"The Bavarian Restaurant, opened in 1994 by German-born Thomas Schulze, is located at the foot of Lift 4 at Taos Ski Valley. It features a German-style design with rocks and logs. The menu includes German specialties like wienerschnitzel and rindsroulade, alongside beers from Andechs and Weltenburg monastery-based breweries. Tuesdays feature fondue, and a popular drink is the Jägertee, tea with a shot of schnapps."

What an awesome place and at a perfect location at the bottom of lift 4! Whether winter or summer, no matter what activity stirs up an appetite, it’s easy to come straight here and get a decent meal! Better yet, by the time we ordered to when we got our food, it was maybe 15 minutes? Even if you do have to wait, there is a large drink selection of local ciders and beers, as well as non alcoholic drinks. The menu has something for everyone, and the dessert menu has variety, too! Our food was delicious, and there was a thing that tasted off or poor to us. The portions are large and the appetizers especially could do well for a family if you wanted to try a few different things! Everything was so flavorful and delicious, and the view wasn’t half bad, either!! The winter time I’m sure is beautiful, and I can only imagine how amazing that time is after a ski with some hot chocolate or cider. We will definitely be back!!

Bless their hearts!!! The make the food the best way they can. We had the vegan bratwursts and the side of cabbage, the squash soups and the side of fries. I wish I could say I like any of it. But I didn’t. It is not the restaurants fault. I just did not Like the food at all. Beautiful setting!!! Phenomenal waitstaff!!!! Wonderful cold water to drink and free.

I felt like I stepped into a scene from Virgin River. After a long day of hiking, this hit the spot. Good food with local cider was the perfect way to wind the day down. Outdoor seating with an outdoor bar allows you to really enjoy being in Taos. We are already talking about another trip back!

We were out for a day of skiing and stopped at the Bavarian for a little break. Usually the food is outstanding. Today that was not the case. I had a cup of coffee, which is the worst cup of coffee I have had in decades. It was extremely bitter. It was weak. It had no flavor And it left me with a mild stomach ache. How that’s possible in Taos I don’t know. We have a local coffee roaster and there are numerous exceptional coffee roasters in Santa Fe so good coffee is local. This tasted like some bad canned coffee from the 70s. Truly awful. I have had coffee at the Bavarian before and it was not what I had today. My friend had a bowl of the vegan gluten-free soup. We are always happy to see that since we are both gluten-free and vegetarian. And the soup was quite nice, but the bowl was half empty. It was a cup of soup in a large bowl. $10 for a cup of soup? It’s possible that it was so popular that that was all that was left, we don’t know. When I ski with this particular friend, this is our go to and we’ve never had a bad experience like we did today. Maybe it was an off day. It was quite crowded. It was otherwise an absolutely beautiful day. Will be back. We just hope it’s better.

What a fabulous place to eat and enjoy the views! The German Sausage Sampler was fantastic with three types of sausage, 2 types of mustards, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and red cabbage! The server was great; she was very nice and helpful. The weather was trying to decide if it would rain, and the cashier assured us we could move inside if it did. I'd highly recommend - if only for the views. But, you add in great food, a relaxed atmosphere, pleasant people, and you've got a winner!

Super pretty area, so peaceful. The Bavarian has a wonderful deck and picnic tables, great food, and beautiful German architecture mixed with mountain ambiance in Carson National Forest.

Google
A surprisingly delicious food. Everything I tasted was amazing! Service was great, you order at the counter and they will bring it out to you (at least during summer months) Price point was great considering the location! Owner was so helpful and sweet! We came back daily during our Taos visit.

Always worth the trip, we had several beers and the German Sausage Sampler. The beer was treat, the sampler was good, but portions were reduced from our last visit. Atmosphere is six stars!

Yelp
Best restaurant in Taos Ski Valley period! Seating on the terrace watching skiers coming down on a sunny day.... Hard to bit the scenery! On top of that the food (German is well executed!) Everything is delicious! Don't forget room for the apple strudel!!

Robin M.

