"The Avalon Hotel offers a serene setting thanks to its lush gardens and inviting rooftop deck. Located a short walk from the beach and Avalon’s main attractions, it’s perfect for those who want to be able to dip into the crowds in town but return to their sanctuary whenever they need solitude. Guests can spend time in their rooms, which come decked out in coastal chic decor, or enjoy a bite to eat on either the rooftop terrace or the courtyard garden, which comes complete with a koi pond." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The hotel is ideally located for visiting Avalon. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the town and things to do. The room was cute and comfortable. If you can do it Room 301 has a great deck for sunrise and viewing the town and bay. There is a roof top deck with a 360 degree view and ideal for end of the day drinks or morning breakfast. There is also a serene and pleasant courtyard for breakfast. We recommend the Avalon Hotel for your stay on Catalina Island.

We had a lovely time at the Hotel Avalon. From the second we booked until we left the ferry in Long Beach everything was looked after. The staff….. we absolutely cannot say how wonderful they were. The beds were so comfortable and the view over the harbour was the best I am reluctant to leave a good review as then it will be hard to get our room back when we return- which we will be doing. Continental breakfast in the garden was also wonderful

Fantastic experience. Amazing service kind people. The rooms were very cute. The bathroom was beautiful The only comment my girl made was that there was no lock on the bathroom door but actually that was my favorite part as I could walk in whenever I wanted to lol. I highly recommend this hotel. It couldn't have been a better experience. It's convenient to everything. And did I mention that the staff were amazing? If you're going to Catalina you will not find better accommodations as I've been there many times and this is now my home away from home. Thank you

This is a lovely boutique hotel in the center of Avalon. The rooms have a new and fresh look, and a Craftsman design. They either overlook the patio or have a porch with a view of the bay. There is a rooftop patio as well, with a stunning view. |In addition, the staff is wonderful. In particular I want to mention Evelyn and Corrina (sp?). They were on top of everything. They had answers to all our questions and were beyond personable. They arranged taxis. They recommended eateries and activities. Wish I could have stayed longer. I wonder how I could life in SoCal for 70 years and this was my first trip to the island. By the way, the weather can be pretty good in February, this is California after all. In February you kind of have the place to yourself.|My highlight was dancing with my wife on the circular floor of the ballroom at the Avalon Casino. (It is not a gambling casino and there was no band.) But, it gave you feeling of being there in the Big Band era even though the music was only in our hearts. (O.K. That was a bit much.)

Stacey and Carina were the most wonderful hosts. This trip was very special for us, and they truly took our experience at Catalina to another level with their hospitality. Great people who really cared about our stay. The room was perfect in every way. Because of Carina and Stacey, next time we’re in Catalina, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else.

My wife and I stayed at the Avalon for a couples vacation. The hotel was perfect for us. We loved the decor, the room, the rooftop patio, the staff, and the view. The stay was everything we needed. On the day we checked out, the front desk called me to let me know I forgot something in the room. It was very much appreciated. We are looking forward to our next stay at the Avalon.

This hotel was an absolute knockout! Just impeccable service! Very clean and right on path to everything Catalina! I plan to bring my girls trip friends next year and hopefully we are able to get a group rate. Small room but it was perfect for just me! The added touch of the complimentary Champagne made for an even enjoyable Birthday experience. The Spa recommendation was stellar.

best hotel on Catalina island |loved it |recommended to all my friends and associates. I will always come back here, and also the hotel is pet and family friendly as well, You will love it |Marilyn Monroe sits on the beach here as well. I loved the closeness to the ocean, and the accessibility that the hotel provides not to mention the fabulous meals etc.

Yelp
Stayed at the Avalon Hotel for three nights recently, and it was an amazing experience! The hotel is located at a great location in Avalon, basically halfway between where the Catalina Express Docks and Descanso Beach, so the location is amazing and in the middle of everything, which makes getting to places easy. Check in was easy and they were able to accomodate us arriving earlier than the 3 PM check-in time. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from where the Catalina Express docks, although they do offer taxi to and from the dock. The folks at the front desk were great, and even brought our bags up the stairs to the third floor, which was nice. There are no elevators at this hotel, so if you have trouble going up or down stairs, try booking something on the first floor. We stayed a room with the garden/patio view, and it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. There were a few snacks in the room, and there was a mini fridge. The bathroom was nice as well and included toiletries, like shampoo and body wash which were good. You also have access to the roof, which has an amazing view of the water and the Casino. Breakfast was included in the stay, and it was pretty good! There was a variety of breads, like bagels and english muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and granola. It is out on the patio/garden area they have, and the staff is very attentive at making sure to restock any food items that get low. Overall, it was a great experience with this hotel and the hotel is located in a fantastic spot in Avalon. I highly recommend it to anyone!

