I had the best drink in the world here (amaretto sour). The atmosphere was just as good and you can even bowl here like you’ve never bowled before. There’s cornbread pizza by the slice and a really nice menu of reasonably priced options. Nothing like it around!

Hidden gem in The Dalles! Super great staff, met the new owner and really great people. Best atmosphere to be found in town. Worth the stop, awesome late night pizza and beer with a chill atmosphere. I’m sure this place is a local favorite and if you’re looking for a warm place to stop on a cold night, you found THE ONE! Pizza was amazing!

Fun place to relax and have a drink, play a game of pool, shuffle board, or bowling. You must try their pulled pork nachos! Closes at midnight.

Best bar in town. Dim lighting, amazing atmosphere, great employees and beautiful outdoor seating. Not to mention the beautiful artwork. Great spot.

Husband loved his burger and fries. He very, very rarely likes anything that much. My burrata salad was okay. Peach cocktail was okay. Friendly and helpful staff. Wish service was a bit faster, but they were just opening so maybe not quite ready yet.

The atmosphere is pretty fun--like an old saloon, with lots of paintings on the walls. The food was pretty tasty, and the portion sizes were ok for the prices. The appetizers seemed pretty small, especially for the price. Part way into our dinner, the piano started playing--it was a fun element, but definitely made the restaurant a lot louder and talking a bit harder. We discovered the pianist had to scale a ladder to a platform to play. That's dedication! 😁 All in all, it was a pretty good experience.

Google
Baldwin saloon is absolutely lovely. Great food, and lovely atmosphere. Sitting outside was perfect. The fried oysters are delicious. The mango cocktail is very nice. Their table bread is light fluffy bread balls. The desserts were delicious too.

We got a bit stranded, driving an EV and all the chargers were either broken or taken. We parked the car near the charging station at the park, and Baldwin Saloon was nearby, so we thought we'd kill some wait time there and have dinner and a drink. first, the atmosphere is really great, with art hung everywhere, but still a casual pub-type vibe. Shuffleboard, a vintage bowling game, and pool were available to play. I had the Cubano sandwich, and it was so good, I want another, as I write this. My fiance had the grilled cheese with tomato soup and said it was really good. If it hadn't been for the charging situation in The Dalles, we never would have discovered this gem!

Yelp
We visited the Baldwin Saloon in June of 2022. Loved the food and the ambiance. Great old saloon and the service was great. Went back in July of 2023.........sadly it was Closed! I understand it MAY reopen.....will have to see if it does.

Janet K.

Yelp
Waited and watched a long time waiting for the Baldwin Saloon to reopen following 'covid,' however found the menu wanting - nothing exciting or juicy and of course, prices have gone way up. Haven't gone back.

Yelp
Visited the Baldwin Saloon for the first time on Friday August 12th 2022 and was excited based on the reviews. Can't say I will go back. Maybe they were having an off day? We arrived about 1:30 pm and only 8 other dinners at the time. The large group of 6 had just left, a couple was leaving so that left approximately 6 other people to serve beyond us with 2 visible staff. We were asked to wait to be seated, not a problem. But then handed a menu and jestered towards a booth near the front door... Ok. We decide on 3 appetizers since we only wanted something light. The Burrata, Stuffed mushrooms and garlic fries. She took our order and brought us each a glass of water and an ice tea for my partner. The food arrives, yeah! Looks great! Oops no silverware or napkins. I look around and staff (both) are at the bar. I walk past the host stand and notice no flatware in the basket so I go up to the bar to ask for the cutlery. Oh no! she forgot. brings utensils. Water is gone. Trying to catch her eye for a refill. No new customers come in. It was like this game if I don't look your way they don't have to respond. The bread for the Burrata (this cheese is the bomb) was so dry and over toasted it just crumbled and could break a tooth. Mushrooms were good, and fries....never received any condiments for dipping and nothing out of the ordinary. Finally catch her eye for water and she again says Oh no she forgot and she really meant to bring more water. Ah and the bread....well that is how it is suppose to be, that dry according to the waitstaff. I ask for a substitute. After a pause to think about it she comes up with a piece of garlic bread. Literally 13 min later (in dinning time that is long for a slice of bread) She presents me with 1 slice of warm bread that she 'comped' for me otherwise it would have been $4.00 charge. Will I go back for a $40.00 no alcohol lunch? I don't think so.

