Fantastic place! My server was friendly, knowledgeable, and on point. I had the Braumeister's Platter with a side of sauerkraut and could only finish half. Everything was delicious. Finished with some Raspberry Kolachky. My only issue was parking. There's a very limited parking space, which was packed even at around 7pm, but there's additional parking next door. They have a small souvenir selection, but sadly they don't do growlers anymore. Overall a wonderful experience, atmosphere, food, and service. Highly recommended.

Google
Fantastic food and very extensive beer and Meade list. Service was excellent too. Sort of loud here but the conversation was still able to continue with elevated voices. I had the 4 meat German Platter. Delicious and got to try more foods. Our table ordered the duck and someone ordered the pork shank. That was the best out of all of us. We shared the plates to sample everything. Portions are on the larger side. The liver soup was on point. Very good! The only meal that was a disappointment was the beef stroganoff. Maybe it was us that expected a different texture. It still tastes good but did not fit our mental image of what it should look like. Kids menu actually has lots of choices foe the kids! Thank you foe that! It was packed. Apparently we walked in on the 1st day of oktoberfest and they had tapped a real wooden keg too! It was awesome. Was told 45 minute wait. Ended up being 20 and we hit the bar for a pint of on tap as we waited. Looked the part and enjoyed the German style atmosphere. They have a winner here and I can see why it gets great reviews. Thanks for a good time and delicious meal!

Google
Was in the mood for some good German food while staying out in Oak Brook. Tracked down the place and gave it a shot. The atmosphere was amazing, service was excellent and the food was awesome! I absolutely enjoyed my Wiener schnitzel and my server was able to make this happen…1 fillet chicken and 1 pork. My spatzle was tasty and the sauerkraut was delicious. My friend got the sauerbraten and was very satisfied. If you’re in the area and looking for some great German food with a wonderful atmosphere to eat in, then come out and support this local gem. I highly recommend it!

Google
I can not say enough good things about this restaurant! The service was top notch... quick, personable, efficient. The atmosphere was a great old world feel & the food was German comfort food.. a solid win all the way around. I will be returning next time I pass through! I would have posted more picks, but my mind went into eating mode instead of sharing. Maybe next time... lol

Google
They have a very good selection of draft beer. Food is decent and service is great. We went there on a Sunday and it was really busy. We would go back and try more beer and more food

Google
One of my favorite places on earth! 1 BIG negative is that they have over 40 beers on tap and they do NOT allow you to have tasters. Great beers that you can only find here and great food. A little over priced but quality is top notch! The list of German and central European beers is exceptional and they always have the seasonal beers. Food is a great variety of German and Central European choices.

Google
The spritzel accompanying the duck dish lacked flavor and was excessively salted. My husband found his meal to be satisfactory. While the ambiance was pleasant, the overall experience did not justify the cost. The waiter forgot to refill our drinks and forgot my husband's birthday dessert as well. Will not be returning

george M.

Google
Three generations of our family went there for mother's day. They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait. Since there were six of us I expected a wait. There seemed to be an endless line of people going in and coming out. Once we were seated the wait staff took care of us immediately. There was no wait for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Our main coarses were also served without delay. For the most part the food was excellent except for the dish I ordered, the pork shank. It was a little more on the fat side than I had expected. I have had the same dish in Germany and have not encountered this issue.

Yelp
Service could've been a bit better, but the food and beer selection were great! It's been a minute since I was last in Munich, but this place definitely felt like many of the places we ate at when we visited Germany. We tried the Wurst Platter, Hunter's Schnitzel, and the Pork Shank. While they were out of fries by the time we ordered, all the food didn't disappoint and the kids were more than willing to try everything. I'll say the Wurst Platter was the kids favorite. Aside from the food being on point, I was really impressed with the number of German beers they had on tap. Paired really great with all the food we ordered. Last thing I'll mention is this place is definitely great for larger groups. I'm sure we'll be back again soon! 'Til next time, cheers!

