The fresh seafood was amazing. The oysters were a bit underwhelming, but the prawns and lobster were absolutely fantastic! Make sure to dip them in the sauce! The staff provided excellent service and seemed very confident in their menu recommendations. The only downside was the angle of the outdoor tables—it felt like the food was on the verge of sliding off.

First time back to The Balcony in a while and it did not disappoint, I was so happy to taste such delicious meals. The oysters were mouth-watering and the Crispy Skinned Ocean Trout was one of the best fish dishes I’ve had in a very long time, everything we ordered was full of flavour I was at Rick Shaws the day before and I have to say I preferred The Balcony

Looking for a night out in Byron Bay with amazing food, great vibes, and unforgettable entertainment? Book a table at The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. now – it’s that good! Our harissa grilled chicken and seafood pasta were insanely delicious – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And the tiramisu is perfection you can’t miss. The service was quick, friendly, and seamless - food and drinks arrived fast, keeping everything on point. The highlight? The Drag N’ Dine experience with Kora Kurvacious. Her energy lit up the night with laughs, cheers, and fabulous fun, making it a truly unique evening. Whether you’re local or visiting, The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. is a must for incredible food, stellar service, and iconic entertainment. Don’t miss it!

Google
Great views with an awesome atmosphere right in downtown Byron. The oysters were fresh and were just perfect for the sunset. The fried octopus was very tasty, with the batter being well seasoned and complimented with the refreshing sauce. The stracciatella mozzarella and tomatoes were delicious and recommendable. The wagyu left something to be desired, very tender. However, could have been seasoned a bit more. The fries were crispy and very tasty. Recommend this place for the vibe (live music), the view, and the oysters!

The Balcony Bar is the perfect place to re-hydrate on a hot day. A fabulous location to watch the hustle and bustle that is Byron Bay. Great service by friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. We had a very enjoyable afternoon.

Google
Absolutely love the service. Classic margaritas never disappointed.Oyster was outstanding and very fresh. Grilled fish, smoked trout was yum. sadly my moreton bay pasta was too salty for my liking.

Google
Iconic Byron Bay restaurant. A very cool and beautiful atmosphere. The food is very tasty. A must-see place.

Google
Overall 4 stars. When we ordered, the waiter forgot that we had ordered hot tea, and we waited for a long time for it to be served, but eventually we didn't get it. The spaghetti was good (but we found a small stone halfway through the meal), so we were shocked and the waiter told us that the dish will be free. The fried calamari was good, but the portion was very small.

Yelp
As an American staying and traveling around Australia, this place had by far the best drinks, food, service, view and atmosphere. Picky eater friendly, highly recommend.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch. The seafood tower app was amazing. Expensive but really good. Our nicoise salad was delicious. We were in no rush and the lunch was leisurely. It was my birthday and they brought me a fun cocktail (they gave me a choice of a few and I chose a Negroni) with a sparkler in it and sang. What a lovely surprise.

Yelp
Great cocktails and a great range of food! Serving sizes were very good. I would definitely come back here. They also have vegan options!

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Great place for drinks. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine form Australia (tyrell's "Moore's creek") and was listening to the music here. The music is energetic without being clubby. I also heard that people watching from the balcony is quite good.

Yelp
Food was OK. Entertainment was great. Prices were unreasonable. Service was good. Always love going here but was disappointed this time.

Yelp
I'd love to give 4 stars but a few things are holding me back. First is the price. My porchetta main needed some chats, sweet potato or chips to accompany it. Alas it is one of those restaurants that serves a smaller amount and offers sides as extras. Being a hungry girl I ordered the duck fat potatoes to complete my meal. They were good but not $12 good. My partners pasta was possibly more disappointing. I will make it clear however that he really enjoyed it but what I tried was undercooked and definitely needed more prawns for $34. It was also supposed to be penne but maybe they ran out as it was not that. Byron Bays boycott on coke..... yet another venue that favours Pepsi. My partner ordered lemonade instead which he never does but it was the only other drink that appealed at the time. Other than that the restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere, great music, catered to kids (which I didn't expect) and a daily happy hour between 4 - 6pm. Drag and Dine Sunday's from 7pm which I didn't get to experience but having tried Tranny Bingo in Potts Point I imagine it would be an amusing night.

