Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The BEAST Went looking for a proper burger joint that lets you customise around gluten-free and dairy-free preferences without losing that classic burger hit — and BEAST really shines here. Very Brunswick in the best way. Outdoor tables out front, relaxed seating inside, Mario Kart, board games, Jenga, punky art — it’s not a kids venue, but it’s definitely kid-friendly, and perfect for adults who are big kids at heart. Fun, not gimmicky. Food was the hero. I ordered the double smash burger on a stick, kept it meaty but swapped in vegan cheese (no dairy for me) and dipped it into vegan gravy — indulgent, perfectly cooked, and seriously memorable. That mix-and-match flexibility is a real strength here: gluten-free buns, vegan cheese, vegan gravy, but still very much a traditional, tasty burger experience if that’s what you want. My daughter went with tater tots (simple and done right), and the vegan burger options looked genuinely solid, not an afterthought. Worth noting: this is still a proper burger joint with shared fryers and a strong focus on fried chicken, chilli, and spice if you’re into heat. The menu is clear, so you can make informed choices depending on your sensitivities. Bonus points for personality — they even run a burger-eating challenge, with some wild times on the wall (current leader, I think a named Morin, clocking an insane 43 seconds). Friendly service, reasonable prices, food came out quickly, and the wait flew by because we were actually enjoying ourselves. If you’re into: • excellent burgers • flexible dietary options done properly • a relaxed, playful Brunswick vibe Live music and plenty of events throughout the year. Was open on New Year’s Day so they have great trading hours as well. BEAST is well worth a visit. We’ll be back.

Absolutely amazing place! The vegan wings are to die for. And the vegan gravy... Nothing short of incredible - we dream about that gravy. The vegan burgers are also amazing. If we could go every day we would. If you get the chance to go to The Beast, 100% go for it!

Google
We ate in for lunch and it was delicious!! The smash burgers were full of flavour and the popcorn chicken was so yummy. Had gluten and dairy free options. Also had some activities for my daughter too. Would visit again!

Google
The vegan burger was perfect—a true test of a good burger place! We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely come again.

Google
Took the kids again so we have 4 opinion and spot on for this place. Daughter rated overall 8.5/10 she’s picky :) The Boys 9/10 Moi : 9/10 Burger variety is awesome. Taste is juicy and full of flavor. Portions are big. Price is very affordable. Just a not to have a bit tiny more lights before the band starts Overall come and see it’s one of the best burger shops we tried so far in Melbourne and we are a picky family :) Try the Chief Thank you guys

Google
we ordered the ron swanson, the chief and the mac n’ cheese bombs/balls. the mac n’ cheese balls were definitely the highlight, being that they were so generously filled and cheesy !! they really had a certain nostalgia about them. the atmosphere was also perfect, with the cosy, decorated walls. it wasn’t boisterous considering it was busy, and they had a large selection of games to choose from (uno, operation, jenga, and more). as for the burgers, i had the chief and the brisket filling itself was really lovely. i did feel as though the flavour lacked and could have been amped up with a barbecue sauce and sharper cheese maybe - they were also a but skimpy on the pickles, which in my opinion is the best part of a burger!! the ron swanson was delicious though, certainly loaded with all the right toppings and that sweet, maple-y bacon. will definitely come back 😗

Google
Overall burger was decent. It reminded me of a fish and chip shop burger, which I like. The jazz band was awesome, just way too loud so you couldn’t chat with your mates. Two stars for service however. When my mate asked to try one of the draft beers to see what it tasted like, the bartender replied “it tastes like beer” which a shitty grin. That turned us off and he didn’t order any beers. Yeah, we know what beer tastes like, but all beers are very different and I don’t see the point of wasting money on a beer I won’t end up drinking. Getting a taste of a draft is standard practice at a pub. I’ve never been denied before. The waitress also brought out my other mates wrong drink order, so ultimately he ended up paying more for a cider but got a beer instead. Customer service could be better!

Yelp
This place was awesome, and in fact, it was one of those places that I stumbled across as I was wandering around looking for a place to grab a bite to eat. I'm not entirely sure whether it was a proper pub or bar, or simply just a burger joint, but the atmosphere certainly suggested that it is a bar. The service was pretty good, and the burgers, yeah, the burgers were great. Oh, and considering its location, the selection of beers was not surprising, and quite good at that as well. A definite place to check out.

Yelp
Ahh, the B-East! You are what makes this pocket of Lygon Street so very awesome. With your delectable variety of tap beer and big bucket of weird and whacky tinnies, you've always looked after me on a warm, Sunday afternoon. On my most recent visit, The B.East were hosting a very awesome New Orleans themed party, which is wah-aaaaaay up my alley. (FYI they are doing this on the first Sunday of every month). They were serving up Hurricanes and Mimosas and I was in HEAVEN (while knee-deep in a Hurricane). Their burgers are pretty sweet too but I would recommend the sliders more. They just seem to... taste better. Like finding a good parking spot, if you happen to score a seat out the front, you should never leave because it will never happen again. Sit there and bask in the glory that is the Brunswick East hipster. P.S. It is called The B-East because it's in Brunswick East.

