Went in for a couple of drinks last week and some small plates of food. First time in, prices were reasonable. Good selection of draught and all other drinks etc. Decor is really good with the famous Scottish folk, atmosphere is cosy and the young woman “Megan” who served us was on the ball. As the wife said to her she was putting a shift in. Knew how to speak to folk and great personality. Definitely be in by again on our next visit down south. Have to look at your rooms too as the hotel we did stay in was ……not to be repeated lol

We stayed here just before the start of December. Our room was lovely and had a Dyson fan heater which was fab otherwise it would have been a bit chilly. Staff are really friendly too. The only thing that disappointed us was that there wasn’t a separate bar for hotel guests so in an evening you didn’t have your own space it was just a normal bar it would have been really nice if guests had their own bar space with guaranteed seats.

Had a 3 night stay mid December. Perfect location for airport (tram) and train access and most of the usual tourist spots which you can easily walk to. Hotel rooms were comfortable and well equipped. Could have done with some coat hooks! Breakfast was ok but was expensive if you didn't have it included in your hotel stay. The bar area and hotel lounge were very busy when we were there due to it being the Christmas period. Overall I would recommend if you're looking for a well located nice hotel in Edinburgh.

We visited today for the Sunday roast after seeing positive online reviews. There were six of us, including a highchair. Although the restaurant wasn’t busy, we were seated in the hotel reception area rather than the main dining space.||It took over 25 minutes and two reminders before anyone came to take our order. When a waitress eventually arrived, her attitude was very unwelcoming and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Getting a second round of drinks was also unnecessarily difficult.||When the food arrived, both children’s meals were incorrect. We had ordered two turkey roasts, but one arrived as beef and the other was completely burnt. After sending them back (met with eye-rolling), the plates returned still poorly prepared. One child’s meal included a burnt Yorkshire pudding and the same dry turkey, while the other had different accompaniments and burnt vegetables. When we raised this again, the response was indifferent. We were told there were no Yorkshire puddings left, so the children had to settle for chips.||The adult meals were enjoyable overall, though the Yorkshire puddings were also burnt.||When another staff member cleared our plates and asked how the meal was, we were honest about our experience. She apologised but then walked away, clearly unsure how to handle feedback. A service charge was added to the bill, which felt disappointing given the level of service, we would normally leave a tip if the experience warranted it.||We have stayed here several times before and eaten here previously, but based on this visit, we are unlikely to return. A very disappointing experience overall.

Extremely slow service, mediocre food for the price, incompetent staff, a disappointing experience. ||My friends and I organized a Christmas lunch for Sunday the 21st of December 2025; a rare occasion in which we could all be together. Our food took over 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive!! Other tables that had arrived after us had been served before us. I had to chase the order twice before the manager went into the kitchen to find our food had been sat there for who knows how long. Nonetheless, they served it to us, most of which was cold. I sent my burger back because, for 20 pounds, it was gravely underwhelming and cold. Someone was given the wrong order and had to wait - again - for another main. The table also took forever to be cleared and trying to order drinks was unnecessarily difficult. I voiced my dissatisfaction to the manager who offered 25% discount and drinks off the bill. The bill arrived with drinks still on it... I had to chase this again until ultimately we got 20% off and the drinks were removed from the bill. Laughably, a service charge still applied. ||If staff are not capable of handling multiple festive reservations in a day then they shouldn't take the bookings. ||Overall, disappointing and I wouldn't recommend.

I made a reservation 1 month ago for our Christmas Eve, which we celebrate on the 24th and on the day of my reservation which was at 6pm they sent me an email at 4:42pm informing me the kitchen closes at 6pm. |I could not believe it so i went at 6pm and they confirmed the kitchen was closed. |This was a terrible experience as I wanted a special meal for my family and they knew they would not provide the service and inly let me know an hour before my reservation, not allowing me to rearrange another place to eat! |They only provided a recommendation on other places to eat…., this was not the Christmas celebration i had organised, really poor form from them.

