Great food with great service. We’ve tried the popular one they recommended, it was ten out of ten. The place is spacious and the atmosphere is nice . Good food is worth of waiting. The curry one is out of my expectation. The texture of chicken were tender and juice. I have had this taste before. I’m not mayonnaise lover. So I ask them if they can give me ketchup. They are nice and considerate, they brought ketchup for me immediately. No wonder they got high score. They deserve it.Highly recommended!

Do order their Turkish sweet Bazar with tea! It has 4 different delightful sweets with very soothing tea served with honey. We ordered the sweet Bazar with tea for dessert and Pilic sis kebab for main course. It was so tasty, scrumptious and enough to fill 2 Indian stomachs. What a lovely ambience! They have warm lighting that helps you relax after a day of walking and touring around the whole of Amsterdam. The restaurant is huge, with every section designed differently. They also have a gallery seating. I'd heard serve great food and alcohol and they prove it correct. Our host was very welcoming and answered all our questions without so much as flinching, so we were very pleased with the service.

Google
Great location right in the "Pijp" area, former Church turned into a colorful spectacle. You can have the daily dish for 8,5 (€) and can expect a fulfilling meal. Not rated 5 stars as the place turned a bit commercial. Great for groups (be sure to make a reservation) and all the meat is halal.

Google
Food was great. Very flavorful and tasty. The main menu doesn't start until after 4 or 430 so we were limited in our options. Staff was nice but not very attentive for as slow as the place was.

Alfons Martin

Google
They say comparisons are bad, but compared to the one in Rotterdam this one does not reach the level. However is still a great place to eat at any time of the day, I went for both dinner and breakfast and was not disappointed. Great quality and fast serving at a fair price. Strongly recommended.

Google
Amazing food. Friendly staff and overall great evening. So far all my guests from all over the world who visited me would have had the opportunity to dine in Bazar and they all loved it.

Google
Cool restaurant in a converted church with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The chicken shish kebab was fresh and tasty. This is a nice place to sit and have a beer after wandering through the Cuyp market.

Yelp
We discovered the Bazar in Amsterdam on our second visit to the city late in 2019. This old church building has been converted into a buzzing place for locals and tourists alike to enjoy a great meal. We got to the restaurant around 9pm just as the place was about to slow down. We got sat immediately and our server promptly asked for drinks while we decided what to order. We got the lentil soup and the Adana kebab platter. Both the soup and entree serving were a lot of food yet very delicious. The service at the bazar is excellent and they take Apple Pay which is now the common way to pay for pretty much everything in Europe. 5 star restaurant in central Amsterdam. Popular place for drinks and middle eastern food if you like it as much as we do.

Yelp
Food was great, however the atmosphere was not. I did not like the table set up or the way they had set up the restaurant. It was freezing inside. It didn't feel clean. Honestly the food saves this review. We had the rice which was good but their stew was amazing! Potatoes I would skip. Their chicken and lamb was also very very delicious and tasty. Nothing was spicey which was great, everything was just very flavorful. If you are in the area and looking for a change in cuisine after spending a few days eating Dutch food then I would check it out. Prices were reasonable as well.

Danny N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Bazar after giving boring Dutch food a try the previous two nights. Bazar is a massive, two story open room with great Moroccan decor. We got there pretty early, but people eventually funneled in. For an appetizer we got a variety of hummus and other spreads which were all good. The main courses were gigantic. I ordered the lamb shank which is always a good decision. It had some great spices and had a mix of carbs to keep the variation up. If you want to stay clear of the crummy tourist options come here like we did.

Alicia H.

Yelp
Had a great time eating here with friends. The location and ambiance of the restaurant was great. It was nicely decorated amd the chandeliers and windows were beautiful. The food was delicious. The service was a bit slow but overall it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend.

Alan L.

Yelp
A good option for large groups. We were a business group of 50 people. We were seated upstairs in an isolated area. The food was tasty and served family style. The staff was attentive. One person in our group couldn't join use because she can't walk up stairs and there isn't an elevator.

Lisa W.

