This is a fabulous place to stay at, right in the centre of Bury and opposite the Abbey Gardens!
The service was absolutely excellent, especially upon our arrival, when our luggage was carried into the house and to the room, and the car was parked for us at the rear of the building. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout.
Our room was at the opposite end of the building and required quite a long trip up and down some steps and through long corridors, but I guess this comes with such old buildings. The room itself was cosy, spacious and skilfully decorated, and we slept very well in our beds. I would have preferred a walk-in shower, rather than a bathtub with a shower curtain, which I feel is always a bit of a health hazard, as one needs to step over the rim of the bathtub. Not sure whether all rooms offer the same configuration, or whether other options are available.
Breakfast was very nice, with tables that can be freely chosen by the guests, rather than being assigned. The only thing I didn't like so much was the toast, which I felt was too thick and not toasted to a crisp as I would like it. Staff in the breakfast room were friendly, though could have been a bit more attentive. Once they had tended to a table, it seemed difficult to get their attention (some being engaged in conversation with each other and oblivious to the guests at some point).
Overall a very nice hotel with superb service, and in an ideal location to explore the city, or to go for walks or runs in the Abbey Gardens opposite the street. Loved it!
