The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok

"Flanked by embassies on tree-lined Wireless Road, this member of the Luxury Collection cuts a relaxing figure in a mega-city known for its go-go-go energy. Take, for instance, the free-form rooftop pool which is shaded by native trees and blossoming plants and is the perfect spot to cool off from Thailand’s no-joke humidity. Among its eight bars and restaurants are spots dedicated to modern French cooking, Japanese kaiseki, classic Cantonese, and regional Thai; at the House of Smooth Curry, the set dinner menu includes such dishes as spicy river prawn salad, wok-fried chayote, and deep-fried grouper in sweet and sour tamarind sauce. The hotel was built on the grounds of the former Kandhavas Palace, so it’s only natural that guest rooms incorporate subtle nods to Thai royal motifs."

Although I enjoy staying at the Athenee Bangkok hotel and this is my second visit, I hope to see some improvements in the future.|I booked my room through the Marriott Stars program, which promised a welcome gift and a personalized greeting card from the General Manager. Unfortunately, these amenities were not delivered as expected.|In the executive lounge, the staff appeared quite busy and missed several drink orders. Their service felt less attentive compared to my previous visit, and I noticed that some of the exceptional team members I remembered are no longer with the hotel.|That said, the hotel still shines with its stunning swimming pool and elegant lobby—both beautifully reflective of Thai cultural design and truly iconic. I hope my next stay will be more memorable, with the service matching the hotel’s exceptional ambiance

Elegant Atmosphere with Warm, Attentive Service I recently visited this hotel to attend a seminar and was impressed the moment I arrived. The atmosphere felt luxurious yet welcoming. The staff were very service-minded and kindly guided me to the seminar room with a smile, especially since I felt a bit lost with so many events listed on the signage. The food and beverages provided throughout the day were great. During the break times, there was a nice variety of snacks and drinks available, and everything I tried tasted fresh and satisfying. For lunch, I enjoyed the international buffet, which was excellent! There was a wide selection of cuisines start from Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, European, and more. I couldn’t try everything, but every dish I chose was delicious, and I truly enjoyed each one. As for dessert, there were plenty of options, including seasonal fruits, cakes, assorted chocolates, baked goods, ice cream, and more. I personally liked them, especially the variety in textures and flavors across the different cakes. However, a quick heads-up: if you’re not a fan of sweet desserts, some may be a bit too sweet, as a few attendees at my table pointed out. Overall, it was a lovely experience with a great vibe, delicious food, and excellent service.

The hotel is part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection and lives up to its name. The Athenee has a grand entrance and we were wowed by the pleasing double staircase and its white, brightly lit and elegant lobby. Due to our Platinum Elite status, we were able to check-in at the Club Lounge located on the 26th floor and enjoy light snacks and drinks immediately. One thing I like to point out the Thai ice tea which can be ordered anytime while the lounge is open. Our room on the 23rd floor was at the corner and there is always a clean & fresh mint smell that permeates in the hallway. There is a beautiful pool on the 4th floor which we did not use but used the Fitness Center which although is not large has enough machines and free weights for anyone’s needs. The Rain Tree Café, hotel’s restaurant located on the 1st floor has many selections for breakfast. It tends to get really busy but the café is large enough so seating isn’t a problem. We take public transportation during our travels so we place importance in our hotel’s accessibility. The Athenee might not be next to the Phloen Chit BTS station but still in close proximity. Almost all of the staff are friendly, welcoming and ready to assist with any of our needs. Special commendation to the following – Mine (at the Club Lounge), Pranee (our room cleaner), Jason & Brink (at the Front Desk), & Jirawat, Narudon, Urkis and Chok (stationed at the hotel’s doors & are the first and last people we see when entering and leaving). A hotel is not only great by the quality of its property but also by its staff who make every effort to make their guests comfortable and happy with each moment of their stay. The Athenee Bangkok is such a hotel and we loved our stay!

