The Backyard Smokehouse Toronto

Stopped by this place after seeing they had halal brisket, but ended up ordering the smoked chicken poutine instead. The food was good. I didn’t notice the saltiness at first, but it started to taste a bit too salty halfway through; not sure if it’s supposed to be like that or if this place just makes it that way. Overall, I had a pleasant experience, and the waitress was a really nice lady. Not suitable for large groups as the place itself is tiny, see the video.

Service was amazing. Maria is a sweetheart and super friendly and attentive. The food was on point! We got brisket, smoked chicken, Mac n cheese, mushroom confit, sweet potato fries, and it came with sliders, garlic bread, toast, and cornbread. That cornbread!!! Ooooff! I’m so glad we came in. It’s a very cute spot in a very cute neighborhood.

I live close by but never had the chance to check out this place. Visited on a random day after work, ordered a standard signature burger with sweet potato fries, and OMG it was way above my expectation! Crispy fries, juicy and huge beef patty with some caramelized onions, perfect for a quick EOD escape meal (though my gym coach would hate it afterwards). Also great service, was welcomed and served with smile. Definitely will come back soon!

We were a group of 4 and we got the Three Yard group meal. It was fantastic! The brisket and Lamb Shank were so tender and tasty! All the sauces were great (each of us had a favorite between the bbq, honey mustard and the hot sauce), the mac and cheese, mushroom confit, curly fries and coleslaw were also very good. Curious to try out the other meat! The staff was very accommodating, didn’t take a long time for us to get our food after ordering and we got water refills super quick without even asking. We will be back to try the other stuff in the menu!

Absolutely amazing experience! Big thanks to Chef Youssef for the incredible food and outstanding quality. Everything was fresh, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. You can truly taste the passion and skill in every dish. The restaurant atmosphere is great, the service is excellent, and the food is simply delicious. Highly recommended — one of the best restaurants in Toronto! I will definitely be coming back again.

I dined alone and sat on the patio, which was quite nice and provided a perfect seat for observing Toronto traffic mania at the intersection of Dupont and Spadina. Service was friendly. Wait was very short. I had the mango mocktail (refreshing), mushroom soup (very good), and pulled beef sandwich (delicious). I would definitely visit again if in the area.

We had our New Year’s dinner at the Backyard Smokehouse…it was perfect! The staff were all lovely. The food was terrific..we had brisket poutine (amazing), backyard hamburger (delicious) and buffalo chicken wings (excellent), followed by a totally decadent chocolate lava cake. Can’t wait to return!

This was our first time in and we absolutely loved it! The food was amazing and fully halal, especially the lamb shank and the mac and cheese. Even better was the service because Jill was an incredible host and we felt very well taken care of. We will definitely be back soon! Also we came around 8pm so there was plenty of street parking close by.

The food here is incredible. Got takeout. Ribs and wings were so good. And the cornbread? Sweet baby Jesus, it was one of the best I've ever had. Worth! Every! Penny! As you can see from the pic, i ate every last crumb of that cornbread in less than five minutes. I was too busy inhaling my food to take pics.

We had a lovely dinner here after visiting nearby Casa Loma. Small and cosy space, and the staff are warm and friendly. We got the brisket, burger and the mac & cheese with a side of curly fries. The brisket was super soft and tender with plenty of flavor. I was craving mac & cheese, and theirs is lovely and gooey, which hits the spot. Would recommend if you are craving simple barbeque staples.

Hmmm my experience is for takeout only. I was intrigued by the lineup I saw a few times walking by this spot and good word of mouth from my friend's also pushed it up the to try list. Hmmm both tries didn't impress much. First time I ordered beef back ribs and they were pathetic. Not sure how to respond with the feedback I thought I should have stuck to mainstream items brisket and chicken Next order I had the combo of the two. Brisket is decent and better than other spots I have tried. Chicken was nothing to write home about. The sides were mediocre as well. 2.5 stars

I thought it was quite good! The spare ribs were falling off the bone, and the two sides (Mac and cheese and baked beans) were flavourful and comforting. It's very easy for the bill to climb - we split the main and two sides between the two of us (absolutely enough food, by the way), and it came out to $30/person.