Yelp
This has a great atmosphere (of the balcony) but the food was so so. I had the crab meat salad and was not impressed. Little pieces of crab , didn't taste great and fresh. The salad could have used more acid or seasoning. My partner had the fish and chips were which very tasty. I recommend adding hot sauce to the tartar for an extra treat. Our server was nice but messed up putting in the order, so a fish taco came out rather than his fish and chips. I had a glass of wine and he had a margarita inside a coconut, which he wasn't impressed with either.

Savannah S.

Yelp
Gave me a drink with VODKA when I'm pregnant. I absolutely do not trust this restaurant. I drank a drink with two shots of vodka when I asked for no alcohol. It wasn't until I order my second that I saw them pour Smirnoff into my drink and I confronted them. They've subjected my baby to fetal alcohol syndrome and weren't even really sorry about it. This was around 3pm today.

Tommy S.

Yelp
Christina was great!! Thank you for the service! We all had a great night and loved the legendary tomahawk! - Tomahawk

Yelp
Was supes excited to try this place because it's a "gotta go"/iconic spot in Byron. Went for lunch and we were not impressed. Our server sat us down at this tiny table saying it was the only one available when massive tables around us were empty (?) - we asked to move anyways. Zucchini and prawn noodles were aight! Very garlicky but healthy and filling but my pal ordered their famous crab tacos that weren't good: super small portions, very bland taste, sitting in a pool of ice. Brussels sprouts came listed with "jamon" on the menu (my friend didn't speak English and didn't know jamon was bacon which she can't religiously have) and we had to send it back and the server just didn't have it and was really very rude about it, even though my friend was super apologetic. They offered to remake the brussel sprouts sans jamon and omg they were undercooked and complete mush. Even seeing the completely full brussel sprouts plate the server didn't really care to ask how we liked it. Just a completely meh lunch.

Yelp
Wonderful meal at Balcony Bar with our incredible waitress Adriana. She was attentive and had great menu recommendations! My only complaint is it's BYOK (Bring Your Own Koalas)

Purple C.

Yelp
Balcony's menu offers a wide selection of oysters, seasonal flavours, tapas, salads, charred and bone pieces, lamb, crab... just check out their menu here. They serve during breakfast, lunch and dinner. We got ourselves some oysters, which was delish by the way! Food and drinks were served on time, the setting was tastefully done and shout out to our waitstaff that night Jay! Do try their cocktails, nothing beats cocktails after a day exploring the area... Read: https://purplecuriosity.wordpress.com/2019/04/21/the-balcony-bar-oyster-co/

Yelp
Great venue. Funky vibe, great staff, busy but all works well. All the food was excellent, with generous portions and each dish had some flair. Would recommend

Yelp
A 'must do' they said...huh.. give this place a miss folks. Much hyped, but sadly over priced and was not a memorable dining experience at all. We were made to wait..a long time for a table when there were many many empty tables all around us. Granted there are bookings but these table remained empty as we we left after our meal.. wtf? Food was good but portions really small. You might need to frequent the Kekab place downstairs for a more filling meal afterwards. The service was lacking. Our waitress rude and condescending.. she acted like she was doing us a favour by letting us in to the place and even more so for serving us. But ultimately, I sincerely advise you not to waste your time or your money on this over priced and totally unworthy of its reputation restaurant. Go elsewhere and enjoy better food, better service and better value for money. A definite ' must NOT do' when in Byron.

Yelp
Well in partial to a long Boozey lunch and this place did not let down my high expectations. Starting off with a lovely glass of Prosecco from King Valley and moving into some share plates was just what this lovely Anzac Day needed. Natural Oysters - great start Duck Lover Parfait - AMAZE Chilli crab tacos - On Point Beetroot, goats, mint and chilli Salad - Devine This followed on from a Chilli Coconut cocktail served in a coconut finished my lunch off in style. I had been here the night before for some cocktails and we did share the Chocolate Brownie with the most amazing ice cream topped with corn flakes - one of the best desserts I've had in. While. The Espresso Martini was totally on point here - the best I had in Byron for the weekend and the Southern Belle was also lovely. Can't wait for another trip to Byron and The Balcony

Kimi R.

Yelp
This place was amazing!!!! Try the bloody mary or spicy margarita. The popcorn cauliflower and crab salad was also incredible.