Yelp
It's definitely not Dutch food, it's more of the middle eastern food. The place used to be an old church, so it's humongous! There's an upstairs and the church decorations are still there. Food was good. I got the chicken kabob with rice. The chicken came out hot and flavorful. Eat it while it's hot! It was good. I haven't had flavorful chicken like that at a Middle eastern place in awhile. My friend got the same but with shrimp and cous cous. The shrimp was really good too! We also tried dessert, the cheesecake was good but I can tell they used a lot of cream cheese or maybe it was flavorful because we all know Amsterdam has great cheese!

Kearsten F.

Yelp
We came here as a recommendation from our tour guide and was quiet excited when we first entered. It was open late and had an amazing atmosphere. But the food was quiet substandard. Everything we ordered was either over cooked or under seasoned . It's not a place that we will be going back to for food. However if you want a fun environment to relax and drink with friends this is the place for you.

Jason W.

Yelp
This was on the list of places to review finally. I have been to Bazar a few times now and always had a good experience. Even when the place is packed, which it often is, the service has been decent. One major benefit to Bazar aside from the great ambiance (it is a restaurant inside an old church) is there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Many of my friends and family have these dietary concerns but also go dining with some meant eaters. This is a place where both can be happy. The ambiance is fun, the food decent and the service right on.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Supposedly highly recommended but I don't know if it's because I'm not a huge fan of halal food or if it's because it was just mediocre. There was no wait to get seated but there was a long wait for our food--probably 35 minutes. The appetizer sampler was great, but the entrees were just huge and forgettable leaving you stuffed but regretting. We ordered the 1000hole pancake for dessert (under recommendation from our server) and no one liked it. We also got the baklava and it was among the worst I've had. It did however come with some fun candy floss. Wouldn't recommend but not bad. If you like Persian food, you'd probably like it or at least tolerate it.

Vidya R.

Yelp
This may not show up as one of the top places for Ethiopian in Amsterdam, but I will say it is worth a trip, especially if you're out and about in the city and craving vegetarian food. The atmosphere is lovely, apparently a converted church interior- with lotsa tables, festive decor, and the pretty plates on which they serve giant platters of deliciousness. We ordered a vegetarian plate that serves 4 and we could barely finish. The variety is great, and the portions are more than filling which makes it worth the cost. Definitely go if you're looking for a fun ethnic setting wherein to grab a good meal and exchange stories with friends. Albert Cuypmarket is super close by, as is the Heineken Experience, making it a great pick for tourists visiting Amsterdam.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Really impressed by the absolutely beautiful Location and all the different Impressions when looking around inside the mighty Halls of Bazar I had high expectations regarding the Food. We ordered a mixed plate with meat for the Four of us. What we got is a large bowl filled with Rice, tomatoes and köfte (which was the most delicious food served). On top there were spits with chicken (which was dry and kinda hard to eat), Champignons and onions. This came with a beef hotpot and traditional tabouleh, which was great because of its freshness (lot of spices, little couscous) Staff was very Professional but not that friendly and kind of cutty. In the end I wasn't overwhelmed by the food (which was ok tough) but by the stunning location which is worth to visit Bazar again!

Raoul C.

Yelp
Apparently, this place is the 7th most interesting thing to do in Amsterdam, according to TripAdvisor. Oh Mein Gott, what a terrible website. This place was aight - we came with a big group on a Sunday, seated immediately, and had our orders taken promptly. The decor was cool, but a) the beers sucked (even their Heineken was flat), and b) the food was absolutely mediocre. The waitress told us that they were out of chicken. ORLY Bazar?! It was like, 7 pm! Pros: appetizers were decent, their focaccia-type bread was tasty, and it came with some nice olive/hummus spread. Cons: the mains were pretty lame. We tried the lamb kebab plate, a lamb stew, and the mushroom/falafel plate (all about 15-16 Euro). Yawwwn. Nothing stood out, and for God's sake, the beer was flat. You'd probably get better food at the local Donor Kebab shop near Centraal. Two stars for the decor though, the place was pretty kewl.

Ruben G.

