The Beach Cottages

10/10 for the beach cottages. You really cannot find anything better than this for the location and price! We stayed in the off season (November) but the weather was absolutely amazing, we were still able to spend our days at the beach and not having AC in the room was no problem at all. We stayed on the third floor and the ocean breeze really kept the entire space cool. We took advantage of the apartment and used their full kitchen daily, there is a Ralph’s grocery within walking distance so stocking up the kitchen was easy. There’s so much around from restaurants, shops and coffee spots that we didn’t need to move our car at all, Belmont park being a 10 minute drive or 30 minute walk was great too! The parking lot is very secure with on site security 24/7, on-site washer and dryers were very convenient since my kids went through a lot of clothing during our stay. There was some slight noise at night from The fire station one street over, and other people not at the hotel just walking the sidewalks and alleyway, we stayed on a Sunday-Wednesday so overall the noise from surrounding bars/ restaurants wasn’t all that bad. I imagine during peak times and weekends that would be different. Bring a white noise machine for your room and that helps and there could be more attention to detail when deep cleaning (fans, headboards, baseboards and a bigger trash can for kitchen would be good!) but overall the rooms were very clean, the kitchen was spotless, the linens were soft and the beds were comfortable! We are already planning our return trip next year. :)

I celebrated my birthday with friends at this great location. It is within walking distance to many great restaurants and bars while having a beach front view on our down time. The staff is always gracious and checking in to make sure our stay was comfortable. I LOVE spending my beach time at this location.

We rented 3 of the wonderful cottages for a 3-day family gathering of 10 people. It was absolutely perfect. The cottages are lovely, clean and well stocked. They are a step away and over the boardwalk to the beach. Perfect in every way. There are table tennis tables, a shuffleboard and fire pit in the common area between the cottages. There are BBQ grills and patio eating areas outside the cottages. The staff are excellent, professional and helpful. We will recommend them to everyone and will go back ourselves.

Our stay at the Beach Cottage was absolutely perfect. The cottage was spotless, cozy, and full of charm—exactly what you hope for in a seaside getaway. We stayed in the second cottage, just steps from the boardwalk, where we enjoyed some fun people-watching and the sound of the ocean all day long. In the evening, we walked out our door and watched the sun sink into the sea. It’s the kind of place that makes you instantly relax and already start planning your return before you’ve even left.

We love the Beach Cottages and keep coming back! It has all the charm of your favorite vacation years ago- with perfect location- really comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen area with dishware, utensils and microwave! The shower was perfect!|Reception is always friendly and efficient.|It is so hard to leave- we enjoyed the relaxation and ocean facing balconies! What a great hotel to stay at Pacific Beach!❤️ 🌊 🐬

Nice clean place with very helpful staff. Excellent access to the beach and some good restaurants. Parking is an extra charge. We did hear some noise outside our room late one night. After calling the desk, it went away.

The Beach Cottages is perfect if you want to be “on the beach”, enjoy a laid-back, homey atmosphere, and don’t mind some tradeoffs. For folks who require absolute silence or modern luxury, this might not check all boxes. But for its price and location, it delivers a lot of value. I’d stay again maybe not on a weekend if sleep is a priority, but absolutely again on a weekday for a relaxing beach getaway.

Even though the cottages are older, it is SUPER clean, family friendly, and right on the beautiful Pacific Beach. The rooms are spacious . There is hotel parking so no worries about finding a spot. You will find everything you need, restaurants, a grocery store , and a CV drug store within a block. Your family and you will feel safe. The hotel personnel from the front desk to the maid service are very friendly and very accommodating. We found this gem last year and have been back another 4 times.

