You shouls choose this hostel, if you prefer a quaint vibe. I liked almost everything about this hostel. The staff were very welcoming and efficient whenever requested for a service. The rooms were clean. The location of the hostel is the best part. Just a minute walk to the Princes street and Leith street, and 5 min walk to the Christmas market. The shower and the washrooms area could be bit crampy, especially for a big or tall person. I'd hope better options for breakfast than just toast and cereals tbh. Having said that, I was very happy with my stay, and will recommend for solo travelers to Edinburgh.

Welcoming staff, helpful and positive. Conveniently Opposite Waverley train station Room smelled of alcohol and not well ventilated, was humid, but was busy due to New Year's Eve. nice kitchen but crowded especially at morning breakfast. Get there before 8am to avoid the rush. Shower rooms are very small, no space to dress, only about 40cm x 100cm. The shower itself was large enough about 90cm x 100cm. Only two small hand wash basins in a tight corner. Recommend to get into shower around 7am to avoid queues.

I stayed in a 6 person room, everything is clean and well constructed, a locker is available for your kit and locks are rentable for £3 if you forget yours. Facilities are everything you could need and the kitchen is well equipped if you want to do some cooking Staff are super friendly, always give any new arrivals a nice greeting/walk around and can't do enough to help with any issues! For a hostel, it's everything you can ask for and a greet price and location! Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city

Liked · We went there for a night. The experience was very good since we didn't really use the toilets repeatedly. Beds were extremely comfortable and clean and room was cosy. Staff was friendly and cooperative. Disliked · The toilet/shower area could have been bigger. The doors of the stalls were colliding with each other. The washbasins were tucked in a slanted corner, which did not leave much room to use those.

I had a very bad experience in this hotel. The room was already not properly clean when I arrived, but what happened after is even worse. While I was still inside the room, the cleaner came in and started spraying a strong chemical product everywhere without warning. I asked him to stop immediately because the smell was too strong and I was coughing. He looked at me and said no, and even added that I should not be here. That was extremely disrespectful, shocking, and humiliating. I felt unsafe, disrespected, and forced to leave my own room because of the chemicals. No professionalism, no basic human respect, and no apology. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior for any hotel. I am very disappointed and I would never recommend this place to anyone.I had a very bad experience in this hotel. The location is the best thing about this extremely pokey hostel. The entire bathroom amenities for upwards of 40 people, consists of 3 toilets, 2 hand basins (in an extremely cramped space) and 4 showers. 1 shower had no hot water another a broken door. Need to climb a steep set of stairs from street level to access the hostel. Not a hostel for people with a disability. The one set of stairs are the only access. You’d be lucky to get out if there was an emergency. Fire springs to mind and the thought made me uneasy. Cramming as many people as possible into a confined space feels like a money grab. The website is very sleek and pretty. It has well photographed images. Unfortunately the reality is quite different. Rooms are cramped with triple bunks and the room was stifling and stuffy. A light and electrical outlet in the bunk was a bonus. Communal kitchen small but functional. I missed breakfast which is included so can’t comment on that. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Slept poorly due to street noise and poor ventilation. Overall a very disappointing experience one I won’t be repeating. Hard to recommend.

When I arrived at 'The Baxter Hotel' I'd just arrived by train and been on a long journey from London. I was feeling a little tired and was greeted with a smile & a friendly host. Afferming my details were done quickly, from my passport information. Then I was given my door card and offered a lock to protect my belongings in a caged locker. Once settled in to my room and seen my sleeping position. Beds offered are Bunk Beds & you can ask to sleep on bottom bunk if you have difficulty climbing up to the middle or top bunk. You can then help yourself to a hot drink - free of charge, which goes down very well after a long journey. The beds are medium / hard to sleep on. The rooms are very quiet & you get a good night's sleep. You can stay until late but lights out in your room at 10.30pm. Suggest you either use your mobile or a torch to help you seeing your room. Breakfast, which is included in the hire booking of £17 is available from 8am until 10am. Anything from hot and cold drinks, bread & toast, butter and jams and eggs are Free to eat & drink. You are required to leave the room at end of your booking at 10am. If you want to extend your stay that day, you can leave your case / belongings, then go out but return for them when you leave to go home. My stay was very special and enjoyable. People staying are very friendly & helpful & staff are too. The Hire price is a very reasonable charge of £17 stay per night. I would highly recommend this Hostel to stay in during any trip taken.

Friendly Staff, Cleaned Showers & Beds. Complimentary Breakfast or even you can cook your own breakfast. Good place because it provides easy access to places like Scott Monument, Calton Hill, Waverley Station, Princess Street.

Yelp
Over the weekend in Edinburgh, I stayed over at a rather fancy looking hostel, solely so I can pretend that I'm living the life of luxury *twirls curly moustache* The Baxter is a really nice hostel located smack in the middle of the city centre, just behind the Apple Store on Princes St. Based on location, it's pretty damn perfect! The hostel itself is smaller than I expected. Those wide angle shots on Hostelworld could easily fool you! But regardless it was a pretty nice and comfy place, with shiny equipment and deco in the kitchen, which I loved! They have the best stove and ovens. Best you utilise it for dinner when you're there!! The dorms have nice comfy beds, with plug points and reading lamps at every bedside, though I wish they had brighter lighting because it was like a cave! The bathrooms were clean but could use a bit more TLC because the soap dispenser kept leaking and the showers sometimes drain slowly lol (these are the only things I have to complain about really) They make free breakfast for you everyday which is a life saver for those on a budget, and they have really fast free wifi!!! Yipeeee!!! Their staff members are available 24hours a day so feel free to ask for any help or just have a chat with them when you're feeling bored lol I like The Baxter! Would def recommend anyone to stay here if they wanna visit Edinburgh!
