The Bear Golf Course

Great golf course but TOUGH. Clubhouse is nice, plenty options in there. Definitely would suggest playing. But let me warn you the bear is tough. A lot of carry water. Tricky landings. Just an FYI it’s going to be tough but nice.

Great place to play. Shots you would only have a few times in your life. Very difficult but extremely fair. Don’t expect to take the claws out of the Bear.

We had a great time! It is a beautiful course! All employees were super helpful. The drink/snack lady was super friendly and came around often. There are a lot more port-a-potty than a lot of courses we have been to. (Thankfully!)

The Bear: not yet played. The Wolverine: great course, especially for the high handicapper. Wide open fairways and very hilly on and off the green. Fun for all. Played the course several times including once for a bachelor party. Spruce Run: excellent golf course. I love the spruce lined fairways, plenty of water and sand hazards, and the toughness of the greens. This is a somewhat short, but challenging course.

Just had the worst experience at the the Bear golf course. Incompetent staff and horrible policies. We got rained out and refused a refund. We were told the course was playable even with 1 inch of water on the greens. Save your money and find another course with a more pleasant staff

For the price, the value is not there. It’s a very challenging course with great views, but for the $190 price tag there is a lot missing. Range balls cost extra, some of the areas of the course were a bit beat up, and the halfway house was closed (around noon on a Sunday in early August with plenty of people on the course). Manitou Passage and Bahle Farms are about 40 minutes west, for less money you can play a course just as nice and challenging with a much higher class experience. The staff at Manitou are much more welcoming and accommodating.

Be prepared for a 7 hour round, absolute slowest course I’ve ever played, no respect for the game. Gave up after 12 holes when it had already been 4.5 hours. Beautiful course but can’t get over the poor management and slow play unfortunately.

The course itself was very pretty, but we were very disappointed by the extremely slow pace of play and the other groups on the course. We drove over 2 hours for the day to play The Bear and it took us 6 hours to get through 18 holes. We played behind an extremely rowdy bachelor party who was blaring vulgar music and yelling their whole round. One of them even relieved himself on the course. We were expecting better from a course that is so well known and were hoping the others around us would be respectful of other players. Not worth $125 each for the round considering we could have gotten the same experience at a 1 star rated course down the road from our house.
