15 Best Luxury & Boutique Hotels in Toronto to Book - AFAR

"Housed in a former apartment and once a flophouse, this minimalist boutique hotel offers condo-sized suites (the largest is about 550 sq ft) with exposed brick, wood floors, and plush king beds, striking a balance between downtown grit and refined comfort. Music plays a role in the stay—rooms come with turntables and guests can borrow vinyl from a curated front-desk collection—and the lobby restaurant Constantine has garnered local foodie acclaim (try the lamb burger with whipped feta). The building also hosts neighborhood favorites like a popular barbershop and a small coffee spot with street-facing window seats." - Michael Kaminer

The Anndore House

"Take us inside the Anndore. As its name suggests, this hotel aims to make you feel at home—which makes sense, given the 10-story brick building’s former life as an apartment tower in an area that was once, as the Anndore proudly acknowledges, "shady." Relaunched in 2018 as a 113-room hotel, and boasting what's now a great location—close to upscale Yorkville, the Bloor Street museums, the Yonge Street shops, arts venues, and more—the hotel has a dimly lit lobby with moody greens and purples, dark woods, and glam gold-framed art. Past the kitchen island–style reception desk—another nod to residential living—lies a sexy bar bedecked in velvet and wood paneling. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Sophisticated travelers who gravitate toward low-key luxury, plus area residents drawn to the restaurant, lounge, and barber shop. After a long day of travel, how quickly are you able to get up to your room?Checking in is a casual, personable, and efficient affair. The situation upstairs is just as seamless because everything—unlocking your room, working the TV, changing the lighting and temperature, and accessing hotel services—can be controlled directly from your phone via the Anndore House app. Translation: no need to fiddle with confusing panels or remote controls. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The serene, chic décor toes the line between industrial and retro: polished concrete floors, a palette of grays and blues, king-sized beds, cushy leather club chairs, large plasma TVs, and a bookshelf topped with LPs and an iPhone-compatible record player. Some rooms have skyline views; others look out onto a courtyard. Spacious bathrooms have rainfall showers and CO Bigelow products. It's time for a quick snack, and a check of the email. What's the word? There's no mini bar; there is, however, a small fridge and a coffee/tea machine. The wifi is free. Okay, no mini bar. Provided we want to leave the room, what are the other dining option?Constantine, the hotel's full restaurant, offers Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes—eggplant caponata pizza, pumpkin kibbeh, lamb burgers, duck kofte, and meze platters—plus a family-style tasting menu ($65). For a convenient coffee or pastry, the Scarlet Door, the lobby café, pays homage to the area’s scandalous and edgy past with its logo: a courtesan holding a Fender guitar. What's available on the wellness front? There’s an onsite barber shop but no gym—guests can access the fitness center and book massages at the KX Clinic Yorkville. And there's both a human and a virtual concierge—in addition to all of its other functions, the Anndore House app offers tips, event listings, and restaurant suggestions. Bottom line: why the Anndore?Live the high life at this residential-style Yonge Street sanctuary." - Sandra Ramani

We stayed here for Toronto Pride and its a perfect hotel! Just blocks away from the Pride festival and right on the parade route. The hotel is clean and modern and hip. The room is cozy and tidy. The lounge is lovely with a great selection of drinks and amazing food. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I can't wait to come back.

This is a hidden gem! I didn't expect to see a boutique hotel like this in Toronto. The room is really spacious and designed with cool elements. It even has its own vinyl player. The TV has tons of options. The washroom looks elegant. They have carefully selected all the details. I loved my stay here. Highly recommended.

We have stayed at the Anndore House last week, while attending a wedding in town. It was a very pleasant experience at a king bed loft (it really is well depicted at their website). The room is silent (3rd floor), and neat. The staff was efficient, and kind when we interacted. And the hotel is quite well located, as many services are available. I loved the amenities (which actually I want to buy for my spouse, as she liked it too).

The room was lovely and spacious. Bed and linens very comfortable and clean. The windows opened and had small screens for fresh air which was a plus. The staff was friendly and courteous. Joey and another gentle at the front desk especially. I'd like to see the hotel offer better dining options. The selection on the dinner menu was limited and quite "foreign" (no pun intended) so we didn't eat. Also, the coffee offering in the room was instant coffee! Not what I'd expect from a high-end "Hyatt" hotel. There is no outdoor signage for the hotel so we had travelled around the block several times trying to locate it and finally had to call the front desk. A nice hotel worker came outdoors and flagged us down. The bell men were nice, but did not offer to help us two women with our luggage. It was raining and they watched as we struggled getting our bags out of our car trunk. The location is convenient, Yonge Street is right there so if you can overlook the aforementioned, go for it.

4.5 Stars for me. The service is really good from the housekeeping staff to front desk and restaurant. All friendly, helpful and nice. The location is great, close to everything including public transit, there’s a parking lot right across from the street that has fair rates. The price was great as well, 175 for what I’ve paid is well worth it for the room, location and service. Hotel itself is trendy, stylish with its loft rooms while maintaining great standards of cleanliness and amenities. Two things that I have complaints about that made me give 4.5 stars are 1. Air conditioning were the older style hang by the window type, they are really loud. 2. Not sure if this is just my room but the shower’s pressure was pretty bad, the handheld shower head was not usable due to how low the pressure was.

I really enjoyed staying here. It was a little difficult to find, down a one way street, in the dark with rain, but if that's the hardest part of staying here...then everything is good! The room was nice, clean, and spacious. Not like a regular hotel room where you have one chair for someone to awkwardly hang out in while everyone else has to sit on the bed. I really enjoyed the style, as it gave me a 1920's NY apartment feel. The bed was the comfiest hotel bed I've ever slept on. You're close to everything you could need, and a 20 minute walk to the Eaton Centre. There's a large parking lot directly across the street where you can park for a very reasonable rate (for Toronto). Every member of staff I interacted with were warm and friendly, and I'll definitely be staying here again.

My husband and I had a great stay at Anndore House Toronto. Excellent service starting with the friendly, professional valet staff who helped us with our bags at arrival. The exceptional treatment continued at the front desk who kindly upgraded our room as Hyatt members. Room was very cool, edgy design yet homey details. Bed was very comfortable. Location is great for touring downtown Toronto. We attended a concert at The Concert Hall, which was a short walk away. Some great conveniences at Anndore House, Barber Shop on site, as well as a grab and go coffee shop with great cappuccino and pastries. Friendly Bar and Restaurant staff serving quality food with an extensive bar selection of finer whiskey that we appreciated. Will stay here again when visiting Toronto.

Nice boutique hotel experience near the University, Yorkville and other sites in Toronto. Small but clean rooms. Not enough space to spread out if you were planning to spend time in your room but good for sleeping and resting. Clean and pleasant staff on site.