Yelp
I had a late lunch there. It has always been a favorite place to eat while taking a break from skiing. The food wasn't as good as it has been. I had the Hungarian goulash to start. It was fine but not exceptionally tasty. The bowl was half full and the contents only warm. The German cucumber salad was slimy and tasteless; it came with a dish of congealed sour cream. I ordered apple strudel because I remembered how light and flaky it was in past years. The pastry was so tough that I had to cut it with a knife. The filling was barely warm, bitter and too sweet at the same time. The waiter brought the strudel with my soup so the ice cream melted by the time I was ready to eat it. I'll probably go back, since the ski area has closed the nearby cafeteria which was at least cheaper. The deck is a nice place to sit in the sun and rest from skiing. It's a convenient place to meet up with people and has a good selection of beers.

Yelp
Ideal after a big hike! Friendly, quick service, good selection of drinks, and the pretzel was fresh, soft and delicious. We also ordered the sausage sample plate with the sides. We split these to dishes and each had a beer. It was amazing to sit outside under the umbrellas and look up the mountain.

Yelp
OK, so we did the "Bavarian Sleigh Ride Dinner" and..what a joke. First, the "sleigh ride" up the mountain: it's freezing, snowing, and unenjoyable because you're trying to conserve all possible body heat by tucking into yourself and praying for it to be over. Then, you arrive, and although we're still completely bitter about the experience, we have to admit that it is indeed lovely. It's warm and cozy and charming and it does feel like you've stepped into some alternate alpine universe. We also have nothing but nice things to say about the service and appetizers. Everything is brisk, of course, because they need to turn over for the second seating, but we never felt rushed and everyone was pretty nice. We got a German beer and some wine and dug into the pickled brussels sprouts (amazing), cucumber salad (less impressive but also tasty), deviled eggs (loved the curry, needed salt), and the fig tartlets (good and interesting). For appetizers, the carrot and ginger soup was piping hot (first time in Taos, the stoves do work here!) and elegant in its simplicity. The salad, on the other hand, was stupid: plain mixed greens with a couple spiced pecans, a nonexistent dressing, and a random poached pear on the side. Uh, no. The main courses also left a lot to be desired. All of them come with the same sides: lukewarm mashed potato gloop, blanched green beans (no salt, no nothing), and some bland red cabbage. The short ribs were tender but dry and the trout almandine was uninspiring. Big disappointments. Oh--and this will come into play below--please note that our daughter had a Kraft mac-n-cheese with a side of those blanched green beans. The meal at least ended on a sweet note (until the check came; more on that anon) because the desserts were delicious. The chocolate pot de creme with raspberry sauce was perfection and the strudel with cinnamon ice cream was equally toothsome. Then: the bill. We knew beforehand that it would be $125 a person, and we honestly would have been fine with that because we had checked beforehand that our daughter could order a kid's item a la carte. And you know how much that a la carte--recall: Kraft mac-n-chee+plain green beans--was? SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS. Like, we get that it's a ski place and everything costs an arm and a leg, but that is so insultingly ludicrous and we were so pissed off that it completely soured the whole experience. Then, when we got back on the sleigh, all the blankets were covered with snow awaiting us, which our "escort" had not bothered to clear off (just whack it with a broom like the lift guys do, dude!) but then had the audacity to ask for a tip for his role of accompanying us on the sled, LOL! Maybe come and eat here under normal circumstances and enjoy a B+ experience, but do not do the "special excursion" with a kid to save your life. Two stars. Several days later, we're still pissed.

Yelp
Whoever is in the kitchen does not know anything about German food. The gulash soup used to be (4 yrs. ago?) great and a perfect option at the end of a run. Now it's tasteless. Equally so the salads and sides. Imagine cucumber salad with no vinegar, salt, sugar or herbs. The potato salad is definitely not German potato salad. They used to bake their own bread and it was delicious. Now the trout is overcooked and dry, not rainbow but ruby trout. Now everything is bland, bland, bland. The only tasty option is the sausage plate, and that's because they don't create the sausages - they are imported. What a shame that this place has gone so downhill (pun intended). We used to love it in the summers as well, looking over the verdant meadows, dodging the occasional showers and sharing a beer or two.

