Where to Stay in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"A simple but clean option, The Arcade Hotel provides large TVs and free Wi‑Fi, and — since it’s a video game–themed hotel — all rooms include a game console, making it a fun and inexpensive place to stay." - Matthew Kepnes

I did a quick two day stay here and I was satisfied. The staff was great and so helpful. Specifically the daytime front desk guy (black) hair. The room is small with no AC but served its purpose which for me was only sleeping. I did slip a few times in the shower because it is extremely slippery. As small as the shower is a mat is needed. Nice neighborhood and I loved that I was able to rent a bike at the hotel as my mode of transportation.

Staff members are on top. Everyone speaks perfect english and is able to help with all aspects of your holiday. Receptionist gave us a drink on a very hot day while we were checking in, which we really enjoyed. They also helped with bike rentals and when the bikes occurred a bit rusty had no problem with exchanging it. ||Rooms, windows and bathrooms are quite smaller than you would expect, but it’s okay for a short visit. Beds are comfy and everything is clean. However, it can get very hot in the rooms and ceiling fan doesn’t really help. The TV is great, it is Smart so you can watch whatever you want. The wifi in the rooms works well and fast. However, keep in mind that you can hear your neighbours very clearly , which can affect your sleep.||The location is good as well. If you like to walk or bike everything is quite close and it’s way calmer and not so loud as city centre. ||To conclude I enjoyed the stay, and staff members are the highlight of the hotel.

The hotel is changing to a Boutique Hotel. Stairs were very steep but there is a lift. The rooms were clean and tidy and we're cleaned each day. Like the area opposite the park. Plenty of coffee places within walking distance. Would certainly go back again.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay here. Our room was decent, clean, and large enough for the 3 of us. There is a large arcade space in the lobby which was fun to use as we passed in and out of the hotel. They have a small kitchen that serves drinks and light breakfast in the morning. Breakfast must be ordered ahead if time and only includes pastries, yogurt ect. Beautiful garden area to sit and enjoy. We often sat and chatted with the manager/owner (not sure) at the bar on our way in from a full day. He was great to converse with and so nice. The location is within walking distance of most everything. Very clean and safe area.

We loved our stay at De Pijp Boutique Hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. We found the location to be great, it's a lovely neighborhood, and we mostly used the tram system to get around.

Loved the neighbourhood, so much more chill than staying directly in Amsterdam central - walkable to local spots, with a bit more of Dutch feel - far less touristy in De Pijp - a really cool neighbourhood. ||||We loved the uniqueness of the hotel - so much better than your average run-of-the-mill boutique hotel, has so much personality and was made to feel very welcomed. Hotel rooms are super modern and clean. Bar and outside area was a bonus - nice to have a few beers at the end of a long day spent walking around the city. Thanks for an excellent stay!

I stayed in the arcade hotel with friends for 3 nights. We arrived 45 minutes earlier than check in time and they were able to accommodate to it. The staff were very friendly and asked us if we had any questions to come to them. We had a room of four with bunk beds. The room was very spacious and a decent bathroom too. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spotless clean. The cleaners came in twice and gave us clean towels aswell. Great location as it’s located beside the park and not too noisy and metro that goes straight into city centre. Also a lot to do around area where we stayed you could not get bored. Only down side was that there was no air con and that day it was 30 degrees so it was hard to sleep but apart from that had a great experience and would definitely return and recommend if wanting a place to sleep

Good location, overlooking a park, and not too far from the De PijP underground (for easy connection to Amsterdam-Zuid and Amsterdam-Nord railways stations) and walkable to the Rijksmuseum (circa 22 minutes). Continental breakfast (in a bag) was satisfactory (coffee was readily available from the bar) and the staff were very helpful. I stayed for three nights in a single room; which was small, as was the bed. On leaving there was a room for leaving luggage. I didn't try any games, just used the hotel as a base.

Yelp
What an awesome find in the adorable De Pijp neighborhood! We were coming to Amsterdam from Germany for my bday weekend and my friend had recommended this neighborhood. I literally just tooled around on Google Maps and happened to find this hotel. As soon as I saw the website, we were sold and I booked the last remaining L&L room for that weekend! Located in De Pijp, it was very easy to get to from Centraal station. Hotel is across the street from a big park with lots of cute shops and restaurants nearby. Lobby was super welcoming, filled with nostalgia and vidya games, and the staff was lovely! We pre-purchased the breakfast for our stay as well as access to the arcade room. We were a little worried because our room was crammed under the stairs and next to the laundry room, but we had no issues with noise or anything during our stay. The room was narrow and a little hard to navigate with not much storage, but we made do. Bathroom was meh, our sink faucet was about ready to fall off and they really could've added a little storage stand or something. These were really the only downsides, we weren't planning on being in the room much. The beds were SUPER comfy and we both slept later than we normally would due to how comfy and cozy we were. The breakfast every morning was the best investment (only $10 per day - SO WORTH IT!). We loved getting to change up our options from day to day. They have lot of room for hanging in the lobby with various games, plus a bar too, and the arcade room which was super fun! They also have an outdoor area which we didn't use since it was on the chilly side. Staff was phenomenal! It was fun chatting to them while they were there. And my friend was trying to arrange for a beer delivery while we were there and they were so nice to help us coordinate/keep the beer safe for us while we were out. Great experience at this place and it was the perfect landing spot for our weekend in Amsterdam!