Yelp
Wow - what a find! Let the golden angel on the rooftop serve as your beacon. You've really got to look past the trash in the street (as the daily dismantling of the Albert Cuypmarkt tends to leave quite a lot), and just go inside. There you'll be treated to a multinational assortment of waitstaff working in concert to ensure you have a good time and an excellent meal. I wish I'd taken photos of our food. Not only was it delicious, but think "mass quantities." Even the baklava that I ordered for dessert came in four separate pieces (each enough for one serving) and it was covered in spun sugar... like cotton candy without the food coloring. (Major drool!) Add a hit of Turkish coffee, and... oh man, I wanna go back!

Kim S.

Yelp
I have always heard so many positive comments about Bazar. I live in the area, so it was finally time for me to test out this wonderful restaurant, despite my dietary limitations. I had the pleasure of joining the (Amsterdam Girls) here for a weekday lunch. Bazar is a wonderful Moroccan restaurant located in the heart of the Depijp district. The restaurant is quite unique, it's located in an old church in the midst of bustling traffic, near the open air market. The decor really captures your attention. I was very much impress with this spacious, colorful North-African restaurant. The ambiance demonstrates a rich Moroccan culture intertwined with other cultures and nations. The food is lovely with generous portions of culinary delights. Service is appropriately attentive and the price is very reasonable. I adored the atmosphere and exquisite authentic cuisine on the menu, which was presented with a modern flair of Moroccan, Turkish and Tunesian dishes. It's definitely a restaurant that I would consider going again for lunch. I ordered a cold salad, which included Zaalouk, an eggplant and tomato mixture of green peppers, garlic and spices. This dish is ideal if you have any dietary restrictions. In addition, it's an ideal place for large groups and quite lekker ( delicious) in Dutch terms! Bazar is sure to please a wide range of palates. Please make sure after to wander through the Albertcuyp market, since you will be near by. It's one of the most popular destinations in Amsterdam for locals and tourist.

Payam H.

Yelp
Best middle eastern food in Amsterdam in a gorgeous setting. Great location and friendly staff. Wonderful ambiance and very inexpensive for the quality and quantity of food. Amazing desserts also.

Kim V.

Yelp
One of my favorite Arabic restaurants in Amsterdam. Located at the 'Albert Kuypstraat' so during the day its hidden behind the market stands. This place looks amazing. You should come here for the interior alone. But its even better: Love the food! Also a friendly staff. You never have to wait long and there are plenty of seats. This place is also great for vegetarians, there are many options without meat! The menu is very big and the food comes in generous portions. You can also have breakfast/brunch here, which I really recommend. The breakfast is served on a huge Arabic plate with all kinds of stuff and you can eat from it together. Much fun and very tasty! :)

Henry E.

Yelp
+ really cool unique interior (two levels, very spacious, cool decorations) + good prices - Okayish Turkish food: quality wasn't too great, but fair for the price (lower than most places in Amsterdam)

Graciela P.

Yelp
It's a great festive place with plenty of space, two floors. Many vegetarian options and the prices are good for their portion size. Me and my boyfriend split a bizar bazar (vegetarian dish meant for two people) and we could not finish it. Would definitely recommend it.

Mike W.

Yelp
Huge amount of food and a really good value. The space is huge and used to be a church. Great kabobs.

Manuel K.

Yelp
We were here as a party of 4 persons and were fully satisfied and have had more than enough to eat! If you are a party of 4 or more persons, make a reservation early enough! To see the menu check out the photos, I uploaded all the pages of it in english. You can also get the menu in german and other languages if you ask them. This place is sooooo cool! It used to be a church so the ceilings are really high. There is a ground floor with a bar in the middle. More seats are in the second floor which is built along the walls, as you know second floors from churches. The place is decorated really nice! One wall is tiled from the bottom up to the ceiling with tiles in a mediterranean/arabic style. There are big colored lamps/lantern and a chandelier as well. The whole place is really colorful and the atmosphere is relaxed. Let's head over to the food: it was really delicious! Two of us ordered the bizar bazar with meat and the other ones the el couscous with meat and the mosàmma as a veggie dish. All three menus were yummy! The main dishes are big enough, so don't order that many starters! We had the abdhul's starter for 2 persons and it was enough for us to still have some space left... The service was okay but seemed to be in a hurry sometimes. They forgot about us after we ordered the starters and we had to remind them, that we'd also like to have some main dishes. But the food definitely made that up! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for nice mediterranean/arabic meals in a unusual location!