Yelp
Evelyn is a delight! Only one of the amazing staff at this fabulous little place. Don't let the size fool you. Small here is a plus as it means personalized service by people who have a sense of ownership and pride in their work. The hotel was immaculate, the coffee superb, and the views from the top floor are beautiful. Adorable private patio with a continental breakfast. DO NOT miss the Avalon Hotel Tangerine Sage Sea Salt body scrub and shea body butter (available for purchase... and we did!) We greatly enjoyed our three day, two night stay in Room 101.

Yelp
The best best best!!!! Lucy your a angel! Room was amazing, food was perfect and the property was quiet and relaxing. This is my go to hotel in Avalon for sure!!

Yelp
Wow - What a great hotel. Great location within waling distance of the Avalon harbor, maybe 5-7 minutes walk, or they offer a free taxi ride over from the harbor. Scenic views of the harbor and the Casino, great staff (friendly, helpful, knowledgeable), great service, and accommodating during the big storm that rolled in for New Years Eve 2022. The person behind the desk was very nice, helpful, offered suggestions on things to see and do, he even helped another guest get a tie for the NYE party at the Casino, the guest had forgotten his tie. He was nice enough to tell us about the storm coming in and the boats might be cancelled coming in and going out. He told us to check with the boat place to make sure we could get a change in our boat tickets and get off the island. The day we got in, we arrived a little early but they stored our bags and then delivered them to our room before we got there. Great local taffy in the lobby, and some more in your room along with some drinks and chocolates. The room was spacious, clean, filled with amenities. The hotel is very close to shopping, restaurants, the harbor, the casino, etc. We are definitely looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
When you hear of the Catalina Island, it is almost impossible not to have heard of The Avalon Hotel. The experience in staying at such a landmark Bed-and-Breakfast-esque accommodation is well worth the hype - you will feel its magic once you arrive. Nestled up on an inclined street, The Avalon Hotel bears the signature Manchu yellow color familiar throughout the island, with decorative geometric 1920's tiles, giving the bygone era sentiments with modern amenities. Check-in was pleasant, the gentleman at the reception was quite knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. He also informed us about breakfast (7AM to 10AM) and where we can fill up our water bottles. The room was quaint with decors - we were also surprised with a gift in the room upon arrival! I did inform them earlier that it was a special occasion, and they welcomed us with a bouquet of flowers, balloon, a card, and even a Martinelli's Apple Cider (they offered champagne, we declined). We loved our balcony, with an ocean view, and was quick to take our coffee there to take in the salty chilled air! We also appreciated the unlimited coffee/tea and fresh fruits at the front desk area. Continental breakfast included bagels and bread to toast, bakery items from Lloyds, as well as instant oatmeal and cereal bar. There were cold hard boiled eggs and yogurts for some protein, milk and orange juice, as well as their unlimited supply of Columbian coffee, which was delicious. There were also fresh fruits and supplies of single serve jams and jellies, cream cheese, and peanut butter. We enjoyed our breakfast out in the garden terrace, next to the Koi pond. It truly was a magical experience to be able to stay at a well-maintained, well serviced accommodations, such as the Avalon Hotel. There's a reason why their rating is consistently high, they make their guests experiences one to remember! Just on a side note, if you're interested in purchasing a souvenir of the Avalon Hotel, which includes those coffee mugs that are in your room, is it possible. Just inform the concierge at the front desk and they were included to your final bill. Just a little reminiscent gift to remember such a wonderful experience! ------------------------------------------------ The ONLY Way to get to the Catalina Island is by a ferry boat (via Long Beach, San Pedro, Newport Beach or Dana Point)which is about an hour ride. Once you arrive on the island, give a call to The Avalon Hotel and they will provide a white cargo taxi transportation, which is complementary (however, tipping the driver is greatly appreciated and he may also help with the heavier luggage's up the first full flight of the stairs!). PROS: EXCELLENT SERVICE! From the moment, we communicated with them via phone a week prior in regards to the boat ride from Long Beach terminal to the day of our arrival, every time we contacted the hotel, we received great communication. We were also unaware of the fact that the building does not have any elevator access, and we had booked a room that was on the third floor. Thankfully, they were kind enough to accommodate us to a lower floor unit! We did also opt for daily housekeeping - this is available with no additional charge! The hotel is very quiet and serene ambiance, we truly had the best rejuvenating experience! LOCATION. This hotel is located within minutes of the heart of the Avalon, to the "Casino", the museum, the Vons supermarket, shops, and restaurants nearby. Because we were off-season, some of the businesses were not open, so it may be a good idea to call ahead to find out whether or not it is open for business. CONS: NO ELEVATORS - STAIRS ONLY. This place will be difficult for those who have mobility issues, especially those in wheelchairs and or any assistive device. WEATHER. As mentioned, we went during the off-season (end of Jan-Feb) so it was a bit chillier than normal. However, coming from the East Coast, you will love this off-season weather! Just be aware that you will be welcomed with sudden rain showers, but no worries, the front desk area has clear umbrellas that you can double as a walking cane. Just be sure to bring it back as you may get charged for the lost item. PRICE: Price is comparable to the season, whether you want to pay the high season prices it will be worth it, even though it is quite expensive. Going there off-season, there are specials that are available for guests - call The Avalon Hotel directly and they will be more than happy to work with you on your dream vacation. Our package included a choice between receiving the third night stay free, or two round-trip tickets for the Catalina Express boat ride. Depending on the length of your stay, either options, would save you quite a bundle.