WOW this was the best experience of 66 yrs . The staff were amazing thank you much !!!! This room was immaculate . The Cottage had everything you need in it , full kitchen ( gas stove) dishes , pans glasses etc. 3 queen size beds (1 a sofa bed ) very comfortable and roomy . Full dining area w/ 6 chairs, a couch set w/ tv , beautiful wooden shutters on the window . Quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in a modern tub with a safety bar to get in and out of the tub. Maid came everyday. One block from the hud of the beaches , quaint shops and eateries in town. I will be back at lease once a year

The view from my motel room was amazing. Steps to the beach was wonderful. The parking was beyond convenient and in & out easy. Having a balcony with chairs & tables was unexpected. A small sofa was handy, the bed was comfy.Slight eggy smell in the bathroom sink was the only drawback.

Our family has been staying at the Beach Cottages during Christmas for nearly 30 years!! It has been a tradition we look forward to year after year, and that has a lot to do with our experience at the Beach Cottages! The location is unbeatable! It is right on the boardwalk in PB, just a ways down from the Crystal Pier. It's so close to the beach, you can literally throw a rock from most rooms onto the sand. We have seen many of the same staff working there for decades. Ranging from David and crew at the front desk, to Rafael and Jose in maintenance, to the wonderfully friendly housekeepers! It's always nice to see familiar faces over the years, and have the staff recognize and remember you. In my case, some of these people have "known" me since I was like 10 years old. We've seen this place go through changes and upgrades over the years, from new appliances, to flat-screens from tube TVs. They have both hotel style rooms, as well as cottage style apartments. We've stayed in both, though currently love the views from the 3rd floor. The main 1-bedroom rooms are equipped with a full kitchen, including a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, plates and flatware, in addition to other kitchen tools. There is a separate living/dining area with a couch, soft chair, dining room table and chairs. The couch folds out into a bed which helps sleep more people, or kids. There is a full bathroom with a standup shower and tub. They also have smaller, half rooms. These are attached to the larger rooms and can be used as a 2-room set, or rented individually. The half rooms still have a small fridge and microwave, but no stove/oven or large kitchen sink. As for activities, they have multiple ping pong tables, as well as shuffleboard. They have the equipment out for use during normal operating hours. They've had wooden ping pong tables forever (which would warp over the years due to ocean moisture), though we noticed this year they had replaced the main one with a hard plastic material! They also have BBQ areas, fire pits, and laundry facilities that you can use. There are tons of brochures for local entertainment and things to do, as well as post cards for sale in the lobby. The front office staff are all super friendly, so I'm sure they'd be willing to share recommendations! We love and look forward to our time at the Beach Cottages each year. We just got back from our annual trip a few days ago, and are already looking forward to going back! Thanks again for all the great service and good memories!

The Beach Cottages is a great, family friendly stay right on the beach and is reasonably priced. Keep in mind it's a dated hotel, so if you're looking for swanky, this isn't it, but it's clean and managed well, so don't let a dated look hold you back Pros: Quiet time starts at 10pm, they really try to cater to the family environment Staff is SUPER friendly and helpful - everyone from the front office to the maids, all great Did I mention it's right on the beach?! Cons: I can't even say it's their fault but the area is a bit of a college party area, and sleeping right above the restaurant downstairs was not fun. Again, nothing in their control The water had a bit of an egg smell to it when turning it to hot. Doesn't last long, but it was strong The bathroom countertop is TINY. Not really an ideal space for setting up toiletries and daily essentials With all that said, I would stay here again but would prefer to be in a room that isn't by the restaurant/bar.

What a great location and view. Very friendly. A bit dated but worth the stay! A great way to experience the beach.

This is our families favorite place to be in Pacific Beach...we love it here!!! We can't wait to come back again and for our family "The Beach Cottages" brings us peace and relaxation...we tell everyone about this "Little piece of Heaven"...

Excellent location and a competitive price! As a solo traveler, I felt safe and comfortable walking to local businesses. The hotel is quite dated yet my room and the surrounding grounds are clean and well maintained. The basic room in which I stayed had a coffee pot, microwave, small fridge as well as plates, mugs and silverware. It was perfect for a few nights. The beach is literally steps away. Definitely recommend!!!

Great place. We had a cottage right next to the ocean. Not the main building. Ask for beach front, it's not much more expensive.