Nevbahar C.

Yelp
As being a Turkish one, I might be tougher than others. The menu is limited for a very rich cuisine. How does it taste? Ok. I would understand why people would like the atmosphere but not for me. The oriental lightning, use of rugs and carpets... Location is perfect. After spending your afternoon in the pijp, it is an easy walk to the restaurant. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are quite decent. So 3 out of 5. Yet, definitely worth giving it a try!

Gary M.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner as I was not too far away after finishing the Heineken experience on Thursday night. I started with the fried calamari appetizer which was fried crispy but not overcooked served with tartar sauce and then for my entrée I had the lamb shank. Now let's talk about this lamb shank I could say damn near cooked to perfection! Served with a sauce of beans and prunes over basmati rice with a yogurt dipping sauce and a taboulleh salad. Moist and tender fall away from the bone!!!

Peter A.

Yelp
Anyone who likes north African food and into family style eating.. Check it out! Staff is friendly and the food is great! My guess ... You won't be disappointed ..

Shanah C.

Yelp
Stopped in for tea while doing some shopping at the market. Beautiful decor! Did not order food, but had the best tea! And when we asked what kind it as, the waiter was so nice, he gave us some to take with us free of charge.

Katya W.

Yelp
I love this place, it's an amazing building a bit hidden behind the market stalls of the Albert Cuypmarkt with delicious Turkish food at a quite reasonable price point for Amsterdam. Stop I'm for a coffee or lunch while you're shopping at the market or come with a group for dinner, it's definitely worth a visit.

Lissette H.

Yelp
The place is really big and the decoration is nice it really creates a mood!!! The food is ok I had the cus cus and it was good but way too much food, my friend's food looked delicious! I really like that place!!!

Laura W.

Yelp
Stopped in for late lunch around 3 pm, and was not disappointed. The menu has a wide selection to choose from. I am sure this place would be very cool for dinner with a group. The menu is very interesting and every menu item seems good. We went at the recommendation of our tour guide and was not disappointed. I can't remember the item I ate, but it was good.

Roberto P.

Yelp
Beautiful place, nice tables and good service. The food is not worth going. No taste or flavor, the cook had the worst cold ever and completely lost his hand ;-(

Daniël V.

Yelp
For lunch i had a "pita gezond" it tasted great. The atmosphere in this restaurant is awesome. I have the feeling that i'm in the middle east. So if you are looking for a great restaurant for a little or big party go here!

Yura A.

Yelp
Ok this place is worth a visit! You will pay reasonable money for big quantity and good quality. You won't however be amazed with the food. Some things are special, but in general it will be just ok. During busy hours do expect to wait a bit for a table and good might come not too fast.

Andrea P.

Yelp
I have been to Bazar a few times. It's an alright-restaurant... The architecture of the actual restaurant is very interesting: it's an ancient church! only for that it's probably worth having dinner there once. It's quite beautiful!! The downside is that the place can get very loud. Service is extremely fast! The food: lots of choice on the menu, from lunch to dinner through borrel, you can get any size you want, meat dishes, fish dishes, and many vegetarian options as well. So thumbs up for the choice! For the taste... The flavors just didn't seem very strong to me, and for me Arabic food is all about the flavors and spices that should be complex and delicate... It's alright, don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not amazing, that's it. The wine is terrible, don't even try it.

Mette H.

Yelp
The place was quite nice - a funny and over-the-top decor, but nice atmosphere:) the food was alright, you get a lot for the price. I got a starter and a main course and was completely full afterwards (could have rolled out the restaurant!).

Lau V.

Yelp
This is where I go when I want a convivial atmosphere, inexpensive meal, and quick service. It's a great great spot for groups and if you've got a noisy bunch, no problem. My favorites on the menu are the lentil soup and Bazaar breakfast. Both an excellent deal! Can't say I'd recommend this place for a great meal, but if you're looking for a good meal, good service, and lively atmosphere, chances are you'll be very satisfied.

lisa N.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting fabulous food based on other Yelp reviews, and it was open on Sunday, which most other places aren't. On the other hand, the service was really really slow even by European standards, and the food was perhaps the blandest I've ever had. We ordered the set lunch menu that was a mix of many of their other dishes. It came with french fries and mayo, double fried, and those were the best part of the meal, which is sad considering that it is a middle eastern restaurant. It was just very very flavorless. We were hungry but the food was so heavy and dull, we left without finishing. It was edible, but that's all.