The hotel is a nice one in a fantastic location within easy walking distance of most of the neighborhoods and attractions you'd want to see. The staff was friendly, there's an elevator to easily get your bags up to the higher floors, and it was very convenient to have a restaurant on-site for easy breakfasts and/or quick dinners. The food was good, too. My one-bed room wasn't expansive, but it was enough space for my needs. There wasn't AC ... It was cool enough when I was there that I didn't really need it, but there was a Dyson fan in the room to help cool it if needed, and the window opened. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed was comfortable, good pressure in the shower, all that stuff. It was also pretty neat that every room was named after a notable Scottish person. I wasn't bothered by any noise at night when I was trying to sleep, even though the restaurant/bar did seem fairly busy and had live music on the weekends.

Google
Stayed at the hotel and had many meals and drinks, always fabulous. Absolutely dreadful today, starter was not as ordered, had to ask staff for side plates and cutlery. Service was terrible, staff were totally disinterested, the very nice manager cancelled the bill. A very different experience from usual and one I hope will not be repeated . Very disappointed as I had recommended to the friends who were with us . Standards have massively dropped.

Yelp
Hotel room was very nice and the staff where friendly and polite... breakfast for £15 was way overpriced for what little you get.... Orange Juice was disgusting obviously some rubbish out of a carton. A small half piece of bacon and scrambled egg square sausage and black pudding small portion of beans of which I had to pull a long hair out of my mouth not seeing this in the mouthful of beans... a little butter for toast that covered half the plate and it was not spreadable because it was fluid when opened... a potato scone that no one bothered to put in a frying pan. I paid £165 for a good night at Angel Share and was hoping to leave happy, rested and content after a good weekend breakfast... but because of that experience I left depressed and still hungry and knowing I would not order breakfast or food in there again.

Yelp
Just got back from a 4 day stay at angels share hotel. I was not impressed for a property that is advertised as "4 star". Our room was essentially a walk up given that the elevator barely worked, the bed had a big sag in it, the toilet in the bathroom was so loose every time you used it it felt like it would break. We did get daily maid service which was nice. there was never anyone at the front desk to help with anything - you had to go in the bar each time you needed something and speaking of the bar... even as hotel guests they hawk you like you are going to walk out on a tab and make you pay for drinks every round. Staff is the most minimalist of nice and the whole vibe of the place is just awkward. Food was generally ok and their coffees were good. Excellent location but all in all, pretty sure I wouldn't stay again.

Yelp
I was blown away by my experience at Angels Share Hotel. Planning a trip from the US to a place I've never been before was a bit of a challenge, but as soon as I saw photos of Angel's Share I knew I had to stay there. Just a bit of trivia, I had know idea what "Angel's Share" meant until I went on a scotch tasting tour. The Angel's Share is the bit of scotch that disappears during its aging process, or if a bottle has been sitting for a long time, some may disappear. That is the bit of scotch that the angels have taken for themselves. So it's such a cute name for a Scottish hotel! I am absolutely obsessed with boutique hotels now. The theming was everything, with every room showing off a famous Scot. The service was so friendly from the moment I booked them. Molly helped me over the phone and via email, and she was so accommodating as we added and removed guests (one guest had to cancel his entire trip last minute because of health reasons) from our wedding group. She really went above and beyond! They were willing to match the price I found on a travel website, because I would always prefer to book directly and give my money to the business rather than a travel company. Make sure to book ASAP because they only have a limited number of rooms. When we arrived they had upgraded us to a bigger room since we were in Scotland for our wedding. The look of the restaurant and bar alone impressed me.. it was such a beautiful atmosphere. Then the room was even more fantastic. Equipped with beautiful furniture, all of the amenities and snacks, and of course- a portrait of a shirtless, kilted Ewan McGregor (lol!) the room was just everything we could have hoped for. My bridesmaids had plenty of space to throw up some fun Harry Potter decorations before we went out for my bachelorette dinner as well. Service in the bar was wonderful, all the food and drink was yummy! We enjoyed drinks and breakfast here a few times. The chandeliers are beautiful. We didn't notice any noise from downstairs in our room either. I can't wait to visit Scotland again. If you are planning a trip, make sure you spend 3+ days in Edinburgh. It is an absolutely jaw-dropping city, and is now my favorite city in the world... I wish we had spent more than 2 days to be able to see everything. Angels share a bit of a walk from the train station, but we made the trek in the rain and it wasn't too bad. It is walking distance to Edinburgh Castle, and surrounded by some really incredible pubs and restaurants on Rose St. It really doesn't get any better. Service, atmosphere, central location... what else could you ask for?

