Astor is a solid 2-star hotel, and I mean that in the most realistic way possible. Its location is fantastic - just a two-minute walk from the beach, with plenty of great restaurants, bars, and nightlife options nearby. Public transportation is also easily accessible. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, offering a comfortable bed, towels, and a mini fridge, covering all the basics for a pleasant stay. That said, the hotel has significant downsides. The building shows its age and is in serious need of renovation. During our visit over New Year’s Eve, the first floor had a noticeable smell of mold, and some amenities were unavailable. The pool, unfortunately, looked neglected and uninviting. Worse yet, customer service leaves much to be desired. Getting assistance can take up to 10 minutes, especially for issues like being locked out or incorrect passcodes during check-in. The reception desk is frequently unmanned, and even when staff are present, their attitude suggests indifference to guests' needs or well-being. While its affordability and convenient location make it an option for those on a tight budget, the poor customer care and lack of attention to detail make it hard to recommend. If you’re looking for a hassle-free stay, you might want to consider other options.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after our stay at this hotel in Miami South Beach, I feel obligated to share our experience in hopes that management takes immediate action. While the hotel looks visually appealing from the outside, the location is prime if you are looking to be near south beach and the room seemed spacious and cute our actual stay was the opposite. It was clear from the moment we arrived that this place is completely neglected, with no regard for guest experience, security, or basic hospitality. Major Issues: No Privacy: Our curtain rods were broken, meaning we had no way to block the outside view from directly facing our bed. This was uncomfortable and unacceptable. No WiFi & Zero Assistance: We understand self-check-in, but that shouldn’t mean guests are abandoned. We made multiple calls and requests about our non-functioning WiFi in room 315, which we needed to work. Nobody responded with a solution, nothing got fixed, and we had to waste extra money working from cafés and we ended up with no WiFi for entire 6 nights stay. No Housekeeping or Basic Hygiene Consideration: Our towels were never replaced, and we had no choice but to dry and reuse them in a hot, beach city where multiple showers a day are obviously necessary. Our room stank of humidity despite having the vent on at all times. No bed-making, no room cleaning—nothing. Zero Security – A Major Concern: Initially, the hotel felt safe, but that changed when we noticed the main entrance does not lock properly, allowing homeless individuals visibly under the influence to enter freely and nap in the reception area. This was completely unsafe. No Lighting in the Main Staircase at Night: One of the most embarrassing things about this hotel is that during the evening, there were no lights in the main staircase. We had to use our phone flashlights just to get to our room—something that no guest in a paid hotel should have to do. A lightbulb costs under $10, yet this hotel couldn't be bothered to replace it. Unreliable Customer Service Contacts: The so-called “reception” consists of photos of staff that change everyday with phone numbers, texts, and WhatsApp contacts listed and cute little personal info on the reception and their suggested restaurants. They never responded. In fact, nobody responded to anything at any time. Final Thoughts The only decent things about this place were the working air conditioning and the small water dispenser left at reception—which, given the rest of the experience, felt more like an insult than a hospitality gesture as the water was only refilled once a day at best. To top it off, they proudly display an award for “Best Interior Design” from 1998—27 years ago on their exterior wall. That’s the last time this hotel achieved anything. While the hotel does have a minor charm when you enter, it quickly disappears as you become aware of the rest. Verdict: I paid a premium price to stay in what felt like an unmanaged frat house—no service, unsafe conditions, no basic hotel necessities, and completely unresponsive staff. If you’re considering booking here, do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere. If management reads this, I strongly urge a resolution. With word of mouth, social media, and reviews like this, it won’t take long for others to catch on if nothing changes.

I've traveled the world, but no other hotel has shocked me as much as Hotel Astor in Miami Beach. I am a Wyndham Diamond member and booked a one-night stay there. During reservation, they mentioned that the elevator wasn't working, but that should have been a sign of the overall disarray I would encounter, which I unfortunately didn't grasp at the time. The front desk was in complete chaos, with a disorganized reception area. As a Diamond member, I was entitled to an upgrade, and I could see that there was a higher category room available during check-in. However, the receptionist insisted that such a room didn't exist. When we arrived at our room, we found no key. Instead, there was a regular home-style smart lock installed on the door. The staff member came up, set a password on the door lock in front of us, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and handed it to us. At first glance, the room seemed clean, but within a minute, I started noticing numerous oddities. First, there was no bulb in the bathroom. They hadn't installed it. Instead, there was a bedside lamp placed on the sink, which didn't work properly, so we had to plug and unplug it each time we used the bathroom. The bathroom mirror had strange stains, the counter was broken, and the sink was cracked. The toilet flush was improperly installed, working only when pressed in the opposite direction. The room's door was bizarrely half-painted. The bathroom door was rusted all over. The room's curtains were filthy and looked like they had never been washed. The duvet smelled foul, and there was no duvet on the bed. We had to use a spare one. Some of the wall sockets didn't work, and oddly, some would turn off the room's lights when used. Under the table, there was a mixture of dust and rust. It was a profoundly disappointing experience, especially considering my membership status and expectations from a reputed hotel chain.