Yelp
I had been to the Bavarian a couple of times but it was usually closed due to it being the offseason. After a leisurely hike to Lake Williams, we decided to stop in for some German beer and fare. Since it had been raining, the outdoor furniture was soggy, so we opted to eat inside. The inside was welcoming, especially after being caught in the rain. Order for food and beer was placed at the bar. We also paid at the same time. Pretty much the same process as Door 38 Pizza. As a reward for our hike, my wife and I splurged. She had the Veggie Melt and I had the Veal Brat with German potato salad. We shared a large pretzel with beer cheese. I capped off the order with a 32 oz stein of Paulaner Salvator Food came out in about 10 minutes. The veal brat I had was awesome, while the potato salad was a bit disappointing. My wife liked the veggie melt but it was too much food for her. We both loved the pretzel and beer cheese. My only gripe about this spot is the price. Everything seemed overpriced but I understand they gotta make money too and only have a few months to do so. The scenery does help justify the price but it started to rain again as we ventured out to the patio again. Luckily we found us a spot to keep us dry. I would definitely come back here a couple of beers in the future. May have to think twice about eating here though...

Yelp
This wonderful Bavarian building, the ambience, the smells, the coziness, the food, and the fun holds such special times for me and my family. It was magical. They are trying to bring it back but it is not there yet. We need someone like Thomas to bring it back. The sleigh ride dinner on Sat. was a start. The trout was good but it was not almondine (no almonds) which was fine for me the sauce was good. My husband had the braised ribs and they were good. The sides were nothing to write home about. The haricot verts were cooked nicely but no butter or spices just plain. The carrot ginger soup was not good too bitter. The pots du crème were wonderful but way too much whipped cream on top. We will try this place again because we want so badly for this magical place to return. We wish them well. The sleigh ride was delightful! They served the best hot chocolate prior to boarding the sleigh.

Yelp
Gone a bit overboard with their COVID response, but so does everywhere else in the Taos Ski Valley. Apparently, Schnitzel may spread virus, but $6 pretzels are OK? Bitte nehmen Sie die Realität in den Griff, um Gottes willen!! Hope sanity prevails soon. Until then, bring a cooler with beer and sandwiches with you to enjoy after a hike. No traditional service at this glorified hot dog stand. Expensive German beer. The last may be worth a try. If I receive the Typical Party Line from Management, then be sure to include why you need a menu of hot dogs to comply with state and local mandates!

Kathy G.

Yelp
It's a must see when you ski Taos!!! Love it here. Get in line and take a number. Good hot chocolate and good beef stroganoff, which they call something else...

Annie B.

Yelp
We loved this place! We were celebrating our engagement and both Leah and Andrew went out of their way to make sure we felt special and had an amazing time. I'll be recommending to all my friends and I hope to be back soon!

Rose L.

Yelp
Great German food and beer! We had a lovely time sitting out on the deck enjoying the beautiful scenery. We had a hard time figuring out how to get here besides skiing in. We have a couple newbies with us and could not do the skiing to get there during the day so we looked for shuttles from TSV basin and unless you are a guest at the Blake you may not get there. Hopefully TSV will figure out how to do transportation for lunch from the basin to the restaurants at the Bavarian and Phoenix Grill which is next door. Seems like there would be more people wanting to visit but do go due to transportation.

Yelp
My girlfriend called a week prior to make plans for my 40th birthday. So, we make the 3 HOUR TRIP to come up, only to find out the fucking place is closed for a private event. Needless to say, we're both EXTREMELY PISSED. I'm pissed, because I had been looking forward to this since I knew about it and the fact that my girlfriend went through all the work to try and surprise me. She's pissed that we got all dressed to and came all the way out here to be denied service. Not a mention of this on their website or anything, so we thought we were in the clear. This is highly disrespectful, by all staff involved in not making this more known, so we (and I'm assuming probably others) were likely inconvenienced traveling all the way up there to get turned away. Fuck that place. Way to ruin my 40th birthday.