Yelp
I live so close to this place I'm surprised we don't come here more often, but a group of us came for dinner at 7 pm on the Sunday before Christmas. I have never seen this restaurant not mobbed, and this time was certainly no exception, but it must have been so all day because throughout the course of us ordering our waiter (who had a good attitude and was friendly and attentive despite obviously being busy) had to keep breaking the bad news that they were out of things: at least 5 items that I know of (pretzels, meatballs, hunter's schnitzel, one variety of soup, and fries) and one of our friends was told she got the last salad to be had in the kitchen (it still looked pretty good for all that). Normally I would get the hunter's schnitzel but they were out of the sauce, so I went with the Konigsberger schnitzel with a lemon caper sauce: good but the other one is definitely better. I also had a glass of the Dansk Mjød Viking Blod Mead, which was floral and honeyed but not overly sweet. My fiance said his bacon burger on a pretzel bun, which came with the same cheese spread you get for the pretzels, was good. The only reason I am knocking them down one more star is accessibility. They desperately need more lighting in the back parking lot: with people racing around like dodge 'em cars when we arrived and the blacktop slick, it was very hard to see. Overall though, will surely return for German comfort food and more mead!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this restaurant for the last year and finally had the chance to last weekend. The drawback of the restaurant is no reservations. We got there last Saturday night at about 5 pm and there was a 25 min wait for 2 people. The place is packed all the time - and after trying the food - I get it. I liked the quaintness of the inside and I thought our server was extremelly nice. He felt bad for some slowness in service, but we thought nothing of it. For drinks - we got the German Apple Martine and Rum Punch. We loved both drinks and ordered 2 of each! Delicious and both left us tipsy - so kudos to the bartender! For food - we started with the pretzel basket. Cheese spread was good - but I'm a sucker for a nice mustard. I would order this again. For entrees - we got the Schnitzels - Budapest and Cordon Bleu. They were delicious and I brought half of the cordon bleu home. Reheated perfectly. We got the corn, spinach, spatzle, and boiled potatoes as our sides. My husband thought the corn was out of this world. I did like his spatzle, but the spinach/potatoes were nothing to write home about. I would definitely come back and order different items on the menu. I don't think you can go wrong on their entrees and drinks.

Yelp
This was our first time here and we will definitely be back! My husband and our friend got a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier that they absolutely loved and his wife got a wine (sorry, can't remember the name). We ordered two appetizers, German Potato Pancakes and Bavarian Pretzel Basket. Both phenomenal and full of flavor but the potatoes pancakes were incredible. The potato pancakes were served with sour cream and apple sauce. The pretzels were served with a super tasty mustard and obatzda cheese spread...reminded me of pimento cheese (didn't try this one). We each ordered an entree and left full and with leftovers. Those too did not disappoint. The service was good, answered all questions we had and gave great suggestions. The ambiance was awesome.

Yelp
We were looking for some genuine German food and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a bar, it has a lodge atmosphere. Out server was very nice and patient as we took our time deciding what to order, since the menu is extensive. We started with an order of mini pierogis . Even though this was an appetizer it could have been a meal. The perogies were I had the chicken paprikash with dumplings. Oh my goodness , it was so good homemade and excellent . The chicken was incredibly tender and the creamy sauce had the perfect blend of tomato, paprika creating a delicious sauce. It was the perfect comfort food. Dinners come with a choice of soup or salad. My husband had stuffed cabbage. Two large cabbage rolls, stuffed with a large portion of meat. They also have an enormous selection of beers and drinks. This will be the place we go to the next time we are looking for some good German comfort food.

Yelp
Wiener schnitzel: kinda dry. Not crispy at all. Wouldn't recommend. Fries pretty crispy and good thickness Pretzel: kinda dry and hard, no special flavor Scottish egg: similar issue. Kinda dry. Everything's dry dry and dry Liver dumpling Soup: good soup flavor but the liver ball taste like dough
google avatar

Yelp
First time at the Bavarian Lodge, but it was excellent! It's crowded so it must be good! The schnitzel was tremendous!! Great service, food was excellent - no complaints! I'll go again when I'm in the area!