Yelp
If you are visiting Amsterdam where does one stay? An AirB&B in Centraal, a hotel near Museum Plein? It is a costly endeavor and for many travelers who breeze in and out, you may stay in your hotel room for seven hours to sleep and shower. On a recent trip I decided to stay in De Pijp, a nice neighborhood outside the ghastly tourist bustle. I found the Arcade where location and price met. This hotel is on a quiet stretch across from a park. When I checked in, I was surprised to connect the name of the hotel to arcade games. The lobby has couches with game consoles, a dedicated room with larger arcade machines and a small bar, I sort of felt like the movie Casablanca with a motley crew of hotel characters. The elevator has character playing cards which slowly takes you up to small hallways with quirky arcade drawings on the walls. The rooms are about 80 square feet with a bed, small desk and open bathroom. It was clean and quirky. The hotel staff are personable. The hotel is fairly quiet but if you have an open window you will hear cars, trams and occasional street conversations wafting into your room. Overall it is a simple hotel with character and well located. If you want an authentic experience, this place will deliver in spades.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE. Absolutely uninhabitable rooms and rude (to the point of being hostile) staff. There is no AC, which is not usually an issue in Amsterdam, but it's also impossible to open the windows, which effectively turns the room into an oven even when it's not very hot outside. The hotel was also completely unwilling to cancel the reservation after it was impossible to stay there due to the temperature of the rooms, and they completely ignored requests from the booking agency to process a refund. Absolutely avoid this hotel at all costs.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I did not stay here, but had to give them 5 stars and a review for saving my skin! Few things cause more panic than an almost dead phone while travelling. After visiting 3 coffee shops and finding no hope, I walked in to the Arcade Hotel, and without hesitation the owner pulled up a chair for me and plopped me in front of the outlet. They let me charge my phone and portable battery up, and wished me a good rest of my trip with a smile. Thank you so much!

Yelp
Please be warned before you book off of their website make sure you book for the Arcade hotel (upgraded rooms) or you will be stuck in rooms only a teenaged boy may like. The rooms on the website only show the upgraded rooms. Trust me I know from experience! I felt like I was socked in the stomach when I saw the room. I couldnt believe it ! The television was miniature and when we checked in only one outlet was working. This is not convenient when you are traveling with technology. The tub is an accident waiting to happen. The Tub is slanted up so in order to take a shower you have to twirl within the tiny circle that is flat to get water on you. The sliding door to the bathroom was only hanging on by one screw I was just hoping it wouldn't fall on me when I was asleep. When we asked if there was a possibility for an upgrade the manager was a bit snooty and said she would put us in another room but it would be the same as the room we have now. Then when we asked her if she can make a call for us and she said, "why"? Well it's because there is no phone in the room either! I always like pointing out some positivity so here it is: Pedro who works the front desk was super helpful with finding us the tours to Brugge and Keukenhof gardens. He sets a great example for his manager. The guy who sets up breakfast in the morning was also very nice! The breakfast is 9 euros if you buy it the night before. There is a nice selection of breads, cold cuts, juices and fresh waffles. It beats walking a couple of blocks trying to find a place that is open. The comic book theme is cool but they need to execute the idea in the rooms with class. A graffiti mural says to me hostel not hotel.

Yelp
This hotel is lovely! Its quaint, off of the main drag, but has very easy tram access to all of Amsterdam's main attractions. The room was very clean and the bathroom functioned well. The staff we so so helpful. We asked for recommendations for somewhere local to eat and were directed to a brilliant Turkish restaurant just 7 minutes from the hotel. Also, we asked for directions on how to get to the Van Gogh house and were given a map and correct directions. In addition, we asked for a recommendation on a place that did pancakes. When the man on reception didn't know of anywhere, he made a conscious effort to go and ask one of ladies in the housekeeping team who knew of a fantastic place which we found with ease. The only downside is the steepness of the stairs, believe me, they aren't comfortable to trip down and are difficult to manage with suitcases. However, there is a lift. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with mobility problems or young children, but apart from that, I loved the whole ambience of the hotel and would definitely go back.

Yelp
The price is good, but the accommodations are terrible. The walls and ceiling are paper this. We were kept up all night by stomping and furniture moving above us. We asked the hotel staff to intervene but he did not. Couldn't even sleep in the next day, as there is a school behind the hotel, so starting very early you can hear the loud kids shouting and playing. The stairs between floors are very narrow and winding, and you will geth every person that climbs them, plus their 2am conversation, in your room. No windows, only a door outside you have to leave cracked for temperature control, so you get bugs since there's no screen. The beds are low quality, cheap mattresses on a cheap, rickety stand. Unless you're compelled by the video game schtick they have going on, there is absolutely no reason to stay here.