Yelp
Stayed in Angels Share last August - the service was phenomenal. We drove from Louisville,Kentucky to Chicago. Then we flew to Dublin. From Dublin to Edinburgh and then took a bus to get to this hotel I booked on a whim. We had the unfortunate problem of arriving 5 hours early after being awake from travel for at least 24 hours. After explaining our situation to the wonderful lady at the front desk (knowing there's probably not much she could do about it) she said she would work really hard on getting us in early and then gave us a free coffee (desperately needed). As luck (and some moving things around i imagine) would have it, we got in two hours later ( and in Ewan mcgregors room! Score!) Let me tell you, after all of that travel I slept better in that room than I would have in Ewans own arms. Everyone was super kind and friendly. The breakfast was delightful and if I find myself In Edinburgh again I won't even bother staying anywhere else.

Yelp
Asked the Concierge at the Waldorf/Caledonia for a recommendation. When he suggested Angel's Share, I was reluctant thinking he might be leading me to a local 'tourist trap'. However, I went ahead on my adventure. Lunch special offered for $12 BPS/2 entrees! Terrific value. As a single female, I'm quite cautious of venues that might be for 'the tourists' - this is not it. My waiter was a bit stand-offish and rather perfunctory, but he carried out his tasks.

Yelp
I'm kinda sick of "trendy", "hip", "edgy" bars...since they infest every corner of NYC. But...this spot is quite dope....empirically. And the patrons are totally different from the banal detritus found in NYC lounges. Smooth cocktails and great atmosphere. Hit it.

Yelp
Great hotel! So close to everything, modern but surrounded by history. Genuinely nice folks at check in, drinks in the bar were spot on, room service was fast and delicious. Lovely place to spend a holiday. Either cozy up by the fire in the front room, or sit in a well stocked bar. Very near the Charlotte square bus stop.

Yelp
I thought I'd update my review of Angel's Share as I popped in last night for some drinkies and ended up staggering out after having 2 bottles of wine (shared)!! A bottle of wine for a tenner Mon to Thurs - do it! Really good value. And... as i was rather tipsy I decided to go for the steak burger & cheese which was lovely. A warning for anyone like me who doesn't like sauce though - it was smothered in tomato sauce (or relish they called it). The waiter who came over to check how I was enjoying the food could see I was struggling with the sauce - I just really hate tomato sauce & i don't understand why they wouldn't put this on the side as an option?!? Anyway he insisted on changing it for me which was nice as there wasn't anything technically wrong with the burger. Apparently it says it comes with relish on the menu but I honestly hadn't expected it to come IN the burger already. Small issue though as they fixed it. Home-made fries were hot & salty - yum Burger was home-made, crumbly and cooked to perfection Onion Rings were surprisingly light with a tempura batter The brioche roll was a nice touch, kind of looked like a bagel without a hole and the sweetness and softness of the bread worked really well (much better than a ciabatta roll which is very heavy and filling). Would go back for more food!

Yelp
The positives of this hotel: 1. Good location 2. Modern and stylish 3. Great restaurant with fantastic deals on steaks on Tuesdays The not-so Good: 1. There was a very unfriendly manager fill in while we were there. Had a very matter-of-fact attitude 2. The bathroom soaps/shampoo/lotions smelled very musky obviously tailored more towards men than woman 3. The layout was a bit strange and not functional. Also, they lock the doors at night so we had to knock and wait for someone to open the door to let us in. Overall, our stay was mediocre.