Yelp
Went here the other night for the first time. Really enjoyed it. Very Large selection of beers. Bartender very knowledgeable of the beers on tap. Restaurant was very crowded but food still came out in a rimless matter and our service was excellent. Food was very good. Had the combination meal of schnitzel and pork chop. I will definitely be back to enjoy some good German food and brews. Keep up the good work

Yelp
Every time I stand outside in the cold at Christkindlmarket wanting some German food, I ask myself why I don't just pack it up and head here instead. You can eat your potato pancakes and schnitzel without huddling around a sticky table in 20° weather. And the food here is way better. The service is great. The food is great. The atmosphere lively. I don't know why I don't come here more often. This place fills up fast and has a bit of a wait unless you come early. They don't take reservations. This might not be the best option if you're pressed for time.

Yelp
It's a family fav - come for the amazing list of craft beer on top, have the warm Bavarian pretzels as an app, and then order a tasty & delicious entree. I am all in every time on the schnitzel cordon bleu - you get two large schnitzels, mashed potatoes & warm brown gravy, soup/salad, and warm dinner roles. I have never been able to get more than 1 schnitzel & have never considered desert. Others in the fam love the burgers & anything else we have tried. Atmosphere is spectacular- old school - and service is always great. It does suck you can't get a reservation because the wait can often be over 30 min, but that just gives time to have a drink in the great bar & it's worth the wait. Love it!!!

Yelp
Great german food , fast service. The differnt soups are outstanding This is my go to place now for german food and deserts.
google avatar

Rebecca R.

Yelp
Still really good food, good service. Had a bit of a wait this time, but the food was hot, fresh and delicious! This time, all of the sides were excellent, so I'm giving it another star.
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
The authentic German food is always amazing here. The service is good too. I have tried everything and I love it all. The liver dumpling soup is my favorite. I like the beer selection too. I wish they would update the dining room and had a better dessert selection. Parking is limited but they have overflow parking nearby.

Yelp
After driving past a zillion times and trying to go during various closed hours, we finally had a meal at Lisle's German HQ, the Bavarian lodge. Quite a spread we sampled. Ordered Pretzel platter & wurst platter, while we decided what to order for main. The kids loved the hot fresh pretzels & mildly spicy mustard. Cheese spread was also served w pretzels. The wurst sampler were sliced thin and paired with a light horseradish cream sauce & the same mustard as pretzel. Tasty stuff. Ordered stuffed cabbage rolls, meatloaf, roast pork. The spetzle was a new noodle experience for the kids, they were hesitant at first but went to town, one had it plain, the other with gravy. Soup of the day was veggie & was also a big hit. Everything was just exceptional. Idk what they did to the warm sauerkraut but wow was it good. I'm guessing butter or another type of fat emulsified into it. Definitely far tastier than the cold Kraut in my home fridge! We also ordered potato pancakes, decadent deep fried treat paired w apple sauce & sour cream. Yum. Ordered too much and a few boxes came home. Service was fast & friendly. Staff worked well together. You should know: your party will not be seated until all guests are present upon arrival. I would definitely return.

Yelp
The Bavarian Lodge is a little out of the way for me, but I was in the area and had dinner here and am very impressed with the lodge. This is a beer lover's utopia! Especially fans of European lagers, specifically German lagers. The night we were there they tapped a keg of Fest bier and it ended up being some ritual that drew many, many, thirsty people! The Lodge is very rustic and looks like a building you'd find in Bavaria. Lots of wood and cozy. We had fish and chips and a giant Schwein's hax'n, a giant pork knuckle!! The hax'n was very meaty and could easily feed two people. The fish was very good as well. This place is a promised land for beer lovers. They have the IPA's that are so popular now, but the real attraction is the very traditional and authentic German lagers. I like to think I know my beers, but the beer menu was packed with brands and styles I am unfamiliar with. If you love beer, there are no comparisons for a huge menu. Really good food and an amazing beer menu. What's not to love?