Rooms: 27.5/30. It's overall pretty nice, but nothing crazy. Room size is pretty average, but the bed is quite nice and there's a table for working which is great. There is a good view, and it's clean and looks quite good. Facilities and amenities: 33.5/35. There are a variety of facilities and activities, which are all relatively high-quality. The pool is relatively large, on the 4th floor meaning it looks good and there's a nice view. The gym is pretty good, has many life fitness machines (which are high quality), but a main criticism is that it's relatively hot compared to the other rooms which means I sweat a lot more and it's less comfortable to exercise. There's also a lounge, spa, sauna, and steam room. As for the activities, on the 15th of June, there was a world wellness day event where it included an ice bath, which was good. Service: 14.5/15. One of the best aspects of this hotel is that the staff are extremely attentive, helpful, and nice. I love how they can communicate quite fluently in both Thai and English, helping assist both Thais and the foreigners which are quite common in the hotel. The ratio of staff to guests is also high, meaning that it usually doesn't take long for service. Food: 9.75/10. It seems as if one of the main parts of the hotel is the food, as it's not only good but also plentiful throughout the day. For the breakfast, there's free breakfast at the rain tree cafe, which includes expensive options and high quality ingredients - much better than standard buffets, even for 5-star hotels. As for lunch, there are numerous restaurants around the hotel. A detail I probably should add is that both the Rain Tree Cafe (International Dinner Buffet) and Hashiri (Japanese Restaurant) are the 2nd and 3rd highest rated according to my rubric as of the time of writing this review. For dinner, there's not only afternoon tea but also cocktails (dinner is included in cocktails), which all taste good. Location: 9.5/10. It's close to other hotels, large malls, and is situated in the central business district of Bangkok, an affluent area with many things. Total Score: 94.75/100 (Ranked 1 out of 25 as of the time writing this review)

We hosted a 4 day conference for 90 people in this fine establishment and were so well looked after. Our every request was met with a smile and efficiency. The attention to detail was astounding and general adaptability around some of the changes we had to make was remarkable. An excellent business destination and having stayed on a day longer as a guest we were treated like gold! A very special place with special people. And a special mention to Goy our event manager! Thank you so very much!

This was the perfect stay for my first time in Bangkok! The hotel itself is beautiful and luxurious, and the staff is all extremely friendly, helpful, and sweet. The staff deserves a huge shout-out as they provided me with some of the best service I've ever experienced at a hotel. From check-in to daily needs and recommendations to checkout, this was truly a luxurious experience. The buffet at Raintree was delicious, and I looked forward to a wonderful and fresh breakfast every morning. They even have a fresh juice bar where you can choose the fruits and veggies to create a custom juice. We also dined at Hashiri for lunch and the set lunches were fantastic! The rooms were clean, comfortable, and so relaxing. Thank you to the amazing staff!

This is not the first time we stayed at this hotel (about 3rd or 4th time over the years) so we booked the room type that is fitting. For some reason the reception informed us that we were "upgraded". But it turned out it's not really an upgrade except the name of the room ("royal" or something) which is in fact smaller than our original booking. We called downstairs waiting to change back to our original booking. They agreed to come up and pick up our luggage and show us to our originally booked room. We waited but no one came. Luckily we didn't unpack but frustrated that we had to go downstairs to pick up the keys ourselves. Apart from that, the whole stay was enjoyable, with great breakfast service, great Sunday brunch, great swimming pool and so on. And we probably will stay here again next time in Bangkok. The lesson for others is that do your homework, don't automatically trust any "upgrades" (maybe the staff genuinely thought it was an upgrade) and demand change right away, don't wait staff to come to you. Sometimes it's their English standards, sometimes it's just their working pace.

Words can’t express how much we loved this hotel. From the moment we arrived to the very last day, we felt as if we were the only guests on property. Every single associate from doorman, concierge staff, room attendants, restaurant hosts and waiter/waitress, all exemplified what customer service is all about. The nightly turn down service with a little animal made out of the towels and a care note really made us feel appreciated. We loved it here so much that we shortened our trip in another country to stay a few extra days longer at this hotel. Do yourselves a favor and book your accommodations here at The Athenee Hotel. You will not be disappointed nor want for anything. They have it all! Thank you for a wonderful experience and we will be back again!
