The number of 1 place to visit in Cluj. After the renovation it is still in a miserable condition. No museum shop and no audioguide. Sometimes a4 papers in Romanian are stuck in a box on the wall. Be ready for intensive googling if you want yo know what you are looking at. If you want to make photos, extra charge applies.

I had a super weird experience. I payed full for the permanent exhibition, but I was banned from exploring one-third of the exhibition because of a private event. There should have been discounts or at least notification by the time I paid the entrance ticket. It would have been a big shock if I had paid additional 20 Lei for taking pictures, being able to see only dozens of paintings. Without that, the collection is quite limited. Sad that there are not that many alternatives to experience regional arts other than this place.

11.6.2025 for me compared with art museums like f.e.in Arad,Baia Mare or Constanta rather unspectacular....some nice pieces of Tonitza and Luchian....but without any explanations and poor presentation ...for 28RON(!)admission and EXTRA 20RON for permission to make fotos with mobile!!!

Located in the center of the city, the museum's building is a Banfy Castle that hosts an amazingly rich permanent art collection, counting pieces like Grigorescu and Tonitza between many other famous names. Being the large, beautiful historical castle that it is, very often you may find all sorts of events including photography expositions, bookfests and many other.

Google
sweet art museum at one of the best locations in the city. chronologically ordered from iconography to modern art. permanent and temporary exhibition space. a lot of paintings of famous grigorescu (who u can see on your 10 lei) and also famous luchian and others.

I especially liked the temporary exhibitions but the permanent one had some nice pieces as well. Even the local artists had some good paintings among the more known ones like Luchian and Grigorescu. The building is pretty old, and it has wooden floors which are very squeaky :))) so tread carefully around so they don't cause much noise

Nice place to visit when in need of art. Unfortunately not very intuitively and clearly organized. They have a permanent gallery with paintings from Grigorescu, Luchian, Paciurea and more, and temporary exhibitions, where sometimes you can find real art gems. The building architecture, inside, outside and the inner courtyard is something to see. The staff is very polite, but unfortunately sometimes they give you the feeling that you stepped back in time, in communism. They are not at fault. It's the system they work in. But all considered, it's really worth getting in.

A beautiful museum with involved staff. If you are an admirer of visual arts this is (obviously) the place for you, from sculpture to famous paintings and everything in between. Bonus points for the architecture of the building and the way they made use of it to enhance the aesthetic of the museum.
