The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok

"Flanked by embassies on tree-lined Wireless Road, this member of the Luxury Collection cuts a relaxing figure in a mega-city known for its go-go-go energy. Take, for instance, the free-form rooftop pool which is shaded by native trees and blossoming plants and is the perfect spot to cool off from Thailand’s no-joke humidity. Among its eight bars and restaurants are spots dedicated to modern French cooking, Japanese kaiseki, classic Cantonese, and regional Thai; at the House of Smooth Curry, the set dinner menu includes such dishes as spicy river prawn salad, wok-fried chayote, and deep-fried grouper in sweet and sour tamarind sauce. The hotel was built on the grounds of the former Kandhavas Palace, so it’s only natural that guest rooms incorporate subtle nods to Thai royal motifs."

I stayed at The Athenee Hotel and honestly fell a little in love with the place. It has this beautiful, almost old colonial vibe that instantly gave me St. Regis feelings — elegant without trying too hard. The lounge was one of my favorite spots. It’s so calm and stylish, and the service up there is just perfect. I ended up spending way more time in the lounge than planned because it was simply that nice. The whole hotel feels warm and classy, and my room was super comfortable with a great bed and lots of space. Staff were kind, welcoming, and really made the stay feel special. All in all, such a wonderful hotel. I’d stay here again anytime.

The Athenee Hotel Bangkok, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is an elegant oasis in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant Pathum Wan district – ideal for both business and leisure stays. From the moment we arrived, the service was attentive and welcoming. As Marriott Bonvoy Titanium members, we were upgraded to a stunning Royal Suite and received exceptional recognition throughout the stay. The Executive Lounge on the 26th floor is truly outstanding – with a refined atmosphere, delicious breakfast, generous evening cocktails, and, above all, a wonderful, caring team that sets new standards in hospitality. Housekeeping and concierge services were excellent, always professional and full of Thai warmth. The pool area, with its all-day sun and attentive staff, was the perfect place to relax after a busy day in the city. A few things could be improved: staff in the main restaurant and bar felt a bit mechanical and less personal than expected from a Luxury Collection property. Breakfast at the Rain Tree Café was plentiful but too hectic, and not allowing guests to eat their own fruit by the pool seemed unnecessary. Overall, The Athenee remains one of Bangkok’s finest hotels – elegant, comfortable, and full of charm. With a bit more consistency in service, it would easily reach absolute perfection.

My stay at The Athenee Hotel was very nice overall. The moment you enter, you feel the luxury—starting from the elegant lobby to the stylish uniforms of the staff. The hotel has clearly been renovated, and the redesigned rooms look modern, clean, and comfortable. Although I didn’t try the breakfast or the pool since I stayed only one night, the service stood out. Even with a few small issues during my stay, the way the team handled everything was excellent and professional. You genuinely feel you’re in a luxury Marriott property. I will definitely repeat the experience on my next visit to Bangkok, and next time I’ll make sure to try more of what the hotel offers.

Loved our stay here! The staff are amazing and attentive. We were able to use the showers and relax by the pool when we arrived from our flight super early. Rooms clean and comfy, we only had breakfast but it was great. Would definitely stay here again!

Entering through the main lobby was very grand! It had clean flooring, bright lights from the chandeliers, and plenty of furniture that had a high level of sophistication! The staff was very helpful and accommodating to my needs throughout the stay. The breakfast options include a fresh juice bar and plenty of stations which include: Thai, Japanese, Chinese, American, India, Bread, Dessert, and grill. Just a fun fact, this hotel was once a palace of Princess Valaya the daughter of king Chulalongkorn. Which explains the decorative effects of Thai and European. I certainly enjoyed my stay in this Hotel and will definitely return!

Editing at the end of the stay, upping to 4* from initial 2*. Service did improve, and between the breakfast buffet, afternoon tea and evening cocktails you do get a lot for your Bonvoy status. While we were out to dinner a couple nights, the two nights we ate in the lounge in the evening the food was great and the cocktails were also very good, the lounge staff seemed a little overwhelmed so drink service was slow, but they were all very friendly and professional. We particularly enjoyed the attention to detail by the room staff, making wonderful towel art when making up the room and placing of slippers next to the bed along with a fresh bottle of water and a glass on the nightstand during turndown service was appreciated. This hotel also has an excellent gym. Initial post continues here, and the reason for docking a star….disappointing stay so far. Previously at this hotel it was up to the concierge lounge for a peaceful check-in with a welcome coffee or drink seated at the desk going through the process (and that was Bonvoy Platinum). This time, as Titanium, left milling in line in the lobby for ten minutes waiting to check in, no acknowledgment of status and no upgrade - though I know there’s no guarantee of this as its availability based - but this is our sixth Marriott property stay this trip to Thailand and the only one without upgrade, so we’ve become a bit spoiled. Lounge was very nice last night though, so we’ll see how the next couple of days go and will edit a final review if things improve. As of right now, just disappointed as I’d saved this hotel for last of our trip as previous experience was so strong.

The breakfast at this 5-star hotel was extremely disappointing. The noodle soup was worse than what you get from a street stall — honestly the worst noodles I’ve ever had in Thailand. The chef seriously needs to be questioned. The service was also terrible. Their restaurant claims to be “Michelin-recommended,” yet the staff were careless — one waiter was clearing the table so roughly that a knife fell on my foot. Unbelievable. The food was overly salty as well. The hotel facilities are old and outdated. The café service was just as bad — they don’t even have a menu, and you can sit there for 10 minutes without anyone coming to take your order. I will definitely not be coming back.