Yelp
My husband, son (2 years old) and I stayed at the Avalon hotel for 5 days. We enjoy everything about the hotel from day one. Continental breakfast is provided in their beautiful garden, fire TV service provided in your room, Continental water bottle and coffee provided. Beautiful rooftop open for 8-10pm with amazing 360 view of the island. Daily room service provided. The staff and owner of the hotel are insight daily. Your communication and counter with them is suplendious; they are happy to give insights on the best restaurants and excursions. We stayed at the Garden view room with ocean view. It was a spacious room for us three. The bathroom was spacious with enough space. I love the tub in the bathroom for bathtime with my son. There's a microwave and fridge in the room. The heating and cooling of the room was pretty straightforward. Everything is absolutely clean, tidy and decorative. Thank you Avalon staff for making our family vacation one for the books. Merry Christmas & Happy new year

Yelp
Customer service sucks! I had a rash all over my body after checking out, the rooms aren't clean.

Kath K.

Yelp
Lovely comfortable small hotel near shops, restaurants and beach. Great staff. Tiffany was so helpful when I called for reservations and while we were there. Beautiful views. We hope to stay again. I'm

Sara S.

Yelp
Lovely small hotel. Excellent service. Staff at the desk recommended places to eat and suggested we not miss the Halloween Parade (adorable). Breakfast in the courtyard was a treat. Our 3rd floor room was well appointed and quiet. Our balcony provided some wonderful photo ops.

Melina K.

Yelp
Fiance and I came back again to celebrate our 10 years together and 1 year of getting engaged in this Hotel. All I can say is once again they are PHENOMENAL. Gorgeous rooms that have everything you could need, refrigerator, microwave, coffee, robes, breakfast in the morning. The views are spectacular, and everything is just a short walk away. Room 203 is perfect for a more tucked away feel with a balcony (very romantic) and now room 301 has blown us away. Wrap around balcony with front facing views where you can spend hours at a time. Thank you again Avalon Hotel for the exceptional hospitality you all continue to deliver. This is by far the best Hotel to stay at

Mattison G.

Yelp
My wife and I loved our stay at the Avalon Hotel. I don't imagine any of the other hotels around can beat it's combination of location, amenities, and vibes. A quick walk to all the spots in town. The Hotel has a quant ole timey feeling, the service was very friendly and willing to help with any of our needs. Our room came with complementary beach chairs which was awesome, we took these to Descanso Beach Club - didn't have to rent them there, saved us ~$150! The bathroom was very nice, bed was comfy, and we enjoyed our porch/balcony and also the rooftop. We were the only ones up there most of the time and felt very private.. gotta be one of the best views in town. I'd recommend the Avalon Hotel to anybody looking for a getaway weekend.

Talor G.

