiful. Our room had a huge walk in shower and a separate bath tub. Two Queen sized beds. With great pillows. The outdoor terrace was comparable to one in NYC or Boston which is exactly what it reminded me of. The hotel also boosts an upstairs balcony where you can enjoy your breakfast, buffet style. They also have a restaurant on site that is open on weekends. I didn’t try it because it wasn’t open when I was there. The best part about this hotel is the staff. They were great, kind, helpful and friendly. They take Southern hospitality to a new level. This is by far the best 3 star hotel I’ve ever stayed in and you can’t beat the price. I’m wonder why it’s only 3 stars! Thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay. I hope to visit again.

The experience may be better upon arrival (I’ll come back to edit my review or leave a new one), but the service from the hotel’s front desk was terrible. We were given a gift card for one thousand dollars and unfortunately misplaced it. Upon calling to get help in the matter to book a stay, the lady was horrifically rude. To the point where, if I didn’t have the one thousand dollar gift card, I would never even consider a stay. I genuinely hate to even use the certificate after my experience. Again, I will update my review or post another based on my experience, IF (and only IF) I end up going through with booking a stay.

Had an excellent stay! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant in the hotel, Giardina's, had amazing food.

Yelp
If any hotel ever deserve the five stars, this is it. Everything was perfect. We've never had a better sleep in our lives. The beds were absolutely fabulous. It was like sleeping on a cloud says my wife.

Yelp
Stayed here as part of an outing that included the Viking cooking school. Hotel in downtown district across the street from cooking school. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed with closet space, view, king-size bed and large bathroom. The breakfast buffet was delicious - the bacon was divine!

Yelp
The hotel needs a facelift. It is worn and need some tLC . I never have to stay there again

Yelp
Went there for my birthday in November and it was phenomenal. It's nice and quiet and very pretty. The beds were comfy the staff was hospitable and so nice. Huge bathroom with a nice shower and tub. (Sorry I didn't take any pictures) the room was comfy and exactly what I expected! The breakfast buffet was definitely the highlight. So delicious we definitely looked forward to it every morning! The spa was amazing and a very nice time. I was disappointed with the pedicure but stacked up with everything else it definitely outweighed that. Would go again and would recommend to anyone wanting a get away!

Yelp
I loved this little Boutique Hotel! The room was the size of a small apartment. Great location and lobby decor. Was a favorite spot for the cast and crew of "The Help" when filming. The came for "Happy Hour"! Would come back again for a second visit! Greenwood is a charming little Southern town. I'm from Colorado, this was my first trip south of the Mason Dixon! Great food!

Yelp
Alluvian Hotel is a beautiful place to spend a weekend. The Viking Cooking School is directly across the street. Everything about the decor is just gorgeous. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is very well done and offers a wide variety of Southern breakfast foods from cheese grits to biscuits, eggs and good strong coffee. Parking was convenient and no hidden charges like a lot of downtown hotels.

Yelp
My husband and I made a quick trip here December 8, 2017, for one night. Greenwood is my hometown, right in the middle of the Mississippi Delta. I hadn't been back in over 7 years when we went and it had been over 20 years since my husband had been. He had never seen the Alluvian. Needless to say, he was pleasantly surprised to see such a sophisticated, upscale hotel right in the middle of downtown Greenwood. The Alluvian is the nicest hotel in Greenwood, so don't expect the place to be inexpensive, but remember you get what you pay for! Don't forget to get your green apple when you check in! There is only street parking in the front, but you can also park in the back of the hotel. There is no covered parking. We stayed in a suite with a king size bed, jacuzzi bath, separate shower, stainless steel fireplace with remote control, and a foyer area. The rooms are very roomy and beautifully decorated. There is also local area artwork all over the hotel. There is a lovely courtyard where you can sit and relax with a beautiful water fountain. It is located across the street from the famous Viking Cooking School. Also along Howard Street is a great book store, Turnrow Books, The Mississippi Gift Store, Fincher's (a great gift store) and Monograms and More (cute women's clothes store), and many more. Next time I would like to stay longer so I can check out the amazing spa that I have heard so much about!

Yelp
Greenwood, Mississippi is an picturesque slice of the idealized image of the American South. So odd then to find a five-star, luxury hotel like the Alluvian located in the heart of downtown - not that I'm complaining. But seriously, this place really should be in Beverly Hills, not Greenwood. In any event, the hotel actually fits in nicely with the rest of the town. It doesn't stand out at all actually, until you step inside. There you will be transported outside Mississippi to one of the more trendy coasts. There is a huge lounge adjacent to the lobby and there are fresh granny smith apples all over the place for your healthy snacking. There is a wine bar and a restaurant as well. The rooms are magnificent. Interestingly, this place was built on the wealth of Viking ovens.