Mark D.

Yelp
So much fun in the winter, the ambiance makes you feel as if you are in the Swiss alps. The menu is all German and very tasty. In the winter they made us line up outside in the 15 degree weather, that wasn't fun, and then we had to fight for a table, also not fun. But, it's a great experience and worth visiting now and then. Oh, we went in the summer and the music was really loud and obnoxious (some 1970's funkadelic) so a warning for sensitive ears

Yelp
-Disappointing experience due to pricey mediocre food. Wouldn't return. -Beautiful restaurant and setting, but nowhere to sit upon arrival with numerous unoccupied uncleared tables. -This is an order and pay at the register setup with a food runner delivering food to tables. (You are prompted for a full-service tip at the register.) -Nobody came back to ask how our food was after it was delivered. -The trout portion was small and thin. The flavor was decent, but not great. The mashed potatoes were bland. The red cabbage had an indescribably bad taste and was inedible. -Although the small bowl of goulash had nice red skin potatoes and tender chunks of meat, the dish lacked flavor. The slice of rye bread was good. -The fries were under-cooked and only an off-brand bottle of ketchup was available on each table. Hard to believe at such high prices.

Yelp
Stopped here after a snowshoe around the ski hill. It was a beautiful day, and though we had plans to have a pre-dinner drink at our lodging, we decided if there were any outdoor seats available after our hike, we'd check it out. Turns out, it was not far from closing time and there were plenty of tables. So hopped in the socially-distanced line, which moved quicker than I was anticipating, so I had to make a decision quickly. Draught beers were expensive ($14!!!) and came in a plastic cup, but I didn't like many of the canned options so under pressure just went with the Lager, same thing my partner ordered. I probably should have asked for a half pour, wonder if they would have accommodated that. We also got a pretzel ($8!!!) because after all that hiking, didn't want to drink that much without something to soak things up. We grabbed a bench seat and a table on the outdoor deck and did some people and dog watching. The weather was perfect, the views outstanding. It was definitely overpriced, but we are on vacation for the first time in a year and figured, we had the budget, so when in Rome... Not sure I'd go out of my way until they open their full serve restaurant, as love me some good German food. But it was nice just to get out and feel a little 'normal' again.

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Fantastic sleigh ride, although it would've been nice to know there was a supplementary charge in addition to the $125 prix fixe dinner. Fantastic atmosphere - very rustic and European. The food was disappointing. Appetizers and sides were bland, soup over spiced, mains just ok, apple strudel was really disappointing. Service was also slow, which was hard to understand, as much of the meal was already pre-made. Frankly, not worth the price.

Beth C.

Yelp
The Bavarian is a dreamy destination nestled in the Taos ski valley. We like to visit after hiking Williams Lake or Wheeler Peak. This past weekend was their first weekend open for Memorial Day. We were there on Saturday and found a table in the beer garden, which says no dogs. But everyone has dogs. It's Taos! We ordered from the bar on the deck and they brought the food. We hoisted our steins and enjoyed 3 of their offerings. The German Lager, the Amber and the Double bock. Delicious! Our food arrived and they said the fryer was down so no fries. Oh well, the beer brat, pork schnitzel sandwich and ham pickle plate were all amazing. Because the fryer was down they offered free dessert, and we each enjoyed a hot fudge sundae. What a treat! After trekking through a lot of snow to get to Williams Lake and back, we were extremely happy!

Simon F.

Yelp
The atmosphere is great and really brought me back to trips to Bavaria. Service is friendly but very slow even on a night when only half of the tables were occupied. Their greatest sin however is that the food is mediocre. I could not point to a single dish that was good. It would not be good for $30 and definitely not good at $125.

Alex G.