Yelp
I finally visited The Bavarian Lodge and am so mad I waited so long! We went on an October Sunday afternoon and you can tell this place is beloved - people were lined up to get in . Always a great sign! We had a very nice server who was on point especially during an already busy Sunday. I had their Bloody Mary which I was a HUGE fan of - checked all the boxes of flavor and not too spicy! The server offered to add spice but I have zero tolerance for spice (unfortunately). Also started with the beer cheese soup which was very good but not the best I've ever had. Their pierogis were DELICIOUS- I'm not an expert but I sincerely enjoyed them! My partner got a brat with fries and ate it all - the portion size was huge! The decor made me feel like I was in Germany - I definitely plan to come back!

Yelp
Update 2/14/24 We came here spontaneously close to 8 pm. We had no issues finding parking in the lot, but the lines were hard to see. It would be nice if the lines were either more visible or more lighting. You guys do not need a reservation, believe it or not, not every restaurant has to have a reservation page. We walked in and were immediately seated. Service was amazing. The staff was very attentive and kind. This is a great place for grabbing drinks, they have an extensive beer selection. I wanted to try more of the menu vs the last time. We ordered a bunch of items. -German potato pancakes 5/5 - incredibly moist and flavorful. I added the applesauce and sour cream to pancakes and it increased the flavor. -liver dumpling soup 5/5 - very hearty soup. The meat itself tasted great when paired with the broth. Dumpling was very meaty and juicy. Beef stock was flavorsome. -choose 3: meatloaf, tiroler schnitzel, thuringer, boiled potatoes, garlic buttered corn 5/5 - all 3 kinds of meat were terrific, no complaints. They were beautifully cooked, tender, savory, and filling. All of the sides were tasty. -roast duck: quarter, bread dumplings 5/5 - duck was very juicy on the inside and had a thin, crispy skin. Eat both together and dip in that gravy. -scotch egg 5/5 - first time having this. Hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage mixture. Interesting texture. It was good though. -Apple strudel 5/5 - fresh, warm apples with cinnamon. Pastry dough was soft and delicious. Honestly, once you take a bite you don't want to put the fork down.

Yelp
This place is legit in every way from the cozy ambiance, to the amazing German food, to the incredible beer selection. Super friendly staff and pleasant patrons make this place a winner.

Bonita H.

Yelp
Our first time going there and waiter was very kind explaining all the dishes and wine/beer list too. All his suggestions were excellent, great authentic German cuisine and food. Large portions that overfilled the plate, wonderful selection on menu. Plus great desserts too. Don't forget to order kolacky or cheesecake. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Our family loves German food - the Bavarian Lodge is the perfect place to come to enjoy a delicious meal!! We were there for lunch l/18/25 and were not disappointed!! Thuringer, sauerkraut, chunky applesauce, German potato salad, Liver Dumpling soup - mmmmmmm. Done to perfection. Ambience is really cool - tons of steins to adorn the walls. Service was impeccable - prices are fair. We will be back!!!!

Yelp
Food was good and service was quick, even on a Busy night. They have a cute fireplace and it is nicely spaced out/decorated. Definitely worth checking out. They do not take reservations so come early!!

Yelp
Bavarian Lodge, how we enjoy our dinners there. Once upon a time there were many German restaurants in the Chicagoland area, now there are very few left. The Lodge has an extensive beer menu, yet we always order Chimay Red.... It's our comfort beer. Growing up in Berwyn, at the time a predominantly Czech community, I enjoy roast pork, dumplings w/gravy and Kolaky (apricot please) for desert. They have a pick three... so then it's roast pork, Wienerschnitzel and Bratwurst. I almost forgot to mention their incredible potato pancakes served with apple sauce and/or sour cream..... one of their many appetizers. They don't take reservations and parking is at a premium, so get there early. I keep promising myself to get more adventurous and try other items from their menu.... It's always next time....perhaps one day I will.....

