I had earlier in my stay tried to have a simple refreshing aperitif after a busy day, I had returned to my room in a nearby 5 star to change from work wear to relaxed wear.
Upon arrival I asked simply to venture downstairs which I was informed was closed until 6 which was advertised differently, so I was versed into the bar, offered water and forgotten about with the barista seemingly more accommodating to the PYT whom suggested he make her " her usual ".
So I left,
Next visit was in climate wild Melbourne weather, so other than venture to my usual suspects I thought, Atlantic,
Upon arrival the service was systematic, almost robotic, I know success is achieved by systems and procedures but the art of restaurant hosting is engaging your guest.
None of this was present, but shuffled to my table for one, clearly not overly fussed with the prospect of a singular diner.
The only table to be not lapped with my napkin, the wine list by the glass was appalling, charging almost full bottle prices which I am aware due to my shares in a certain beverage supplier for an average quaffing wine but service was attentive although with only a small smattering of tables certainly ensured all guests were pacified.
I chose the crab bisque, very aromatic, with a velvety texture, strong overtones of seafood, a clever and majestic perfume of rockmelon spheres, wonderful with balance and enhanced by zesty preserved lemon.
My main I chose the beef cheeks, with a rich almost creamy synergy of artichoke although a little unprepared with almost a stringy aftertaste, set of a delicate mushroom base which evolved and not highlighted to taste of the carnivorous beef.
In all I found the meal to be pleasant, a chef who is leading his craft from the front but feel the exuberant prices $ 100 for one is a little rich for the offering.
In all I would not rush back and feel the inner suburbs can supply a superior experience and almost half the price