Yelp
Ah, The Bavarian! An oasis of warmth and alcohol in the desert of snowy sobriety that is The Mountain. Found this spot early on in my Taos Ski Valley adventures, and was instantly charmed. I went there a few times during my stay, and always enjoyed it. Sadly, I never got to try the pretzels with cheese dip. They actually don't offer that during all hours, which was disappointing. At one point they said that due to restricted menu during that time I could have the pretzel but not the dip. Nooooooo! After killing it on the slopes, the goulash is amazing... despite tough meat. And having a cold beer on tap to accompany it takes the cake. Bathrooms are clean. Service is a bit all over the place. I've had one amazing server here, one good one, and one who always seems annoyed. As with everything, your experience may vary. Still, overall a great experience whenever I stopped in. Highly recommended for when you're on the mountain. Major downside for boarders is the looong flat run back when you're done. The only way out is down the mountain (when the nearby lift isn't working - it wasn't the whole week I was there). That's a big downside to coming here - leaving kills the buzz. On a snowboard there's no easy way to get back. You have to just unclip and walk through the thick snow for 15-20 min. Yikes. Still, that didn't stop me from going there at least thee times during my week on the mountain.

Dan B.

Yelp
After walking around at 10 thousand feet, this was a nice place to stop and get refueled. I've said it before, I'm really a tough judge on German food. My family is german and I lived there for a couple of years. We stared with a giant pretzel which was very good. Would have liked some spicier mustard, but the pretzel was very well done. I had the jaegerschnitzel with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. It was really good! Not too tough or greasy. For dessert we shared an apple strudel and it was good. Nothing overwhelming but was a nice finish to our meal. Staff was nice but slow to follow up on our drinks. No other issues. Great place for some Bavarian dishes.

Yelp
This is the spot for beer! It's located right at the base of Lift 4 just past the lake. It's a gorgeous area the scenery is breathtaking. This place was packed and they short hours due to covid and possibly due to it being out of season. It's a ski lodge but I really love being up here during the summer for hiking and biking. They are definitely a tourist spot and they capitalize on it but logistically, it's not the most accessible spot so I expect prices to be a bit higher. I ordered a bunch of things off the menu to try it out since I may not get another opportunity for a while but it was pretty good. IDK if I'd call it the most authentic (especially looking at the menu descriptions) but it was still pretty good. I think it was about $9 for a single (large) pretzel, typically you'd expect a basket of brotchen with a pretzel and some other delicious breads but I think the real selling point here is the beer, followed by the view. The goulash was not too bad, it was hearty and savory. It was a mix of pork, beef, and some potatoes served with some grainy/rye bread. Typically if the goulash has potatoes, it's considered a full meal but otherwise, it can be served with dumplings or noodles. The single letdown was the beer brat, it was served cold and so it was hard to really get a good account for the flavor. It came topped with sauerkraut on a hoagie roll but It would have been better on a crusty brotchen roll or bolillo or even just by itself on the plate with some sauerkraut on the side and some of that rye bread. The finale was the apple strudel and really that was the main thing I was really looking forward to. You know the strudel scene from ingloious basterds, well it was close. The pastry was packed with tangy apples and raisins, loaded with light sweet whipped cream and a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pastry itself was a little soggy, really missed that crunch but it tasted so good, you almost immediately ignored the lack of crispy crust and focused on the tart apples and sweet light whip. Overall, it's definitely a place for beer and good times and if you are looking for something to eat along with your tasty beverage, you won't be disappointed. Check this place out, you'll have a great time.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Great spot to check out Taos Ski Valley with plenty of outdoor seating right at the base of a run. There was a line around lunchtime but super friendly crowd and everything moved quickly. More of a beer and light lunch menu but part of the price is the view and location.

Kiki S.

Yelp
This place is at the bottom of the ski lift but you can also drive up to it. It was busy and bustling when we stopped in for lunch while checking out the mountain. You order at the bar and sit down with a number. The bevs and food were great! We had the massage kale salad, and hamburgers with fries and we all shared the pretzel with mustard and beer cheese as it was enormous! Great food! Friendly service! We will be back...

Maxwell Y.