Alex V.

Yelp
I had a falafel salad here. The food was ok but bordered on bland. The aesthetics are beautiful though (they don't make up for the mostly flavorless food and shoddy service). It'd be better to try your luck elsewhere.

Samantha S.

Yelp
The motto (in Hebrew!) on one wall translates as something like: "A meal together is the oil of friendship." Bazar is not the best Middle Eastern food you'll ever eat, nor the most "authentic" or refined. But it's loud, brash, colorful, and fun--truly devoted to enjoying time together. The interior is striking, reason enough to wade through the trash at the Albert Cuyp market outside. It's a riot of color and noise. Kids run up and down the stairs (just fine, as no one can hear them) while their parents relax with a beer nearby. There's plenty of room for groups. The high-ceilinged space can get warm and noisy. Even with all that, the ambiance is stylish and comfortable. The food is mostly fine. The basic sigara is big and crisp, with good feta inside. We ordered one of the popular combinations, with lamb, as an entree to share. It was an almost insane amount of food. Dangerous-looking skewers over a massive bowl of rice, plus tabouli salad, pickles, a small pot of lamb stew, and yogurt sauce. Oh, and frites, for some reason. (I would have preferred pita, lavash, or the fluffy Turkish-style bread I saw at other tables.) The vegetables on the skewers were great, but there was only one (!) piece of lamb, and it was almost impossible to chew. It really didn't matter, as the lamb stew was delicious. I hope that skewer was a mistake from the kitchen, and not some restaurant policy. (All the meat is halal, according to the menu.) The service is sweet and efficient. The host downstairs is super-enthusiastic, eager to tell you about the new Bazar offerings in Rotterdam. You know, we had such fun here that I might just check it out on our next trip.

Jason D.

Yelp
Nestled in the background of the lively Albert Cuyp market is this beautifully decorated Mediterranean/Arabian (I'd say it's basically Moroccan) restaurant. The space is HUGE with two floors and two bars. I could see it easily being a great spot for a private party as well. I came here on a rainy Amsterdam Sunday afternoon with a friend. We got the 'large lunch' Nahar which is about 11 euro per person. Warning: It turns out to be a LOT of food for two people. BUT at the same time, you get to sample a wide variety of the menu. The merguez sausages, sarma, and zaalouk are all amazing. It doesn't get a 5 star from me because the service was somewhat lacking. We were never asked for refills of water or were never really checked up after the meal was dropped off at our table. I found this surprising just because the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. I would normally chalk it up to Dutch service, but even by Dutch standards it was more stand-offish than I've become accustomed to. Hopefully your server is slightly more attentive.

Danielli C.

Yelp
Good value restaurant. Service was nice and food delicious and plentiful. We had mixed appetizer and falafel was excellent. Little pastry filled with feta was good too. Olives, smoked almonds, and a phyllo filled roll rounded up the plate. Lamb shank was tasty but it could have used a bit more spices. Beautiful building and decor.

Kai B.

Yelp
Pretty good restaurant, IF you don't have the time for an extensive dinner. The food doesn't deserve the name of 'culinair' but it is absolutely tasteful. Be careful the portions are large! A starter (in combination with a dessert) is way enough. You could make a reservation, otherwise it is possible you have to wait for up to 30 minutes.

Daryn M.

Yelp
Came here on recommendation from young lady at Max Brown museum district hotel. She was spot on! Amazing food! Great prices. Fun atmosphere. We will be back before we leave Amsterdam.

Jose-Luis V.

Yelp
I have been on this restaurant on different occasions and I can say I really enjoyed it. It's a Moroccan-fusion place on an old synagogue (I believe): the food is amazing and the location is really a prime place in Amsterdam. Enjoy the food and the ambiance (it's a big restaurant, so don't expect an intimate place (ideally, try to go with more than three people to order different foods to try them :-)).