Yelp
Really enjoyed my meal here! I did the Sausage Platter and it was pretty good. What amazed me more than anything though was the beer list, but not just that, but the servers knowledge of most of the beers. I described what beer I would enjoy and my sever set me up nearly perfectly! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
google avatar

Ken And Laura M.

Yelp
Well, it was very hard to find parking at 5 PM. They do not take reservations and my brother-in-law said they have a bunch of other rules, you have to follow, when you call they tell you. At least that's what he told us when we met up. The service was great. The ambience is old world type of style. They make you feel as if you're in Europe someplace Germany, Bavaria that sort of style. They have an extensive draft beer list. Pretty impressive. So if you're looking for a favorite European beer, that's on tap, this could be your place. I would give the food a three it's not outstanding, but it's not bad either. I guess I would go back one more time to get a better idea of whether this is a go to or not.

Yelp
What a great place and I don't say that to much ,, Nate and Rosie are always a pleasure for I visit them every where the y work. There costumer service is excellent. I love the vibe here it's a wonderful experience. Everyone is amazing,, thanks

Yelp
I so wanted to like this place! Went years ago & was good. Had carryout on 7/30. Taking old school food to Grandma. SO disappointed. They forgot the side of dumplings (which they called & left me msg, when I was already at my destination). Forgot gravy for the roast pork. Cabbage rolls were in a big container, all alone. Shoulda been in a small one. "Kolachky" were made with puff pastry dough-what the heck is THAT?? Apple strudel had tough, flavorless, incorrect dough. Liver dumpling soup was dark & murky. Should not be! Liver dumpling was a rock. Again, not as it should be. Was terribly disappointed. Do not recommend.

Chun B.

Yelp
Super busy, but worth the wait. Appetizers were really well done, the pretzel came out nice and warm, great mustard and cheese on the side. The mini pierogi's were very tasty, nice gravy and the fried onions were a great accompaniment. The schnitzel variety at this place is great. Hunter's schnitzel was really good, gravy was outstanding. The beer list is overwhelming, but the staff is super helpful at providing some guidance and recommendations. Amazing German and Belgian beer list, lots of hard to find drafts too. This place never disappoints, great food and service, that's why there is always a line out the door.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Amazing food! We love pretzel bread and good hot soup! One of our party ordered the pork shank and it was crazy huge, I think they expected something else it was kind of greasy looking instead of the crisp pork roast we see in the States. That is, however how it is authentically cooked.

Coral O.

Yelp
Have come here for years, it's always been great. Amazing food and beer selection. I dream of the meatloaf now that I've moved away often... everything on the menu is delicious.

Glen F.

Yelp
Great German Food. We travelled from NW Burbs since many German restaurants have closed in our area and N/NW Chicago. 1st time we've seen Kassler Ripchen on a menu in forever. Big juicy smoked pork chops were fantastic. Excellent Spaetzle and Red Cabbage. I'm a Sauerbraten maven and it was delicious. Tender, moist and great brown gravy. Both dinners had ample portions so we get a lunch out of it too. Wine was reasonably priced. Liver Dumpling soup was so flavorful I drank the broth from the cup. Dumpling was tasty too but firm. Apple Strudel was just ok. Kinda mushy and needed cinnamon. We came on a Saturday at 5pm. Was seated immediately but service is slow but pleasant and the place is super noisy. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. But we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
So, last night was a very UN- Bavarian Lodge experience. I usually try not to judge on one visit, but this needs sharing. We know they do not take reservations and we know they like to seat your party only when everyone is physically present. However, on a very slow Wednesday evening they refused to seat 2 of our party of 5 ~ one being an 85- year- old woman. They offered to bring her a chair to sit and wait on. Seriously with tons of open tables. Don't think it didn't go unnoticed when you sat 2 of a party of 4 very able- bodied young men. And we know this is a fact because all 5 of us witnessed 2 sitting at the table before the others arrived and noisily made their arrival known. Do you really think anyone would have noticed that you sat only 2 before the rest of the party arrived when there were ample empty tables? So why do your rules only apply to some people and NOT others? And on a slow Wednesday night? Lose your attitude young lady.