I've stayed here twice and each time the staff were fantastic. Love the ability to communicate via text, the responsiveness and overall hospitality. The location is great. Beachfront access and close to a lot of restaurants. The rooms are dated but functional, and the beds are comfy. Love the ability to sit outside on the patio and relax for the day. Will definitely stay here again.

Location is perfect and homey vibe is wonderful! Very responsive to our minor requests. Javier and the lovely woman that prepared our room. Love that FAMILIES are here happily. It is ON THE BEACH and close to food and shops.

The Beach Cottages has been my HAPPY PLACE for many years. It's perfectly located steps away from the beach and surrounded by the best restaurants, coffee shops, bars and shops. The staff makes you feel like family. I want to give a special shout out to Sofi, our housekeeper, who goes above and beyond every time we visit. She makes us feel like we are her only guests. Here is a photo of the view from room 300. I miss it already!

Great hotel right on the beach. We stayed in the West building with a private balcony. Great views and great service. As others have said the rooms are not the most modern, but they fit with the beach vibe. Definitely looking forward to staying there again.

We love this place! Location is PERFECT, you can hear the ocean from your room, it's quiet and staff is friendly. You also have ocean side access and are close to many different restaurants, coffee shops and bars! Bed is comfortable and room comes with a fan. It can get a little warm without AC but you can get a nice breeze!

Always a great stay at The Beach Cottages! Location and wonderful staff make this gem shine. We have been coming for more than 25 years and look forward to each visit.

I was in town to visit friends, who recommended the Beach Cottages, and i loved it! I stayed in one of the apartments above the lobby. It was VERY spacious, CLEAN and came with a wonderful ocean view on the terrace. You cant beat the location, its walking distance to all the bars and restaurants. The staff was very wonderful. Just all around nice and handsome guys. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Yes, this place has dated rooms and fixtures. But location is everything and this one wins. Price reasonable, fans in the room (for that white noise we all need) and staff was exceptionally friendly. If you are a hotel snob, this is not your place. If you need a clean place to sleep while you play at the beach, this is a win. We will be back.

Great accomodations, staff & location. Restaurants & bars everywhere. Sandy beach right out the door of the complex. Suffleboard & ping pong to keep your competitive spirit busy when not at the beach. Barbeques, tables & chairs for everyone. 5 minutes to Crystal Pier. Who could ask for anything more.

The room has no air conditioning and it is very noisy. The shower does not work well and the small fridge has no freezer. I will not stay there in the future.

Such a great place to stay!! Found this hotel through yelp and booked through Expedia, and my friends and I were very happy with our visit. It's right on the beach and within walking distance of several restaurants, bars, shops, and grocery stores. Parking is free for guests and the lot is right across the street from the hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the check in/checkout process was very easy. We'll definitely be back!

We love staying at the Beach Cottages. It is the only place we stay at when we go to San Diego. The staff is wonderful and caring. Sofia, our room attendant, is a superb lady.

I love spending time at the beach cottages. We have been going there for almost thirty years (off and on) and have never had a bad experience. The view from the third floor of the main building is incredible! No matter how stressed I was before getting there, I have totally decompressed by the time I leave.

We love The Beach Cottages! It is truly a right-on-the-beach location, just steps to the sand. Not a fancy-schmancy place, but clean and cozy, well equipped with kitchen necessities, walking distance to all of our favorite places to eat, close to Ralph's, etc. Such a perfect beach location. We've been staying there for probably 40 years and still enjoy it. The staff is all nice, welcoming, and helpful as well. Highly recommend The Beach Cottages!