Aruna M.

Yelp
I totally agree with Raoul C.! Though the interior is impressive and yes, it feels cool to eat where people used to kneel down and pray, the food has nothing sacred. And I am not saying it was bad, there was just the certain something missing - the passion, the authenticy, the specialty. The shrimps were chewy, the filo dough was swimming in oil and all in all you were given the impression of being in an expensive waiting hall for tourists more than sitting in a restaurant where real people would serve you real food. Nice to walk in and sneak a peek - But definitely not worth the money.

Chloe F.

Yelp
Maybe I don't get out enough. Maybe I go to all the wrong places. Let's just say I was shocked! Had planned to go to Bazar with a group of friends (6 people) on a Wednesday night in October, around 8pm. I thought a) it's wednesday b) it's 'late' for dinner by Dutch standards and therefore didn't make a reservation. The place was packed. We had to wait 20 minutes -- not bad at all -- and I enjoyed being in a bustling restaurant. We were a combination of out of town friends and locals - Dutch and non-dutch - meat eaters and non-meat eaters. We all had a great time. I really enjoy the vibe - it is bright, colorful, fun. The food is good and filling. Like others say, not the most amazing middle easter cuisine you can find, but good portions and really good prices. Service is meh but they try. Overall, a nice treat to break up the grey skies and quite cafes. Good for large and small groups.

Matt and Rita C.

Yelp
Bazar made a pleasant lunch stop on a hot day here in Amsterdam. We give Bazar four stars for the following: 1. Cool ambience, as described by the other reviewers. 2. They have an "allergy chart" for your review that shows which dishes are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, etc. -- very helpful to those of us with dietary restrictions. 3. When we asked for tap water, they cheerfully brought us two large glasses of cold water, and later, two more. They did charge us 1 euro total for the tap water, but that seemed reasonable. We also ordered beer. 4. We had the falafel with harissa and the aubergine salad, but of which were very good. The portions are large. 5. Inexpensive. 6. Nice bathrooms. 7. Cheerful and pleasant wait staff, if not always the most attentive.

Annie M.

Yelp
Do not leave Amsterdam without visiting this restaurant. Beautiful space-large like a club!

Francesca C.

Yelp
A friend came to town and to kill two birds with one stone, we walked through Albert Cuyp and grabbed some lunch in the area. Usually while browsing a market, the best food is always street food. But on this particular day, the cold was too much to bare, and while quickly browsing yelp, I gave my friend a few options of what was around. We both decided a levant lunch was in order. I believe this was an old church, converted to a huge open-style restaurant, whose hustle and bustle is not unlike something you'd see in the middle east. The main wall to the right of the entrance is beautifully tiled with deep shades of blue and light hues of the old world. We were sat upstairs (with a great view!) and the service was GREAT. I was so pleasantly surprise. The menu is big, and if you get overwhelmed, just order the mixed lunch like we did. With samples of a little of this and that, you won't be disappointed! It includes everything from falafel to grape leaves, hummus + bread and tons of other delicious treats. To finish, we had some mighty strong coffee and a newfound bounce in our step. Will definitely be back again.

Michelle A.

Yelp
Great dining experience! This place has a fun and exotic atmosphere. Try the falafel - it is sooo good! Hummus with fluffy bread was also nice. The yogurtlu adana lamb and beef was expertly cooked. Mint tea, Turkish delight, and baklava end your meal on a sweet note. I will happily come back here next time I am in town!

Gina B.

Yelp
It's the first time that I visit Bazar for lunch, I have been a couple of times before for dinner. I find the food at this place very tasty and you get a good to big size portion. The prices are reasonable. The place looks awesome and the service is very friendly and fast even though the place seems to be always full. No reservation was needed like when you go for dinner. I will definitely keep on visiting this place.

Lilli D.

Yelp
I loved my visit to Bazar. i was told this was an old church turned restaurant. Inside is double story with a colourful and vibrant décor. There is a bar right in the centre. There is so many places to sit and candles on each table. The food came out really fast and the meals are huge and really well priced. They tasted so good as well. Not many people gave this place that good of a review but I would definitely go there again and have been telling everyone I know that is going to Amsterdam to stop in.