Yelp
I've lived in the area off and on for 20 years and this place always intrigued me but I could never convince my wife to go, fatty German food not her thing. But the lot is always full and solid 4 star Yelp reviews so when I was driving my Mom home from the airport after a 15 hour flight from Dubai and I knew she was hungry I said " what about German?" "Sounds great!" She said. Big mistake. Let's start with the positive. The atmosphere is truly remarkable. Cozy golden glow in the dining room with a really nice bar end tables that are not too crowded. They have an excellent beer selection. If this is what attracts you, this looks to be a great place to have a pint or two ....or four....or The food menu is mostly German traditional dishes with a few European dishes and burgers thrown in. Unfortunately, from our experience, I cannot recommend the food. Now I do plan on giving this place one more try, mostly out of curiosity something has to account for those four and five star yelp reviews, but I will share here our experience and a fair warning First, we tried the potato pancakes like others on this thread it's curious they're not offered as a side but honestly they're not much more expensive and so it's no big deal. No one says you can't order it and treat it like a side. However, this recipe is unique, they're much thinner than I've seen anywhere else. And it seemed as if they were heavy on the garlic, not bad by itself but a bit unusual. You know I found them rather mediocre. I like my potato pancakes, a little bit thicker, and a little bit more potato tasting. Next, I had the salad and my mother had the soup. She said the soup was nothing special. And I found the salad so fresh, which is a very positive thing, a bit uninspired itself. Sensually a few different types of lettuce, croutons, and maybe a dash of onion? Not really sure because I didn't really see any other vegetables. For an entrée, my mother got the combination plate with roasted pork chicken, schnitzel, mashed potatoes, and soup. It was really nothing special or outstanding about the taste. Pretty bland actually The biggest disappointment was my dish. I ordered the Szegedin Goulash which, if you read the description on the menu, it says, "chunks of lean pork loin in a creamy stew of Hungarian paprika, fresh sauerkraut, heavy cream and our own blend of spices". What it should have said, "a stew of fresh sauerkraut, with bits of pork loin." I do like sauerkraut, and if you read my other reviews, I love spicy, but this was the most tart yucky tasting sauerkraut I've had in a long time and after two or three bites of pork loin I struggled to find anymore. It is now about seven hours later, and I can still taste it in my mouth and feel it in my digestive system. If you grew up with this sort of thing, you might actually love it. But though I grew up with similar Eastern European food, I just found the various taste combinations a weird and misconstrued version of the original. I had nothing in Germany or Europe, quite like this. That said, my beer was excellent and the place was super crowded. I tried to see what other diners were eating, but I decided I would come back one more time and try something less ambitious. Sometimes these places are well-known for their burgers or maybe a specific plate. But tonight was not a good experience at all. After I go back the second time, I will amend this review, one star up or down based on that. But so far I've not found anyone game enough to go with me!

Yelp
The food was amazing! So many choices. Service was very good. We had our German friend with us, he gave it a thumbs up for being authentic.