Service was a little slow, but the staff was friendly. The cornbread was good. I didn't enjoy the Mac and cheese at all. The brisket was good, tender, but it was lacking a little flavour. They give you tons of food. It lasted me three days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a fun experience. The restaurant itself is a little vibe. If you are going with a lot of people it's worth a go.

Unfortunately, there's no Yelp page for the location in Mississauga because hands down the MISSISSAUGA location is the BEST one. I actually went to this location as my first time, and it was an okay experience. I thought it was a very small, narrow space - and the food I had was cooked properly but personal opinion, the food I had did not suite my taste. I find the Mississauga location much more modern, spacious, and the service was much better. I find the staff more personable to be honest. Parking is quite limited on the side street, the first 15 minutes are free - but this place is worthwhile, so it's a must try.

We had lunch here and it was an amazing experience. The service was fast and friendly, but the food was incredible. I had the brisket mac and cheese. Best mac and cheese I've ever had! My daughter had the sliders and she cleared the plate. Fries were crisp and tasty. Even the caesar salad was perfect. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back. It hits the spot

Unfortunately they ran out of the one item we really wanted to try. (Brisket) We ended up ordering the pulled smoked chicken sandwich and the backyard burger. We also ordered the mushroom Mac & cheese. All of it was absolutely incredible!!! I can't speak highly enough of the food. It's outstanding!! The only reason this isn't 5 stars is the fact they didn't have the brisket.

We had brisket burger with Ceasar salad, back yard burger with fries, coleslaw and fried pickles. Food was absolutely delicious. I would order the brisket burger again. Service was good and place feels right. What a nice surprise.

These folks are always busy but also so friendly! Would recommend getting a reservation before going and making sure you're on time because there's always a line up. I waited 45 mins before getting a table for 2. The space is small. The food is great. We got the doubles backyard platter and honestly, it was more than enough! It didn't seem so initially but it was a good quantity and very filling. For the drink we got the mango strawberry lemonade. Best thing so far is that it was halal!

I found the food to be alright. The brisket was very chewy and not cooked well. The service was quick.

I was curious about this place because of the high ratings. I am excited to say this will be my go-to smokehouse BBQ spot! Bonus: it is conveniently accessible by TTC near Dupont Station. Make sure to call in to book a reservation before dining in. Food: The Triples 'For Two' (offers three meats) was plenty enough for 2 people. I would say if you want to eat til 80% full, this can be shared amoung 3 people. If you cannot finish the platter, you can always take it home to save for later. I ate my leftovers the next day and they were just as delicious after warming up in the microwave. The brisket and short ribs were smoked just right - will come back for these meats again. The beef back ribs were sold out so we opted for the chicken. I thought the chicken was on the dry side (I ate them last and by that time they were no longer warm) but eating it warmed up at home made it taste better. The cornbread was so good, it was sweet, soft, and crumbly - I think one of the best I ever tasted. Sweet (potato) fries were crisp and seasoned well. My friend had the Pulled Beef Sandwich for $11 and enjoyed it immensely. Service: The staff here are attentive and so kind. Pricing: The prices are great here especially for the sandwiches/burgers (The Bun Yard)! Will be coming back for sure.

The food here is delicious I was pleasantly satisfied We ordered the triple platter that comes with three different meats two sides as well as cornbread garlic bread and side salad, they describe it as a triple because it's meant for three people we split it between 4 people and we still had a leftovers to take home. We had a presbyterian with us so we also ordered the smoke shrimp. For the meats my favorite were the beefs, the beef rib was so tender and the barbecue sauce they use was not overpowering, the brisket was tender as well as usual but for some reason the rib won my heart. My least favorite was the chicken I didn't find that it was anything you need, but it also didn't taste bad same thing with the shrimp it tasted good but it wasn't anything you need or wow. If you visit order the beef you will not be disappointed. For the sides the cornbread was so tasty everybody agreed that it was so unique it was sweet it was soft and warm inside but then crispy on the edges and then it had a little bit of spice, as if there was jalapenos in there. Next we would say the mac and cheese, it was so creamy and cheesy but also flavorful. The least memorable would be the curly fries and salad LOL Overall everyone at my table said that they would definitely visit again the patio is super cute and we were lucky to get a very nice day in October to sit out there and enjoy it, the waiter we had he was a very kind and patient.