Yelp
This hotel was recommend by a dear friend! The hotel is so cute, extremely clean and the staff was so kind. The rooms are the perfect size for 2 travelers sharing a king size bed. The beds are very comfy and overall the room felt very homey! Our room had a beautiful large balcony that was perfect for drying our dive gear! They do serve a free continental breakfast of fruits, cereals, and pastries. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and 1000000% recommend staying here! This will be our go to when we return to the island!

Nil G.

Yelp
Spent a really nice weekend at Catalina Island at the Avalon Hotel. The garden in the back is a gem, they sometimes do wine tasting. It was raining, they also set the fire one morning. The bathrobes were quite cute, the staff is friendly and informative about local/tourist attractions. Finally, the rooftop is very nice to have a drink at night. Very quiet and night view is amazing.

Devon W.

Yelp
Very unprofessional, I feel like there was bed bugs in the rooms. Doors would randomly close. It's Definitely haunted. I don't think this is a hotel you would wanna stay at when you're on the island.

Mechell G.

Yelp
I booked this hotel for my hubby birthday. He was very surprised and happy to relax in our beautiful room. The corner wraparound balcony was perfect with amazing ocean view. The balcony was appointed with a fridge/freezer and sink. There's a rooftop terrace with outdoor fridge and sink along with severally BBQ grills and ocean views of course. The toiletries in our bathroom smelled delish. The bed comfy. We had nice size fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker in our room as well. The staff left a lovely birthday surprise for my hubby. He truly loved it. Our first day we relaxed on balcony watching the ocean then left to eat dinner. But then we retired to our room so we can curl up on balcony and enjoy the sea breeze and relax and unwind. The staff are friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast is served. This hotel is so cozy and comfortable my husband was thinking about retiring here. LOL! Like we could afford it. Sorry honey. Vacations only. Special shout out to Innkeeper Stacey. She and her team went over and beyond to ensure our comfort. We appreciated the birthday surprise for my husband. Thank you for everything

Jim S.

Yelp
This is an absolutely wonderful little boutique hotel, located about a block off of Step beach in downtown Avalon. We stayed in room 306. In my opinion 306 and 301 have the best views of the Pacific (and downtown) in the hotel. The photo below is a sunrise pic from the balcony of 306, which includes a balcony wet bar. The room is a bit small, but is laid out well, is well appointed and kept up nicely, and has nice amenities. The only drawback for some, if you're walking, is the block from the main street to the hotel is an uphill walk. From there you have 2 more short flights of stairs to get to the lobby. The hotel has no elevators, so depending on what floor you're on you could have 2 more full flights of stairs to climb to get to your room. Other than that, most people will find this property a true gem. We sure did. Its not cheap, but it doesn't disappoint either.

Emily L.

Yelp
Ten out of five, honestly twenty out of five stars. This hotel is absolutely amazing and made our trip special. What makes this hotel so amazing is not only the amazing rooms and patio with view, but the amount of hospitality and genuine love for the island held by the staff. Tiffany and Stacy really made our stay feel so much more special. I cannot recommend this treasure of a hotel enough. Stay here or be disappointed!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Great hotel. Friendly staff. Loved walking down the halls and seeing all the pictures of Catalina throughout the years. Our view was AMAZING - we stayed in room 306. There is a rooftop viewing area as well I didn't recall reading when I booked but it's SO amazing. Comfy beds, towels were so soft. Hotel provides great amenities from a keurig maker, breakfast, the shower / bathroom items smelt so good. I would stay here again and highly recommend. There is a ac unit / fan in the room we stayed in and it worked great. After leaving the hotel found an item we left behind and text us to have permission to mail it back home to us with a tracking number. Had to come add that to my review. So nice of them.

Vicki M.

Yelp
Can't say enough about this hotel! The staff is amazing ! So attentive to all our needs. Stacey was amazing! We felt we were part of the family! Rooms were clean and well stocked . So many different type of bed pillows to choose from! Continental breakfast in the morning was enjoyed on their patio and we had cocktails every night on the roof top deck! I highly recommend this hotel! We will be back! And they even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne as we were celebrating a birthday!

George M.

Yelp
We had an absolute wonderful experience staying at the Avalon Hotel this past memorial day weekend. They offer a unique boutique hotel experience not too far from the action. It is just up the hill from the Metropole which offered a wonderful view of the harbor from the rooftop deck. I highly recommend staying in room 301 or 306 as they are the highest up and face the ocean, but any of the rooms would be great. I am usually not a fan of standard included continental breakfast. I would say this was elevated above the standard fare because they offered hard boiled eggs and really good costa rican coffee. Evelyn and Shane were very helpful explaining all the amenities during check in and with recommendations around the island. Even before we arrived, they spent a good amount of time on the phone with me as I was planning the trip. Later in the trip, we also met the owners hanging out by the beautiful courtyard. Kathleen and Rock were very gracious hosts. Twenty years ago, we used to stay at the Inn at Mt Ada. We have now found our new favorite place and will definitely be staying at Avalon Hotel when we return.

