We are a large Italian family and required a lot of rooms and space so the Carriage House at The Baker House exceeded our needs. From the beautiful grounds, salt water private pool to staff that were 2nd to none-it was an amazing experience. Is ideally located within walking distance to the East Hampton village. Best part though was Anne, the Innkeeper. She was so charming, accommodating, had a great personality and makes the best breakfast! She’s the reason we will surely return.

What a charming and inviting property! The history runs deep through the buildings, and landscaping. We could stay for days, enjoying the hospitality and service! Incredibly comfortable environment and surroundings! Privacy beyond what we expected. And the staff was most attentive to our needs and desires. And, fortunately, bilingual. Our new go to in East Hampton! Thank you everyone for our visit.

Saying the pools are open but arriving to find they are unheated (56 degrees) and unusable is disingenuous! Writing "fresh squeezed orange juice" on the breakfast menu and pouring it out of a container is a questionable practice! The mattresses, pillows, and bedding are sub par (soft and worn). The ceilings in the upstairs rooms in the carriage house are very low. The king size bed is split down middle and uncomfortable. Windows were also sticky and difficult to open for fresh air. Heather took awhile before admitting she was the one who told me over the phone that the "pools are open". She followed that up that the pools are technically open even though they are unswimmable you can still enjoy them????!! This is after a run around about the pipes being irrigated. Heather ended the conversation by saying it must not have been her who said the pools were open. Then she said that from now on they would close the pools when they stop heating them (pandering)! I asked for compensation and, in her words, having worked there for 18 years, she knew better and that the owner would never consider it! Not a great reflection on the owner's part to take responsibility for the errors of her staff! The downstairs jets in the pool do not work and didn't work a year ago. The bath jets in the carriage house room didn't work a year ago. There was too much deniability on the part of management and no offer to make up for their misleading claims. I would have chosen to stay elsewhere where the pool was indeed open and heated had they not mislead me! Paying over $750/night and offering only 2 little complementary bottles of water in the room, says it all!

I spoke with Heather on Thursday night. I expressed interest in a 2 night stay over the weekend. She told me there was availability and followed up that the ´pools are open’. I arrived on Friday and was told that the pools were not heated. It is unusual to swim outdoors in November and as the weather was forecasted to be on the 60s I had looked forward to swimming outdoors. Saturday morning the woman at the desk related that she was telling people the pools are open ´but not heated’ That extra bit of information was left out when I spoke with Heather. She said something about the pool pipes getting irrigated. I sensed a run around starting but she said she would call the owner and ask about heating the pools. I followed up after breakfast and was assured in 3-4 hours the water would be warm. At 4pm the water was still frigid—maybe the temp had risen from 56 to 68 but definitely not swimmable. Sunday morning the water was in the 80s and pleasant to swim in. I did enjoy the pool Sunday morning before checking out. Heather finally admitted it was she who had the conversation with me. She defended her « pools are open » claim to mean a 56 degree pool is one in which guests would enjoy the looks of. While this may have been an innocent optimistic thought, in my view, it was a bait and switch. I asked for a night compensation for a future stay, but she admitted (as stated in another review) that the owner would never approve of this with some implication that they are cheap. Furthermore they advertise ´fresh squeezed’ juice as part of the breakfast which is far from freshly squeezed as it comes in a bottle which the breakfast attendent showed me. Endless jet in the pool downstairs didn’t work a year ago when I was here and didn’t work yesterday either. Bedding is extremely uncomfortable, soft mattresses, soft pillows, (hideous worn looking sleigh bed in the Georgica room) waffle cotton cover felt through the sheets. Grounds and architecture are pleasant. It’s overpriced and they should replace the beds, mattresses etc.

There is a reason The Baker House has been named one of the best of the best by Johansens / Conde Nast past two years! It is a true treasure of an historic property in addition to being an extraordinary, boutique luxury resort… I have personally stayed as a guest, attended events and held our own events here and with everything the level of service / quality of food / amenities and attention to detail let alone the sheer beauty and vintage elegance of this place is 5 star and beyond… If you want to absolutely unwind and relax — and rejuvenate yourself — simple, small and private / elegant is sometimes the best way to do that. My favorite luxury hotel in the Hamptons hands down… Bravo ! 👌

Unfortunately this place has suffered. I stayed here with my husband few times with consistency not been of concern. Today I call to make my last reservation for late fall and was reminded why I don't want to come back with him. The staff treat you like you are inconvenience and a have better things to do. Several weeks ago we staying during an event, Veronica introduced herself as the manager and told me I was able to attend, later I was turned away at the door as it was private party. Kitchen staff and chef have difficult time commentating in English and don't greet you kindly. Today calling them and talking to Veronica again it definitely is time we find a new place to visit. Very Sad.

After a hard year, place recharged my/our batteries! My hubby and I couldn't get to Europe this fall and Baker filled that void for us. Stayed here during the week, the staff couldn't have been more charming. Took a dip in their outdoor pool which was nice and warm, the room was lovely and the chef took care of my GF sensitivity each morning asking what alteration I preferred each breakfast better than the previous day. They were kind enough to make reservations on our behalf and recommend local attractions. The only negative, they wouldn't give the name of the great scent they use on the property was told the brand. Coming back!!