Yelp
Some of the best German food I've had in the area and surrounding areas. Sausages are all amazing and the amount of food they give you, is unreal! Come with an empty stomach for sure. Feels like a true Bavarian lodge atmosphere and staff is very nice. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
We met friends and family here last evening for dinner and had a wonderful time. The parking lot was already full early on a Friday night and although there were a lot of people in there, everything was spaced out nicely and we didn't feel cramped at all. The decor in the restaurant is true to its name and brought me back to the time I spent in Austria. The beer selection is vast. I was impressed by the large number of different European beers on tap. The whole staff was terrific from the hostess to the bartenders to our waitress Peggy. Very prompt, polite, and friendly. We were a party of five and ordered a couple of appetizers to start. The potato pancakes were terrific. Some of the best I've ever had. The duck wings were huge and delicious and the goat cheese & mushroom kolachky were flaky and savory. I could have just ate more of all that for dinner but fortunately, we carried on. All of our entrees were generous and delicious. The duck was perfect. My wife ordered the German Platter which had 3 different homemade sausages and a slice of smoked meatloaf (pictured below). Very good! I ordered the sauerbraten which I was slightly disappointed with as the beef didn't seem to be marinated the five days in which the menu claims. It was a little bland and not that tender. I still finished the whole serving, so I guess I can't be too critical. This is the only reason they didn't get a five-star rating from me. However, I do say that the spätzle and braised red cabbage were killer. After dinner, I ordered a schnapps which was served chilled and was the perfect ending to a great time and a great dinner. Next time there I'm ordering the pork shank. A guy at the table near us ordered it and he raved over it. The thing was huge! Please check out their menu on their website to get the low-down. If you like German food, this is a go-to place in the Chicagoland suburbs. We drove 40 minutes to get there and the experience was more than worth it. Prost!

Food was delicious. Drinks were great! Restaurant had a busy crowd which was great! But the server, Randall, was nothing to praise about. He was not in a pleasant mood. It was disappointing when we asked him questions about the dishes, he gave us the impression that he didn't want to be bothered. Worst was, he answered in a demeaning manner. We were very forgiving and hope he treats customers better next time. Looking around at the other server was a young man with longer hair. He was serving a table two tables away. Very happy to provide good service to his customers. Convenient parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. As you enter, the greeters were friendly. Seated right away. Full bar service too

Yelp
The Bavarian Lodge is truly a gem! Their food is excellent and delicious. I ordered their pretzels. scotch eggs, and vegetable soup. Everything was mind-blowing and worth trying. Plus, all their dishes has a fair prices and generous when it comes to serving. Their drinks were also great. Very authentic dishes and drinks. I would recommend this place to all the people I know. You can't go wrong with anything at this place. Looking forward now on my next visit just to order other dishes they have. Thank you!

Yelp
Awesome German spot! Have been here a handful of times. Always pretty busy. Ambiance is very on par with the German fare. If you have family in town or friends who like German food, this is the spot. Great beer selection. Food is always delish! Last time I went I got the sausage platter and pierogis. Can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Everything was excellent. I love the atmosphere. Our service was amazing. The food was 10/10. The drinks were unique and delightful with a kick. I grew up in Wurzburg Germany and have not been back in 30 years the taste and smells took me back. It was just truly the best. I look forward to going back. All meals come with fresh bread that I heard is amazing but we unfortunately were not offered any I am not sure if that is because we ordered the pretzel rolls. So if you go be sure to ask. Apple Strudel Chicken Schnitzel Pork Shank Liver Dumpling Soup WURST PLATTER THE MATTERHORN BURGER CLASSIC PUB BURGER And a veggie burger We also had drinks Baranjager (honey and bourbon) wow!! Viking blood Mead! It tasted the way the name sounds! SKOL!

Yelp
The best German food around. We've been to a ton of places, nothing like this place outside of Germany. Lots of options, and they even include additional European dishes like stuffed cabbage and goulash. The schnitzel is perfectly cooked and not dry like a lot of other places. They have several sausage options as well. They give a ton of sides with every entree, it's a ton of delicious good. The beer list is EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE. There are a ton of limited editions on there as well as beer from every part of Germany. The staff is very knowledgeable not only about the food but the beer as well. Note: they don't take reservations. The most I ever waited was about 20 min, but it's a good wait if you do it at their bar while trying a hidden beer gem.