Yelp
I love this place. They have the best burgers in Brunswick E and they have fantastic meat-free burgers for when we go plant based every now and then. Super cool staff, reasonable prices and a great house beer. 10/10 we come here almost every Sunday.

Yelp
One of my favourite bars to kick back at in Melbourne. I highly recommend ALL burgers. They are amazing and the poutine is also goes down quite a treat with a large vanila milkshake. And if you have the biscuits for it i dare you to attempt the BEAST challenge. I only managed 1.55 seconds which is 25 seconda shy of the t-shirt and $$$. Any night of the week there is something going on from live music, comedy to trivia. If your a brunswick local or someone passing by looking for a great afternoon/evening i highly recommend giving the beast youre time.

Yelp
This is simply the best burger I've encountered in Melbourne in a cool setting. From the healthy burger, the cheap and nasty McDonalds, the poshed up McD burger at Huxtaburger to the bogan burger at The Napier - none which are to my liking. For me a burger should be a treat, an unhealthy treat that doesn't skimp on cheese or bacon but still have a good meat in the burger. B.east hits the mark on all accounts. I've been here many times and never been disappointed go for the "filthy" every time. Oh and the cheesy chips are to die for. All washed down with a craft beer!

Yelp
The first time here I arrived here on a Thursday evening, at around 8pm or so, it was busier than free $100 day at the local centrelink. It was also BYO vinyl Melbourne record club night. First impressions were dismay and frustration- it's hard to enjoy a venue when it's at crush capacity. Things weren't looking good. But as the night wore on, the crowd thinned out, I started to notice more around around me. It's definitely a great watering hole/Smaller bar venue to hang out. It's pretty nice inside, the bar staff are quite gregarious (provided it's not excessively busy) and the drinks are pretty good. I didn't like the gravy on the poutine though, Bacon bone gravy was a little sickly for my liking. However all the other components or "elements" as it's sometimes known, were bang on. All in all, the B.east is a pretty good place when it's at about half capacity, and the crowd is chilled. Probably the best then to go then on a regular day, on regular time, when there are no special deals going on. Whilst these are fantastic, everyone loves saving money right? It does attract hordes of clientele, which then in turn means no free spaces to sit, and more commonly, people always in the way of wherever you need to go.

Yelp
I've got to say.. I'm not really sure how to go about this review. I love burgers - I mean we're talking serious/pure/unconditional love.... I'd heard so much about B-east - it's been listed in both The Age and The Herald Sun in their best burger joints article so that says something... It'd been a long time coming and I'd been waiting for so long to try one of their burgers. I'm not sure if the build up had something to do with it all - you know when you get so excited about something and, when you actually get to experience it, somehow it just seems... ordinary? Anyway, we went in and ordered - Filthy Beast for me and Classic for her. We didn't have to wait too long which was good.. Now, about our burgers: - She had one onion ring in hers and I had 2... As far as I'm aware, we're not experiencing a shortage of onions at the moment so that was a bit of a disappointment.. - The bun was, as it should be, quite big - one which I had to hold with both hands (she had to cut hers in half).... That's a plus in my books.. - The patty was a bit of a disappointment... Meat-to-bun ratio - Massive let down.. - Overall flavour was quite nice however I found the veggies lacked freshness. There you have it... I'm somehow hoping that we were unlucky on the night so I haven't given up... We will meet again B-east...

Yelp
Swar-vay! This place is funky. Great spot for a bite to eat/craft beer, not that a craft beer is hard to find in Brunswick, but this place hits the vibe of Brunswick (East) perfectly. Upon ordering, couldn't help but notice their table number cards - they have all of the cool things on the cards, movies, comics - and I may have gotten slightly too excited about this. Oh well! Burgers are not the 'best' but with all the other great things going on, who noticed?

Yelp
Great burgers, with a couple of truly delicious veggie options, and even a vegan one. Menu trends towards neo-Americana, so expect delicious fries, jalapeño poppers, fried chicken, and, of course, huge burgers. Atmosphere is great, nice casual vibe. A number of their specialty cocktails are truly delicious, and true to form are named after musicians (a friend regularly orders the Amy Winehouse...) Trivia here on a Tuesday is a good get, too, but you'll need to book to guarantee a table. Beer selection is evolving, with a couple of nice options on tap, as well as a full bar. Skip the wine. Hot tip (literally): hot sauces are stored in a communal fridge for added deliciousness. Also, get the dark beer hot sauce with your chips. Your mouth will thank you.