October 13/2021: This was a great experience. Small restaurant not far from Casa Loma but it's a solid restaurant to say! We are on a small outdoor deck that was newly built as everything was secure. I ordered the Beef Brisket Sliders. They came with a mini side of beef brisket & some pickled onions. Awesome slider. Also had the Mac & Cheese (terrific), the Corn Bread, this could use a pick me up, baked beans (in Tomato Sauce). I don't usually like tomato sauce beans but these were good. Great house made BBQ Sauce as well! As a combo meal it was all fantastic. Our server Yahya (John) was very polite & accommodating & did a great job. They had no pork as this was an Arab run restaurant. The chef owner was very nice & easy to talk too. He's doing a stellar job. Only one complaint...if you're gonna serve food as delicious as this...get some better napkins!

I took the first bite and felt the mushrooms and cheese explode in my mouth; the perfectly cooked beef oozed everywhere, and the sweet caramelized onions rounded out the medley. I took a breath and found that I'm living and breathing cow. All I see is cow, and all I want is another burger. That was so good oh my god.

Not the best food quality. Not suitable for dining in either, very small. Overall, would not be going back.

A amazing hidden gem! The quality of the barbecue (brisket, and ribs) are amazing! When we got there they said the brisket was quite ready yet which is a great sign of amazing foods as they have a higher bar for standards. The brisket when served (after waiting for a hour) is tender, juicy, and had great flavour. The sides are all amazing too (Mac and cheese, fries, dolma). Def one of the better barbecue places in Toronto.

Great Birger joint! Ordered their Backyard Smokehouse burger and fries to go and was not disappointed. One of the best burgers I've had in Toronto if not the best. The fries were great too, perfectly done. If you want a great burger this is the place

We got to try a huge platter called 'the whole nine yards' which included beef brisket, beef short ribs, beef back ribs, rotisserie chicken, corn bread, garlic bread and vegetables. We also had a bunch of sides which included Mac and cheese, Caesar salad, coleslaw, smoked corn, curly fries and sweet potato fries. The was some of the best bbq I've had in a long time. Each of the meats were cooked perfectly, so juicy and fall of the bone! The seasoning was great with tons of flavour. The corn bread had jalapeños in it which I loved. The Mac and cheese was so cheesy and delicious. Overall a great bbq spot with tons of options for big or small groups.

These people have great food. But they run out very early. Made a reservation for 6 people for 7:30 Upon arrival we were informed that they had run out of Meat! Only burgers were available. I gave them a second chance.... With their advice I reserved a table and $150 meat plater. We made the truck down town only to find that for a second time they had run out of meat! I had even offered to pay in advance, they said it was not necessary. Beware the menu has many items that are ghosts. They do not nor have they ever had them. Apparently they can not afford to print a corrected menu. They have No honour or integrity!!!! We live 30 minutes away. They said they would call if there was an issue. Then claimed that they called several times. No way.... I phone tracks everything... no call. Ridiculous Not worth the drive Toronto has many restaurants where the owners care about their patrons. Terrible, sad and extremely disappointing.

Very small place, they jammed us into a verrrry tight spot in a nook. I have to say the brisket was yummy albeit dry, but STAY AWAY from the mac & cheese. It was runny like a viscous soup with around 5 pieces of pasta swimming around. i fully agree with another reviewer who said kraft dinner would've been better. we got a tiny side of curly fries which were hard and lacking in any seasoning and they arrived cold, ceasar salad was tiny and nothing to write home about, deep fried pickles order was tiny and again nothing special. wrapping up with a positive though, good cole slaw and i didn't mind it wasn't licensed but would've been nice to have a non-alcoholic beer option rather than just the sweet malt drink.

