The Archway Guest House

A truly unforgettable stay – the best I've had in the Lake District! This was my second visit to the Lakes, and while I've stayed in several houses in the area before, I must say this was by far the best experience. Anita and her family were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. She showed us around, explained everything clearly, and made sure we felt right at home. The house itself was clean and cosy, with everything thoughtfully prepared in advance —enough towels, shampoo, bottled water, and anything else you might possibly need. Each day the host provided a newly printed breakfast menu with customer's name to choose from, with delicious options. Everything was beautifully cooked and super fresh then served with a smile! Even though we stayed for several nights, our experience never felt overlooked when new guests arrived. The hosts were consistently attentive, taking the time to check in with us and even offering advice on our daily plans — including looking up live updates for us. You'll also find an abundance of local guides and maps available in the dining area. One final detail worth mentioning — during the colder weather the wonderfully hot water supply. It made returning home after a day out in the brisk Lake District air feel especially comforting.

My friends and I stayed for 3 nights in July on a girl's trip. My friends had a super cute room with a sheep theme on the first floor (second floor in the US) and I had an equally cute room on the second floor (third floor in the US). The rooms were very nicely decorated and both had modern, updated bathrooms. What really makes this guesthouse special is the hosts Anita and Dennis. Dennis very kindly helped us get our luggage up to our rooms and was superb every morning in the kitchen. Anita is fun to talk to and was able to help with restaurant and laundry suggestions. Anita also went above and beyond when my friend left some items in a drawer. She contacted us right away and was able to send the items overnight to our next hotel. My friend was so grateful. The location of the guest house is within walking distance of the train and you don't have to contend with all of the crowds in Bowness.

We had a lovely stay at Archway Guest House, and Anita and Dennis were excellent hosts. We stayed a comfortable 3 nights in the Windermere room, featuring a cozy sitting space by the windows with a beautiful view of the mountains and a recently updated bathroom. Located off the Main Street, just 5 min downhill from the train station, we were able to walk to everything we wanted to enjoy. Anita had great recommends for activities in all weather conditions, and the breakfast prepared by Dennis was perfect each day (recommend trying the Caribbean breakfast). We had plenty of privacy, but also enjoyed chatting with other guests over breakfast. A wonderful stay, highly recommend

I had the loveliest stay at The Archway. Dennis and Anita are the warmest hosts and Anita gave me so many useful tips for navigating about Windermere. My room was immaculate, with a nice bed and comfortable linens. The view out my window over a green space with the fells beyond - breathtaking. And the bathroom, which is almost brand new, is luxurious with a giant shower. This was my first night of a 7 day inn to inn hike - I honestly was sorry to leave!

I recently stayed at Archway Guest House with my mum for two nights. From the moment we arrived, Anita and Denis made us feel completely at home. They are such warm and friendly hosts who are always happy to help and offer local tips. The rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast, and Denis’s Caribbean breakfast were a must try. Flavourful, fresh, and beautifully cooked. The location is perfect for exploring Windermere and the Lake District (5 mins walk from the train/bus station) and the hospitality we received made our stay even more memorable. We would absolutely recommend Archway Guest House to anyone visiting the area and we hope to return again in the future! Thank you so much, Anita and Denis!

Delightful guesthouse close to everything needed in Windermere, but the outstanding thing about it is the owners, Anita and Denis are so knowledgeable about the area and more than that so caring and helpful to their guests. I was especially grateful for their kindness in looking after my needs, being somewhat disabled. Breakfasts were delicious too! Highly recommended.

We highly recommend the Archway Guesthouse for excellent value, cleanliness, attention to the details that we really noticed and appreciated, and overall warm hospitality. Anita and Dennis made sure we felt welcome from the moment we arrived, starting with lovely tea and homemade cake. Anita shared many details about great walks, restaurants and other cultural places of interest in this part of the Lakes. Our room was very comfortable, and breakfasts were generous and delicious, starting our days heartily. Our car was parked securely in the lot behind the house. Do not hesitate to reserve a place at this lovely guest house in Windemere, close to the train station and busses to all the Lakeland towns.

Denis and Anita were amazing hosts! We really enjoyed our time there not only because the great location but the nice room and fantastic breakfasts. All the details could tell that they were very thoughtful. Definitely recommended.