Yelp
This place is a joke. Overpriced, long waits and very little food for your money. And what food you do get is not good quality. $18 dollars for a shrimp melt with hardly any shrimp on it and $28 for the special shrimp kabobs that were unedible.....had to send them back and fortunately she took them off of our bill. The hostess, Brook, however, was incredibly accommodating and helpful.

Michele G.

Yelp
First time here and had the best time! We sat at the bar and had the greatest bartender, Garrison! He was so attentive and friendly. Talked to us about history regarding the town and the saloon. Great drinks! We had the best time! We will come back!

Yelp
The atmosphere in the historic building in the Dalles is cozy and charming, and the food is great. They were a bit short staffed, which is understandable these days, but the manager made an extra effort to please.

Stacey W.

Yelp
Were recommended this establishment by our Airbnb local referrals list and so glad we took advantage! What a beautiful place! It was a mixture of beautiful refinish and nostalgia. If you're an art lover, you will absolutely love it. Service was top-notch and food/libation selections were aplenty and you had your choice to dining inside or out. If you're looking for a local venue with flavor this is a must! Will be back. A definite two thumbs up!

Linnea W.

Yelp
Excellent choice on my part!! I was looking for something other than burgers or pizza (both of which seem to be the main options in The Dalles). Talked to some locals and they suggested the Baldwin Saloon. I didn't even look at the reviews until I sat down. I was dining alone while in town for business. I was promptly seated at a nice two person booth. Excellent service all the way around, I told my waiter I was torn between the Chicken Cordon Blue or the Salmon Rockafeller on the specials menu. He informed me that while they always offer the chicken the Salmon was a limited offering dependent upon the salmon season. That decided me, I do pass through the area from time to time so I could have the chicken another time. I started with a pork green curry soup it had a mild curry flavor and was quite good, I didn't finish it in order to save room for my meal. As any good waiter he inquired making sure I enjoyed the soup if not he was ready to switch it out. My meal came and it was delicious. I was surprised how large the salmon portion was. My only complaint was that I wished there was a bit more of the Alfredo sauce on the salmon it was so good and I dipped my broccoli in it. The dish was rich but not overly so. I was checked on throughout the meal but not annoyingly so and my iced tea was consistently refilled without having to make a request. Great service great food, I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious! This local spot highlights a nice variety of unique entrees, tasty starters and fun cocktails!

Yelp
I am writing this review for a visit in April 2020. Staff was friendly, but the service was slow.... Food was okay- but in my opinion was way overpriced (even more expensive than previous ownership had been). If the quality had been at the previous ownership level then it would have been an easier pill to swallow. It was not. If I hear good things I will go back (the building is beautiful and historic). Until then- there are other options in The Dalles.

Yelp
Stopped in for a glass of wine and was dazzled and amazed by the staff and interior. The menu is well rounded and I can not wait to come eat dinner here. The vibe is mysterious and classy. Great date night spot! Will be back!

Danielle D.

Yelp
We were thankful this place was opened until 9:00. We checked their online menu and reviews and got pretty excited. The host was great. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired (it looked gourmet on the menu but I could have gotten the same thing at a diner for 5-7 bucks cheaper). The service was awkward. We felt pressured to get appetizers and desserts. Drinks didn't come quickly, it seemed our server was too busy talking with his coworkers in the back to pay attention to us (except when convenient for him). He mentioned they were under new ownership, maybe that's why the reviews in the past were good, but our experience didn't match? Also, if you are concerned about COVID-19, about 80% of the staff were wearing the masks under their nose or their chin.

Misty L.

Yelp
We stopped in for a late lunch and enjoyed their happy hour. We shared the garlic fries (shoe) and the pork mac and cheese. They were both delicious! Add extra jalapeño to your mac, it's worth the heat! My husband had an IPA and I got a Bee Kind "mocktail". They were wonderfully refreshing on this 110 degree day!

Mitzi S.

Yelp
I love Baldwin Saloon! I travel to The Dalles often for work and always stop here. Their staff is fantastic and their food is delicious. I highly recommend!

Pam R.

Yelp
Very good food. We tried a few things and although everything wasn't amazing there was a ton of delicious food . The salad dressing used on our side salad was delicious. Fresh made bread and butter pickles are good on the side. The meat used in the burger is top notch delicious . Clam chowder was probably the best I've ever eaten. I liked the stuffed mushrooms, stuffed dates, and calamari, but probably won't order them again. They were solidly good, don't get me wrong, there's just better stuff on the menu. The garlic fries are good but the Parmesan truffle fries are incredible. The bench seats are hard to get in and out of and hurt to sit in. Service was great too! When I'm in town this is the place for sure!