Megan G.

Yelp
I LOVED my stay at the Avalon hotel! The staff was so friendly and attentive. I noticed that they remembered each guest by name and greeted them by name, which made me feel at home. It is about a 5-minute walk from the ferry and they will pay for your taxi to and from if you decide you don't want to walk. The continental breakfast is great and the rooftop patio is a beautiful place to hang out in the evening. The bed was very comfortable. Two things I loved in terms of cleanliness of the room were the UV charging boxes for the TV remote and your belongings and the purple light in the bathroom that kills bacteria. It was also a plus that the complimentary toiletries included a body scrub. The only issue I encountered was that one day I discovered the door to my room was accidentally left open and unlocked after housekeeping was done. I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but an important detail they should pay attention to. Overall, 10/10 would stay again.

Jesse B.

Yelp
Came to Catalina for a one night getaway. Avalon Hotel was beyond amazing. Very personal touch with everything. Super hospitable and a very cozy atmosphere. The roof top deck might be the best spot in the city. Everything is nearby and very walkable. Honestly can't say enough. Do yourself a favor and stay here.

Susan S.

Yelp
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Avalon Hotel this week. Everyone who works there was courteous and went the extra mile for us when we needed anything. We arrived early in the day and our rooms weren't quite ready, so they called us as soon as the rooms were available (which was still well before the scheduled check-in time). The staff were polite and knowledgeable about Catalina's history and were genuinely welcoming. One employee even helped us figure out how to use our air conditioner (it won't come on if any doors or windows are open because of the system's sensors, and our open bathroom window was preventing the system from coming on). Even though she was technically "off the clock" for the evening, she was pleasant and helpful. The view from our room was spectacular, and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony overlooking the harbor. We had everything we needed, plus nice little extras that made us feel pampered. The bathrobes were nice quality as were the personalized "Avalon" soaps and amenities. The pretty "Hotel Avalon" coffee mugs in the room were a nice touch. The hotel room had gorgeous wood furniture, and even though the room was small, there was plenty of storage. The hallway walls are adorned with historic photos of Catalina and we enjoyed learning about the island and taking a step back in time. Watching the sunset and enjoying the night stars from the 4th floor rooftop was another favorite part of the trip. We got to sit back, relax, and catch up with our family members (the four of us hadn't been together for over 2 years). The continental breakfast in the courtyard was nice, and we enjoyed the beautiful koi pond. The other guests at the hotel were personable, and our stay was really great. We will definitely stay here on return trips to the island. I'll always cherish the memories of my first Catalina sunrise from our room at the Avalon Hotel.

Trina K.

Yelp
Delightful, relaxing and picturesque. These words best describe my time at Avalon and Catalina Island. This boutique hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. I decided to embark on a last minute girls getaway and found myself with a limited number of hotel options on opening weekend. After searching various sites (Catalina Chamber, Yelp, Travelocity and TripAdvisor), we collectively decided to book a few separate rooms at Avalon with partial views of the ocean. Photos do not adequately display the beauty of this property. The light fixtures have pics of the island. No detail is missed. It's pretty awesome. Decor aside, the hotel offers complimentary taxi service to and from the boat terminal, free breakfast, snacks, Snapple drinks, body scrubs and books( to enjoy while there) and a wine and cheese happy hour (HH on weekdays only). Add to that there's an adorable Inn Keeper on site and koi pond. My only displeasure was having to always take a flight of stairs (no elevator). On weekends, there is generally a two night minimum and on holidays the minimum is three nights which is on par with most properties on the island. But if you attempt to make travel accommodations at the last minute (like we did) and there are rooms available, you may be able to stay for fewer nights. Every aspect of this stay was magical particularly given the history and connection Catalina has to the Chicago Cubs and The Wrigley Family. Seeing bison roam freely, the casino with no gambling and a place in Los Angeles County laced with golf carts and tiny cars was all made better by the smiles, warmth and care exhibited by every employee of this property. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept on and the modern bathroom amenities were just as impressive. I love Avalon and have no doubt that you will too!

