I stayed here in late June 2024 to surprise y mother on her birthday. This was a very emotional stay for me as I used to walk through the grounds to primary school next door some 50 years ago. Ina, so pleased that the conversion to a hotel has been so sympathetic. The room was very comfortable and the food delicious. All the staff were very friendly and helpful even though I checked out very early in the morning to get to the beach at low tide when no one was there. Yes, I had the whole detach to myself.

We recently spent a wonderful few days at The Alverton Hotel in Truro and were absolutely charmed by every aspect of our stay. The Grade II-listed historic building, once a convent, is stunning—complete with vaulted ceilings, a bell tower, arched windows, and tranquil gardens.||Our room was in the stunning courtyard, offering a peaceful and private setting. It was beautifully furnished and impeccably clean, with thoughtful touches that made it a true home away from home.||Breakfast each morning was a highlight. We enjoyed the Alverton Garden Grill and Eggs Florentine, both of which were fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented—showcasing the best of local produce.||There was one thing that truly stood out: the presence of General Manager Paul Ricketts during our first visit. A consummate professional, Paul’s dedication to ensuring every guest’s stay is a stay to remember was clear to see. Sadly, he was absent during our subsequent visit as he was away celebrating his son’s birthday. We hope his celebrations were as memorable as our stay!||Please also pass on our heartfelt gratitude to every member of the staff—from the welcoming reception team and attentive housekeeping to the friendly breakfast staff. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm made our stay truly special.||From Tina and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The Alverton exceeded our expectations on every level. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Cornwall and very much hope to return soon!

The Alverton has been our base for exploring the wonderful city of Truro on several occasions in recent years. It’s easy to see why. Its grounds are stunning, the public areas have a grandeur in keeping with the hotel’s heritage and staff are friendly and courteous in all settings. Having pre and post pandial drinks on the hotel terrace is a particular pleasure. Dishes in the brasserie are delicious and well presented. Our wine waitress Bonnie gave excellent recommendations. All in all compelling reasons why we will no doubt continue to visit the Alverton in years to come.

I stayed at The Alverton for two nights while attending a wedding, and the entire experience was brilliant from start to finish.||From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade in the courtyard, which was a lovely touch—quiet, comfortable, and full of character.||The wedding itself was run flawlessly. The setting is beautiful, with a perfect balance of historic charm and elegant touches. Everything felt smooth, well-organised, and relaxed, which made the celebration even more special.||The service throughout—from check-in to dining to the event staff—was consistently warm and professional.||Highly recommend The Alverton both for a peaceful stay and as a top-tier wedding venue.

We had our beautiful wedding at the Alverton on the 14th June and wow just wow. The day, service and treatment we were given was outstanding. We were treated like a king and queen. Everything down to the final details, help and support through out the day was second to none. I really cannot rate the Alverton for events and especially weddings enough. The girls from the wedding events department Clare and Sally deserve medals. They really are the top in their field of wedding event organisers and just help with absolutely everything you could think of or don't even think of! If you are considering getting married at The Alverton then do it ! You won't regret it ! The Alverton will always hold a special place in our hearts after such a special day.

A very mixed experience on our 3rd stay. The rooms are fantastic, even more so the one we had which was an upgrade and was very much appreciated. The bar experience and lunch was absolutely fantastic, really tasty and worth the price, it's a nice intimate setting and a great range of drinks and cocktails. However, we chose to dine in the restaurant in the evening for the first time and I have to say it was terrible. I won't go into details, as these were addressed on the night, but it put a real damper on our 20th Wedding Anniversary celebrations to say the least. I feel this part of the hotel is letting you down. Would I stay here again, absolutely, would I have drinks and snacks at the bar, definitely, would I eat in the restaurant again - not a chance, which is a shame. 2* overall as the 1* restaurant experience ruined our special occasion. (I'll hold off on sharing the dining photos for now).

I had been anticipating this stay for months and unfortunately I am incredibly disappointed. In no way it was addressed that rooms in this hotel are not easily accessible. We are a party of 4 people, two of whom are in their 70s, and there are multiple narrow stairs and hallways going up and down to reach the rooms. The lift only reaches room 1-8 and I had to carry 6 suitcases to three rooms in different parts of the building as there was no one from the staff to help. Room 27 had to be changed because the window glass was broken and badly replaced with plexiglass but the window would not close. The new room was nice and more spacious. In room 12, in both beds you could feel every spring moving under the mattresses making it an uncomfortable sleep. It was also really hot but we couldn’t sleep with the windows open as there was an intermittent sound coming from outside. The lady at the reception desk said that they were fully booked in the main building and we would have to go in a separate part of the property so we stayed anyway as we didn’t want to be too far from the other 2 people who speak very little English in case they needed something. Breakfast is also not up to a 4-star hotel standards. We booked this hotel as they mentioned gluten free breakfast options and this was confirmed upon checking in. We asked the staff in the morning and firstly they confirmed that they had gluten free bread and granola, but then they said they had run out of both. It’s also weird that you need to agree upon a set hour to access the breakfast room (we asked for 8:30/8:45 but they could only accommodate us at 8:15 or 9:15) and then wait 30mins to get the food. For the prices they are charging I would not recommend it and it’s a real shame as the building itself is beautiful.

We ran an event at the Alverton and Sally and Claire on the events team were brilliant from start to finish. They answer emails quickly and the grand hall was set up on arrival exactly as planned. It is a beautiful setting with easy access plenty of parking and the cream tea was warm and delicious.

Yelp
Came down to cornwall for the weekend and ended up here for dinner on our first night in Truro. The hotel itself is beautiful, an old convent with gorgeous features and lots of space as could only be expected. The bar and restaurant area are very modern and light with plenty of seating for large and small groups. The bar was well stocked and the staff were lovely. They had more gin on offer than I even knew existed ! The food was lovely. Menu had a great selection of meat and seafood with a few vegetarian choices. We had a selection of starters which everyone loved, I had the pork belly which was cooked absolutely perfectly. For my main I had the duck breast, and no word of a lie, this was probably the best tasting and most well cooked piece of duck I have ever had. For dessert I had the deconstructed peanut butter cheesecake which consisted of various ice creams and peanutty goods which again was lovely, but we all know Cornish ice cream is the best in England ! I would definitely come back to the restaurant, fairly pricey but the food and setting are both worth it. Only 2 mins walk from Truro centre too ! 5*

Yelp
We just had our wedding at this venue and it was absolutely amazing. The venue itself is beautiful and the staff were first class. The food was amazing also. Can't rate this place highly enough. Sam & Alana

Yelp
Been to a wedding here and a few corporate events and it's OK, they could make so much more of it though given its beautiful setting and buildings which are stunning. The staff are rude (just ask Chris Moyles who stayed recently and documented this!) and I have had first hadn experience of them cancelling our work Xmas party there with 1 week notice and then trouble getting the money out of them and they didn't even offer any kind of recompense for the inconvenience. Poor effort.

Yelp
great hotel, bit eery in the main ballroom area - dancefloor where the alter would have been bit odd!