Cindy H.

Yelp
Me and my friend came in for dinner during our stay in The Dalles. This was about the only decent restaurant with good reviews near the place we were staying at. They have a massive selection of food on their menu and the population of this town is very small, so the quality of freshness is questionable. We ordered a few things to try. We got their pasta dish of the day which was their fettuccine alfredo and it was really good. They make their pasta in-house and you can definitely taste the freshness of their noodles. We also ordered the seafood bouillabaisse which was extremely salty and the mussels were a bit gritty. The last plate we ordered was the filet mignon w/ green peppercorn sauce and they totally messed that steak up. We asked for medium rare and when we got the steak it was fully cooked, not even a spot of pink left.

Yelp
I wish there were just a few more stars to give Baldwin Saloon but since that isn't a option here's my review... I pass through The Dalles on a pretty regular basis (nearly once a month) but only the last few months had I actually decided to "layover" in this little historic town. After my dinner tonight, I'm SO glad I did!! We showed up to BS nestled into the heart of quaint downtown. The historic building is something near and dear to my tastes. Vaulted high ceilings. Crown molding everywhere I look. Dark wood wall to wall. The saloon bar boasted a large ornate, rich wood with stained glass and a beautiful antique, in working order cash register. I order a cocktail and we receive our mini-gobbleted ice water. I got the raspberry truffle which was a dessert drink, because I'm sweet like that. It was delicious and I savored every drop. Our server, Harley, was amazingly attentive and knew a lot of the history of the decor and building he so graciously shared with us. Our booth was cozy and private. Just the right amount of space and light. Perfect view of the bar. I got my side salad and fresh bread. I order the prime rib which came perfectly cooked. With broccoli, couscous (which was actually one of my favorite parts of the meal...and that says a lot, because the rest was fantastic) horseradish cream, au jus, and a small slice of pineapple. Bae ordered the chicken strip salad...which he said was flawless. After finishing very generous meals we ordered dessert to go. Everything from the esthetics of this beautiful restaurant, the vibrant history behind the huge oil paintings canvassing the walls, the stellar food, the excellent service...the only thing that I regret about this place is that I don't live closer and didn't wear bigger pants...both my bad!!!...hahahah I think Sir Harley needs a raise and that I will return ASAP. Thank you soooo much Baldwin Saloon!!!

Dan R.

Yelp
I'd only eaten in The Dalles once before, and this was the place Dalles native Sam chose to meet me. Saloon's the right word. Wait staff in red vests, has that old timey feel, and gave excellent service. Place full of antiques and walls full of paintings of nearby mountains and scenes. Very good service. While i thought the house made bun was a bit too fluffy, the burger was quality meat and cooked medium rare as requested. French fries didn't taste as dark as they looked. Good portions and prices. They have quite a large menu, much moreso than you're average saloon.

Yelp
Baldwin Saloon is well-reviewed and I have little offer beyond what others have said. It's a busy place. We stopped in on the way to Portland around noonish on a weekday to find it nearly filled. A small line gathered shortly after we were seated. The booths to the right of the door seem to be preferred but we settled for one in the far left corner, over by the old bar and the paintings of nude women. Food: - Reuben: fairly tasty with a big portion. I found the bread to be a little boring. - Cole slaw side: I like cole slaw and found Baldwin's traditional mayo-based version quite good, if that's what you like. - Fish tacos: Solid. Recommended. - Pepsi instead of Coke. Boo. Service was fine - efficient and friendly. We were traveling and weren't looking for a long, lazy lunch so getting the check promptly was appreciated. Not cheap.

Yelp
I was in town on a whim for an overnight getaway and had a hankering for filet mignon, so I headed over here. I called ahead to check availability and the person on the phone was sweet and polite. Upon walking in, I was greeted and asked if I was the one after the steak. Indeed I was! The restaurant smelled AMAZING. I was promptly seated on the enchanting patio. The music was quiet French bistro jazz. My waiter, Zack, was sweet, efficient and SUPER on top of their game. Just the best. Also sang another table the sweetest and funniest happy anniversary song I've ever heard. Zack you are an absolute star.. The filet was delicious and perfectly prepared and the milk bun served before it may have finally convinced me that I like bread. The service was attentive without being intrusive and I had a fantastic meal. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the Dalles.

Bill M.

