The Bear of Rodborough

We were a party of 5 couples that went to the hotel for 3 nights to the New Years Eve gala dinner celebraton.|From the moment we arrived we were blown away. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly. Room old fashioned but fully equipped and comfortable. I am not going to write a long review but I can tell you a few highlights:|Food,,,,,fabulous. All of us agreed that we had some of the best food we have had in a long time. Up to standard of any 3 star restaurant that we have been to. Congratulations to the Chef and staff.|Service,,,, Excellent. Every single member of staff were friendly,efficient,professional. Couldnt fault them. Made ius feel special.|Entertainment,,,, The race night on the 30th was fun and really well organized. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The New Years Eve party was terrific. Gala dinner , stunning food, great drinks and the singer while dining really lovely and then DJ session were great, dancing until early hours of Jan 1st.|Overall a brilliant experience for all 10 of our party. We had great stay and look forward to returning.

Lovely country house hotel that is perfect for a romantic getaway or a bolthole when visiting Stroud. Our room was really clean with all the bits we needed, including a Nespresso machine. Really liked the shortbread that was on the table as well. The bar downstairs was great with loads of different spaces so it was easy to find a quiet space to chat over a pint. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with some great views. All in all it was a lovely place to stay. Very easy to get a taxi to and from the Stroud Wine Company tasting.

We stayed from December 24th to 29th, 2025. The staff were kind and the dining experience was excellent. However, the room cleanliness and maintenance were far below expectations for a hotel of this level.||Dust on the ceiling beams, no vacuuming during the last three days, and a poorly maintained kettle (as shown in the photo) indicate serious cleaning issues. The windows are also very old and do not close properly, making the room extremely cold.||Great hospitality and food, but cleanliness and upkeep must be improved urgently to match the hotel’s standards.

Booked the New Year Eve package at the Bear. Arrived in the 30 th December to three course lunch which was delicious. That evening there was a race night and buffet supper - again lovely food and good choice. ||Excellent breakfasts each morning. On New Year Eve there was a Champagne and canapés reception then a five course dinner. None of the meals did we have to choose in advance. I had venison on NYE and it was excellent. We danced in the NewYear including a conga with guests and staff. We stayed an extra night and had the fish and chips which again was some of the best I have ever had. Warm, comfortable and clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. In a lovely location on Rodborough common with lots a walks locally. I would definitely visit again.

We had a short notice family Sunday Lunch at The Bear. The atmosphere was relaxed. The staff attentive. The food beautifully served. The beef was sooo tender. The desserts were much improved over previous visits - imaginative and very tasty - lots of flavours. Well done and thank you to The Bear !

The room was lovely, very clean and we loved the nespresso machine and shortbread biscuits! Only problems were the stairs and the shower being over the bath.|The staff were really helpful throughout our stay.|Dinner was great both nights, but I feel that the breakfast offer is a bit mean. At the very least, tea, coffee and toast should be included, and the egg should be an integral part of shakshuka!|We love The Bear and will doubtless be back. I would just like it to keep up its well deserved reputation.

The room was nice. Bar area was very comfortable, best burger I've had in a hotel by a long way, the Guiness was great too incredibly smooth. Breakfast won't disappoint either great coffee and incredible pastries.

The staff were very kind and the food was excellent. Unfortunately, the room maintenance was disappointing. The windows also do not close well, making the room very cold at night. Great hospitality, but cleanliness needs urgent improvement.

Best English B&B I've stayed at as the stars reflect this category. Even though this is a more of a hotel than B&b It's country charm in the hill of Cotswold is charming next to a famous ice cream factory "winstone", cows, etc. Service is superb and brought me loaner USB charger. Breakfast is superb with smoked salmon, homemade granola, honeycomb for bears like me. Asked for seconds like a hobbit and they obliged! Winstone ice cream with cows and all down the street reminds me of Vermont. Homemade ice cream shop! Warning on the menu that dinner game may contain lead gave me a believable chuckle. Internet is rubbish here, but one comes to English country for fun and not write yelp reviews right?

I stayed at the Bear on business in Feb 2012. It is a charming old hotel with an excellent restaurant. The mattress was comfortable, the room was well appointed, and the breakfast excellent. I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in the area.
