Very similar feel compared to other Thai restaurants I enjoy. Ordered a spicy beef salad which met my expectations, but a bit smallish for the price- a common theme at almost every restaurant I visit. Service was polite. Food arrived promptly. Facility was very clean although a bit stale on the atmosphere. I will return

Google
Absolutely loved this Thai restaurant! My favorite dish was the Thai beef salad, full of authentic flavors and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was fresh and well-seasoned. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made us feel very welcome. An amazing experience from start to finish, highly recommended!

It’s always a pleasure coming to Thai Basil! We absolutely love Saya! Food and service were outstanding as usual!!! We will continue to come back and bring our friends!

Google
Delicious food, the Bangkok fried rice reminded us of the Thai fried rice we had in Thailand months back. Lots of flavor! The mango sticky rice was also very delicious, a bit on the pricier side, but worth every penny! The decor was very pretty as well. The staff were very friendly, even though we unknowingly got there 30min before closing, we did not feel rushed, plus we eat quickly normally anyways lol. Overall 10/10 would recommend eating here for some quality flavorful food! :)

I had a wonderful experience at The Basil Thai Cuisine in Carson City! The food was amazing—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is warm and tastefully decorated, which really adds to the dining experience. What truly stood out was the service—friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. A must-visit spot for anyone who loves Thai food!

Google
The Basil Thai Restaurant is a decent spot if you're craving Thai food while passing through Carson City. It's not going to blow your mind, but it does the job. And considering the location, that’s more than fair. The presentation was thoughtful, with neatly plated dishes and crisp veggies on the side. My partner had the basil chicken with rice and a fried egg on top. I had the yellow curry with chicken and vegetables. It was mild but satisfying. The portions were reasonable, and the fried crackers added a nice crunch. The flavors leaned a bit tame compared to Thai spots in bigger cities, but the meal was still enjoyable. Is it the best Thai I’ve ever had? No. But for Carson City? It’s a fine choice.

Yelp
What a surprise to find such a slice of Thailand on the main street! Pleasantly decorated interior. Friendly hostess. Also, the cook brought our food out wearing gloves. I like that. I came in for lunch, so that means you get a flavorful cabbage-tofu soup in addition to your meal plate. I was never asked what heat level for my curry but it was warming and satisfying for me but was on the edge for Mr. Bland. He ordered a tofu ginger plate and he really enjoyed it. He even found a ginger piece that was stuck in his teeth an hour later and he enjoyed that, too.

Yelp
Loved the Krapow with ground chicken. The pad Thai and yellow chicken curry were just ok. The service was a bit slow but friendly but maybe just had less staff that day. Nice pleasant ambiance.

Yelp
Wow! Simply Wow! Been wanting to try out The Basil for quite some time as I absolutely love Thai food and it did not disappoint in the least bit. In fact, it way exceeded my expectations. When we first walked in, we noticed how warm and inviting the place was. The menus are something special as well. Instead of just listing the food and the ingredients, they had color photos of the dishes. To top it off, you can make the dishes strictly vegetarian, or you can choose beef, chicken, shrimp, or a combination of chicken and shrimp which I did when I ordered the Panang Curry. While pretty spicy, it was rich in flavor, the proteins were cooked perfectly, and the jasmine rice was perfect. The service was fast and attentive. This is now my favorite Thai restaurant in the Reno/Carson/Sparks/Tahoe region. Will absolutely go back again soon.

Yelp
I would give this a solid 3.5. Definitely a hot spot in Carson city! Took a few minutes to get greeted but no biggie, they were so busy. My mom though the tofu was too hard but it was okay to me. The papaya salad was okay, we ordered a medium but it wasn't spicy at all imo and my mom said she would prefer it to be shredded into smaller pieces. Best order was the pad see eew. It was tasty, good variety of veggies. Service was decent - she checked in on us enough times.

Yelp
As always the creamy cocoanut soup is like a rich comfort food with just little bite! Almost too much for this ultra wimp. Tried the fried rice with just hint of fresh sweetness, perfectly steamed shrimp an chicken! Always friendly service and beautiful surroundings. NEW menu items centering on soft shell crab! Next time!!!

