"The creeper-clad Georgian façade hides a surprisingly stylish hotel. Relax in the atmospheric bar or smart lounges. Individually designed bedrooms offer either classic four-poster luxury or come with funky décor and iPod docks." - Tablet Hotels

Overall the hotel is beautiful, staff very friendly, the decor very nice. Bedroom very nice and also very clean. Just two negative things, first I paid the hire price 490 for a room with a bath in the bedroom and I did not get one of them rooms. Secondly during breakfast looking around when everyone was ordering a English muffin breakfast everybody was getting two on their plate with two poached eggs etc. and when my partners came out it only had one muffin one poached egg on the plate. But when we did mention it to one of the staff they did bring out another muffin but it was plaine without the extra egg etc.

Stayed pre covid and the hotel was looking a bit dated. But since then it has been updated and refurbished. Not lost any of its charm. Food was excellent , the staff were outstandingly friendly and helpful . We had our retired greyhound with us . The hotel is very pet friendly and they even gave her a soft toy to play with. It was lovely to walk out of the hotel with the dog straight over to the abbey gardens in the morning. I can certainly recommend The Angel! We will be back

This is a fabulous place to stay at, right in the centre of Bury and opposite the Abbey Gardens! The service was absolutely excellent, especially upon our arrival, when our luggage was carried into the house and to the room, and the car was parked for us at the rear of the building. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Our room was at the opposite end of the building and required quite a long trip up and down some steps and through long corridors, but I guess this comes with such old buildings. The room itself was cosy, spacious and skilfully decorated, and we slept very well in our beds. I would have preferred a walk-in shower, rather than a bathtub with a shower curtain, which I feel is always a bit of a health hazard, as one needs to step over the rim of the bathtub. Not sure whether all rooms offer the same configuration, or whether other options are available. Breakfast was very nice, with tables that can be freely chosen by the guests, rather than being assigned. The only thing I didn't like so much was the toast, which I felt was too thick and not toasted to a crisp as I would like it. Staff in the breakfast room were friendly, though could have been a bit more attentive. Once they had tended to a table, it seemed difficult to get their attention (some being engaged in conversation with each other and oblivious to the guests at some point). Overall a very nice hotel with superb service, and in an ideal location to explore the city, or to go for walks or runs in the Abbey Gardens opposite the street. Loved it!

Fabulous room (223), extremely well appointed and very comfortable. Our only criticism was the very slippery tiled floor to the walk-in shower - needed textured tiles or a shower mat. Breakfast was superb and more flexible than the menu indicated. Staff throughout were courteous and attentive. Bar was great but the prices were very steep - some 50% more than the pretty expensive hotel in our village in the Peak District. Thanks to all for a good stay.

Can’t fault the staff or the bar, lounge and restaurant area but our classic room was very disappointing. For a 4 star hotel and the price expected to be paid the room was shabby, tired, mouldy grout and peeling paint. The shower was ancient and a flimsy material shower curtain was a real surprise. We were moved after our complaint to a more expensive room (copper room) but even this room was rather underwhelming especially at the price point expected. The bed was tired and uncomfortable and again the place needed a refresh. Window jammed open so couldn’t be shut! No air conditioning either. Plastic fittings was also a bit of a surprise. It could be a lovely hotel with a little investment. The staff were very good and the downstairs setting was lovely. Our friends had a much nicer more modern room in the annexe section of the hotel.

Quirky and full of charm, The Angel Hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Bury St Edmunds. The building is stunning, with nicely furnished rooms and a very comfy bed. Friendly valet parking makes arrival easy, and the bar serves a great choice of cocktails. Our room was a little warm during the summer heatwave, but that’s understandable in such a lovely old building. Would happily stay here again for its character, comfort, and good service.

We stayed here almost exactly a year ago and I'm just getting around to a review. We absolutely adored this hotel. The building was amazing and brimful of delicious history. Staff were kind and accommodating when we requested to move rooms to an air conditioned space. The room (Can't remember the number now) was gorgeous and we both swear it was haunted. We were lying in our bed having a nap when we both heard someone walk through the room. Awesome experience!! The location is perfect for the ruins and surrounding places of interest. Very happy here 😀

Yelp
I've always wished you could do half star reviews on Yelp as I would give this restaurant a 4.5 stars. Everything was just right, the only negative was the waiter was rushed. He did a fine job waiting on our table but we felt like it was always rushed. We had short rib pie, the sea bass & the snapper & they were all excellent. The birthday brownie was complimentary & a nice touch. Their warm bread was outstanding. They have a nice wine list, although being from the states I wasn't familiar with most of their wines. The atmosphere is just right, not too stuffy but does have class. I'd definitely would go again whenever I'm back visiting.

Yelp
Love this place for every reason. The staff are actually the most helpful and delightful than anyone you will ever encounter. The establishment is Classic. Chic ... The food is best around. The 'VERY BEST FISH AND CHIPS' in existence. Always stay here when in the area , which again is becoming often. :). Thanks.

Yelp
We stayed at the Angel Hotel earlier this month for a birthday treat. The staff were lovely and the room was fantastic. Large comfortable, four poster bed, comfy armchairs and huge wardrobe. The room had TV and tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom was spacious and we pampered ourselves with the Nina Campbell products provided. The lounge downstairs is roomy with big comfortable sofas and newspapers. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a delicious meal cooked with locally sourced produce. The whole weekend was a delight!

Yelp
This is a fantastic small town hotel near the town center for shopping and food as well as near local historical landmarks including the Cathedral. Staff: Overall friendly, efficient and fast. Bar staff in the Wingspan bar were particularly friendly, informative and accommodating. Establishment: The location is obviously a little bit older and still has great amenities, charm, historical feel and an inviting ambience. Bar area was fantastic and enhanced when combined with information from the staff if you're interested in the historical aspects. Overall very comfortable room, great staff, and good area for lounging and drinking. Unfortunately I did not have time to try the food.

Yelp
For its level of first class customer service, this is one of the best hotels I have been to. From the minute you step into reception through to checking out, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are amazing, the food is superb. I enjoyed dinner and breakfast here and have to say, some of the best food I have ever eaten. The only downside for me was the room. Whilst comfortable enough, it was very tired looking, very squeaky floorboards, wallpaper comming away from the walls and a very apparent dried out damp patch in the bay window and for £125 I've paid less and got a better room. Apart from that, the food, staff and service all get a five star from me.

Yelp
we live in Colchester so often visit Bury for a day out and when we are there we usually eat in the Angel Restaurant which we have found to be consistently good. The menu is varied and there is never a lack of choice the food itself is cooked to perfection and the waitress service is first class. The ambiance of this stylish restaurant is first class and i recommend this restaurant to all my friends and many of them now agree with me. so to up if ever you are in Bury St Edmunds then give the Angel a try i am sure that you won't be dissapointed

Yelp
Brilliant staff and the food is devine. Have been a few times to the restaurant now and would highly recommend. Think the prices of food is fairly reasonable for a decent restaurant, after all, you get what you pay for. Always had a good night here.