Yelp
My fav place for a quick getaway with family & friends!!! The staff are like extended family members....great customer service!! I suggest getting a private room at hotel restaurant if possible and after your fantastic meal have a few drinks at the bar, you won't be disappointed.

Amy H.

Yelp
This is the first hotel stay that both my husband and I did not want to leave! The bed was super comfy, the pillows were perfect as were the linens. The staff was over the top nice, friendly, and helpful. I strongly suggest you get the suite if you stay (jacuzzi tubs). A fireplace in the room was a bonus and the decor was beautiful. The bar was a cozy little spot. The bartenders knew their stuff! The best Old Fashion and Manhattan I've had to date! You must reserve a class at the Viking Cooking School (directly across the street) and coordinate with your stay. That review will be next to post .

Tiki C.

Yelp
The guest rooms are gorgeous and the beds have given me the best sleep I've had in over 4 years! The have a complimentary buffet breakfast each morning. The restaurant bar that is connected to the main lobby is a local attraction with great food and nicely poured spirits! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
We booked the Alluvian this week 7-26-2019 because many of our friends recommended it and we wanted to take a cooking class at the Viking cooking school. The welcoming at the Alluvian was underwhelming, although we were processed quickly. The room was very clean and although, soon to be outdated, the decor was very nice and welcoming. The mattress was good. Sleep quality, not so good. When your neighbor, either above you, or on the side of you goes to the bathroom, you will hear it. When your neighbor has heart palpitations, you will reach for Valium or sleeping tablets. Either way, NORMAL night noises were so loud, that I could not rest. Now, the breakfast buffet was highly praised. I was sooo looking forward to it. It was your USUAL of eggs, biscuits, some bread, white bagels, scones, granola, some not so good fruit, bruised strawberries and very bitter coffee, decaf and caff. If I had to rate the breakfast buffet - I would give it a 4. What I consider a "scrumptious, memorable" breakfast bar is smoked salmon, different cheeses, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs, different breads, pastries, teas, real good tasting coffee, honey, granola, different kind of yoghurts, and fresh, good looking and tasty fruit. This is memorable, what we had, I would rather forget for the hefty price we paid. Would I recommend the Alluvian, nope, too expensive, and stay away from their restaurant. There is nothing wrong per se with the Alluvian, other than being overpriced, not welcoming, not detail oriented and the breakfast buffet is simply fake news.

Yelp
While I just had a quick one night stay at the Alluvian, I can't wait to stay again! A small hotel with a wonderful Southern boutique feeling with modern amenities, this hotel will be hard to beat. With a wonderful restaurant, bar and spa on property and gorgeous rooms with absolutely gorgeous bathrooms - it is certainly an oasis!

Ling X.

Yelp
Very comfortable and relaxing spa hotel in the small town. Definitely a good choice to spend vacations and find inner peace.

Dominique N.

Yelp
I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for the Alluvian already. It's one of the few (if not only) boutique hotels in the Delta outside Memphis. While I didn't spend a night at the hotel (can't comment on that) I did attend a catered banquet there that was fantastic. The decor at the hotel is very sophisticated - like something I would expect to see in the SF Bay Area. Nice lounge and lobby area, plenty of room to meet in groups. The food itself was delicious - the catfish cakes (somewhat like crab cakes) were a treat and the pecan cake and icecream for dessert were fantastic. I hope to check out the Viking cooking school across the street next time...and learn how to make my favorites!

HQ H.

Yelp
My DH planned a wonderful trip to the place of my birth as part of a longer driving tour of the American South. I've read and heard about the hotel forever so it was great to check it out. We had a delicious crab dip at the bar to go along with a beer and a delicious grapefruit and rose scented cocktail. Dinner at the Giardina restaurant was superlative! The room itself was lovely, excellent linens and most important to me, really good, quiet air conditioning. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, something that really is palpable and unique to southerners.

Yelp
This might be the single most enjoyable hotel experience I have ever had. And this is coming from a man who travels for work 6-7 months out of the year! Greenwood, MS is a charming small Southern town. There are a handful of local eateries in walking distance as well as a few watering holes to quench your thirst. The decor at the Alluvian is first rate. You could compare this hotel to any high end hotel ANYWHERE. That is until you compare the staff here with the staff at other hotels. You will not find more friendly, accommodating, helpful staff at any other hotel anywhere across the globe. The mix of Southern hospitality and true happiness to have you in their establishment is undeniable. The adjoining restaurant is very nice. The fact you can use their bar and take your drinks out to the hotel's courtyard is a great touch! Sitting outside in that courtyard in the evenings with how the trees are lit up is something straight out of a movie. The breakfast that the Alluvian provides is far and above what I have come to expect from a complimentary breakfast. The food was all very well prepared, fresh, and plentiful. None of the standard 2 selection setups with stale coffee here!! Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, grits, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, quiche, and the list goes on and on!! The bottom line is that I have paid 2.5 times more to stay in lesser hotels over the years. I would make the trip back to Greenwood just for the experience again without a doubt.