Krista L.

Yelp
Just finished out 2 night stay at the Avalon hotel and by far the best hotel we have been too Staff amazing Room amazing Service was the best we have ever received from a hotel We will be back to stay at the Avalon definitely 100% awesome

Mark A.

Yelp
What an awesome hotel! Too many awesome amenities to list I will let you be surprised. Very clean, very comfortable, very enjoyable. Thank you Rock and all the staff for a job well done, no wonder you are rated number one on the island. You deserve it.

Justin S.

Yelp
Stayed here for an anniversary visit on Catalina Island. It was our first time here, and I would definitely come back. - The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. - The rooftop deck is a great place to drink some wine and revel at the island, especially at night. - Rooms are clean and luxurious.

Brian W.

Yelp
My favorite place to stay on Catalina. Great roof top hang out...kind of an old spot but is has massively nrw updates on all the rooms. Great views of the water and a helpful staff. It is slightly more expensive than some of the spots on Catalina, but not so much that it should deter u from staying here. The prices are competitive but you're likely getting the best Hotel in Avalon

Rick B.

Yelp
Me and my fiance recently got engaged on catalina island and we stayed at this hotel. Stacy at the front desk was so kind and helpful to us that we just had to leave a 5 star review. If we could leave a thousand star review we would just on account of Stacey! Absolutely above and beyond.

Basil N.

Yelp
The Avalon Hotel is thoroughly charming. It's a small property, only 15 rooms. Our room was very nice with a king bed, ceiling fan, large flat-screen TV and everything you expect from a good-quality hotel (refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, safe for valuables, a generous collection of bath amenities, sweets on the nightstand, and so forth). We had a Garden View room, which is their least-expensive scenic option, and the view was still great. The place was tidy and quiet, yet it was only about 200 feet from Avalon's main street. Comp breakfast was in the garden from 7a to 10a, and it was a nice mix of bagels, muffins, jams, cereals, yogurts and such. There are two toasters so you can toast-to-taste. Small touches like linen napkins make the experience even more luxurious. And you can always take your breakfast up to the roof and enjoy a full panorama of the town and the cove. Check in and check out were fast. Booking the room was super-easy. The hotel website functions well, and they have an online list of every room available so you can book a favorite room. They'll store your bags on the day you leave so you don't have to drag bags around if your boat leaves late. The hotel has tea and coffee 24-7 in the lobby. Note that the hotel doesn't have an elevator so rooms are accessible only via stairs. And all rooms are non-smoking (which we appreciated). This place is awesome! We enjoyed our stay and we plan to return.

Michael T.

Yelp
This hotel has, bar none, the best rooms on Catalina Island! I've stayed everywhere in Avalon, and the design, attention to detail (check out the inlaid tiles in the wainscoting and the sea scape along the road below the 1st floor deck), and service to go with it is unequalled. If you are planning a stay in the island, your search for a hotel should start with The Avalon Hotel. The place is frequently booked - rightfully so - but I'd actually schedule my visit around availability here.

Curt A.

Yelp
We stayed at the Avalon Hotel for my wife's birthday this earlier this week. This was our 2nd stay here. The staff is top notch and friendly. The rooftop deck is outstanding! So many little extras in the room and free taxi to and from the ferry! The Koi pond is awesome. It was nice to have a breakfast on site. Coffee really good. Our bed was a bit soft, memory foam worn? I'm sure they will update soon. We will be back for our 3rd stay soon.

John M.

Yelp
My wife and I spent our anniversary at this hotel. It was a great time. Room was very clean and the staff was exceptionally kind. The breakfast was great too. I must thank Brad P whose review inspired us to stay here. Even though he didn't like it, we did. I will definitely recommend this place to all of our friends and family. Perfect location and excellent views from the third floor. My wife and I are definitely coming back here.

Heather W.

Yelp
5 stars all the way! Cleanliness 5 stars Staff 5 stars Location 5 stars Linens 5 stars Comfort 5 stars We loved this quaint hotel that offers taxi service to and from the boat at no extra charge. Wine tastings in the garden at 4pm and breakfast each morning in the garden. They also stock the fridge with a couple bottled waters and sparkling waters daily. The bathroom is stocked with high quality linens, bathrobes, soaps, body scrub, body butter, lotions, shampoo and condoner. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows to choose from. They also have a beach bag, beach towels and beach chairs right in room which was super convenient. The deck off our room was our favorite spot during our stay.