Yelp
This historical site used to be an icon, great food, service and the informational building. I can understand the issues with covid and the new owners have deteriorated the menu, are hardly ever open and have lost their chef. Its unfortunate, one of the best in the town is now lost. who knows when and how they will be in town?

Ray S.

Yelp
Great staff great food! I had chicken Alfredo and it was delicious! Highly recommend.

Bill P.

Yelp
Great home made food. The rolls were freshly baked. The salad was made with fresh, local produce. The steak was made from local beef. It was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was exceptional. Good service, good food and great art work to admire while waiting. I would have liked to try more menu items, but maybe next time we are in town we will. My only concern is by the time we return to the Dallas they will have been "discovered ". Oh well. They deserve the praise.

Steve L.

Yelp
Having this only been the second time "dining in" since the beginning of the pandemic, my expectations were set pretty high. Executive Chef Joe Kosarek and the incredible staff of the "new" Historic Baldwin Saloon did not disappoint. The menu has been paired way-way back, since the previous ownership, but the dishes are incredibly thoughtful and are executed beautifully. Some of the Baldwin "signature" dishes remained on the menu so as to not disappoint long time patrons of the establishment. We opted for something new and since Chef Joe gets his inspiration from New Orleans...when in Rome. Vermouth Mussels and the Creole Seafood Dip as an appetizer were prepared perfectly. The dip was rich and creamy and the mussels were delicate and savory. We chose to go Creole again with Duck Confit and Bouillabaisse. The Duck Confit was on point! "Falling off the bone" tender with a crispy skin and the honey demi glace was stunning. The Bouillabaisse was epic. The acidity of the broth was kept in check as it bathed the light flakey cod and its assorted accoutrement. All of the dishes were beautifully plated and delivered with confidence. We wrapped it up with a "Dirty Martini" and the Baldwin Saloons signature "Lemon Drop" on the deck outside. Thanks again to the Martin family and their incredible staff for making our 20th anniversary night out unforgettable. Next time....dessert!!

Mark Maureen C.

Yelp
It was fine, not as good as the last time we came. The salad was very small and overpriced. The salad dressing was way too thick for a vinigarette. The server was nice and the homemade bread was delicious.

Mike T.

Yelp
One of my best meals and experiences ever! I went with a burger, cooked to perfection. The housemade ranch dressing wa fantastic. Our server (Fernando) was very knowledgeable and exceptional. For dessert I had the creme brulee it had the perfect crunch and tasted absolutely amazing. Not only do I recommend this establishment, I will stop here whenever I travel through. Atmosphere is very inviting. You can feel the history as you sit here. A wide menu variety to include Vegan ( if you're into that). I want to come back for the night scene. I think it would also be incredible!!!

Ron M.

Yelp
The Dalles isn't famous for food so you have to lower your bar when coming to town. My observations were that it is understaffed and overpriced for mediocre food that definitely won't go over well with kids and teens. I'd stick with burgers if you come here or go get sandwiches from a famous chain. Not recommended

Eric K.

Yelp
We were staying near Mt. Hood and took a drive over to The Dalles one day. It was so strange to go from constant rainy weather on one side of Mt. Hood to the other where it's practically dry year-round! Anyway, after checking out Yelp, it didn't look like there were a whole lot of options in the quaint little town of The Dalles for non-chain restaurants that sounded appealing. The Baldwin Saloon did, though, and it was an excellent choice. It's in an historic building with wooden floors, high ceilings, tall booths, and lots of windows. For lunch, I tried the Bleu Bird sandwich (sliced turkey breast and melted tillamook cheddar cheese on grilled bleu cheese bread). Yum! I then had multiple side item options (which I love). One of them was a Caesar salad; it was HUGE. We definitely got our money's worth, and loved our meals. The atmosphere was fantastic, too, and our server was super-friendly, speedy, and efficient. There wasn't a heck of a lot to see in The Dalles for tourists, but Baldwin Saloon made for a nice pitstop. It felt like a warm, friendly diner.

Amber P.

Yelp
This is the best place I've found to stop for lunch on a roadtrip out I-84. The atmosphere is comfortable, with lots of booths. The service is friendly and attentive. I enjoyed a massive seafood Louie salad and my partner said the clam chowder was excellent. Some of the bottled drinks are large, so ask about the size if you're driving.

Landon M.

Yelp
Was super good and a fun little place My only complaint is that the bread was super thick so ... trying to watch my bread intake I had to set some aside but outside that it was perfect.

Jenifer E.

Yelp
Love love love the ambience of this place!!! Service was excellent, food was good. Would come back when we are in the area again. Thanks!!