Mohana Priya V.

Yelp
Horrible experience I specifically ordered no egg fried rice and noodles and repeated multiple times only vegetable and tofu , and the lady repeated the order correctly, after 30 mins and long drive when we went for pick up we were given fried rice and noodles with egg. Such a bad experience. Not recommended, bad service

Yelp
This place seems to be a hot spot in Carson City! Every table was taken by the time we left here on Friday night so we were glad we could grab a table. The servers were efficient and friendly and the decor is interesting. We liked that it was still decorated for Christmas. For food, we started with their fresh mango rolls and they were excellent. For mains, my son had Drunken Noodles with pork, my husband had Tom Yum soup, and I had Pad Thai with shrimp. My benchmark for evaluating Thai restaurants is Pad Thai and theirs was pretty good. Not my favorite ever, but still tasty. We felt the prices are the going rate for Thai restaurants - so not cheap but not outrageous. We would go back.

Yelp
The ambiance was perfect. Happy people enjoying great food in a quaint, cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Servers made us feel welcome and taken care of, even though the place was full. Portions were just right, enough for one meal. Delicious, and even on the spicier dishes, they were mildly spicy. The cream cheese wontons and accompanying sauce were stellar. A delightful experience overall!

Yelp
The food is not good. Overpriced and the waitress rude. I will never visit this place again.

Yelp
Awesome, quiet, bright, and fine lunch dining experience! We both had the Pad Thai lunch special. Service, surroundings, and flavors were amazing. I think we ate it all.

Megan H.

Yelp
We got takeout tonight and it was sooooo good. It exceeded any expectations we had. Everything was super flavorful, perfect amount of spice, and the mango tango was one of the best we have had. It was a little bit pricey but I don't mind paying a little bit more for some amazing food. Super pleased & will absolutely be back.

Yelp
The Basil always has good food. The mango roll and pad Thai are great. The returns is nice and the staff there is always friendly and will take good care of you. I do feel like their hours are strange and they have gotten slower since COVID. I usually get food to-go from The Basil but the inside of the restaurant is nice and always smells like delicious Thai!

Yelp
Was taken to lunch here last Wednesday as a surprise from my friend. It was so pretty inside. I ordered the spicy bbq chicken. It came with rice, salad, added a spring roll and sweet n sour won ton chip as well. The chicken was cooked perfect. A light crispy crust. The spicy bbq sauce aka spicy sweet n sour sauce. It was really great. Only complaint is they did not dress my salad with the peanut sauce. It was just dry lettuce and tomato. OOopps. My friend got the veggie green curry and I tasted the broth. Omg what flavor. Our waitress was really sweet. Older lady. Didn't hover but was there when you needed her. Location is in down town Carson. So a nice view. Would have given 5 stars if my salad had been dressed. I stole dressing off my friends salad. I'll go back as that chicken was so good.

Yelp
The place is always impressive! The servers all so very nice and kind and quick to please! The place is softly lit and absorbs the sounds of the room a bit so it's easy to have and hear conversations even though there are many taking place across their dining room. The food and flavor profile is amazing, but it's a double edged sword. The flavors will stick in your mind and quickly become the bar of your expectations for dining elsewhere in other cities; unfortunately it's hard to find a place that can cook food this well...!I travel a lot and have eaten a lot of Thai food in my life. This one is definitely one of the greats and hard to beat!

Yelp
Got seated right away on a Saturday night. Food came out relatively quickly. We ordered the red curry with chicken and then the pad see ew with beef. The curry was very flavorful and the coconut didn't overpower it, which I really liked. It was perfect with rice. The pad see ew was also really good and the beef was pretty tender. We did want to order the mango sticky rice for dessert, but unfortunately the mango was not fresh anymore. I'd come back to get these dishes again and even try some of their other items. I definitely wanna try the mango sticky rice for dessert next time.