Staying at the Beach Cottages is like taking a trip back in time. They are comfortable, warm, charming, and a sanctuary for the mind and body. The family and I stayed at the cottages this past weekend. I didn't do much research prior to our arrival so I wasn't familiar with the location. We had been to San Diego several times, but have stayed downtown or at one of the resorts on Mission Bay. The Beach Cottages are made up of a series of structures. The main multistory motel and beachfront cottages, and then another small multistory motel across the street next to the main part of the complex. There is also a parking lot just for cottage guests and parking is $10 a day. We were assigned cottage number 502. Online it is known as a second row cottage so it is far enough away from the noise of the beachgoers, but close enough to hear the ocean. Cottage 502 is comfortably appointed with a sofa bed, tv, dining room table, a very comfortable queen size bed, and a kitchen with a full size fridge and a stove and oven. Outside there is a table and chairs with an umbrella for each cottage. The living room of 502 has two very large windows that look out to the beach. Each cottage seems to be adjusted in such a way that you have an unobstructed view. The area surrounding the Beach Cottages is VERY ACTIVE. Especially in the late afternoon and into the evening. The bars and restaurants were packed! Pandemic? What pandemic" There are homeless people in the area so just be aware. You have access to the beach from the cottages by way of gates that can only be opened with a the key fob attached to your cottage door key. Just look both ways when you walk out on to the boardwalk. There are tons of bikes, skateboarders, joggers, etc. Masks are required in the common areas of the property. Check-in is virtually contactless. The other guests were very friendly and the few staff members we encountered were friendly as well. You get the feeling that everyone goes to the Beach Cottages for the same reason....to relax.

As much as I'd love to leave a review that would keep everyone away from our secret gem, I just can't. We love it here. The rooms are quaint and dated, but clean and adequate. Walk right out to the beach and you don't really need to leave!! The only cons are that if you are staying in the rooms near the bar and street they can get noisy with drunks and music. See you next year!!

This place is great! The rooms are very clean and have a nice charm to them that makes them feel much less like hotel rooms. All of the staff are very helpful and friendly. They offer shuffleboard and ping pong which is great when you need a low key afternoon after hanging out at the beach. There are lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and a grocery store all within walking distance 10/10 will be back and will never stay in a different hotel while in San Diego

Can't say enough about the staff, I have been visiting The beach cottages since I was 5 and now continuing the experience with my children. Great location to all the top restaurants and locations and of course to the beach!

Location, location, location. You can't beat this place for the views (be sure to choose a room that has one) and customer service. We travel extensively, and never experienced the constant communication we received before, during, and after our stay. We will definitely return. PS. If you're interested in the party scene, definitely book the weekends. Starting Monday, the immediate area morphs into a total family environment.

Our third time staying here and each time it gets better. What's not to like about being right on the beach. Prime location. Very close to bars and restaurants. The staff is amazing and will always help in any way they can. Our cottage was clean and had everything we needed to make our own meals. Looking forward to another visit. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

A couple of girlfriends and I spent girls weekend away at The Beach Cottages. The location is AMAZING! It's in a pretty central location, steps from the beach (the best part), quiet, and decently clean... however I wouldn't trust using the kitchenware as it's not cleaned by the hotel staff as it's expected to be cleaned by the hotel guest. However, there was no dish sponge to clean them. The decor needs to be updated and bathrooms need an update, but the beds were very comfortable. It's a little pricy for the above reasons but the location can't be beat!

We stayed there 5 nights from Tuesday to Sunday The first night was perfect. Nice and quiet. After that it all went downhill. We were in room 344 facing Mission Boulevard. The noise coming from the bars made it impossible to sleep. The bars are open till 2am and the room was vibrating with sound till then. I turned up the TV and used background noise from YouTube to drown out the sound. As mentioned previously location is perfect for this hotel. If you book just make sure you're not facing Mission Boulevard unless you can sleep through unbearable noise. The staff is extremely courteous. It's a shame that the hotel has rooms making sleeping impossible.