Yelp
Wow, I can't believe it's been five years since I penned my first and only review for this place. I have since been here numerous times and have indeed stayed in the chalets. As the only remaining authentic German restaurant in all of NM, this is my favorite spot in NM. While the rest of the state is obsessed with their grapefruit-taste-bud-numbing IPAs and cucumber strawberry gooseberry cilantro gosé swill, this place continues to serve the only beer that really matters: Bavarian Purity Law bier from the Fatherland. Currently they are utilizing the Andechs brewery, and you get your classics: doppelbock, marzen, weissbier, and vollbier. And, you can get them in a 32oz stein. Righteous. The food continues to be outstanding*, with their sausage plate at the forefront for me. The weisswurst is my favorite. They have new items on the menu this year that are a bit lighter, like the sea bass and various salads, but you've also got old hearty favorites like the spaetzle (still heavenly) and schnitzels. *I will say that since hiring a new chef after the last left (sadface), the new chef is a bit heavy on the salt. The gravy burned my mouth from saltiness alone on opening weekend. The new deck and space is delightful. Many fond memories over the past five years have involved hiking and having a stein in the glorious high altitude sun afterward. I've also been to their Oktoberfests for the past couple years, and I have to say that they're quite a bit more disappointing than actually dining here any other time. They never have spaetzle or good sausage types (just regular bratwurst). Last year they even had the nerve to bring in a bitter American beer. Bah! But I will continue to come and support my one true love of NM, because if they ever closed down ... my heart would be crushed :(

Madison T.

Yelp
This was a super cozy spot at the top of the mountain! I was surprised it was open for lunch, because online it said it was only open on the weekends? We did go during ski season which is maybe why it was open for the skiers, but not sure... The place would have been pretty hard to get to during winter if you don't have 4 wheel drive, it was a lot of ice uphill. While here we got the mixed sausage plate. It came with 3 different sausages, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes. I substituted the veal bratwurst for a beer one and decided the beer brat was the best! I also shared a small beer with my partner to finish the meal! The entree was perfect sized between us two (we usually split all the time) but was a little pricy... overall I think this is a nice place maybe for a cozy dinner and would recommend trying it if you haven't had German food before!

Joe L.

Yelp
Came around lunch time on a Saturday. It's packed but well worth the wait. Grab a stein and wait for your seat. We waited about 20 mins for two people. There's outdoor seating as well. We both had the Jager schnitzel and it was a giant portion. Service was great despite how busy they were. Definitely will be back for lunch or a few beers next time we're in taos skiing!

Bobbye V.

Yelp
Quintessential German restaurant, so authentic I was shocked I didn't bump into anyone in lederhosen. Spectacular views of the ski valley and steps away from the lift. We visited in summer and whether the menu was limited due to the season or the pandemic it did not disappoint, we loved every entree we ordered. Excellent beer menu and ciders as well.

C. G.

Yelp
Hubby & I stopped in for Apres ski after an awesome day on Taos! He had the Goulash soup and we shared the spaetzle with sausage (in cream). It was delish!! A little decadent for my taste, but sharing it was perfect for me. The fresh, hot bread was heavenly, and thankfully, if you wanted more, you had to ask. The stein of beer on tap was perfect at 3:30! It was chilly on the patio, so we moved inside, which was cozy & warm. Service was good, and the plates came out quickly. The trek back to the base was easy, mostly downhill! I would absolutely recommend!

Nicole T.

Yelp
We love this place. We come to taos every year and one of the high lights of the trip is our visit the Bavarian. Best food, best drinks, and desserts.

Anna B.

Yelp
Life changing food, beer, and environment. The Bavarian was at the top of the list of places my husband and I wanted to visit, and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed everything we ate and wished we had another day to go back and try more. The beer selection was fantastic and the staff was so kind and helpful, making us feel welcome. 10/10 experience!

Matt D.

Yelp
Food was fine, love the huge beer steins and outdoor apre vibe. Downside was we were trapped there for three hours after a mediocre dinner after which a drugged out shuttle driver almost killed us driving 45 miles an hour through deep snow on a windy dirt road. Go for a beer but definitely do not eat there for dinner.