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner here last week. The food is fresh and delicious, the menu items are clearly marked with many gluten-free and vegetarian options. The atmosphere is charming and the staff are super friendly and attentive. So So So delicious! We started with the mango spring rolls and a chicken appetizer. Sorry there are no photos because we snarfed them down quickly. For entrees we had Pad Thai Noodle with shrimp, Pad See Ew Noodles with shrimp, and the Roast Duck Gravy. For dessert, we shared the Mango Tango and the Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream. Everything we tried was beautiful and beyond melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Yum. The best Thai food in the area. Flavorful and fresh food. One of my favorite places!

Susan F.

Yelp
Awesome experience!!! The food was fabulous, the service was excellent!!!! Authentic all the way!!!

Kari W.

Yelp
It's a ma and pop restaurants. Everything we had was over the top. We started with their crispy calamari appetizer delicious and crunchy. We got two specials on the menu which were crispy soft shelled crab and shrimp and order with the drunken noodles and another with the pad Thai. They were both beyond flavorful with plenty of extra to share. They don't even scamp on the seafood. It was an amazing experience we came in a little more then a hour before closing everything was still every fresh.

Yelp
Good and service were very good. Eggplant entree with chicken was a good sized portion (enough for two). They offer beer wine, saki, boba teas for beverages, along with the usual sodas and hot teas.

Kristina L.

Yelp
The honey ducking has a lot of dark meat, which I don't like. The taste is just ok. I wish they do more white meat than dark. It's not worth the $31.95 price. I had better. I wouldn't be coming back.

Yelp
Just what I wanted and just when I needed it. The weather turned a little cooler and I was looking for a nice bowl of soup. That's when Thai food shines. I was greeted warmly at the door and taken to a table. The food and service continued to impress me as did the serene surroundings. Highly recommended.

rosie m.

Yelp
We walked in and we were pleasantly greeted. The restaurant only had another couple so I was a bit nervous. We decided to try it out and I'm so glad we did. The food came out hot and fresh. We ordered the cream cheese stuffed wontons and fried dumplings as an appetizer and they were crispy and full of flavor. For our entree we ordered the beef drunken noodles. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Definitely recommend

Yelp
The restaurant is semi-well lit with no background music. The staff is friendly but struggles to keep up with their tables so expect a refill on your drinks about mid meal or plan on grabbing a staff member for refills. The food is off the charts good. Some of the best Thai food I have ever had. Tonight for appetizers we had the shrimp toast and the new cream cheese wontons. Both appetizers were full of flavor and served with sauces that complemented them. For my entree, I had the green combination curry with a side of rice. The heat and seasonings were perfect and the meats were cooked correctly. This definitely hit the spot. I could have used a bit more rice though. My friend got the special: soft shell crab & shrimp over drunken noodles. The soft shell crab was small but over this dish was so good it made your eyes roll into your head as you melted into your seat smiling. This place is always a joy to eat at and I can't wait for my next visit.

Yelp
Special order soft shell crab in taro nest. Special on weekends enjoy dinner with the basil.

Yelp
The ambiance is very nice, you can hear your companions talking because of the nice acoustics. The food was delicious. I had the yellow chicken curry with 2 vegetable egg rolls. The waitress checked on us and make sure our waters were full

Yelp
Super cozy and loved the ambience inside when I went to pick up dinner. Service for pickup was great. Love the order ahead feature online. It made it super easy and the food was hot when I got home. Curry puffs were heavenly. They were light and full of flavor. The peanut sauce was off the hook, smooth, rich and full of flavor The pad Thai combo was good the noodles were cooked perfectly. The shrimp, beef, chicken, were good well. The tofu was over cooked. The spice was perfectly balance with a little kick on then back. The chicken teriyaki and sticky rice were light and perfect combination. Looking forward to dining in and enjoying a full meal. Curry here I come!

Yelp
Delicious food! The calamari is all squid and no tentacles with a delicious dipping sauce and we tried the shrimp and chicken Pad That YUM! As well as the shrimp fried rice. The service and excellent and the ambience is vey peaceful. This is a gem here in Carson for Asian food. Thank you for offering a Mother's Day menu.

