The Angel Hotel

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights over Christmas and paid for the Christmas package, which included dinner and breakfast. We always enjoy staying at the Angel, the staff are excellent, as is the food and service. We were unfortunate this time with the room we were allocated. It was spacious and comfortable but, it had the smallest wardrobe imaginable. My wife managed to put most of her clothes in it but mine had to stay in the suitcase. It seems a little strange because it is placed in a large alcove where a good size wardrobe could be built in. Another problem was the toilet bowl. It would be excellent for a five year old, but for an adult to sit down on it, and stand up again, is a struggle. How someone who is six feet plus manages it, could make a good Monty Python sketch. The final disappointment was the room location. The bottle banks were just opposite, so you can imagine the number of bottles being dumped over the festive period. Then there was the garbage truck stopping right under our window very early in the morning to take on its load. Overall, a wonderful hotel, but I will be more careful with my room selection in future.

There just for one night for our wedding anniversary and so impressed. Every member of staff was courteous, incredibly professional and helpful. The hotel is very well maintained and decorated regularly. The additional festive decorations made it feel even more special. Every chair and sofa was comfortable, the breakfast was tasty with nice portion sizes, the guest lounge had a roaring fire and location for the centre of Bury couldn’t be better. We didn't stay at the Angel, but went for our Boxing day meal in the Vault. The hotel foyer and reception looked festive and beautiful, the welcome was great. Once we went down to the Vault, we were greeted by our friendly and attentive server. (Apologies, no name) The setting in the Vault is wonderful with a fabulous ambience. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food, it was exceptional, especially my main which was a potato terrine with truffle. Probably the nicest meal I've eaten since becoming Vegetarian. Service and food was totally amazing and would highly recommend. What a wonderful Boxing day. Thanks to the staff at the Angel.

We chose the angel hotel for its location more than anything else. It’s in a perfect place close to the shops, restaurants and park, with parking included. The service was very good, with check in and valet parking seamless. The room was very dated, especially with comparing to it’s sister hotel, the Salthouse in Ipswich. Definitely not what you expect for the price of room only. That said we would probably return due to its location but choose a first floor room in the hope they’re better. We don’t eat at the restaurant on this occasion but have done previously, and found the food to be be very good.

One of my favourite places to go to for a coffee! Always treated really nicely by all of the staff! First impressions are extremely important! If you are treated well the first time you’ll likely come back a lot more and I definitely was treated well the first time and every single time I’ve been back! Very relaxed and cosy vibe especially with the fire on. I think the staff are treated well and that’s why the customer service is so good. Manager is very nice as well!

Amazing stay at this beautiful hotel! Living in a nearby town, we often visit Bury St Edmund’s as so many lovely shops and restaurants but wanted to stay the night and enjoy a meal in the restaurant. We were given an incredible room with views of the Abbey, a bronze bath in the bedroom and huge bathroom. We love the decor of the whole hotel. Cosy, classic and stylish. The staff are all so friendly and the meal in the restaurant in the evening was superb! The food was really special and the service very good. Loved the cocktails too. The manager Tom is fantastic, so full of energy and ensuring we had a great stay. We will definitely be back, severally to try one of their supper clubs Supper club evenings soon.

This is a lovely hotel, a mix of modern & historic. Our room was warm, with a massive comfortable bed and a posh bathroom. Service from the valet parking, through check in and for all the meals & drinks was exemplary. Food was delicious & plentiful, drinks were excellent from local ales to fancy cocktails. Couldn't fault it really.|There are bargain prices available too if you are lucky with your dates!

First up the basics. Bed excellent. Shower one of the best I've come across. Location: centre of the town close to the abbey gardens, lots of restaurants and shops. Staff all excellent and plenty of them always on hand. Breakfast really good. Good array of options. Whenever I stay at a hotel I always worry that if I eat in the hotel restaurant I'll find myself one of a small number residents eating in with ok but basic food. The Angel couldn't be further from the truth, by 6pm on a Tuesday night in November this place was buzzing, it was the same every night we were there. Great food, wine and service. I'd eat here whether I was staying in the hotel or not. Recommend that you book well in advance of your trip. So it's a definite thumbs up from me for a stay at the Angel.

I've always wished you could do half star reviews on Yelp as I would give this restaurant a 4.5 stars. Everything was just right, the only negative was the waiter was rushed. He did a fine job waiting on our table but we felt like it was always rushed. We had short rib pie, the sea bass & the snapper & they were all excellent. The birthday brownie was complimentary & a nice touch. Their warm bread was outstanding. They have a nice wine list, although being from the states I wasn't familiar with most of their wines. The atmosphere is just right, not too stuffy but does have class. I'd definitely would go again whenever I'm back visiting.

Love this place for every reason. The staff are actually the most helpful and delightful than anyone you will ever encounter. The establishment is Classic. Chic ... The food is best around. The 'VERY BEST FISH AND CHIPS' in existence. Always stay here when in the area , which again is becoming often. :). Thanks.

We stayed at the Angel Hotel earlier this month for a birthday treat. The staff were lovely and the room was fantastic. Large comfortable, four poster bed, comfy armchairs and huge wardrobe. The room had TV and tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom was spacious and we pampered ourselves with the Nina Campbell products provided. The lounge downstairs is roomy with big comfortable sofas and newspapers. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a delicious meal cooked with locally sourced produce. The whole weekend was a delight!

This is a fantastic small town hotel near the town center for shopping and food as well as near local historical landmarks including the Cathedral. Staff: Overall friendly, efficient and fast. Bar staff in the Wingspan bar were particularly friendly, informative and accommodating. Establishment: The location is obviously a little bit older and still has great amenities, charm, historical feel and an inviting ambience. Bar area was fantastic and enhanced when combined with information from the staff if you're interested in the historical aspects. Overall very comfortable room, great staff, and good area for lounging and drinking. Unfortunately I did not have time to try the food.

For its level of first class customer service, this is one of the best hotels I have been to. From the minute you step into reception through to checking out, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are amazing, the food is superb. I enjoyed dinner and breakfast here and have to say, some of the best food I have ever eaten. The only downside for me was the room. Whilst comfortable enough, it was very tired looking, very squeaky floorboards, wallpaper comming away from the walls and a very apparent dried out damp patch in the bay window and for £125 I've paid less and got a better room. Apart from that, the food, staff and service all get a five star from me.

we live in Colchester so often visit Bury for a day out and when we are there we usually eat in the Angel Restaurant which we have found to be consistently good. The menu is varied and there is never a lack of choice the food itself is cooked to perfection and the waitress service is first class. The ambiance of this stylish restaurant is first class and i recommend this restaurant to all my friends and many of them now agree with me. so to up if ever you are in Bury St Edmunds then give the Angel a try i am sure that you won't be dissapointed

Brilliant staff and the food is devine. Have been a few times to the restaurant now and would highly recommend. Think the prices of food is fairly reasonable for a decent restaurant, after all, you get what you pay for. Always had a good night here.
