Cooking Classes Are My Favorite Way to Understand a City

"This cooking class in Athens is located on the roof of The Artist Hotel near Monastiraki Square. The four-hour experience is terrific from start to finish. You learn how to prepare a five-course traditional Greek dinner—Aegean Salad, tzatziki, spanakopita (spinach and feta pie), moussaka (beef and eggplant lasagna), and galatopita (custard pie)."

The Artist Athens was a delightful surprise. From the outside, you might not guess what a gem it is inside. The interior is modern, stylish, and full of character. The service was outstanding—Nikki in particular went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. Our room was good, comfortable, with excellent air conditioning and a powerful shower that washed away the fatigue of a long travel day. It felt safe and welcoming throughout. Although it’s officially rated as a 3-star hotel, it surpasses many 4-star properties I’ve stayed in—especially in terms of service, comfort, and atmosphere. One of the highlights is the rooftop: open to visitors, it features a fantastic restaurant and an astonishing view of the Parthenon. There’s controlled access to ensure guest privacy, which is a smart touch. Breakfast was tailored, fresh, and satisfying—just what you need to start the day. The location is right in downtown Athens, within a 15-minute walk of major sights including the Parthenon. Don’t miss the charm of the nearby backstreets, full of lively local restaurants and hidden gems. A truly memorable stay in the heart of the city.

This is a quaint little hotel that’s big on service. Great options for daily breakfast. The rooms are kept clean and fresh with daily service and towels. A small Nespresso machine in the room helps you start your day. The rooftop bar and restaurant have a view of the Acropolis. Awesome drinks and great view! Location wise you can’t do better, close enough to walk to restaurants, bars and the major sites. Definitely a great spot if you’re visiting Athens.

Although it was not very expensive, hotel surprised me with a nice, modern, industrial style. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Hotel crew was very friendly and helpful making this stay even nicer. Breakfast a la cart were also very tasty with some healthy options. Hotel is located in a city center so perfect for visiting, but might bea little louder during the night especially on the weekends, as there are many rooftop bars in the city center, but it wasn't problem for me. Highly recommended!

Excellent small hotel with friendly staff. They accommodated my breakfast on the day I arrived as I had to leave early the next morning. Great location down a reasonably quiet street. You do hear some noise from the rooftop which is open past midnight but the hotel tries to minimize it with an additional glass door between the stairs and the pod of rooms. Try for the Acropolis view if you can!

A little off the beaten track but that turned out to be great. Very walkable, to the Acropolis and Syntagma Square and the National Archeological Museum, etc. Tiny room but we're used to that in Europe, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The rooftop bar and restaurant with view of the Acropolis was fantastic. We had dinner there twice and really enjoyed the food. The included breakfast was also superb. Highly recommend.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Athens, and I must say it was an exceptional experience! The service was outstanding – the hotel staff was incredibly kind, friendly, and always willing to assist with anything we needed. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed and well taken care of. The rooms were clean, well-organized, and very comfortable, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast – a rich, fresh, and delicious selection, perfect for starting the day in the best way possible. Without a doubt, I will return to this hotel on my next visit to Athens. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-quality hospitality experience!

I will admit, I was a little concerned about almost any hotel in Athens from all the reviews I was reading but this hotel seemed the best so I gave it a try. I do not regret it one bit! Their service was amazing, the rooms are very clean, modern, water pressure is amazing, cleaned everyday, and breakfest everyday in the morning with a variety of options. I personally didn't like the breakfest but it is A LOT better than most hotels you will see. Front desk was amazing, offered welcome drinks, and was very clear. I can't recommend this hotel enough to anyone visiting. Only downside is they have very few rooms so geting a room reserved is not easy. Location is great, right next to the center, metro station that takes you to the airport directly, and all the shopping and eating places. Also, there is a rooftop bar with affordable prices that looks directly at the Acropolis! Thank you for an amazing experiance making my trip unforgettable! Edit: I gave it a 4/5 because the breakfest wasn't my favorite, aside from that, it was outstanding!