I booked a wheelchair accessible room for the Astor by LuxUrban Trademark Collection by Wyndham on the 4th of January 2024. On the 29th of March, I was informed by guest services of LuxUrban that they must cancel my reservation due to unforeseen maintenance issues and told me my room would not be available for at the time of my check in. I was advised to contact refund services which I did straight away who stated “they’re experiencing a backlog and are working to issue my outstanding refund as soon as possible.” This has been their excuse for the last 9 months! I tried to claim it from my travel insurance but since the Astor has not outright denied that I won’t get my refund, my travel insurance won’t proceed with my claim. I have been emailing Refund Services but nothing is happening. The last communication was on the 22nd of November Refund Services: “Hello, Yes, we would still be able to process your refund via a wire transfer. However, We are currently experiencing a backlog and working to issue your outstanding refund as soon as possible. Once you have completed your transfer, we will be in touch with a follow up email to confirm once your refund is successfully processed.” This is completely unacceptable and outrageous. It’s been beyond a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a refund that I clearly deserve! Absolute disgrace and pathetic customer service.

We’ve stayed at Roami at Hotel Astor and we can’t complain! If you are the type of person who doesn’t figure things out, don’t book it! The hotel is in Airbnb style, where they send you all the codes and instructions and you do everything by yourself. Room was freezing when we walked in (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT), Smelled good and our bed was nicely made. The room is so quiet! You can’t hear anything from the street. Room was cleaned but the floor could’ve been mopped one more time. Room was simple, but all we needed except for two things: a trash can and hair dryer. They are under construction, we assume they just took over the building because you can see they are organizing the whole place and renovating (we loved that for you guys). There’s a virtual concierge during the day (an actual person in a tv where you can ask stuff /talk), and we saw someone at the front desk in the morning. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to use the pool, but the pool is there and you can use it. LOCATION IS 10/10. I’d definitely go back and I’d definitely recommend to my friends.

I'm giving 5 stars because the hotel is actually worth the money. $500 for 5 nights isn't bad considering you live 3 minutes from Ocean Drive. 1) The location is just perfect. In fact, in the center (slightly behind) Ocean Drive You are in a comfortable position. 2) Price. This hotel is not luxury and if you are looking for expensive rich you are not here. This is an old building without renovation and a working elevator (it seems to be being repaired), but it is not so difficult to climb the stairs to the second floor. If this is difficult, I'm sure you can ask for the first floor. All these shortcomings form a fairly reasonable price. 3) Staff. The guys are nice and friendly. They check in us in the room a few hours earlier with a smile on their face, for which special thanks to them) And yes, there is no cleaning, and if this is important to you, you are not here. This is a kind of low cost hotel, where everything was removed and you can have the most necessary things for a low fee. Recommend 👍🏻

So I think this is a great hotel and just a few tweaks will take it over the top. They told us that they are in the middle of transitioning to ownership by Wyndham so I'm excited to see what it will be when that's done. Its an older hotel so the outlets need to be updated, I'm just used to having USB on outlets. Also a microwave and fridge would be great. Lastly, there's no parking! Well, its like 4 blocks away. That's actually wasn't horrible for us because so much is in walking distance so we didn't use our car the whole time we were here. Easy solution is to just to either acquire a closer parking lot, make valet 'complimentary', that is 5 star hotel behavior. At the very least let folks know that they have to walk 4 blocks. But all in all, it was a great stay!

We stayed here in May 2023. Other reviewers have pointed out all the obvious flaws; the pool and lifts are not in operation, the hotel lobby smells of weed, the corridors have debris from workmen left lying around, one of the rooms we had booked did not have working A/C. All of these issues seem to have been raised in reviews over several months and unforunately we didn't see any evidence of improvement with this as we noted all of these issues too. The second room we booked had an awful smell of vomit; the Reception staff were very helpful and friendly (the only positive we can say about this hotel, really) and did show us the only other alternative room that they had available; unfortunately that room had sheer curtains and no blinds so we did not think it would be suitable, so we had to put up with staying in a smelly room for 4 nights. The hotel is in a good location, the rooms were a good size and were clean. This has the potential to be a good place to stay, but we would not be returning any time soon as it is really very run-down at the moment.