Karen O.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Very helpful and friendly front desk! That is so important! They kept us up to date with the virus recommendations with emails and phone calls. Our room was more than we expected and we look forward to our next visit!

Cindy H.

Yelp
I have been coming down here for 13 years and had no idea this place existed. What a beautiful place. Service was excellent

Chris F.

Yelp
Probably the worst night sleep ive ever had at a hotel and I travel weekly. The hotel is nice and the rooms are nice, but if you get room 319, ask for another room. It is right below the "breakfast buffett" room. They had a function up there at night, which was loud, then they had to clean until after 11pm, vacuum cleaners, chairs moving, etc. the roof must be paper thin, then to top it off, they start preparing the bfast room before 5 am and its like they are right on top of me. I have to drive 7 hours today and have had one of the worst nights sleep ever.

Chrissy H.

Yelp
Excellent service, awesome rooms, helpful staff. This place took good care of us on our visit. Everyone, at the hotel and the people of greenwood, are super friendly and the *free* breakfast was spectacular. Will definitely be returning!

Cathy A.

Yelp
We've only been here 18 hours and we are very disappointed. We are part of a group of 10. Disappointment begaan st check-in while we were completely ignored as the disinterested lady at the desk answered the phone and handled the desk herself. Another man walked through, saw us waiting, and just passed by. The room is very nice. No complaints here. We headed to meet our group for dinner in their restaurant, Giardina's. we were seated promptly and then totally ignored. It was extremely awkward with our group. We finally grabbed someone walking by and begged for service. A lady showed up and took drink orders and got menus. The service is unbelievably slow. Drinks trickled in rather than all st once. Same for food.several in our group didn't get items they ordered. We sat for so long and no one ever offered us another drink or some bread.the food actually was delicious but its line a time warp there. I'm afraid to head down to breakfast now for fear it's more of the same. Sad.

Michael S.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I travel extensively for my work, and have stayed in many hotels all around the world. I have experienced the enter gamut. The Alluvium is absolutely one of the finest hotels I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. You will be amazed... Along with the various outstanding restaurants (Giardina's right there at the hotel and the Delta Bistro just a couple backs away) and charming shops (especially the Turnrow Bookstore and Art Gallery), this is at least worth a detour if you are remotely in the area. It will be worth it! They even have a spa (the Alluvian Spa) right across the street, and you can take cooking lessons across the street in a teaching professional kitchen at the Viking Cooking School (they make the great Viking stoves, ranges, refrigerators etc. in Greenwood). Go, stay, and enjoy!

Dint I.

Yelp
We enjoyed. Clean, modern, breakfast was included, easy to find, green apples were every where.

Ashley H.

Yelp
Most comfortable beds and linens. There was often no one at the front desk. My reading light was broken, and there was a sock in my bed. I imagine the sock got caught up with sheets in wash. Still the Alluvian is a beautiful hotel with lovely rooms. As we left for dinner at Lusco's there was an amazing singer with an acoustic guitar in lounge. Wish we could have stayed to hear her.

Virginia B.

Yelp
I agree with Chris F. We were at a sold-out function and got stuck in room 319. Thankfully the next night we did get moved. The first night was the most horrible I have ever spent in any hotel or motel. They should permanently close that room and turn it into office space or closet. Aside from that, it is one of the most amazing hotels I've stayed in and I am well traveled. Just please remember to tell them you do not want the 3rd floor. I'm sure the noise in the adjoining rooms was bad but probably no as horrible.

Tierney A.

Yelp
Booked before on the phone. Arrived around 8PM to find that staff had given away two bed room and placed us in a King room. They also raised price. Went to dinner downstairs at the bar where bartender was vey slow and messed up dinner order. For after dinner drinks he directed us to a very scary place, Joes, where the bathroom stalls were made out of shower curtains. The Aluvian and the town of Greenwood are far from charming

John D.

Yelp
Been there, done that... and I looooved it. I've travelled extensively and this is one of the finest hotels you'll find. Great food, walked the town - I'll be back.

Jason H.

Yelp
Exceptional comfort and decor. This is a very fine hotel. The service was warm, attentive and unobtrusive. The artwork in the lobby and lounge areas is fabulous. I believe this is one of the finer hotels I have encountered.