Yelp
This place is a breath of fresh air on Lygon Street. It manages to be somewhere you'd be happy to spend a while eating and drinking, without being pretentious and up itself. The food is good value, with quality burgers ranging between $10 and about $18, and the decor has been carefully constructed to give the sense of a bar/diner hybrid. Lots of little touches tell you the owners care about the experience of their customers. I'll definitely return.

Yelp
My partner and I just happen to look for a place to eat as a couple of shops we wanted to go too were closed. We find the b-east on Lygon st and it seemed nice the decor looked great and was looking like a independent restaurant with a great vibe. The menu was simple to read and was able to choose quite easily , and the cocktail names were pretty cool. I ordered a couple of drinks , one of them a cocktail call frank Zappa which was describe as a pina colada, this drink was tasty , cool, vibrant had that sour and sweetness to it. I also ordered a cider dirty granny which I wasn't a fan off. The meals we ordered the clint beast wood (chicken) and a dry rub pull pork burger with some Death Star fries ( the name won us both ) The meal was pretty average it tasted ok the burgers were ok some flavour but not really enough to make me go wow considering each burger cost $14 The chicken burger had some good flavour but the pull pork was dry, bland and wasn't very tasty unfortunately which was disappointing. The fries were good but again average flavour , felt like every sauce that was on there is store brought. I had a good experience with staff members and the vibe was great , the food was the let down and considering the price you pay for two people ($63 we paid including drinks ) you expect a better quality on the food. All in all an average place that I wouldn't recommend for the best burgers.

Yelp
When I heard someone say that this place was better than Huxtaburger I just had to come down and see for myself. B.east has a good vibe to it, nice and casual, plenty of seating in the place too. I split an original burger and a pulled pork burger with a friend and some fries. The pulled pork burger was first class, there was some crunch from pork crackling, juicy pulled pork and I think there was apple sauce in there too. The bun used was pretty good too, brioche I think. Defiantly one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The original burger on the other hand was just ok. I think the thing that let it down was the meat patty, it just didn't seem like anything special. The meat was average quality and there were some herbs mixed into it, something I don't expect in a good hamburger, the meat should be good enough to talk for itself. The fries were pretty damn good, nice and crunchy. In the battle of beef burgers for me Huxtaburger wins, but up against the B.east Pulled Pork I have a tough time picking a winner. Overall B.east is worth getting to, there were plenty of other burgers on the menu too.

Yelp
What a find! Rumbling through many of the burger blogs I have bookmarked on my internet browser, came across this well named (great starting point!) venue, and upon sighting of the Wednesday $10 wings deal (6 large southern fried wings), I made my way there with a fellow burger lover. Like many of the new burger joints around, there is a large diner feel, selling many 'American' staples such was burgers, subs, chilli cheese fries, shakes...you know the deal. I ordered the 'Sexy' Beast (which is the double beef and bacon variety), and whilst I wasn't too sexy after eating it (it was messy), it was damn tasty. Following that was the wings. Geez they were good! And sticky! And even more messy. That was washed down with a lovely pint of Mt Macedon Holgate Pale Ale. So too all the lads (and to those sophisticated ladies out there), as you could imagine, its not first date material! But its definitely great for a night out with the boys. Just as a small warning, it isn't the cheapest place around ($37 for all mentioned above), but don't let that stop you from furthering your burger education, as B.East will definitely do that!

Minh L.

Yelp
I was annoyed that the staff did not mAke me aware that there was a surcharge and hoped I had missed it to request for a eftpos docket to verify that I had been charged. I would have been okay paying it, but that seems dodgy. Anyway the food was okay, no problems there.

Yelp
Perfect for a date or a catchup with mates - I love the b-east and it's easy for anyone that knows me to see why. Great music, great people watching (so many Brunswick types) and excellent food. Known for their burgers they also have a few good sides like ultra crunchy chips and so on. You could hear anything from Bowie to Punk versions of madonna or some local underground bands you have never heard the name of before on the stereo. They have a good selection of craft beers and a nicely stocked bar. Indoor and outdoor seating is available though my personal favorite is the window seats that put you in the perfect people watching position.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Definitely a contender for best burgers in Melbourne. Perfect buns, delicious fillings with the right balance of salad and meat. Real American style sides such as ribs, chipotle fries and a wide variety of drinks. One star taken away because the music is two notches too loud and too emo. We go there to hang out with our friends, chat and have fun and the music is intrusively loud. The food and furnishing of this place is what keeps us coming back for more. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Leanne K.

Yelp
The burgers and fries here are amazing! I'm from America and I lived in Victoria for 2 years and this was the closest to an American style burger you can get! The ambience was great, servers were friendly, but not overly attentive. We dined with our two kids and there wasn't a kid menu, but that was no problem for us. I was able to find a burger for them to share. Overall, it was fantastic and I would recommend it to my friends and family. One piece of advice...parking on or around Lygon St. can be a nightmare. Come early to find a parking spot or ride the tram.
google avatar

Christos K.