Alex J.

Yelp
So I haven't stayed here, and haven't eaten here, but it sure is a great place for a beer after a day on the slopes. The atmosphere is super fun, and the authentic German beers are delicious. The views, as you can see from the picture, are on point for an apres spot. The music was a little loud for my tastes, but other than that a great spot for the end of a ski day.

Cassie P.

Yelp
After a morning skiing Taos, nothing hits the spot quite like The Bavarian. This has been my family's go to restaurant for years, but I returned for the first time in recent memory a few weeks ago. It's a small spot and definitely a prime contender for the best meal on the mountain so was packed. We waited about 30 minutes to get a table and inside was mass chaos. If you're lucky, you can squeeze in the bar or track a waiter down to grab a German beer while you wait (and watch the likelihood of you getting back on that mountain drift away with every sweet sip). Know that once the chaos subsides, you're in for something delicious. My party of four was seated at a table with a single diner. It wasn't a problem though, skiiers are generally friendly and he happily engaged in conversation with us. I convinced my boyfriend to split an order of cheese spaetzle and the sausage sampler. My dad got the Hungarian goulash, and my brother the schnitzel. The portions are big and we ate until we were stuffed because it was all that good. Add on another beer, it quickly became clear there was no way we were going to bear the freezing elements and strap on our skis again. Worth it? Totally. I'm sure if you have more self restraint than I, you can control what you eat and at least make a couple more runs afterwards. I heard they are expanding soon and that will be clutch. For now, try to avoid peak times and don't wait until you're starving to sit down. Once you do sit down, enjoy the experience and... Prost!

Rachelle B.

Yelp
We looooved this spot. Lots of beer to choose from, great service and an amazing patio to enjoy the warm spring days. We felt like we were in a slice of European Heaven here in Taos!

This was an exciting treat after a long day of skiing. We started with some wine and a beer flight and then enjoyed a variety of German treats including a delicious charcuterie board. It's a fun ride getting to the restaurant and would recommend having 4WD. Must do if visiting Taos.

Yelp
You have to visit just for the great views out on the deck! I drank the blonde beer and paired it with the apple strudel and strawberry sorbet. My mom has the hot chocolate with whipped cream, and it was great too! I recommend coming here year round.

Yelp
The best soft pretzel ever. Sit up at the bar, grab a brew and pretzel, and chat with the Chilean bartender who is the absolute sweetest!

Yelp
Although always crowded for lunch during ski season it is worth the wait. The food is fabulous, new and different flavors and staff is friendly albeit always on a rush because it is so crowded. We loved it so much we had lunch here twice in a row. Have some warm apple cider.

Yelp
We went during lunchtime late in the ski season, and I gotta say this place offers quite the experience. And by "experience", I mean... --It was so packed the deck resembled a mosh-pit more than a restaurant. --You'll sit there for 45 minutes, trying to get the attention of the wait staff, without a server ever once making eye contact with you. You'll start to wonder if maybe you've somehow died (most likely of hunger) and are now a ghost trying fruitlessly to communicate with the living, doomed to a lonely eternity in a "Sixth Sense" style nether-realm. But instead of trying to talk to your loved ones, you're just trying to get a menu from a surly sorority girl in lederhosen. --There will be a DJ (who immediately earned the nickame "DJ Down Syndrome" from everyone in earshot), spinning the kind of EDM that you might play if you wanted to make your pets commit suicide, blaring it through tinny speakers at a non-existent dancefloor. --A plate with a couple of sausages costs $18, because apparently you're paying to send them to Sausage College. Which, given how bro-y the crowd is here, might be a better name for this place than "The Bavarian."

Yelp
We visited The Bavarian 2 times over a 3-day visit! The weather was so perfect, we sat outside in their large patio and had great pretzels and beers. And the french fries are awesome too. The prices are reasonable. The staff is outstanding and very friendly. It's about a 10 min drive in a winding and sometimes rough road from the center of the village, but well worth it.