Yelp
I went here for breakfast, and I'd say while the food is reasonably tasty, the menu lacked variety. I had the large breakfast that includes bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, a slice of tomato and toast. The mushrooms were fantastic and the slice of tomato was nicely grilled as well. Most importantly the two eggs were perfectly poached. Unfortunately, the sausage was a bit mushy and tasted similar to what you'd find in any grocery store's frozen food aisle. Interestingly the veggies were the star of this breakfast despite the menu focusing primarily on meat eaters. I found the menu rather limiting, especially for vegetarians with a large appetite. In addition to the large breakfast they only had 3 other entrees: toast with mushrooms & goat cheese, toast with avocado & tomato, and eggs benedict with ham, bacon or salmon. Now if you'd like a large vegetarian breakfast you are out of luck because they don't allow substitutions for vegetarians in the big meat eaters breakfast. Of course, you can make your own large vegetarian breakfast, by ordering all items al la carte, for about twice the price of the meat version, but that hardly seems fair. Not all vegetarians are on a diet, some have quite large appetites. Most restaurants are pretty good about accommodating vegetarians, this restaurant isn't for breakfast. I also ordered a fresh watermelon juice, which came in a small glass and was mostly ice.

Yelp
Unfortunately all of the other reviewers are spot on-- amazing vantage point of Byron if you're outside and cool vibe, but the service and food are noticeably underwhelming. In the evening with a cool breeze this would be a great place to grab a cocktail and perhaps an appetiser, but the food we ordered (seafood stew, gnocchi) seemed heavy, overly seasoned and a bit over cooked. It's sad when the standout dish of the evening is a simple rocket and Parmesan salad! Maybe check out for a cocktail but head elsewhere for food in Byron !

Yelp
The Balcony Bar's location is the one, lone redeeming quality. The food was bad and the service was even worse. It took a solid 15-20 minutes for our server to even acknowledge us. We ordered tapas and main dishes. After finishing our tapas and waiting another 15-20 minutes, our waitress came by and asked "Will there be anything else?" She forgot to order the main dishes we had been waiting for. Once we finally got our food, the rabbit was cold and dry. The gnocchi wasn't gnocchi. It was some weird mashed potato type thing that was awful. Both were sent back and we decided to just leave and get a snack elsewhere. To top it off, the waitress messed up our bill. The location is nice, but not nice enough to warrant the horrible service and exorbitant prices they charge for mediocre drinks and terrible food. I got a way better meal for 10 bucks across the street at the little Mexican food joint. I don't usually spend time writing reviews ... But this place was so bad that I couldn't let it slide.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic, we went in for lunch and didn't want to leave! The pumpkin pasta and the anti pasti plates were delicious. So many different types of prosciutto and salami I was in heaven! And I always love a place that remembers to give you melon with your prosciutto! We sat on the balcony and watched the weather change repeatedly, sunny stormy rainy and windy but when we left the sun had come back out. Only downside is the staff vanish without a trace whenever you want a glass of wine but the atmosphere was so good it was ok

Sean T.

Yelp
Superb setting, awesome cocktails, great atmosphere but the food and service are too inconsistent to get them a forth star. I have had wonderful (and witty) service there, but also been ignored for far too long. Go there for drinks, bites and good conversation as you watch the Byron masses walk by.

Victoria C.

Yelp
I've been to balcony twice & once was outstanding and once was totally underwhelming. The first time the food was bland, the waitress was disinterested and the whole experience sucked. The second time the food was delicious, the waitress was lovely & very attentive (without being overbearing). The cocktails were great both time- pricy without a happy hour ($17 on average). The food is also pricy ($35 average for a main) which is fine when it's great but annoying when it's not. We sat outside both times and that was great because the atmosphere is wonderful. As everyone has said, Balcony is very central & is lovely to sit at with a vantage point over the Byron main Street.

Giselle R.

Yelp
The Espresso Martini's are a must have here. Such a perfect afternoon to sit and chat with a perfect date.

Midnight B.

Yelp
This place is nothing special I think the best part about it is that it's upstairs and you can see the whole city when you're sitting and having drinks and dinner. The food itself wasn't so impressive. I had a beer and I think a white wine but it was nothing to write home about. I think over all there aren't a lot of amazing food options in Byron Bay and stuff is generally a little pricier than usual so it was nice to have the open view and get fresh air especially since the weather is always perfect.