Yelp
Freaking awesome Thai food and service. It will make you want to explore foods you've never considered eating.

Yelp
Really excellent Thai food! I am in Carson often but haven't found any good and reasonably healthy take out places. I will be back and highly recommend!!

Yelp
This place is very popular. They have plenty of tables . Even though they were busy , the waitress always had time to make sure our table had refills on our water cups . I order the cashew nut with chicken , it doesn't come with rice . So you have to order that . Also had the basil sample platter , most of it was fried tempera. The shrimp toast was the most tastiest and unique . It comes with 3 dipping sauce , the peanut sauce was the best. The food was okay . I didn't like how the waitress only boxed up my friends food and didn't even boxed up my food. I like their menu very much it has lots of pictures

Yelp
Service overall good, had to wait a little bit to be seated otherwise very good. Food was good but price a little on the higher end. It was a busy place for Saturday dinner. The kids enjoyed the pad see ew. It was on the spicy side even for a 2/5 spicy level. A little less salt would have been perfect.

Yelp
Ordered online to be pickup. Paid for and then Came to pick up 3 mins after order was to be ready via online time. Was informed they don't start cooking until 4:30 ???? My order was paid for and told it would be ready by 3:45? Please if you can't pick up before 4:30 DO NOT have a pick up time before this available online. Makes zero sense.. change your hours please so others are not waiting or confused. Also when I mentioned the huge difference between the online site that does charge you btw for an online order and your kitchen real hours I was told to just wait until they open and then cook? How about a refund? How about changing your website to correct hours? Just some suggestions Feeling a bit frustrated hope others have a better experience

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to dine. The staff is friendly and professional. They are happy to explain any of their cuisine offerings. The Thai food is beautiful and flavorful. There were 4 of us for dinner. All the dishes were great.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I went to Carson City just before Christmas for antiquing. At one of the small, cute antique stores we stopped by, we mentioned that it was time for lunch, and the store owner told us to go to Basil Thai restaurant. It was a cold, gray day, and the idea of having a hot Thai food just instantly convinced us; yes, Thai sounds perfect! As soon as we walked in, we were impressed by the charming interior. It's beautiful. Furniture and fixture looked very expensive, and the place was meticulously clean. Because we were cold, we all ordered different soup dishes. They were all delicious! I was so happy with my won ton soup. It warmed me right up, and just the right amount. It tasted all fresh. The service was excellent too. It looks like I'd be going to Carson City in regular basis, so I am looking forward to having meal here often!

Yelp
This IS THE PLACE!!! Looking for the perfect calamari appetizer? This is it! We had it before and then we were looking every where for the perfect one we had had! We found it! The Crispy Calamari is thick chunks with a light batter which contains, I believe, panko. The two sauces are excellent. Just TRY deciding which is your favorite. I have never had anything I have not found absolutely perfect here. You will be so delighted when you dine here. Always a full house. Recommend getting a reservation!

Yelp
The Basil restaurant is an excellent place to experience authentic Thai food and enjoy a warm comfortable atmosphere. Tonight I had the orange chicken and pad Thai shrimp. The food was cooked to perfection and served in a timely manner. The Servers are always polite and welcoming. This restaurant is one of the better establishments in Carson City. It's definitely worth your time.

Yelp
Amazing service and sweet vibe. Had a curry that was light and tasty for lunch. Wish I had asked for a bit of heat; but I forgot. Lovely jasmine tea.

Gavin S.

Yelp
We had the yellow curry and it was a delicious meal perfect for two with two sides of rice. The service was very friendly, though not particularly thorough. The prices were a bit more than I expected but well worth the quality.
google avatar

Simon J.

Yelp
Spot on Thai food in a nice looking spot, in a cool section of downtown Carson City. Service was friendly and attentive. Went with a buddy who was still thinking about his peanut curried chicken dish the next morning, disappointed he didn't take the leftovers for breakfast!

Sandy W.

Yelp
We went for lunch and the service was great. We had the yellow curry and Pad Thai, very good. For the dessert the mango rice a must try. Yummy.
google avatar

Abbie N.