Yelp
Delicious burgers made of sumptuous fillings and soft tasty buns. Fries were crispy and tasty! Great options for meals with a groovy easy listening environment. Give it a go!
google avatar

Yelp
Great beers, great food and a nice chilled atmosphere! what is not to like! Grab a table outside in the sun, gets some beers and enjoy!

Yelp
Really yummy burgers and good service. The place has a good vibe. It had a gaming console for the kids so they were happy too. It was bring along your vinyl LP night so the music was varied and fun.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
The decor and vibe of the place is very punk rock. I had a burger and fries and it was delicious. Prices a little on the higher end but I will definitely go back. If it was slightly more affordable I would rate 5 stars. Quick and friendly service.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Burgers aren't great, but they're not terrible either. Had the B.East, thought it was a big burger the price ($18) reinforced my expectation, but unfortunately was misled, a clear deterrent of ever coming back

Cassie M.

Yelp
Love this place. Definitely the best burgers we have had in Melbourne so far. Great beer on tap, awesome tunes, great atmosphere and yummy American style food - what more could you want. Maybe not the best place to come if your on a diet.
google avatar

Ruki D.

Yelp
My local burger place, it just opened and the interior is a very chilled spot to wile away a lazy Sunday...they usually have bands playing in the evening as well.
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
YUM. The burgers at this place are just delicious. Wide range of flavours on offer as well as a vegetarian or vegan option. The atmosphere and setting is really cool and service was good. I ordered the pulled beef brisket burger and it was beautifully tasty and served on a brioche bun. The three cheese jalapeño poppers were also yummy. If you're not feeling too hungry they sell sliders too which are great for a little bite to eat. I felt the menu was well priced and there was a decent range of beers on offer to.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Clearly says open till 11 PM arrived at 10:38 and told the kitchen closes at 10 not impressed won't be returning even if your burgers are good or bad.
google avatar

Clinton Z.

Yelp
A couple of friends recommended this place to me so I had to try it out. I was quite disappointed. I got the filthy burger. They are quite small buns, and the meat is even smaller. There was hardly anyone there the day I went, but it still took ages to be made. Way too much sauces which really overpowered the taste of everything else (either that or the meat is just really bland). Not sure if this place is too overrated or if I just came on a bad day. The burgers are far too expensive for me to consider giving this place another go.
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
Finally burgers! And chicken wings! For those who know me, I am a vego but I have momentarily lapses of will power (especially when I am stressed and tired) so I ordered some chicken wings and a pork belly burger. And I must say, I am so happy I did. I pretty much devoured the entire thing and had to beat off my boyfriend who tried (but failed) to eat some of the pork belly. It was tender and succulent and spiced with apple maple sauce. YUM! The chicken wings were tangy (not spicy unfortunately) but still tasty! We also got chilli cheese fries and I was expecting chilli and cheese on my fries but it was actually nacho cheese on the fries. Now I love nacho cheese so I wasn't going to complain, but I was a little let down. It made me dream of real chilli cheese fries that night. However, that disappointment did not stop me from eating them...which I did quite happily and voraciously. The vibe here is alleyway chic (lol oh Brunswick East). Think eggs crates, graffiti, yarn bombing, and all things steel. The music was a bit loud, but I was too busy eating my burger to talk. So I'll sum it up: Burgers, good. Beer, good. Vibe, good. [note: I'm very confused why The B-east is also categorized as Indian lol.]

Mike N.

Yelp
$14 for a small chicken burger -- more like a slider. Definitely felt like it was made for a child. I was very disappointed.
google avatar

Sara O.

Yelp
If you have not tasted their cheese fries then I don't trust you or any of your immediate family. Don't waste your time on the fried chicken but get straight to them burgers and fries. I got the sexy and added some bacon and not to pat myself on the back, but well done me...and I guess the people behind the scenes at B.East. I guess.
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
Came here to watch last year's federal election coverage with my girlfriend, no-one minded that I got voraciously stuck into the scotch as the size of the Coalition margin and started effin' and jeffin' all over the place at a volume that only Daniel Day Lewis's son in There Will be Blood would describe as "inside voice". Probably had something to do with the fact that this was in East Brunswick and everyone else was doing the same. Relaxed and casual.
google avatar

Darren V.

Yelp
A nice big spacious area with plenty of room to move and nooks to find. I thought the burger I had was tasty without being anything special - maybe a little on the small side. Staff were quite nice, but I agree with the another reviewer: the music was too loud so we left after our meal to have drinks elsewhere. The beer being served in still-warm-from-the dishwasher glass mugs was surprising too.
