Alright alright, another American checking in... Hello, hi!
Where I grew up in the good ol' US of A, I was an hour's drive away from the famous city of Julian, CA. Julian is a tiny one-street town in the mountains (wayyyyy) East of San Diego. When you go there, you feel like you've time travelled back in time to the old West. And every year, the people of San Diego (including myself) travel East for one reason only... the PIES. Julian is famous for their hand-made, generation-spanning, delicious pies. Anyway, you may be asking yourself, why am I talking about Julian? Isn't this a review for a place in KBH?... I'm getting there!
Ok, so you can imagine, once I heard that there was a new pie place that boasted "authentic American pies" in KBH, I was very skeptical. I was ready to be a real mean critic of the pies at The American Pie Company. But... alas, they got me. And they got me gooooood.
From the authentic tile patterns on the floor (single-handedly laid by the owners!), the antique kitchen gadgets from their grandmother's kitchen decorating the walls, the imported antique lamps from Oregon, etc... the lovely ladies at The American Pie Company put every single detail into consideration to truly make not only their pies, but the actual shop as authentically American as possible. Plus, it's just plain freaking cute in there! :)
Now, onto the pies. I, of course, had to first try their bourbon-pecan pie. Pecan pie is my all-time favorite type of pie. I've read some reviews claiming that it was too sweet... well, I guess, they've never had BAD pecan pie, where the corn-syrup leaves your throat feeling sore. (Yuck). But no, not this pie. It was just the right amount of sweetness and that little hint of bourbon is such a nice compliment. Eating this pie took me back to my hometown. Next, I had the cherry pie. Now, I'm not a huge cherry pie fan but I'd gladly eat this one with no complaints. Lastly, I brought a slice home of the Oreo pie for my husband. And let's just say, we were both left with our mouths agape with how delicious it was. My husband even dared to claim that it was better than anything he'd had back in U.S. (I said those were some fighting words!) But needless to say, my husband is also now a huge fan.
You can really tell that the ladies of The American Pie Company put their heart and soul into this place. They're all so incredibly sweet and friendly as well. I want them to succeed but I also want to be greedy and keep them on the down-low so they don't explode in popularity and then I can't get my pie... But with pies as good as theirs, I can only expect them to become success.