Yelp
Good papaya salad and eggplant tofu dish! The pad see ew and curry was enjoyable. My least favorite was the egg rolls, they do have lunch specials which is nice but portions were tiny. But for the variety, worth the money.

Julie h.

Yelp
Service: slow-we waited a long time to get our order taken and for our appetizer and dinner Food: it was ok The best part was the mango fresh roll Tasty but very chewy. The pad Thai was too mushy mediocre at best. My ca The sauce was too sweet and very sticky The glass noodles with vegetable was just spicy. It did not have a good flavor sauce on it like we typically see. We tried the eggplant. That was a definite no. The sauce the brown sauce did not have a good taste. We had to order white rice to try to offset the lousy taste. On a positive side, Jasmine was good. The ambiance was nice but not enough reason to go back.
google avatar

Jay C.

Yelp
If Pad Thai is a wet bowl of mushy noodles with nothing else whatsoever but flavorless chicken pieces, then this is it. Worst Thai food ever....go anywhere but here. Unfortunately we got take out and when we got back to our room it was most disappointing. The vending machine was better! Minus 10 stars!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Food - good quality Service - so so Place - nicely decorated Restroom - not so clean They need to update their menu. When I was about to order the shrimp dong yum soup, the picture in the menu shows that they serve in a hot boiling pot. So I told the staff i want one of those, the staff asked me back if I want large or small size. I pointed to the picture, then she said they don't serve the soup in those pots anymore. The other dish that we ordered is the Pow Kai, the picture shows the dish with minced meat. However when the dish was served, the meat is chunky and nothing looks like in the picture. I asked the staff why it looks different, she just said I didn't specifically request for the minced meat. So, is it my fault for not confirming the food would come out the same as shown in the menu? She didn't offer to exchange another one. Oh well, my first time and also my last time here!
google avatar

Brett C.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend were passing by this city on our way to Tahoe. We decided to try this restaurant out based on their 4.5 stars. We were very disappointed. We ordered a variety of dishes to try since it was our first time here. The only dish we like was the curry puff appetizers. The tom yum was oily, papaya salad was bland, Bangkok fried rice was average, ginger duck okay, and noodles average. Don't know how this place got good reviews, but it's thumbs down for me.
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a trip here over the weekend and it was pretty good. Here is our order Thai basil - [ ] Fried potsticker sweet chili - [ ] Egg roll with sweet sauce - [ ] Curry puff with onion carrot sweet sauce - [ ] Soup - too much spinach & tofu - [ ] BBQ chciken - [ ] Yellow curry - [ ] Mango sticky rice The curry puff was actually too sweet. It was good but not lights out good like Reno. The staff was well versed in vegan. The fried chicken was good but over cooked and dry. The yellow curry was spot on. The soup would have been fine with 70% less spinach snd tofu. The potstickers were good, the boys liked the sauce. Egg rolls delicious as always. The mango on the sticky rice was fresh but the syrup wasn't as good as Manteca so I left it alone. No dessert menu was provided. I had to ask if they had any. Not sure what else they have

Faryal Z.

Yelp
Good Thai food lunch specials. I like how we can select our level of hotness in chilies.

Yelp
The best spicy drunken noodles (spicy basil) I have ever had! Something about the way they were sticky but not too sticky and incredibly flavorful made it an epic dish. You could taste the fresh basil and the dish wasn't greasy at all, it was like refined, real Thai food. I tried my friends yellow curry as well and it was silky and savory. Food came out so quick it was incredible. The green papaya salad was well done, it was not too acidic and all of the ingredients balanced each other out well. However, it was such a small portion! It was mostly lettuce that made it look big but in reality quite small. I've made papaya salad at home before so I know it's not that expensive to make... not sure why you wouldn't provide a heftier portion. Also, my partner got the basil fried rice and found it bland compared to other Thai places where he ordered the same exact dish being a creature of habit. Come for the noodles and the curries and skip the fried rice! I will be back for more delectable noodle pulls.