Mississauga bransh mediocre customer service, store manager is a joke, after the newly untrained waiter spilled drinks over myself and my full plate food, they asked me for the full bill, when I was shooed that this is your response for missing up my dinner and day, they said let me see what the manager would say, I asked to talk to the manager which he never showed up to apologize nor to talk, total disrespect and unprofessional and the maximum he could do is to send me the waiter back to nickel and dime me over the receipt, after bluntly asking for paying the full bill

What a fantastic barbecue joint! We got takeout from these folks earlier this week and we were really blown away by the quality of the food and the sheer amount that we got. We ordered the brisket, short ribs, and bbq'd chicken platter for two. All of the items were perfectly prepared and infused with a smokiness that wasn't overpowering. The dipping sauces ran the gamut from traditional bbq sauce to a unique mustard-based sauce, and all were very tasty. The sides were impressive - Caesar salad, creamy coleslaw, mashed potatoes, corn...the sheer number and quality of the options was pretty amazing. We had enough food for three days, and the price was reasonable for the amount that you get. It's worth noting that the restaurant is halal, so great for anyone who doesn't do pork and has limited options at other bbq joints. We can't wait to order from Backyard Smokehouse again, and to have our friends try it, as well!

I don't order brisket often because it often fails. However, Backyard Smokehouse had the best brisket in Toronto and anywhere for that matter. Since we were from the US, they were very concerned about how we liked it. Everything about this place was excellent. The food, the presentation, and the drinks. We had kids with us as well and they loved everything. Brisket plate, brisket sliders, brisket Mac and cheese, and the cole slaw, were great selections for us. Check it out. And go to Toronto just to try it.

We were really excited about trying this place after reading all of the reviews. I will say I'm from the states so maybe my expectations for good BBQ are too high but this was a disappointment. We ordered two back rib meals plus the sausage and had mashed potatoes, fries, Mac and cheese and baked beans as our sides. Luckily the ribs were very tender and flavorful but that was the only plus. The sides were not very good at all. The sausage looked like burned and dry breakfast sausage and was basically inedible without tons of some type of sauce and even then it was hard to stomach. Ambiance was non existent and all you could hear was the kitchen music blaring. Would not return and it's a shame because the meat was good but everything else was a huge letdown. Good bbq just isn't complete with terrible sides. They also don't have a liquor license which isn't a huge deal but good to know going in. Bummed and don't like to leave negative reviews but we felt duped after reading the amazing reviews and then going in and experiencing it for ourselves so wanted to share the experience.

Making good barbecue is hard. Running a restaurant during a pandemic is hard. I hesitated to write this review but after my second interaction with the management here I felt it was necessary. I placed a simple order for a pound of brisket, nothing fancy. The order took 20+ minutes to get to me. Brisket was dry and rubbery, most of the fat had melted away and it took a lot of chewing to swallow the first bite. The presentation was horrible. Brisket is meant to be thinly sliced and in individual pieces. This was dry and shredded, almost like the mystery brown meat you get at cheap shawarma or gyro spots at 3 am when there's nothing else open. A few pieces had the ring visible but the overall flavour was NOTHING like classic Southern barbecue. It was too salty on the outside, bland on the inside and lacked that natural smoky flavour you want from real barbecue. Here is the worst part. My brisket was topped with... arugula, weird pickles and roasted peppers, onions and some other veggies. It was almost as if they knew their brisket was horrible and they were trying to camouflage it into some fusion brisket medley. Long story short, I took a few bites trying to find a single nibble that didn't taste like rubber, no luck. I walked back and returned their catastrophic medley of foods only to have the management not take my feedback seriously for the first few minutes. I was eventually offered store credit that I declined. I'm definitely not coming back and if anything, I want a refund for the abysmal meal. Seriously, try the barbecue spots near The Beaches or Etobicoke and you will know what I'm talking about. I have tried almost every barbecue spot in the GTA and not a single one has set my expectations this high and delivered such a horrible meal. Their website claims a 30 day aging process to achieve classic southern barbecue but I assure you this is nothing like the real thing.

Been twice so far and sampled several items, all great. Brisket is easily the best I've had in Toronto, better than Barque, Cherry St for sure. Amazing chicken too. Generous portions. Wish they had pork ribs but oh well.