Rich D.

Yelp
Best dinner I've had in years. I had the pork tenderloin dinner with roasted brussel sprouts and apple. Seriously this restaurant is competitive with the best in Portland Oregon. The dinner rolls are so good you don't need butter. My wife had the best salad and sweet pea soup of the day and both were very good. Great service from an enthusiastic young waiter - first day on the job. Very impressed overall. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
surprisingly really good. wasn't expecting much since the pictures of the food didn't look all that great. here's what we had: - clam chowder: really good and lots of fresh clams (not canned). - 16 oz prime rib - huge, cooked perfectly medium rare. tender and juicy. seasoned well. no salt needed. - french onion soup: flavorful broth w generous layer of gruyere cheese and bread w a slight crunch. delicious and decadent. our server was super nice and enthusiastic. all the servers were really nice, greeting us even though they weren't serving us. historic and charming building and ambiance.

Nicole B.

Yelp
Exceptional, no attitude wait staff. Decor seems true to buildings' heritage...fun vintage saloon with chandeliers. Quite happy with the food. Was easy to order vegan - hummus plate (without feta) and vegan chili. Both delicious. Will go back.

Thomas B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the Baldwin Saloon. The building built in 18 49 I believe was a beautifully preserved piece of history for the town. On the inside it was decorated with half nude ladies scantily clad like you would find hangover some Western bar from an old Saloon days. The bar railing kit bar at the bottom of the brass bar or from an old-school bar that they had brought in. I understand from someone that previously the building housed saddle makers. The decorations and the brick walls and the chandeliers all made it seem very old timey and the menu was really really something to look at. I ordered a Reuben on Fresh French bread that was made on premises and also ordered was a Cobb salad and a seafood salad and everything was right on the Mark. I was told not to worry about a thing there and they were absolutely correct.

Jeanie P.

Yelp
Great service, flavorful menu and fair prices. By far, my favorite place to dine. Fresh food made daily and home made desserts. Atmosphere and 19 century artwork make this a wonderful place to come.

Samuel G.

Yelp
Loved this place. Atmosphere was so cool. The chowder was out of this world. I order coleslaw, not sure why,I don't like coleslaw but his was amazing

Harlan C.

Yelp
The previous owners had several good items. Current owners have this once best restaurant in town, ordinary.

Doug N.

Yelp
Excellent Happy Hour for First Friday in The Dalles Downtown. Calamari, stuffed dates and baked meatballs all very tasty. Great Lemon Drop and Zinfandel. Highly recommend. Can't wait for them to open for dinner.

Art Y.

Yelp
I'm not sure what to say about this place. The interior is a little antique (on purpose) and it gives you a old time saloon feel with nude women paintings. (That's one down) There was an old lady playing piano upstairs. That's lovely and warm. Foods were not particularly delicious. Heavy on sauce and salt. Not finely crafted. Not sure why so many reviewers insisted that their entrees are good. In general, the staff do not feel very comfortable with serving Asians. They just gave me the impression that they are uncomfortable, aloof and not warm.

Jesse M.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for a Father's Day dinner, it was fantastic! Our waiter, Zach Wegner, was so friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and made our evening such a great memory. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

M D.

Yelp
Had never been here before, will definitely come again!! Husband had the Baldwin Burger which he says was the best he ever ate I had the Greek to Me Prime Rib..SO SO GOOD!!' the server was very friendly and checked often to see if we needed anything. The interior is very nice, and very clean.

Cory S.

Yelp
Great Caesar salad. I like the eating area outside and I recommend it when the weather is nice.

Tiiu V.

Yelp
Had the duck confit with roasted beets and hot slaw and it was delicious. Delivered to my door with easy to follow instructions to prepare for eating. Less than half an hour and I sat down to enjoy my Easter dinner. Would definitely order it again. Thanks Baldwin.

W F.

Yelp
Supposedly one of the best restaurants in The Dalles. I was expecting to be blown away I guess. Long day in the airport and on the road coming in from Portland....maybe I was just tired and being a picky little baby. Had a glass of wine, and the Captain's Seafood Platter. The Captain's Platter consisted of beer-battered deep-fried halibut, breaded fresh deep fried scallops, fresh pan fried oysters, and deep fried prawns. Served with cocktail sauce for 28 bucks. The scallops were amazing...but everything else was just fried food. The coleslaw was pretty good as were the oysters, but honestly, I thought they would be really something special - but they were just A-ok....i.e. 3-stars. I wanted it to be better, but it was just an old restaurant in an old town, that had a whole lot of locals who really like the place and recommend it a lot. The bar was extremely well appointed and the wine selection was pretty good. I did enjoy two rather excellent glasses of their house red (its name escapes me). The staff and bar team were excellent and I cannot complain about anything at all. They took very good care of us. Like I said, just a little disappointed that a 70 dollar meal didn't excite me a little more.