Yelp
It was ok. The food was good. The ambiance was good. No ghosts, though. My daughter liked her food as well. Pricing was fair, too. The only negative was the server. I understand she was new, but I fellt rushed and got a little annoyed with her checking on us every 5 to 10 minutes.

Yelp
I ate at the Bavarian Lodge yesterday for lunch and was very happy with the food and service. The meals had so much food I had plenty to take home for dinner. We sat at the bar and were served by Hunter and Tyler and then went above and beyond. I am very unfamiliar with German food and they gave great recommendations and my meal was outstanding. Hunter and Tyler did a great job and made the visit perfect. There is an option in the lower-left corner of the menu that let's you pick two or three entrees and sides. That was the best deal to try a variety of different foods. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
Excellent food every time I eat here. When I'm in town I always make time for some cold German beers and schnitzel.

Yelp
Great food. Food took longer. It was pricey but delicious. I had the hunter's schnitzel. Great choices of European food. Will recommend

Yelp
What a nice find. The atmosphere is warm, dark, casual, rustic and classy. Our server Mike was great. Friendly, attentive, knowledgable, and had great suggestions. They have a huge beer menu along with other drinks. The German beer, ayinger brauweisse, Mike recommended had a mild and crisp taste and was very drinkable. For a starter I went with the soup of the day which was a garlic, mushroom, and potato soup. It was mild, warm, and satisfying. Everything you want from a starter soup. For my meal I had the knackwurst sandwich. A garlic seasoned pork sausage topped with grilled onions on a pretzel roll served with mustard and horseradish sauce on the side. I got it with a side of German potato salad. It was so good. All perfectly cooked. Full of wonderful flavor and texture. I also got an order of the Bavarian pretzels. Soft little pillows warm and delicious. I didn't have dessert but they do have several strudels that looked nice. The prices were incredibly reasonable. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, and always around Oktoberfest. I've been to many Bavarian places in the Chicagoland area but this one has the best food by far. They make most of it in-house and you can tell. The liver dumpling soup is a must. If you're opposed to liver, just think of it as the most tender meatball in beef stock you'll ever eat. This place is also coveted for its beer menu. They have beers on tap that you can't find in stores. I have friends from Chicago who take the train out (10 min walk from the Lisle train station) just to enjoy the seasonal selections, which are numerous. Highly recommend if you're a fan of beer and German fare.

Yelp
It was ok. Not sure worth the hype. I loved the potato pancakes and cheese curds but the "pigs in a blanket" stuffed cabbage was disappointing. My mom used to make that growing up and it was so much better than this place. I was expecting so much more flavor and the meat which I don't eat was not even moist! This place was packed and has been here for years so they are doing something right! We waited 45 minutes for dinner because no reservations so go early and SURPRISE, come to find out my cousins car was sideswiped on the street and the person just left!!!!! Service was good but he was busy!

Yelp
I'm kind of afraid to write a review of this wonderful restaurant, because they don't take reservations and they are already very busy. But if you've never eaten here, and love really great German comfort food, and are in the area, then do yourself a favor and eat here. Get here early (like 4:00), or be prepared to wait a bit. We got here at a little after 6 last night, and only waited about half an hour, which wasn't too bad. The service is spot on and friendly, and the ambiance is that of a warm, comfortable German pub. I had the Hunter Schnitzel with mashed/gravy and sauerkraut. Mmmm...so good! Not too much of a wine list, but beers out the wazoo! And while wine is my go-to, beer goes better with German food anyway. But I did enjoy a lovely Northwoods old fashioned with my meal--very yummy! They also have a mix and match meal arrangement, where you can pick 2 or 3 entrees, a starch and a vegetable, and meals come with soup or salad. The liver dumpling soup was delicious! Our friend enjoyed a giant and super tender pork shank, extra crispy skin. Delicious! Oh wow--now I want to go back tonight! lol!