Yelp
I ate at the Balcony for the first time this week during my visit to Byron Bay. This restaurant had been highly recommended to me so I was really looking forward to it. I loved the vibe of the place! Cool outdoor seating and the staff were all incredibly friendly. I will say that I ordered a salad that was SO salty it was completely inedible. I didn't complain or send it back, but when the waitress cleared our table and asked if my uneaten salad was alright, I told her. She said, "OK I'll let the chef know." The salad was still on my bill and I was a bit surprised that they wouldn't either try and fix it, or as a courtesy, take it off my check. My friend got the steak and LOVED it. We also split a bottle of red wine and it was absolutely fantastic. All in all it was a great evening and I'd definitely go back and give it another go.

Cindy B.

Yelp
Wonderful happy hour and tapas menu. Great place for breakfast too. Try a nice bloody Mary with breakfast as well, great hair of the dog!

M J.

Yelp
Let's not muck around: Pro - great Mojitos Con - not part of Happy Hours selections Pro - great ambience Con - food is very mediocre

Kym O.

Yelp
The Balcony offers an amazing setting in the heart of Byron, and every time I'm in Byron I go to have a She's Apples cocktail - cloudy apple juice, vanilla vodka and other goodies in a cinnamon rimmed glass. Pure heaven. This time I was dining alone (on an amazing solo mini-break) and managed to get there during happy hour. My favourite cocktail wasn't on special, but two tapas were - the flat bread and dips and Spicy Calamari. Both were ok, though not outstanding. The calamari was a bit greasy. Service was attentive without being too pushy. I will be back - that cocktail is too good to stay away.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Had a killer lunch here today. Pumpkin risotto with seafood mixed throughout and what tasted like goat cheese purée, or something very similar. Our other plate was yellowfin tuna over roasted potatoes and veggies and they sure knew how to cook it medium rare. Mixed with a green spinach pesto sauce, I was melting. All this topped off with freshly baked bread with an assortment of dips and spices, a bottle of toasty Shiraz to accelerate my floaty mood, and an afternoon sudden downpour to match the balmy summer day. Not a bad 'welcome to byron bay' lunch to make me feel - even more than I already do - at home sweet home.

Yelp
This place was full of drunk schoolies to start with .. i ordered the mushroom gnocchi and it was revolting! I didn't see the fine print to start with saying the gnocchi are made from ricotta .. not only was that fowl but the mushroom sauce was so damn bitter it made the dish hard to swallow .. i told the waiter how bitter my food was and he didn't care less so i just pushed it away .. bad bad food

Steph H.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere for a big gathering and very attentive friendly service.Lovely place to sip cocktails (on the spacious if not somewhat lean-to balcony). However, especially for Byron, we were surprised to discover the absence of creative vegan meal options.Even the chips were fried in duck fat. When faced with the option of a $20 bowl of salad, opted instead to eat at home.Look forward to seeing a new look menu next time

Cody N.

Yelp
Breakfast was brutal. Way over priced. They say that they make the eggs THE WAY YOU WANT. Ordered eggs benedict medium came out cold and barely cooked. Would recommend a breakfast kebab instead.

Ando J.

Yelp
Where to begin. Came for Happy hour one night and had to leave 30 minutes later very Unhappy. Happy hour cocktails- they are half the price, because they serve you 1/3 the amount. Ordered a margarita and thought I just received a shot of tequila. The glass was half empty. What the heck is that about!! If your gonna rip us off atleast buy smaller glasses so we cannot tell! Nevertheless; the experience was also high pressured, the customers are cornered to order more mid-conversation with their friends. Get some chill! Avoid this place unless you like to throw money down toilets. In which case this place is for you

John F.

Yelp
Nice view of the street corner. Food was average. Mussels were undercooked. Several were unopened. The shrimp tapas was very good. Lots of roasted garlic spread on bread was a nice finish. Service was good until I needed the bill. So just got up and paid.

Dave C.

Yelp
Went for dollar oysters and drinks on a beautiful afternoon, Balcony did not disappoint. The perfect place to spend some time while the sun goes down enjoying the ambiance and happy hour oysters and drinks. Looking forward to trying the tapas menu.

Zoe E.

Yelp
Lovely meals. Not a huge menu and a bit pricey but was worth every cent. We ordered the eye fillet steak and the calamari as a main with chips. Food was delicious, beer cold and staff were lovely. Couldn't fault it to be honest.

Michael F.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in Byron Bay and def one of the most popular. Its upstairs on the corner in the middle of toen, so its great for people watching (and there's plenty to watch in Byron :) The food is great and generous and a full licensed bar. Its a busy restaurant with a friendly vibe. You will probably need to book if you want to eat there (unless its winter when its a lot quieter)