Yelp
I've read some mixed reviews about this place so I wanted to try it for myself. K & I decided to try their lunch offer. 2 course lunch & a cocktail for £15 through 5pm.co.uk. We both had the pink gin fizz cocktail which was lovely. It was a generous serving in a tall glass with fresh raspberries muddled through it. So good we ordered a second! Food wise, I had the mussels in a Bloody Mary sauce to start. It was a generous serving of very plump mussels with some crusty bread to mop up the sauce. K had the bruschetta. It was a generous portion too & we scoffed the lot. For main I tried the salmon served with herb couscous & K had the chicken stuffed with haggis. Both portions were a decent size & full of flavour. I'd definitely go back. The service was good too. We were through in the restaurant rather than the bar area so next time I'll try the bar & see how it compares.

Yelp
This bar/restaurant/hotel is in a great location just off the West end of Princes Street. I visited a few times when it was The Hudson and it was OK but in desperate need of a refurb and a good clean. I went to the opening night of the Angels Share a few months ago and was very impressed with what I saw. It looks lovely inside now and I got to try a few canapés that definitely left me wanting more. So last week I returned and took my auntie there as she was visiting Edinburgh and I met her on my lunch break. It was pretty quiet but the staff were very lovely and friendly. I chose the macaroni cheese with salted beef and it was absolutely delicious. Served in the wee pot it was cooked in was torture as I had to wait for it to cool down a bit. The cheese sauce was delicious and very, very rich. There were little chunks of salted beef throughout the dish and this was cooked to perfection. I couldn't fault the dish. Now I just can't wait to go back and try something else!

Yelp
Concierge at Walforf recommended for lunch. I was a bit unenthusiastic as it was so close, assuming it would be touristy. As they had a special 2 course lunch for 10 quid, thoughts of the turistica menus in Rome came to mind. Nothing could have been further from the case. Food was excellent. Had fof starters a lentil/bean soup and a smoked mackeral salad. Entrees of fish cakes and broiled chicken breast over hagis/mashed potatoes were superb. Atomsphere is very relaxed with great decor. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
The kitchen is open late...food is fabulous! Try the beetroot salad!! Beer is good ... and it's Nice and cozy and they play a great next to music ...

Yelp
Absolute highlight of my trip, great accommodations, friendly staff and an excellent pub attached to the establishment.

Yelp
Just got home after spending a weekend at the Fringe. We stayed at Angels Share and loved it. Staff were really friendly and the room (Jack Vetriani) was great. It was walkable to everywhere we went, and only 20 mins from Waverley; trams run past the end of the road. Definitely stay again!!!

Yelp
I was lucky enough to head along to one of the "launch" parties of this new bar. I like the layout and the decor, it's a pretty upmarket place but out of the way enough that I hope the riff raff will be kept out. I mostly had several glasses of wine to drink and the house red pretty solid all told. I was impressed. I also tried several shots of cocktails including one with popping candy and one black russian style one. We also had a Charlie Chaplain one in a tea cup which was quite quaint! I didn't spot that many good beers so might stick to wine for the moment when I'm there. Food wise they had herring so they obviously have excellent taste. The burgers looked good and I'll have to come back and have a go at the menu. They seemingly have a speakeasy style club downstairs which is only accessable if you know the password - this might make it slightly awesome..... Or just full of dickheads. I guess I'll have to go find out!

Yelp
Came here for a drink and was nice escape from all the noise and crowds. Really great cocktails and cute decor. Would recommend for drink. Didn't try the food so can't comment on that

Yelp
What a big disappointment...hotel recommended and confirmed reservation for booth seat. We showed up and they had no reservation and no booths. Even argued with us as to whether we had a reservation and said the don't reserve tables. Life is too short to deal with bad customer service. We took our business elsewhere and we encourage others to go to places care about their customers.

Yelp
Amazing Food! Amazing recommendations for local whiskey, Amazing service! Great Live music and a casual ambiance!!! A must visit while in Edinburgh, Scotland
google avatar

Lindsay O.