Yelp
$300 worth of HORRIBLE. We went on fondu night hence I was locked into a $48 per person menu and being a vegan had NO OPTION AT ALL but lettuce served with a side of pork. I watched my family eat bread dipped in a pot of boiling cheese soup all night and that was their meal. No healthy steamed veggies to dip in the cheese like a nice piece of steamed broccoli, zucchini, butternut squash or a carrot, green beans or yams, or asparagus only carbs and fat. Cool location, but not for this vegan.

Yelp
The Bavarian has incredible German food... good enough to drive all the way to the Ski Valley for. The several sizes of beers are excellent, as is the selection. Personal favorites are goulash (With incredible rosemary bread) and spatzle... and their sausages are very tasty.

Yelp
Great German beer, great authentic food, excellent experience. I ordered the vegetarian spatzel and a 32 oz brew to wash it all down. The waiters and waitresses wear the coolest outfits that make you forget you're just a few miles from the desert climate of New Mexico.

Yelp
Truly one Of my favorite places in the world! Sitting in a traditionally Bavarian style lodge looking on to the most beautiful part of Taos Ski Valley and sipping wine and beer eating classic German food while a DJ spins fun music...well folks, that's my idea of heaven. It's possible that my experience is enhanced by my deep desire to leave the world behind and be a full time ski bum 3 months a year but I can't see a human not enjoying their time here! The servers are TSV veterans who seem to be having as much fun as the patrons while wearing traditional German dresses and slinging pints of beer. Start with a pretzel, try the veggie spatzle, the goulash, or the streusel. Even if you've never put a ski on, pretend to be a ski bum and join in the party atmosphere.

Yelp
This out of the way restaurant (from the base village) is a great find when visiting and stay in the Taos and Taos Ski Valley area. We were in the area for the week skiing and wanted to go to an restaurant that provided a unique experience. The Bavarian provided it all: unique experience, great service (Bianca), great food, great drink. Thank you!

Yelp
We had SO MUCH FUN spending time here for our apres ski. Cute little log cabin feel nestled near chair 4 with waiters and waitresses dressed and talking like true Germans. They serve the lunch menu until 3:30, at which time they have an apres ski menu from 3:30-5:30 before the dinner menu comes out. The apres menu included such items as 2 pretzels for $3 (what?!) and goulash, both of which were super fresh and warm, hitting the spot after skiing all day. They have a great german beer selection, paving the way for an extra-enjoyable ski via the beautiful, easy Rubezail trail back to the village :) This trail supposedly closes to skiers wanting to return at 4:30, although a local told us she has skied back at 6:00 without anyone noticing or caring. If you're not that daring, there is a shuttle that will take you back. I'll most definitely be back nearly every time I ski at Taos.

Yelp
First time here! Food was amazing along with the hot chocolate and beer we had. Servers were dressed Bavarian, which added to the overall charm. We will definitely be eating here again!!

Yelp
We cannot say enough about the wonderful food, friendly and accomodating staff, unique room and location the Bavarian had to offer during our 4-night stay. My wife, brother and sister in law and I had of the best ski vacations imaginable. A special shout out to Brendan for the fantastic breakfasts. Thanks to Anna and Chelsea for their providing personalized service at check in and dinners. If you want a unique and personalized ski vacation on the slope in Taos then stay at the Bavarian.

Yelp
So cute! This chalet/cabin is charming with seating centered around a fire place with tables situated into cozy nooks, decked with sheepskin throws on the chairs. This place really feels like a nordic ski hut. The bar serves German brews out of steins and looks to have hearty and soul-warming grub. BTW the bathrooms are awesome- clean and charming, roomy for ski gear of boots and jackets, a nice retreat from the rest of the resort's facilities. Sit at the bar for an apres brew and take the shuttle back to the lot when it starts up at 430pm or ski back (but it's an annoying cat track which isn't fun to pole yourself through once you have a few brewskis in ya). Another option- come up on the shuttle at 430 or stay for dinner after skiing. They say that dinner is touch and go, it can be super busy or super dead, so call ahead to see what their availability is and get shuttle details.