JanaLee S.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped for a meal late afternoon on Friday, having found the Baldwin Salloon on Yelp. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! My husband had a bowl of clam chowder that he loved and shrimp tacos. The tacos were fabulous, homemade tortilla thin and delicate, which held together perfectly. I am gluten free and they had me with gluten free pasta. When I asked what kind of pasta, Ashley, our knowledgable server. Informed me all types of pasta are homemade gluten free. I started with the Turkey noodle soup, yum. Then I ordered the smoked salmon and shrimp fettuccine alfredo. OMG! The best alfredo dish I've ever had, even before I discovered my gluten intolerance. We will definitely stop again as we travel The Gorge!

Dennis F.

Yelp
Wow...just visited the Baldwin Saloon for the first time. They had recently opened for dinner and it was amazing. I am originally from Maine and New Hampshire area and had to sample Baldwin's clam chowder...it was delicious!! Unbelievable service provided by Brooke. Prices were very good as well. Thanks Brooke we will be back! Dennis and Annette

Yelp
Meh. I am so sadly disappointed. After doing my Yelp homework, I already knew what I wanted to order before we parked the car. It would be the infamous French onion soup and the stuffed mushrooms for me! My Mom-in-law had the soup with the half ceasar salad. The manfolk opted for the Santa Fe burger with potato salad. Our soup arrived and looked amazing. They have a complimentary loaf of homemade bread (yummy). I had a few small bites as my soup cooled. Uh oh. We have a problem. I like salt. Like, I really like salt. With that being said, this was VERY salty. I knew that if I thought it was too salty, Mom would probably be hating it. I asked, already knowing the answer. She ate three bites and pushed it away. I tried to eat it all, to no avail. I was still optimistic about my shrooms and Moms salad. The rest of our food arrived 15 minutes later or so. Moms salad was basic, which is understandable. It's lettuce, salad, cheese and croutons. My order consisted of four very large mushrooms, that were supposed to have artichoke hearts, bread crumbs and delicious spices and flavors. There was "stuffing" but the only flavor they had was bad. I'm not sure how to describe bland and tasteless to ick, what did I just eat? The manfolk was happy with his burger, hence the three stars, and the waitress was nice. I appreciate the history and beauty of the building and maybe I just hit the place on a bad day. I don't think I'd try it the next time we're passing through.

Yelp
We went here for lunch on a Saturday in October. A lot of Oregonians were trying to patronize the Gorge after the fires, and actually it was really busy in Hood River. This restaurant in The Dalles had a steady flow of customers. The Baldwin is a charming old building and it's well worth going just for the scene. There are few restaurants or bars in Oregon with that kind of vintage--the only ones that come to my mind are the famous Huber's in Portland or maybe Tolly's in Oakland OR. Unlike some other reviewers' experiences, our service was actually quite good, a friendly guy who seemed pretty experienced. The food is where I'm hung up. It was...decent. For a lot of America it would be considered very good. But this is Oregon and our expectations are higher. We came to experience the Gorge, during the peak of fall harvest. And while there were apples and pears at orchards just up the road--literally!--we could have been anywhere in a suburban strip mall for lunch. I would still advise people to come here. But I see so much potential, I'm going to be bold and throw some advice to the owners: Ditch the Denny's-style laminated menu. Make it shorter. Have your front page titled "The Northwest Connection" or similar and make it change seasonally with the produce you're highlighting. Examples... Do a pear and blue cheese salad (the classics work). Or grill a sandwich with a locally sourced ham or turkey and some thinly sliced apples and camembert. (No, I didn't make this dish up--I've had it elsewhere.) Or a local mushroom bruschetta. Oh, and that's another thing. You mention you grind your own hamburger. Don't just mention it in passing. Feature it, and answer the obvious follow up question in a diner's mind--where do you source your meat? Finally, appearance matters. On your website (and your menu) update your design. All that extra bold/ital/underline combo stuff is tiring to read. Get a real old-style font not Times New Roman. And proofread-- please don't spell prosciutto with the u first.