Yelp
I loved this place when it was the Hudson and I was so intrigued to see what had been done to it with the new Angels Share. The décor is opulent and it really has a nice vibe to it. I was here for afternoon tea and was using a voucher site deal to get it at a better cost. my pre-arranged veggie option sandwiches didn't arrive but the chef quickly made some up for me. They were the best part of it as the scones were dry and seemed like yesterdays batch and there was no choice of tea menu, just English breakfast. The afternoon tea came with a cocktail which was beautiful.

Yelp
Just got here on a whim tonight after having "hopped" to a few places. Two standout items on the menu are their mac and cheese and the haggis stuffed mushrooms (yes, believe it or not)!! There were 4 other things we wanted to try (venison, pork belly, fish and chips!) but just didn't have the room. Live music playing and dim lights make this a super comfy place to just hang with your bestie or hubby. Now for dessert? Me thinks an espresso martini is in order!
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Are Chandeliers too much? I don't know, you can make the call on that one, came here after Sunday Lunch at Kyloe and thought it was a place I could drink for a while. The décor is pretty cool, hunners of photos of famous scots from Fergie to Hoy to Macgregor, it's a homage to the good and the great of Scotland. Large leather couches, and very high bar stools. Those of you who know me, know I love a good bar stool, and even better I love a good bar. This is a nice long bar counter, copper or steel, I can't remember, but it's well polished, ergo very very shiny. They have an impressive back bar as well, one I would enjoy working my way round. The service was what made this a memorable experience there was a very hyper young girl who was eager to keep us hydrated, and my Dad enjoyed the fact that she could make the dark rum and coke almost as quickly as he could drink them - we paid for that later on!! This is a great spot for some quality drinks with good company.

Yelp
I was slighly dubious about this change from the Hudson Wine Bar as I never really thought their was anything wrong with it as it was! However i have to give it 10/10 on making the New Angels Share a success! Serve cannot be faulted and the last time we were there ( during the busy festival) we got a seat relatively easy and serve was faultless. The set lunch menu was tasty x Cocktail are great, although i do think they could have a few more on the drinks menu to choose from and i love the chandilers! A fab place for drinks with friends or a yummy lunch. Great location too, Well Done !

Yelp
after a night of way too many drinks, including a brief dance at Harry's Bar, my co-workers and i ended up at the Angels Share bar. it was a snap decision as we were all in heels and wanted to go to the closest bar that served relatively reasonably priced good drinks. that said though, i'd been keen to try this place for ages so glad that i did finally get a chance to go! the decor in this bar is very swish. it's like walking into a proper posh men's club that you'd fine in manhattan. chandeliers and leather seats, dark lighting, and a massive dark wood bar with loads of spirits on the shelves behind. there is also a club underneath which we did try to go to, but was incredibly quiet for a friday night. we were told it was turning into a jazz club at midnight, but considering the lack of people we weren't convinced. that said though, we decided to grab our last drink here and grabbed one of the massive circular booths to sit down. i finally got a chance to order a cocktail as these were well priced and had a pink gin fizz. it came in a massive glass with mint garish and a truly lovely pink colour. it was lovely to drink and a nice way to end the night. i feel a bit bad giving this place three stars as i feel like there is a lot of potential here, but i just didn't see it at the end of my friday night. i will make a point to go back though as this seems like the place to go and grab a pre-dinner drink when you're dressed up to go somewhere nice.

Yelp
So found myself having dinner here last night and you know what it was pretty good. To be fair I didn't have high expectations but yeah for what it is it was really good. With some friends we shared the sharing platter that came with chicken wings, calamari and chorizo! All tasty and plentiful. For main I went for the chicken burger, the chips were a bit sparse but tasty as were the onion rings. The burger was a full filet with a nice seasoning and mozzarella. It was good!! A surprise twist to the evening was the great live band that came on! Great tunes which lead to a bit of dancing. All in all a surprisingly good meal at a very fair price. The Angels Shares has earned the right to be called JD Recommended.

Yelp
This place was gorgeous! I loved the giant photo of David Tennant over my bed ;) The staff was so warm and welcoming. My room had a balcony with beautiful french style doors. I'm so glad I called this place home for 3 days while I toured around the city.