Thegee G.

Yelp
Trust me, I really try to rate my reviews honestly and from first hand experience. I know all the reviews listed in Yelp are all 5 stars which leaves no room for improvement. My review is as follows: 10 Stars for staff - you couldn't have hired a better group of individuals, being an Human Resources Professional I know it takes a certain personality to be in a service position. Totally in love with Evelyn, Tutuia (forgive me if this is misspelled), Kim and Sean. For some reason, Rock when he first encountered us, said nothing. Later on, when we were having breakfast, I kinda forced a conversation and he opened up a bit. This is odd for being the owner. 5 Stars Continental Breakfast - available, (this is big for me, some run too early and by the end there is nothing left) Food is fresh and upscale, not the Costco versions of pastries. Coffee good and strong. All the things one might look for at home. Loved it! 5 Stars Bathroom - quaint, loved the sink, tub and bathrobes! Lots of light, blow dryer and steamer. The mirror were cool with the built lights. 3 Stars Bed - now, I did see lots of compliments for the memory foam beds but if you have back problems, they are too soft, hard to get into and out of especially if the bed is unusually high, with a chest style bedframe. The murphy bed had a slight elevation for the head area which was not adjustable causing your back to curve. Maybe have alternate beds available for this type of guest. When brought to Rock's attention about ADA needs, he simply said, if you are disabled, this is not your hotel. I'm sorry, but as I mentioned, I am a Human Resources Professional and this was unacceptable and kinda rude. 5 Stars - for property location, cleanliness and the coy pond was a real relaxing addition. I guess if you are there for Island activities, the TV isn't real important however, we could never get the TV's volume to get loud enough to hear it. Overall, I would absolutely come back, if they let us after this review. Gee

Yelp
We enjoyed this hotel very much, spending 2 nights in early Feb. 2022. Notable aspects: - The room is spacious, has a view of the bay from the balcony, and has a great bathroom. - Everything in the room and the common areas was SPOTLESS. This was the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. - The mattress was some sort of memory foam, unlike a standard hotel bed. - Breakfast was quite good. I particularly liked the homemade muffins. - Location is great, as it's close to everything but not on top of loud businesses. The motorized golfcarts going up and down the hill were a bit annoying but only when the sliding door was open; the room is pretty soundproof when the door and window are closed. - I appreciated the fact that the room rate included roundtrip ferry fare for two. It also included taxi fare to and from the boat landing, but we chose to walk (5-10 pleasant minutes). - Yes there was a 1776 Report book in the room, which I thought was odd, but nobody was in our face about political views. - Yes the owner never wore a mask in our presence, while his staff all did, so we just kept at a distance. All in all I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
We had an absolutely lovely stay here. This is the nicest place we have stayed in Catalina and we've been coming for 15 years. The property is nicely appointed and the rooms are cozy. From the minute you walk into this property it is clear that the staff is extremely attentive to detail and to the comfort of its guests. The amenities are great, with a simple but satisfying breakfast, afternoon happy hour (weekdays) and so many delightful little touches in the room, including complimentary refreshments in the fridge. The staff is warm, friendly, and engaged. We loved the koi pond and the rooftop deck. We will be back!!!

Yelp
I wish there were more than 5 stars that I could use for this review! Avalon is our favorite "Stay Cation" destination. Whether planned or last minute, the island never disappoints. Earlier this month it was a last minute trip that landed us at the Avalon Hotel. It's common that the hotel is booked solid in June so we were very excited. What a lovely experience. The staff from top to bottom are some of the friendliest and most accommodating I I have ever encountered, 24 hours a day. Erica and Evelyn were our day and night friendly faces greeting us as we came and went. Great suggestions and ready to help with any request. The beautiful views, the decor, the upkeep, the attention to detail are just some of the fantastic bullet points! The rooftop was the perfect place at sunset with a bottle of wine, the breakfast patio very cozy and comfortable. Can't say enough, we will be making more of an effort to book in advance to make sure we can stay with these great folks!

