The Barat Perhentian

We arrived on the first day and noticed that there were ants in the room. We informed the front desk who sent the cleaners to try and spray some bug spray. This didn’t help so we requested a new room. They said the resort was full but a room was available the following day. The next day we checked into the new room which was on the second floor and much better. There are gaps in most of the first floor rooms so the second floor rooms seem to be a lot better. Overall the resort is good. The rooms are simple but good for the price. The resort doesn’t have a beach of its own, but is a 5-10 minute walk from some nice beaches. Location is quite central on the island in terms of walking or catching water taxis to different areas. We went in June and the crowd was busy due to European holidays. Backpacker crowd. If you’re looking for a quiet resort, book before June or after August or choose a different resort. Staff was friendly overall. Food at the restaurant was pricey but pretty good.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the area is quiet, a solid start. On-site booking for snorkeling and boat transfers is convenient and efficient. But the stay was ultimately unacceptable due to a major hygiene issue: bed bugs. I was bitten across my body and immediately informed the hotel. They never responded. No apology, no follow-up, no acknowledgment, a complete failure in basic guest care. Breakfast is overpriced at 100 RM for two, especially when the neighboring Coral View offers better food, service, beach, and value. Add to that a heavy presence of bats around the property at night. Verdict: Comfort is meaningless without care. A hotel that ignores a bed bug complaint fails its core responsibility. This should have been a 4-star stay. It’s a 2.

So we stayed at the Barat for 4 nights. The seaside family chalet was great, the rooms were roomy, although with 3/4 people, it might be a little small. The shower had just very low water pressure, and you couldn't really control the temperature. The other annoying thing was, that at 7am, 3pm, and 10pm, the generators would go off, (the ones that control the air-con) and you would need to stand up to turn them on again, so if you wanted the air-con for the night, you would need to wait until they go off to turn them back on again. Other than that though, it was good. Although what was also very shocking was the restaurant. One would wait very long just to get even the drinks, and you would pay 18% tax on top, which made one meal very expensive. The breakfast voucher meal sets weren't worth it either. We would recommend the restaurant beside turtle bay instead, which had more humane prices and was still great and a lot quicker. The location is great though, because it is just a 10 minute walk from Turtle Bay, which has amazing water to swim in and it was great not having to take a water taxi to go there...

A Perfect Seafront Getaway with Amazing Food and Crystal Clear Waters! I recently had the pleasure of staying at Barat Perhentian and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience! The resort is ideally located by the beach, offering breathtaking views and an idyllic setting for relaxation. The water is incredibly clear, making it perfect for diving. I had an amazing time exploring the underwater world, and the resort's dive center made the whole experience seamless and enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious! Every meal I had was a delight, with a great variety of fresh, flavorful options. Whether it was a hearty breakfast, a light lunch by the beach, or a romantic dinner, the quality and taste of the dishes were consistently impressive. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone I encountered was incredibly friendly, polite, and helpful. From check-in to check-out, their attentiveness and warm hospitality made me feel welcome and well taken care of. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a peaceful, picturesque getaway with fantastic food, top-notch service, and world-class diving opportunities. I can't wait to return!

I stayed at The Barat Perhentian - 20th Jun 2025, and had a very pleasant experience. Although the resort is not directly attached to long beach, it offers a peaceful and relaxing environment — a great place to unwind and enjoy nature. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The room was comfortable and clean, and the facilities were well maintained. The on-site restaurant also served a good variety of local and Western dishes with reasonable 'tourist' pricing. Overall, The Barat is a great choice for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Perhentian Islands with comfort and convenience. I’d definitely recommend it and hope to return again!

Nice rooms. Family room with 2 is big enough. Wouldn't recommend with 4 though. Airconditioning is 24/7 which is nice to come back to. Location superb with multiple beaches and water taxi spot around the corner. Good value! Lot's of children. For you to decide if that's a plus or not....

Superbly located on Perhentian Besar. Rooms are nice and well laid out. Easy access to boat services. Ensure you bring essentials along as the only nearby shop prices everything higher than the Kg Nelayan opposite. Service can surely be better as they have inexperienced staff as front liners. We had a few who's were afraid to speak to us and didn't know the basic information required at the beach restaurant. For the prices being charged, one will expect more. Barat needs to pay attention to the training of people to boost the holidaymakers experience. We are gonna try the nearby PIR the next round and see if we get better services.

Started with family and had an amazing trip. ,, the staff were really nice and helpful. Location is quiet while nearby restaurants are available. Amazing snorkeling only a few minutes awayWe used the hotel activities for snorkeling tour + scubba diving and the staff was great, really kind and knowledgeable so big up to them (Benny and Nick).