Yelp
Angel's Share is a term that refers to that small percentage of whisky that evaporates during barrel aging. This joint isn't necessarily a whisky bar in appearance but it's still a fine place to hang out and they're open for breakfast. Atmosphere is on the glam side with crystal chandeliers and Parisian looking decor. An interesting atmo to have breakfast in, but we did and it was quite nice. Their vegetarian full English breakfast is a good deal and delicious. Never seen veggie sausage made of carrots and zucchini before and this was deep fried... Delish! If you're staying at the Caledonian (aka the Cally) instead of paying $50 for breakfast, try Angels Share just across the street.

Yelp
Great modern and stylish bar, great/friendly staff, amazing cocktails ..... and we were quite surprised to find that the 2 courses for £10 menu was .... Deliciously tasty ..... Ended up spending most of the evening here with friends, feeling really comfortable and relaxed ...... Recommended 100% xx

Yelp
This is a conveniently located hotel with friendly staff and lovely rooms. The public house attached has delicious meals.

Yelp
Came here for our first meal out in Edinburgh. It was a Friday night, Happy hour was flowing and the staff somehow managed to seat 7 of us who just walked in off the street! Inside and outside the restaurant was absolutely beautiful and I'd of loved to of spent the night here, unfortunately couple of the girls we were with didn't drink and wanted to go elsewhere (back to the hotel -_-) The food was great quality and decently priced as with the drinks!! There was such a wide selection for both it really did take some time to decide what I wanted!!

Yelp
My partner and I stumbled upon this gem of a place. The staff were very attentive and quite happy to help with anything. I had the haggis and beef sausage... omg they were amazing!!!! I can't wait to come back

Yelp
Serious communication issue!!! After kitchen closed was told we could bring in food and relax with drinks!!!! Well completely wrong and when confirmed by several employees and we told them we actually were staying here....worse attitude!!! One employee said NO problem so we purchased with money fries only to be told NO!!!! Be aware!!!!!!!!!! After spending 2000 pounds, YES POUNDS in rooms treated like homeless people!!!!!!

Holly H.

Yelp
Love this cozy little place! We sought this place out on out trip to Edinburgh on the advice of family and were not disappointed. We sat in comfy overstuffed chairs near the fire and enjoyed a delicious meal away from the noise and bustle of the adjoining bar. Everything we ordered was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Mac and cheese. We will be returning to Edinburgh AND Angels Share.

Yelp
Lovely decor, decent wine, and a live band on a Friday night playing a pretty good selection of tunes. A few hours can pass by fairly quickly here.

Doug S.

Yelp
Great location, stylish and comfortable rooms and attentive (but not overbearing) service. I was concerned with the noise level, being so close to the city center, but the room was quiet. Restaurant and bar downstairs are welcoming and fun. I'll be back!

Harshpal S.

Yelp
This is a very nicely done pub in edinburgh. I had a Portobello mushroom burger and my wife had the salmon appetizer. My daughter had the bangers and mash. All the food was excellently prepared & the specualty cocktails were also delicious. Definitely a must do when you visit Edinburgh.

M J.

Yelp
I was here two weeks ago for their Tuesday night stake deal. It was lovely. Two ribeye stakes and a bottle of wine for £45. I don't usual have dissert when out but these looked too good to miss and they didn't Dissapoint! The dram and choc mouse was Fabby a must try when you go :)

Jessica H.

Yelp
I am so glad we met a friend for drinks here on our first night in Edinburgh because it gave us a chance to come back. It's that good. I entered a euphoric state eating the mac and cheese and the salmon was delicious as well. The rocket and parmesan salad is another winner. This place is a must-go!

Cathy H.

Yelp
A delightful place on the edge of New Town. Easy walking distance to everything in Edinburgh. Recently renovated and the rooms are ideal. The bus from the airport drops you off across the street and picks you up at the corner. Perfect. The rooms were clean and decorated with British Actor themes. Bed was ultra comfy. Bathroom was brand new and very modern. Internet was crucial and this hotel had it. Very charming staff that took care of our every need. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Edinburgh. It was awesome!