Yelp
The best hotel I've ever stayed at in Avalon and the only one I'll stay at in the future. The service is excellent, the location is great, and the rooms are perfect. Every aspect of the room has been thoughtfully curated; the drinking glasses, beverages in the fridge, the pillows, the linens and towels, bathrobes, bowl of candies bedside next to wine glasses and bottle opener, huge balconies with comfortable chairs and a go-pack of towels and chairs for the beach, and the hotel is currently using blue UV light Covid enhancements for the TV remote and bathroom. There's a 360 degree view from the rooftop deck (open until 10am), coffee and tea in the lobby, and breakfast served outside on the lobby patio until 10am. There isn't an elevator, so the third floor might not make sense if you have bad knees, but this hotel is worth every step! Note: During the off-season most restaurants and stores close early, so shop ahead and go to the local Von's (closes at 11pm), and if the weather gets windy the ferries stop running, so make sure to call first.

Yelp
Beautiful, cozy, romantic getaway. Exceptional service complimentary continental breakfast and quiet rooms...... the most disappointing thing to me is spending a lot of money on a room only to have noisy neighbors ruin the trip, it was SILENT and wonderful for two tired parents in desperate need of R&R WONDERFUL AND EXCEPTIONAL

Yelp
Stayed at Avalon Hotel May 17 to 19, 2023 and had a fantastic time. This boutique hotel right in town was awesome. Clean, bright, with lots of detail that gives this place some comfort and character. In particular, the manager (Wendy) was super nice and helpful and gave us lots of advice and recommendations on places to eat, etc. And each evening we enjoyed a glass of wine on the rooftop deck with a gorgeous 360 degree view of the town and the harbor. The only suggestions I have are 1) to make the garden courtyard area non-smoking. During our entire stay there was someone smoking in the courtyard and so we had to keep our windows closed due to the smoke rising up into our room, and 2) Most of the breakfast was highly processed, high carb and high sugar options. Try to add some healthier options, like at least some nuts, berries, and plain no sugar yogurt. Thank you.

Yelp
The Avalon Hotel is one of the absolute best GEMS on the Island. We have stayed on the Island for generations...there are several excellent hotels, but we love the personal touch and attention to detail here! Both my husband and I travel frequently throughout the country for work and leisure, we have pretty high standards. Always clean, and not ever a detail overlooked for comfort or quality/cleanliness. Attentive and friendly staff and owners. Highly recommend! For a special occasion, request the ocean-view room (think it was 301?)

Yelp
Owners an ass hole simple. We were 24 minutes past our check out and he walked in unannounced while wife was naked changing. Stood in our room and proceeded to tell us "we were either gone in 5 minutes or the police will ensure it." Absolute creep

Yelp
This place is fantastic! From the minute you check-in (or drop your bags), you feel very comfortable and welcomed. After a quick check-in, we were offered complimentary snacks, coffee, and tea in the lobby. Then we were walked to our rooms which are beautiful and comfy. The creature comforts inside were a pleasant surprise: complimentary Snapples, water, popcorn, chocolate, and taffys. There were plenty of toiletries, big comfy robes, and a ridiculous amount of pillows. Our 2nd floor room had a sliding glass door that overlooked the courtyard with a pretty decent view of the harbour. Breakfast was a pleasure as well: fresh fruit, breads, hardboiled eggs, good jams, oj, milk, and a fantastic locally made cereal. Their rooftop deck is the cherry on top! We grabbed some beer and the popcorn from the room and headed up!! Not sure why no one else was up there, but I think its my favorite part of the hotel. Beautiful view!!! In closing, I think this is the only hotel I'll be staying at on Catalina in the future. Fantastic serveice, quaint but stunning hotel, and beautiful outlook!

Yelp
Laurie (and the rest of the staff) were what made our visit here amazing. They went above and beyond for my boyfriend and I to ensure our stay was memorable. We arrived to a room with champagne and rose pedals, and had all the amenities we needed to maximize our time on the island. Beach chairs and towels, large balcony, complimentary happy hour, free breakfast, and snacks in the lobby. The location was great too, only a short walk to the heart of Avalon and the roof deck provided panoramic views of the island. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. Customer service was great, and the rooms were well maintained and clean. The hotel has the Craftsman design with lots of detail, very beautiful.

Yelp
My husband and I spent the weekend here for an anniversary trip and we were not disappointed. It's a little farther away from the main drag, allowing us to have undisturbed sleeps. Checkin and check out were seamless with them holding bags while the room was being cleaned upon arrival and while we were waiting for our ferry to depart. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, pointing out COVID features, letting us know about Friday happy hour, where the rooftop deck was and our free refreshments in the rooms. We loved the rooftop deck and enjoyed the koi pond during breakfast. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.