The wife and I did a 10-day 'backpack' vacation (LA, Oceanside, Gaslamp District of San Diego, Tijuana, and finished in Pacific Beach at the 'The Beach Cottages'. We rented a cottage (511) and were very happy. The Beach Cottages common area opens onto the beach walk, the cottage was very clean, spacious with a kitchen, and we felt very safe. Could only hear the waves at night, but yes there's a bar nearby. The staff were very friendly. The location is excellent with restaurants, shops, and a grocery store within a few minutes walk. San Diego Metro is excellent with a nearby bus stop that stops at Old Town where a free shuttle took us to the airport. The Beach Cottages were built a few years ago, so there's a retro-vibe that we loved. We felt the value was very good.

VERY satisfied with our stay at The Beach Cottages. My girlfriend and I were celebrating her birthday and the front desk, housekeepers and location were absolutely amazing. We will be coming back!

We spent 3 wonderful nights at this beautiful resort. We rented a cottage on the boardwalk and spent our days on the patio people watching. The staff is professional, cooperative, and helpful. We will certainly be returning for more visits.

Very friendly welcome. We drove three days from texas and were pleasantly surprised at our comfy and large "cottage". Gentle reminder, we are on the third floor with no elevator. Could be an issue for some! However our view of the ocean is spectacular. Two comfy beds and a sofa bed. Fully equipped kitchen and dining table. Very nice.

We always enjoy staying at The Beach Cottages. Their hospitality is exceptional, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect.

We have come here several years in a row and just left today. The location is perfect. You never have to get into your car to go anywhere. Anything you would want to do is worth in walking distance. So relaxing. We will be back. One thing. My husband is 6"5 so the queen size beds are a small challenge but we just are sure to cuddle :) clean place and friendly staff!

This was our first time staying here and it was great! Right on the beach promenade in Pacific Beach. Next to many restaurants, bars, and grocery store. We did not drive our car the whole week we were there. On site parking which if you know the area is a giant plus. The staff was super friendly. I love the communication by text. It made everything so convenient. We will definitely be staying here again.

Everything about our stay was marvelous! The level of friendly & helpful service was outstanding!

My wife and I just stayed here for five days. It was magical! We stayed on the top floor in a queen basically hotel room. The bed was very comfortable. The room was a bit dated but fine. The property and room were clean. The housekeeping was a daily towel and trash service which was nice. I did laundry twice and machines were super clean and worked well. Our room had a small balcony with an amazing ocean view. Outside our room window was a bit noisy at night as we were next to a bar and restaurant and beach but it was to be expected if you know PB. Parking was $15 per day.

We stayed at the beach cottages for a little birthday get away. The place is super organized, accommodations were comfy, and the beach was literally steps away. It was perfect for a night away from home in San Diego for a beach-outing with great restaurants within walking distance. I so appreciated their secured parking also.

This place was great for our group of 15 friends for a lively atmosphere near the beach. We stayed at the north building studios which is across the street from waterbar. Downstairs parking was easy and the stairs were no issue for us. We stayed on the third floor and had views of the ocean. It was awesome waking up to hear the sounds of waves every morning. Nightlife is some of the best down here, and runs late. It does get a little noisy down here, but well worth the entertainment the area has to offer. 7-11, Ralph's, bars & the beach are less than 2 minute walks; other popular bars and restaurants are within 10 minute walks. The beach area was nice too always bustling, lots of fun in this area. The rooms were more than expected! They were awesome! They included a decent queen sleeper sofa, armchair, table and 6 chairs, 3 barstools, TV, 2 queen beds, full kitchen (fridge/freezer/stove/dishwasher/minimal cooking tools/cups/utensils). The beds were comfy enough and the pillows were pretty great. They *do* have air conditioning too, that was a perk. Water pressure was decent and the tap water was actually good to drink. House keeping was very cordial and pleasant to deal with, security was present on premise and would let us know if we were breaking any rules. We had an initial problem with someone in our party damaging the hotel, but the hotel was very understanding and we paid for the damage. The front desk check-in was easy and the staff was pleasant to deal with. We had no other problems during our stay. Overall If you're looking for studio rooms that are pretty much next to the beach in a lively atmosphere, the Beach Cottages studio rooms are the perfect place to stay, highly recommended.
